Was at Seal Beach Eyes last week for eye check-up for not only myself, but my two children as well. Once again I was amazed at how inviting, and professional all of the staff at Seal Beach Eyes was. Dr Hill has always done a outstanding job with my eye check-ups, but I was amazed at the technology they use to do those check-ups. I am impressed with the investment they make to ensure their patients get the best, most technologically advanced eye exams. Additionally I was very impressed as Dr. Hill spent personal time with both my children and myself going over past and current retinal scans: showing us the good health of our eyes. I left feeling very comfortable about my children's (and my own) eye health. After my check-up, I worked with Mary in the eye-glasses department to help me choose prescription sun-glasses. I'd never been here before, I hadn't received any word of mouth 'heads-up', I was simply a guy in need of some repair on my sunglasses - the screw popped out a few days ago, and the arm fell off of my Maui Jim's. Driving toward Long Beach on PCH, I noticed the optometrist across the street from this location first. I walked in and they said they couldn't (wouldn't?) help me but Seal Beach Eyes across the street carried Maui Jim's and might be able to. So, to Seal Beach Eyes, I went. I walked in and two ladies were seated at the front desk and a gentleman off to the right. All of them greeted me with a smile, and one of the girls at the desk asked how she could help me. I showed her my glasses, the arm separated from them, and the stud that the missing screw went to. She looked at it, then walked over to the gentleman and showed him the pieces. Without pause, he took the pieces into the back saying "let me see what I can do" on his way. Five to ten minutes later he walks out with my repaired glasses. "I found a screw that fit and tightened the other too so they should be good as new." He said. I honestly didn't expect them to help since the other location dismissed me so swiftly. I was super happy, and grateful - especially since the sun was punishingly bright. When I pulled out my wallet and asked how much I could pay them for the help the man scoffed and said, "don't worry about it. Happy I could help." I was floored. Didn't think this sort of kindness existed in businesses anymore. I will ABSOLUTELY be returning to these people for any future optometry or sunglass purchases. read more

Dr. Nelsen is my optometrist. He has to be not only the best optometrist I've ever seen, but just the best doctor, period. His staff is friendly and professional, the office has a wonderful flow and cleanliness. The lens selection is large and fair on price. I found them professional and neutral so I can see how one reviewer could find them "unfriendly" but I did not perceive this. I had no difficulty obtaining exactly what I wanted. Besides being a wonderful ophthalmologist, Dr. Hill is very nice, kind and patient. He helped my disabled daughter learn to wear contacts, which has helped her vision immensely. She was so scared and apprehensive, but Dr. Hill and his wonderful staff worked patiently with her. Now she wears them every day with no problems or apprehensions! Dr. Hill is also my doctor, and he always spends a good amount of time to do a thorough job and make sure I'm fully satisfied. I love this office and the staff!!! read more

Something unexpected came up, so I called to see if it would be okay to come 20 minutes later. I was told that "the doctor is booked solid every 20 minutes". I am not certain how quality service can be provided with a schedule like that, but I understood. I waited 3 weeks for my appointment, it would have been nice if I had been offered another appt or if an effort of any kind had been made to assist me. Instead when I said " ok, I guess I should cancel my appt, then" all I was told was "ok, good bye" Does not seem very caring or helpful. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Nelson for close to 6 years now and my experience has been fantastic. The office, and doctors, go above and beyond for their patients. They accept VSP. They have all the fancy equipment. No dilation of the eyes! They take a photograph of the back of your eye instead ($35 extra). They prescribed a bifocal whereas I actually needed a trifocal. So I had to turn my new glasses in for a redo. However, they did not charge me for it. Their collection of frames is limited. So, I had to order mine from Lenscrafters.com. So ordering online plus the prescription screw-up resulted in me waiting for a month to get my glasses right. The first time my glasses were made, the edges were not polished. I let them know this and the second time around a small part of the edge on the left lens was not polished!!! However, I did not make a big deal about it. So, to sum it up, I guess their service is OK, but not the best. read more

