After my first visit to Pasadena Optometry Center today, I'd say without a doubt that Dr. Van Woerkom is the finest optometrist I've ever had. Why? They all get the technical stuff right. But Dr. Van Woerkam is unique in his willingness to explain things to me, welcome my questions, talk with me about options, and so forth. I was extremely impressed and will gladly come again. A few other things were also very positive: * Friendly, helpful office staff. * Good selection of frames. * Good parking options (either pay in the lot or lots of nearby street parking). * Comfortable waiting area, not too crowded. So, I highly recommend Pasadena Optometry Center.

Street parking in the area is plentiful but there is a small lot on the side as well. The interior is bright and immediately when you walk in, they have your paperwork ready and the staff was knowledgeable about your insurance, telling you upfront what the copay would be and what other payments you would be able to get today which I really appreciated. The appointment was on time, Dr. Boutros was easy going, friendly, and genuine to hear concerns and provide honest recommendations. I was able to leave with some contact lenses to test and she also provided a couple of single use eye drops because I noted sometimes my eyes get dry. I think I've found my go-to optometry and look forward to coming back.

After multiple visits, I still can't see decently through my latest pair of glasses. They've remade the lenses once, they've rechecked my prescription, they say everything is right but after weeks of trying to break in the new ones, I still see better through the old. And it wasn't cheap. I paid $700+ for glasses and frames only to still not be able to see. I really appreciate what they've done in the past for us, but I need to be able to see. Four stars for past experiences. I really, really wish they were able to solve this.

The receptionist brings her toddler to work and doesn't supervise him, and he ended up slamming the exam room door open 3 (!) times during my eye exam. It was extremely distracting and slightly violating to have a small child run into the private exam room yelling over and over and they offered no apology. Dr. Shem was generally apathetic and not friendly. I get the sense she doesn't enjoy working with adults. The prescription she gave me was an entire 2 points different compared to the last one I got (the same one I've been getting my whole life), so I also question her accuracy. After arguing with the nurse just to give me a record of my prescription at the end of the appointment, they said they would order my contact lense trials in and give me a call. It has been months and I still have not received a call.

The office has a modern and welcoming vibe, making every visit a pleasant one. The front desk staff is always nice and friendly, and the opticians (shout out to Laura & Pim) are super professional, especially when it comes to helping patients choose the right style. One of my favorite things is the wide selection of frames they offer. I noticed the office incorporated newer brands and a variety of styles and colors than before. I ended up going with a Silhouette, while my partner picked an Oakley. I highly recommend checking this place out if you need eye care; you won't be disappointed!

I have been at this practice for ten years but am leaving after having been subject to her rude, dismissive treatment during two recent visits. I decided to follow Mindy, the previous optician, to her new practice Oculus, in South Pasadena. Mindy is the smartest, kindest, most competent optician I've ever seen and I have already called for my first appointment at Oculus, where it was such a breath of fresh air to call and talk to friendly people who clearly enjoy working there.
