I reluctantly post to Yelp. It's just a thing I have. (Btw, Yelp, I'm not from San Francisco, I don't know what that's about). BUT, Randy, Steve, and John were the best !! Rented a Walk Behind Floor Cleaner - 30" Wide for a one day rental. Had clear concise conversations about only getting charged for a one day rental if we called and requested pickup of the product on Monday. Followed through exactly as requested and low and behold, our credit card was charged for two full days of rental! After numerous phone calls in attempting to get a credit based on their confirmed pricing, we were given the runaround - everything from "the accountant is out today" to, "our computers are down". It went on and on like this until we gave up and decided to go right to the credit card company. Zero willing to be helpful. And zero would be the number of stars I would give, if it would be an option. In order to rent a tool as a first-time renter they ask for ID + a gas or electric bill as double proof of residence. Since I have no such bills to my name, I proposed to bring a bank statement and I also remarked that they would block whatever deposit is requested on my card, but they say that they weren't able to help. SCAM ALERT!! I am giving this place one star because zero stars is not an option! As the operations Manager for a contractor I deal with tool rental companies on a regular basis and this far and away the WORST company I have ever dealt with. Peter the "manager" was rude and unhelpful, during every interaction and acted like it was killing him to help me. When it came time to pick up the tools it took 6 phone calls and 2days for them to FINALLY pick them up and left without getting the tools and made no attempt to call any of the phone numbers provided. When my project manager spoke with an employee at Total tool he was told to bring the ladder back himself or they would be charging us for tools they did not pick up. When I called to clear up this matter I waited on hold for 15 mins before a man name Greg or Craig got on the phone. He was rude and hateful. He would ask me a question and immediately talk over me so I couldn't respond. Repeating himself over and over getting louder each time. When I finally got a word in he SCREAMED at me, and actually cussed at me! I have never been so disrespected, or dealt with a company that was this unprofessional! Absolutely horrible. A very thuggish work style. I was dealing with a professional employee at first named Peter and then when I called back his colleague answered and was the rudest I've heard in a long time. Going as far as hanging up at the end of call and telling me that I can take my business elsewhere? Why? Because I had some simple questions and this man had zero chill to handle the pressure of his busy day. If you can't handle the pressure sir, maybe save yourself the future heart attack and CALM DOWN. read more

Their tools are reliable as are their staff- never had a problem with them in 14 years. They're not the warmest bunch of people but as a woman they also don't ignore me or talk down - which sad to say is unusual in the contract by world read more

Awful place, bad customer service the two times I have been their and the guy who helped me was very rude even for Brooklyn standards. It was so bad that I did a job one block away and went to another tool rental. A friend later told me they charged him for something broken that he pointed out it was broken when he rented it but they would not budge and charged him, it was like they purposely tricked him into paying for their repair that someone damaged before him. This is a dishonest business. Another time I went in and they would not accept my license that day even though they had before so he tells me I can leave a deposit for the rental. He wanted me to put on a credit card $1,500 for a $500 industrial snake as if the machine died while I rented it he was ready to charge me $1,500 buy another for $500 and pocket $1,000. Great Guys...... Helped us rent a generator & a few other pieces of equipment during Hurricane Irene last minute for a fair price..

Used this shop while renovating my house over ten+ years, always found them decent and the equipment OK.... sorry to say no longer. I rented a tree cutting saw, -worked fine as demonstrated- ,got it home, got about ten minutes into the job and found it wouldn't restart and the pull cord was entirely stuck. Turns out the plastic venting cage on the back was bashed in and interfering w the pull cord. Very frustrating when you're way up in a tree, legs splayed between one branch and another. Lowered the tool back down on my safety rope and took it back to them. They accused me of 1/breaking the plastic cage myself, when I pointed out the breaks were old and dirty they said "oh because I just wiped my glove on it", ie- I'm a liar. 2/that I had already finished the job, though I explained I'd barely even begun bcz the tool stopped working. Pointed out that the gas and chain oil supplies were both full but he dismissed me again. ie- I'm a liar 3/ I requested store credit since there's always another occasion when I need a tool but he refused, offering me only another tree saw when I'd already decided to not bother messing around with another gimpy tool 30feet up off the ground. So much attitude, suspicion, and outright insults added to injury,- over a stupid $40 rental when I have a ten+ year history with them and only positive experiences till now. Very very disappointing. If you rent from these guys all I can say is triple check every inch of the equipment before you leave the shop because the owner will absolutely accuse you of being a liar and be totally dismissive if there's any problem you didn't make a note of before leaving the shop. I could care less about the small money at stake here, but the insult of someone telling me to my face that I'm lying about both the damage AND the job, after handing me an improperly maintained tool... even while I was trying to be the more mature one and explain that I understand he must deal with a lot of fraud,- to no avail. Sneering dismissal. I can't do biz w that. I am a contractor experienced with a lot of different tools and this was very disappointing. read more
