This place is just trying too hard and not quite hitting the nail on the head. On entering it has a cool low lighting Japanese style vibe, with wood lanterns and plants - actually quite a romantic little place I thought - then I noticed the Manga art which I thought "ok that just doesn't really work with the rest of the vibe - and am I not in a Spanish tapas restaurant here?" Then on looking at the menu I realised that actually they are trying to do this Spanish/Japanese fusion type thing - they have some traditional looking things on the menu as well as sashimi dishes "hmmm... Ok". So we make our order - keeping to the more traditional Spanish looking dishes as that's why we've come here... Our croquettes arrived first, "good start" I thought - crispy on the outside creamy on the inside. Then the octopus arrived and we were quite disappointed it was a cold dish, served on guacamole with sweet potato crisps I believe they were - not at all traditional Spanish - but interesting combination non the less... Then it pretty much went downhill from there, the scallops, though cooked very well, lacked flavour and didn't taste particularly fresh and the other dishes whilst inventive with presentation and flavour, just didn't really work for me - especially the pil pil garlic prawns in white wine - which tasted more like prawns dipped in chorizo sauce, bizarrely enough. The thing that threw me the most about this place were the toilets - all covered in manga art with a wooden box of tissues from "hogwarts school of wizardry" - it just didn't seem to fit with the romantic candle lit restaurant vibe at all?! Overall whilst I had a decent enough meal - I don't think I'll be rushing here anytime soon. I think they're experimental Spanish/Japanese Tapas fusion doesn't quite work - but I appreciate that they're trying really hard!

Delicious! Stopping through London on my travels and my friend and I found this tapas place. Atmosphere was nice and servers were so friendly. We had the patatas braves, calamari and squid with jalapeño, fried Camembert, tomato salad and chorizos. All delicious and would love to try more if I could !!!

Was my husband's birthday evening... So we decided to go Tapas after slicing out a bit of the cheesecake I baked for him :-) With subtle lighting and a rustic look, Toro Gordo welcomed us.. Cute little booth did the waiter arrange for us. The ambience was very nice. We started with our cocktails for the evening. I went gaga after tasting the Malaga Breeze.. Thanks to the cardamom flavoring the cocktail to its best.. My husband chose a classic tequila based Toro Bravo. Being vegetarians, the menu attracted us quite a bit. We chose the Andalusian Rolls and the Tosta de Queso Cabra. For the sides, we chose the Patatas Panaderas. Omg I can't stop loving those slow cooked potatoes that can simply melt in your mouth. Overall a tasteful experience. A bit pricey, no doubts but worth a visit.. Especially on a special occasion.

I borrowed this photo from Toro Gordo's insta because I couldn't have taken one better. Love this place!!

A lovely day with brunch in London and a show followed by what was meant to be a lovely Spanish tapas. Issues 1 - when we got there we had booked for 7pm but there were no tables free. The way they looked was as if they hadn't reserved our table. We were asked if we wanted to sit down in the basement bit which was ok but not much atmosphere. Not great when it was booked weeks ago and booked under birthday celebrations. Issue 2 - the service was very slow. We ordered half a bottle of wine and tap water. The wine took 10+ minutes and no water. We said we were ready for food so she said she'd be 1 minute. 10 minutes later she returned. We had to ask again for the tap water. In the middle of eating the waitress also put her handed over the pouring part of the jug to check if there was water left... why would you touch it? Issue 3 - the table behind us who ordered after us get received all their food first .. where was ours? 10 minutes later she tried to give them one of our dishes, then we finally got it. But that was it. Fed up of waiting for the rest we ate the one tapas and then I complained to the waitress that it was now nearly an hour and 15 minutes since we ordered and we had got one dish! Issue 4- 10 minutes after my complaint about the time she came over to tell us one of the 4 dishes we ordered wasn't available. This was an hour and 20 minutes after we ordered! Ridiculous! We ordered a different choice; to be told a few minutes later this was available either. What Spanish tapas restaurant doesn't have chorizo...? ‍10 minutes later the rest of our food arrived, one hot, one rarely luke warm. Issue 5- a Spanish tapas meal, with 3 dishes and wine took 2 hours!!!! 2 hours!! Issue 6- I wanted to speak to the manager about the service, being put downstairs, the time to get food. His response, well that dish is popular... why take an hour and 20 minutes to tell me it isn't available! The rest he brushed aside and didn't have time for us. We paid the full bill, we got nothing as an apology and even were given a bill with a service charge on which we asked to be taken off! To still no apology and a disgusted look. I will absolutely not come here again, nor will I recommend it to anyone else. Absolutely appalling service and not an ounce of accountability or apology!

