The exact kind of place you want in your neighborhood. Small business, really knowledgeable owner, reasonable prices.

This is a perfect hardware store. You can get hardware to hang a curtain, paint rollers, or canning jars. The hardware store can also offer you a hammer drill, anchors, and a couple bags of concrete, just in case. I've known the owner and his family for years and have never left the store unsatisfie. been here twice because it's a few streets down from work. love the classical music and relaxed atmosphere in here. employees behind and beyond the counter are always polite and helpful. wonderful to have somewhere i can rely on in the neighborhood!! read more

B&G is a class act. It's the little thoughtful details that make you leave with a feeling of having been properly taken care of. I've been coming here a few times a week for a few months now and I see how the owner really takes pride in the craft of his business. For example, I ordered three cans of paint and, at checkout, he meticulously took out three brown paper bags and carefully wrapped the handles with the intent of providing comfort as I carried them. Totally uncalled for yet a small unforgettable experience of customer service that I personally have learned from. Thanks B & G Hardware! read more

Yet another business illegally tacking on a credit card surcharge. I was surprised to see that the amount on my receipt differed from the total I'd been told before paying, and then I noticed the sign they've posted about their credit card fee and noticed the "non-cash adjustment" listed on my receipt. Please familiarize yourself with the laws about this, B&G. You can either list every item in the store with both a cash price and a credit card price or list only the (higher) credit card prices and offer customers a discount if they pay in cash. From the New York State Division of Consumer Protection: "Credit card surcharges are prohibited in New York State. Businesses are not allowed to advertise a price and add a surcharge at the point of sale when a consumer elects to pay with a credit card. Instead, businesses are required to inform consumers of the higher credit card price for a product or service by posting the higher price. Businesses are also able to offer a discount to consumers who pay in cash." Here are some examples they provide of practices that comply with the law: *Listed Itemized Price Scheme: Jane goes into Shoe Store S, "The first price listed is if you use a credit card or debit card for your purchase. The second price is for cash." *Cash Discount: Sophia goes into her florist. A sign at the register says, "$3 discount for all cash purchases." And some practices that are illegal: *Percentage Fee: Tabitha goes into Tavern T for a meal. She sees on the menu a sign that says, "if you use a credit or debit card, you will incur a 5% fee." *Flat Fee Notice: Kevin goes into his corner store for some groceries. A sign at the register says, "$5 fee for credit or debit card sales." *Percentage Fee Notice: At the end of Alex's medical appointment, she sees a sign that says, "3% fee for all credit and debit card transactions." read more

I never do reviews for hardware stores but this place absolutely deserves one. You can find all your hardware essentials here from spackle and lightbulbs to various types of spray paint. The employees are so incredibly patient and helpful. They've had to deal with my spontaneous weekend projects that usually include returning and exchanging items multiple times in one day. read more

This store is the best thing to happen to Williamsburg!! Well stocked with knowledgable personnell and good prices!! I can find a wide variety of supplies needed to keep my apartments nice!!! Helpful staff, I am so grateful that B&G remains in our neighborhood! read more

I've been on a kick recently reviewing some great businesses that usually don't get Yelp shout outs. B&G is at the very top of the list... I am not a handy man...at all. I, like my father before me, come from a long line of men that usually pay other people to fix, install, and or otherwise permanently alter their home. Given that I'm not made of money these days and would like to learn to be a bit more self-sufficient I headed to B&G. The image I had was somehow drilling hooks into one of our brick walls and propping our art books on them. Think Wall-Art-Meets-Library. I told the guy (sorry can't remember his name) my idea. He shot it down with a perfectly blunt explanation of it's physical lack of logic. We then walked around the store together as he worked through the ideas in his head. In the end we wound up getting a bunch of small shelving brackets (like $1.39 a piece), a packet of screws with synthetic anchors ($3.99 maybe?). and a masonry drill bit ($5.99). He told me reverse the shelving brackets and bend the tip up and then brace the book with a cork or something. The result looks frigging incredible. Even my friends who are hot-shot artists/curators are impressed. B&G is definitely the place to go if your ideas are bigger than ur skill set to execute them! read more

Not only are the prices incredibly cheap compared to Manhattan, they tend to have most things you'll ever need. The guys who work there are always really helpful if you ask a question--they'll even tell you about the cheaper options available. The only downside to me is that the credit card minimum is $10. Because I rarely carry cash, and if I do I spend it on food at places that don't accept credit at all. read more

I rented a vacuum cleaner for 30$ a day, that sounds ok but the girl, at the counter, gave me water-based carpet cleaner instead! Still, the owner is a nice guy, people are nice and very helpful. read more

Won't be coming back here. Was just here and neither of the 2 employees were wearing masks and when I left, 2 customers came in and were not wearing masks. I'll be taking my business to more responsible hardware stores. read more

