sorry - don't believe all the hype about how "great" this chicken is. The FLAVOR is one thing, but the chicken that you get is another story. We ordered a half/half of garlic seasoning and sweet & spicy (something similar. forget the actual style). the half and half box came out to about $20 and you have to wait 20 minutes for the chicken to be cooked and then seasoned. The garlic seasoning is tasty - it doesn't look like much, but the sauce is brushed on by hand and someone really comes through. taste alone i give it four stars. The sweet & Spicy is really good. Not terribly spicy (a good thing) the heat hits you slowly. And the sweetness to the sauce gives it a nice balance. Where Toreore falls short is the chicken pieces. I estimate half of the pieces I ate had 75% bone and 20% chicken, 5% skin/other. You get two drumsticks, some wings, but then a lot of random chicken pieces like rib cage, hip, elbow (kidding). But that kind of gives you an idea of the skimpy meat on the bones. At KFC or Popeyes, you can always bet on getting chicken with meat. I hate to only give this place three stars, because I love fried chicken, especially korean fried chicken, but I have to ask, "where's the chicken!" Are you ready to don the glove? It's important to communicate that a trip to Toreore means that you are prepared for a seriously intense meal. There are no personal sized portions. One dish serves at least three normal people. The garlic chicken is incredibly good but leaves you smelling like garlic for hours. The sweet and spicy chicken will literally have you tearing up like you ate a ball of wasabi if it gets in your throat. For utensils you get chop sticks (worthless) and plastic gloves. It is not because I am a Korean, but I think this way of cooking fried chicken is very tasty. Unlike American style fried chicken (KFC, popeyes, etc) the pieces are smaller and there are more variety of flavors (garlic, bbq, spicy, etc). The price may feel a little steep considering the size, but I think it is still good for 2 people. There are a couple of perks with this place. First, their honey mustard sauce is very good. Also you have the ticket puncher that you get a stamp for each purchase. Every 8 (now 10) purchases, you will get a free fried chicken. If you are a regular it is not bad at all. One reminder, their "spicy" chicken is extremely spicy. I am usually good at taking those kind, but I could barely eat a couple because it was too spicy. Just FYI. read more

If you're in the mood for something HOT and SWEET, you've got to try this. This place caught our eye while we were grocery shopping, but never really tried it until a few weeks ago. When we placed the order, the cashier said, "Are you sure? Have you had this before? It's REALLY spicy." Reluctantly, we went for it, and now we can't get enough of the Hot Sweet and Spicy chicken. We like it with a bowl of plain white rice (and a glass of milk on the side). If you're going to try this, I suggest taking it home. For one, there isn't much room; just a handful of tables and chairs next to the counter. It's right next to the fruits and vegetables section of the grocery store and very close to the main entrance. For $18.73 of fried chicken take out, I expected the taste to be phenomenal. This one was just ok. I read the rave reviews and I was surprised that I wasn't impressed. I'm willing to admit that I'm somewhat frugal when it comes to dining out and that the taste and portion of the food needs to justify the price...and only when the taste/flavor is completely innovative, distinctive, and out of this world will I waive the price point. Toreore fell short, unfortunately. I got the Garlic and the Sweet & Spicy combination. The chicken itself was cooked well, but the garlic flavor was too subtle and the sweet &spicy was just sweet. Maybe I'm used to more heat in my "spicy" foods because this one had no kick at all. The other thing with the sweet & spicy sauce is that it made the chicken lose its crisp by the time I got home, not more than 10 minutes later. I don't want to say that this place is bad because it's not. The chicken is decent, just not for the price. So when you go and you think you're getting the chicken in its pretty box (which by the way is as annoying to throw away as a pizza box)...remember that you are paying for that pretty packaging. Worst customer service. I like the chicken here, but whenever I visit here I leave feeling bad. First of all why have a point system if you dont want to give points. After ordering and paying I ask them if I should give my number for points, and they tell me I have to give points before I order. So I tell them that I am ordering now, so what the issue is, and then they reluctantly ask for my number. If this is the system, shouldnt they be the one asking for my number for points? Or just get rid of it if they are going to make the customer feel uncomfortable about it. This is not the first timw, it happened 3 times before when they didnt do the number system and had stamps instead. Also after I pay for the chicken and come to pick it up