This place was super cute, spacious, and played some good music that paired well with the atmosphere and theme of the restaurant. The servers were very kind and knowledgeable of the menu as well. We started off with a meat platter, chargrilled bread with tomatoes along with two delicious cocktails. For our tapas we ordered the *Patatas Fritas *Crispy Pork Belly *Grilled Salmon Filet (the only dish I wasn't super crazy about) *Alitas De Pollo *Croquetas De Bacalao *Chuletas De Cordero Even after all this, there is always room for a little treat! There's no way we could leave here without ordering churros, and I'm so glad we did!! We also added a bonus sangria , because why not? This is one of my many places I will revisit when I return to London. Highly recommend. More details/descriptions in my pics :)

I'd recommend booking on weekends as it gets really busy and altho' the restaurant has just recently expanded in size, it is still buzzing with clientele. It has a family run feel to it and our waiter was very attentive all evening long despite being very busy. The establishment is nothing fancy and its location is suitable if you don't live far from this area however it is the food that will bring you to this place! They have an ample menu of authentic dishes whether it be from the tapas selection or the mains. I highly recommend the octopus and the monkfish stew which were wonderfully prepared not to mention the amazing taste. I was shocked when the monkfish arrived served in a paella style pan with all the condiments...it was huge and all for me!! The menu has a good balance between seafood, fish and meat dishes to cater for most palates. Good selection of wines from the region too, and all very well priced, especially considering the quantities! You will not leave hungry. A more convenient location would be preferred but that depends on where you are based. Don't expect plush central london style, this place is more of the traditional sort run by lovely people, a good menu, great tasting food, a wonderful Galician experience.

The decor is very smart, black and white art deco-inspired, which has really cheered up the site which always appeared rather dark in the past. When I think of tapas I expect a relaxed to boisterous experience, flamenco and jugs of Sangria. Sabroso caters for a more sophisticated clientele and should be very popular with the more conservative Holland Park set. Back to breakfast, though, which was great albeit not particularly Spanish. They offer a choice of pastries and cooked options. I have never been given the choice of half an English breakfast before and just couldn't resist I'm scared to imagine what size the full portion would have been as the half was very generous and good value at £4.95. A vegetarian alternative is also available (full size only), as well as the usual egg-based dishes. Sabroso offers a soothing alternative to the aforementioned cafes which are dominated by yummy mummies and their offspring at this time of day. The service was particularly friendly, and I will try and find an excuse to visit again soon.

Whether you're looking for ways to spice up your staycation or are riding on the coattails of your…read moremost recent España holiday high-- Tabanco will not disappoint. Way back when in 17th century Jerez, 'tabancos' were taverns used by communities for socializing while enjoying local wines and foods. Tabanco brings this taste of Andalucian culture to Cambridge, showcasing traditional flavors with modern twists. Located in the city center, Tabanco is ideally situated for residents, tourists, and students alike. Its main focus is 'tapas y vino'; with endless applause I deeply appreciate places that can pull off simplicity so well and elevate it to such great heights of excellence. The restaurant space is well thought-out. Upon entering you are greeted at the bar, and then seated either on the long table centered in the middle of the room or at one of the smaller tables lining the walls. The color scheme embraces warm reds/oranges, and Edison-esque lighting and mouth watering Ibérico ham hang along the edges of the ceiling. The light Spanish music drifting in the background then sets for a relaxing atmosphere. With all these elements combined it is easy to forget that you never left England. If you've never had tapas before, they're basically appetizer-sized dishes. As someone who wants to try everything on a menu, agonizes over what to order, and then gets food envy-- tapas are a godsend solution. Since they're smaller than mains, you're encouraged to order several plates. It's like creating your own taster menu for Spanish cuisine; just choose whatever most interests you and you're good to go! Even better yet, grab a group of friends and practically order the whole menu to try out together! I am happy to report that I have done so and honestly, you cannot go wrong with anything on Tabanco's menu. If you're looking for a more traditional/introductory tapas, I would recommend the 'tortilla' (Spanish omelette), 'patatas bravas' (deep fried potatoes), and 'croquetas de jamón' (ham croquettes). The tortilla held its shape beautifully without being too dry and had a burst of flavor from the caramelized onions inside. And unlike normal chips/fries that need to be immediately devoured before they go soggy, somehow the patatas bravas magically remained crisp from start to finish. The croquetas de jamón had a lovely breaded crust that contrasted nicely with the creamy bechamel and ham filling without feeling too greasy. For meat lovers, the 'chorizo a la plancha con boniato' (grilled chorizo with sweet potato), 'pechuga de pato ahumado' (smoked duck breast on cranberry butter toast), 'filete de ternera' (flat iron steak), and the 'presa Ibérica' (grilled acorn-fed Iberico pork loin with romesco) are all amazing. The sweet potato balanced out the chorizo spices, and the duck with cranberries tasted like a Christmas roast. Both the flat iron steak and pork loin were skillfully finished with the doneness perfectly executed, no steak knife required here! And last, but not the least-- the romesco sauce was surprisingly divine. As a nut and red pepper-based sauce it added so much depth to the pork without overpowering it. I want to just put it on everything now and can't believe I've gone through my life without ever having it before. In terms of seafood, I suggest the 'gambas tempura' (tempura prawns). Having grown up on a tropical island where fresh seafood is a staple of everyday life, I'm normally disappointed with the selection I've seen in the UK. However, Tabanco's gambas tempura are massive in size with the prawns keeping their tenderness even after being deep fried. The saffron aioli was also a nice accompaniment, bringing in reminiscent flavors of paella without all the heavy stodge. Service-wise, the staff were all very welcoming and worked so efficiently. I used to work as a busser and know first hand how chaotic restaurants can get. However, even at peak times the Tabanco staff never skipped a beat. I think it all comes back to their ingenious restaurant layout-- orders are picked up from the kitchen and staff move in a circular path around the center table back to the kitchen. Along the way they can take/drop off orders and tend to any queries when they loop back around again. Phew! And if the above was not enough to convince you yet, Tabanco also has an impressive selection of imported Spanish sherries and wines. Feel free to ask the lovely staff for recommendations. Already looking forward to my next visit. Salud!