This place is great. I knew my appointment was going to go well once I walked in the door and was greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. Dr. Hill actually took the time to figure out why I have been struggling to see well,he explained what he was doing and why he made the recommendations for the changes that he made. The other office staff (who performed my initial set of tests) were friendly and engaging, and also explained what they were doing and why. I can't believe how much time and money I have wasted with previous optometrists who haven't done much to improve my vision. Jennifer helped me pick out the perfect set of frames on her first try - within my price range and set me up with lenses that have a blue light coating to make it easy to be on my computer for long periods of time. They have all the newest equipment and really work with you trying to find the best glasses or contacts for you. They aren't pushy and definitely make going to the Dr easy. I (and my husband) have been going to Seal Beach Eyes for years. Be prepared to be treated with the utmost care. The staff is friendly and the hours of the office are very convenient. Dr. Scott Nelson is so efficient about providing care to his patients, and I always feel as if he is looking out for my very best 'eye' health. My mother has been diagnosed with macular degeneration (and I have become her wheels - as she can't drive anymore), so I always come with questions, which get answered in terms that I can understand. I haven't had an eye exam in 13 years. I really wanted a qualified Doctor to perform a full examination of my eyes. My objective was my health, not so much eyeglass frames. I was impressed throughout my appointment. The technology used for the exam was all new to me. Lots of cool equipment, each measuring some component of eye sight or health. After the examination, Dr. Nelson sat with me and explained in great detail all of the results. Then he checked my prescription for glasses. I was way more than satisfied with the comprehensive explanation of the exam. I asked several off the wall questions and got textbook answers for each one. I then met with an Optician who gave me the same level of attention in describing they different types of glasses I could use, if I wanted to. Nobody tried to sell me or upsell me anything. I've been going to Dr. Randy Hill for at least 25 years. Even though now I live in South OC-an hour's drive it's worth it! Dr. Hill managed my care after a complicated Lasic surgery done in Canada. Since then he's seen me through cornial abrasions, and the goal of achieving perfect reading and distance vision-despite my presbyopia, farsightedness, etc. He discounts lenses so they are even less than the 1800contacts, just for patient convenience. All that, and his upbeat personality always makes the experience fun and very worthwhile. Busy life, and would I even think of going to the optometrist five minutes from my house....no way! read more

I have been a patient of Seal Beach Eyes for the last two years. I have had a good experience with Dr. Hill, he is just what you want in an optometrist. The 1 star rating was earned by the incompetence of the staff. I ordered a $1,000 pair of eyeglasses with all the bells and whistles on Nov 18, 2016. Delivery was promised as 10 business days. On December 6 I went to pick up the glasses and was told they were not yet ready, and in fact they had no idea what was going on. I received a call later that day that informed me the glasses had never been ordered and it wasn't their fault, but the labs. They then promised they would have them Friday. Not hearing from them Friday I called and was told nope, Saturday, then later that day, they would not be in until the next week. Finally able to pick them up on Tuesday December 13, and very frustrated and displeased, was again told that 1) this was unusual and they would not be developing a plan to monitor progress on orders and 2) it really wasn't their fault. I will not be returning to their practice for exam or purchase. Their customer service (if I can call it that) failed in 1) taking accountability for their business 2) any attempt to improve the experience or retain me as a customer 3) despite nearly double the amount of delivery time promised, no offer of discount or consideration for the next (LOL) purchase. Next time, I will take my business to LensCrafters. read more

First, let me say I have been coming here for about 6 years. I like the Ophthalmologist/Optometrists at this location, they are very professional and informative. However, everytime I finish with my exam I am walked over to a desk where I am greeted by an Optician. This Optician doesn't ask if I'm intersted in puchasing frames or having my prescription filled, they just assume I'm going to purschase from them. I realize this is where seal beach eyes may make more of a profit but they need to be more personable. Also, everytime I asked what a specific price was on lenses or frames the optican was very vague,unwilling to give me an exact price. When leaving the location I said I wanted to take my prescription with me so I could shop for frames elsewhere, the optician seemed a bit peeved. Hey, newsflash, "COSTCO" sells frames and fills prescriptions at much lower rate. A previous review on yelp stated that it's a bit uncomfortable when trying to get out of there without purchasing frames etc. They were right. I will also go elsewhere from now on..... read more

I've been seeing Dr. Nelsen for the past few years and enjoy his service and thoroughness. He remains consistent and patient during my visits and I can honestly endorse his work. However, this evening when picking up my new frames I was really disappointed by the service...or lack thereof. I try to support local businesses after moving to Long Beach, but my office is in Beverly Hills and I may have to reconsider my medical providers. The race to make it to their office before store closing was a bit stressful. I called the shop 15 minutes before closing asking if it was possible to wait a few minutes in the chance that I'd be arriving right at 7 PM. The technician was cold and irritated by the request. Not that I believe that the customer is always right, but after paying close to $300 for these frames, I didn't think my request was inappropriate. Upon arriving at 6:55 PM, I was greeted with the bag in hand by the technician and told that the heating machines were turned off and that I can return over the weekend for a fitting. If the machines do require adequate time for shutting down, might I suggest that you publish and close your doors at 6:30. I was eager to get the frames since I'll be out of town for the weekend but was left feeling like I was more of nuisance and there was no appreciation for the purchase. I'll be sure to visit a different optometry group for the adjustment. read more
