Took a detour to Torii Mor while in the area and I'm glad that we did. It was a bright wintery Friday so we had the small tasting area to ourselves. Tasting fee is $10 and gets you around 5 pours, refundable with a purchase of 6 bottles. So if you're in a group of 4 as we were, you'd have to buy 2 CASES of wine to get your fees refunded. Not much incentive there. You might as well just join the club then cancel later. We tasted the Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, a couple Pinot Noirs, and the Port. I enjoyed them all. As a kid, I always wanted a pimpin' tree house. You know, one with all the bells and whistles and a great view. Well, the Torii Mor tasting room is very reminiscent of that dream. But better, because there's wine! The tasting room is really beautiful and relaxed with a stunning deck that overlooks the vineyard. Apparently this is also one of the most popular/famous spots to kiss in Portland (ish), too! The staff at the tasting room was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, leading our group three the six tastings: $10 each. My personal favorite was the pinot noir, which at this point I can't recall the name, but it was $60 per bottle. Apparently the winemaker is from Burgundy, France so he brings a ton of influences from there into his wine. Fine by me! And I have to say, the port was surprisingly beautiful. Normally ports remind me too much of cough syrup, but Torii Mor's was smooth, velvety and lovely. Grab yourself a pic-a-nic basket and drop by Torii Mor for some vino and view. read more

Visited today with a friend for a tasting and it was beyond amazing!! We had our own small room for the tasting to help with distancing. Lots of air purifiers around and could tell how great they were doing with keeping safe. Then add in the delicious wine and knowledgeable staff! We were told to come here by a server at Erath Winery and we were not disappointed. We were the only ones there early on Sat and the server was very nice. I think the wine tasting is supposed to be about 5 wines but they gave us a few whites, a reisling, several pinot noirs, and then also let us try the port and late harvest viognier. Not a fan! The hostess was rude and unfriendly. She looked at us like we were crazy when we asked if they deduct tasting fees off purchases. The wine wasn't great. Nothing to go out of your way for. Drive past this place and go to Lange. It's friendly with great wines and a beautiful view and large tasting room. read more

My husband and I visited Torii Mor in May. He enjoyed the pinots but I wasn't as impressed. Maybe it was the awkward zen meets doctor's office decor or the pricey tastings, but it wasn't the fancy or tasty brand they seemed to carry themselves as. Though the wines were good, they weren't great. And as I said before, the setting was less than charming. read more

All the red wines have a good nose but the notable addition of tartaric acid, alcohol backlash on the palate and the bitter after-taste makes them quite mediocre. Surprisingly they are also pretty pricey ($29 - $50). Nice views and cute cats but not worth the drive on the unpaved road. Heck, for the amount of driving on their crappy road they should at least have free tasting. Not worth the drive and $10 tasting fee. I wouldn't buy a bottle. read more

This was, without doubt, our favorite wine experience in the Willamette Valley. Full disclosure - we paid $35 per person for a private tasting which included the tasting room, tasting from the barrels in the barrel room, as well as cheese, salami and crackers in the barrel room while tasting. In all, we spent about two hours tasting (and snacking) with Ian as our guide. Ian may be one of the newer employees at the winery, but he certainly knows his stuff. The current wines are wonderful. The ones still in the barrel may be even better. The property is 2 miles up a gravel road - not a bad gravel road, but you'll do 10-15 mph unless you have a truck. The expansive deck off the tasting room wraps around the owner's home and affords a view of a huge portion of the Willamette Valley and Mr. Hood, on a clear day. Apparently a previous reviewer who said there was no view was either at the wrong winery, had far too much to drink, or didn't bother to look outside. Though the parking is on gravel, there is ample parking. Both tasting room employees we encountered were amazing - personable, knowledgeable, and quite intelligent (able to discuss almost any topic competently). Granted, we didn't explore other wineries in this kind of depth, but, then again, they didn't offer us the opportunity like Torii Mor did. Great afternoon!!! read more