Top notch small business! As far as local hardware stores go, B&G is the best by far. I have many hardware stores in my neighborhood but will travel out of my way just to visit the knowledgeable and friendly staff at B&G. Definitely my first choice for any hardware purchase. read more

this is the best hardware store around. any idea or thing you're need to do they will listen, talk you through it, and recommend the cheapest possible solution they can think of (left with bills in the subdollar range many times).or maybe you know what you need and don't need a talk though: staff can locate things and be ready to ring it up in seconds. always leave feeling a lot less stressed than i did coming in. read more

Great place. Whitney was super helpful and went above and beyond. Rented a pressure washer, made extra keys, and got some paint. Very convenient and has all we needed for our current project. read more

Update to my previous comment "This store used to be great when it was located on Bedford. Cant really say the same thing right now. The store it self has pretty much everything you need but stuff isn't that great. Just bought a ratchet wrench and went back in an hour later, to exchange it on something similar but smaller size, coz it wouldn't fit in the gap between tv and the wall. It looked like a simple task but... I've been told that i can't do it, coz it has no plastic film on the package. When i said that i just want a smaller piece, coz package didn't say that i had to use an extension etc. then i got yelled by manager, who snatch out the box out of my hands, throw it in the garbage and screaming walked away. I did want to buy a new smaller piece that they had, but walked away. Felt offended. Great customer service guys :( maybe i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure, you shouldn't Scream on your customers..." Writing an update coz right now i being blamed to be unreasonable :) Well, return policy says: all returns must be in their original packaging. So as it was. All tools and box, even a small piece of paper (cover i guess), everything except plastic film (how i suppose to open it not taking it off? :) Before buying it, i explained what i supposed to do with it, and that the gap is very tiny. Description of the tool didn't say that i will have to use an extension which will make the device twice bigger, so it wouldn't fit into the gap. The stuff didn't warned me about it as well. I came back to NOT return the tool, but to EXCHANGE it on something which will actually fit in. As i said to the guy at the counter - "all is god with the tool it's just doesn't fit in and I WOULD LIKE TO BUY something else INSTEAD, price won't matter" Right after that, things which i described above happened. Got yelled by the other guy (i guess a manager or someone higher rank) etc. So much anger and drama coz of 10$ exchange. in defense of other stuff, they were very calm and ready to talk and find a solution. Now, instead of saying we are sorry (that we literally screamed at you and acted like crazy), or just something polite, you blaming me to be unreasonable. And making up things like i was "unhappy with quality and just wanted to returned it"... Read my review again please. What a "great" customer service. I'm impressed. P.S. Hey, there is a simple solution for everything - Conversation, discussion, talking to people. And a short cut from Wiki - "The customer is always right" is a motto or slogan which exhorts service staff to give a high priority to customer satisfaction. read more

Small shop, but certainly the only place in the vicinity. Nice guys who run the place, always keep it well-stocked and they are very knowledgeable. Only downside is that they're not open on Sundays and their hours aren't very late into the evening, which makes it tough for people with day jobs. read more

Helpful employees! Not a huge store but they seem to have most items you could need for basic home repairs and fixes.

Best customer service in town with an amazing very helpful and knowledgable owner! This family owned business deserves way more credit than is expressed. Most everyday items can be found here at very reasonable prices and the key making is done to perfection. If you haven't made a visit , you must go and trust me , you won't be disappointed ! read more

The people working there aren't very knowledgable about many things they sell. It's more of regurgitation of what's on the label. Was sold wrong sizes of expendables to tools I've rented causing a couple unnecessary trips. read more

Only hardware store on Southside, and indespensible!

I have known the owners of B&G Hardware store for over 30 years. But leaving that a side they are professional at what they do. B&G is a family run business who have lived and resided in the Williamsburg community for over 50 years. There hardware store is a place where you can actually still ask the owners a question and if they know the answers rest assure they will tell you. They will also give you the option to do things alot less expensive if this is an option. Great place to shop and excellent customer service. read more

This place is great and everyone in the neighborhood should be shopping here. I find pretty much everything I need plus more and if I can't find it, they recommend places in the area that do. The owner, Phil, knows everything no joke. If you have a problem, small project or simply just some stuff for the house, this is the place for you. read more

All you could ask for in a neighborhood hardware store. Great selection and prices and the staff is helpful and polite. Thanks B & G!

Don't go to B&G Hardware if you need your keys made! I have been there on three separate occasions to get a copy of three different keys and every time the new keys have not worked! I can't speak for their other services, but there is clearly a problem with their key department. read more

I miss Dennis and everyone else from the old location on Bedford, but it's still a good neighborhood hardware store. Love the classical music. read more

In this age of Home Depots, it's becoming rare to have the convenience of a neighborhood hardware store. This store has the basics that one needs for the home/loft and the manager/owner? is knowledgable and helpful. Some of the younger staff have limited experience. The classical music is a welcome change and the store is clean and organized. I buy here whenever I can to support the local store which makes life so much easier when you need something right away in the middle of a job. They have usually had everything I needed. read more