This place was awesome! Beautiful garden, great outdoor area. We went in the morning but I can tell it would have an awesome evening atmosphere due the lights that were strung around the wrapping outdoor patio. Dan gave my group of nine a tour of the facility and kept our glasses full and even took a group photo of us. On top of that, the prices at this winery are great compared to some of the other wineries in the area, the cheapest bottles being $18.00 compared to $30.00 elsewhere. We visited off season (late Nov) and didn't expect to see many others out on the rural road that had been recently dusted with light snow. The Japanese influences at the tasting room are unique for wine country and have a distinct charm, but small. The service and wines were OK. The overall experience was somewhat disappointing: $10 per flight; up sale to be a member or by six bottles to have the tasting fee waived - come on. I suggest they revise their tasting fee to be waived if you buy a bottle or spend more than $30. read more

My friend spent $100 on just two bottles of wine, so we were on the hook for the fee, too. Of the 25 or so vineyards I've been to this summer (throughout the west coast), it's far-and-away a first, but maybe that's a common practice among higher-priced wineries...? Our host did open a couple extra bottles for us (not on the tasting menu), which was cool. The Japanese garden was a welcomed rest stop, and the freedom to go walking through the vineyards is relaxing, especially with the sweet views. I realize now I don't have all that much to say about the wine, here. Nothing good or bad, it just doesn't stick out in my memory that much. Also, the road to get here is pretty whack, but the views make up for that aspect, IMO. read more

I LOVED their Pinot Blanc! It's probably my favorite of any Pinot Blanc I've ever tasted. The asian vibe there is pretty unique compared to anything else I've seen in Willamette. The tasting room is small but cozy and if too many people were inside tasting it would feel crowded. Our server was really friendly and we enjoyed our stop. Whenever in wine country, Torii Mor is on the agenda. I love the wines, especially the Deux Verres and the Pinot Blanc. My family loves, loves, loves the Port, and I think that is the reason we always make a stop here. I like that it's a smaller more intimate winery, because the folks always seem to remember at least one of us in the family. Went here a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful November day, and we wanted to go to a winery with a nice view. The ambiance is a little strange. It feels like someones home. The deck is pretty much in someones house. The wine was good, a flight for $10 is a decent deal in the Dundee Hills. I probably will try other wineries, and i have enjoyed others in the area more. They have a lovely deck outside and when we came in April, they gladly brought our last few wines outside so we could enjoy the view. Six of us arrived at Torii Mor on the recommendation of a group we had met at lunch. There was one woman serving. She immediately told us we had to wait since she had to speak with her boss on the phone. We waited for quite a long time. We should have just left. Then she helped us, but with little enthusiasm or interest in us, and then again turned away from us again to wash some glasses rather than telling us about the wines. It was a shock to us after our prior winery (Colene Clemens) which had treated us very well and where we bought lots of wine as a result. The final insult was the 3 bottles requirement for a free tasting (a higher hurdle than most wineries, for wine that wasn't all that great). But we put together three bottles among the six of us and were then told that one person had to buy all three bottles to get the free tasting. It was clearly the worst place we stopped in our two days of wine tasting. Very unfriendly and not customer-oriented. Don't bother - there are lots of better places. read more

I enjoyed the small vineyard , although I don't know if they can really call what they have a Japanese garden. The tasting room is a bit small but the bottles are more affordable than some of the other vineyards in the area. I don't think I would make a huge effort to return. read more

great tasting room. It's actually modeled after a japanese zen garden, and after driving 3 miles up a poorly graded dirt road through rows of vines and rural farmland, you are almost shocked to be transported into a northwest rainforest. Dense forests dripping with moss and ferns, and a feng shui tasting room that looks like you are in Japan in someone's house. They do a couple of Pinot Noirs with grapes from local vineyards. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but not overly talkative. Good little place if you are in the Dundee Hills. read more