later in one of the open windows, she packs the chicken and leaves it on the other window and points to it telling me to pick it up. I was waiting on the obviously pickup window, as the other window was for ordering. I dont expect any service from them, but at least dont make the person ordering feel uncomfortable. Carried out quiet a few times... They are known to use healthy cooking oils to fry their Chicken. It's not that greasy either! If you crave a good deep friend Korean style chicken, this would be a good option for carry-out! (only because it's inside the H-mart) The lady that took my order was pretty patient with me regarding all of my questions.... Bonus points for them for using cardboard style carry-out boxes, instead of using plastic or Styrofoam containers! We also got the spicy sauce on the side just so that we can have keep the crispiness of the chicken when we brought it home and to control the amount of sauce as necessary for each individual. Not only was there waaaay too much syrupy thick sauce that wasn't even spicy, but the chicken tasted like it was cooked hours before and had just been reheated. Marinated garlic chicken is my number one option when ordering. I always stop by to order $100 worth of chicken to bring home because my city doesn't have a chicken place this cravable! Wow. I was pleasantly surprised trying this place out. My kids and I were at h mart and my 4 year old was set on only wanting chicken nuggets for lunch so we went here. The closest thing was the non-spicy popcorn chicken. Having never tried anything here, I did not know what to expect. It took about 15 minutes to get the food. Luckily I had gotten some soup from another place at the food court to feed their hungry tummies first. Anyway it came with so much chicken and also came with rice and a non spicy pickled radish. My son chowed the chicken down and he is a picky eater!! He was even hesitant at first because he doesn't try things that doesn't look like the way he is used to seeing it. He was expecting nuggets not the long pieces that it came in. Plus the batter is different than typical chicken nuggets too but I got him to eat it with some encouragement. The chicken was a little salty to just eat by itself so the radish and rice balance it out well. They were long pieces. I have eaten this in the past and it the chicken provided was fine. Maybe there was new management so they changed the quality of the chicken. I don't know what happened but when we ate the chicken, we only got 1 drum stick and 2 wings and something that looked like mini chicken breast piece with some pieces of breaking with no meat. It looks like leftover pieces of the chicken that was thrown together which was mostly bones. I am very disappointed and will not be ordering this ever again. We make the special trip out to the Super H Mart to do all our Asian grocery shopping about once a month so I was excited to hear about this fried chicken place within the store. We usually eat at the mini-food court on the right side of the entrance, but never considered there's a place to eat on the left side. There are several options to choose from, with the original fried chicken as option 1. Others include sweet and spicy, tasty garlic, and spicy. We ordered half original and half sweet and spicy. The order is for a whole chicken and comes with 3 sides of pickled radishes. Everything is made cooked to order, so we were told to come back in 45 minutes...plenty of time to finish our shopping (apparently wait times can vary from 25-45 minutes). I didn't mind since we had to shop anyway. They delivered at the promised time. The original fried chicken was nice and crispy, but lacked any seasoning and was pretty plain. The sweet and spicy had a nice flavor, but the sauce made the batter soggy. The pickled radishes were delicious. Plenty of food for two people (and we had left overs we ended up eating the next day). It's good to know there's a fried chicken joint within H Mart when the craving hits while I'm shopping. I'd be willing to try the garlic one the next go around. read more

The chicken here is just different from the American fast food places that sell fried chicken. The first major difference is the amount of salt! Thankfully they use normal amounts in their recipe (and all the older folks needing hypertension meds just did a wing up for a woohoo)! We decided to go with the two most popular flavors of chicken #1 and #2, the regular marinade fried chicken and the sweet & spicy one. Yes folks, there's a wait for the yummy chicken, as mentioned by other reviewers....but people, there's a whole market you can shop around while waiting for your chicken! We stocked up on H-Mart's fresh fruit, bought some bread at the bakery, and by the time we arrived at the counter our food was ready! I liked how they gift wrapped it like a Christmas present! Thank you Santa, you really know what a girl wants ;p! The regular chicken was great especially when dipped in the mustard sauce provided, and I loved the radish on the side as well for that extra crunch. The sweet and spicy sauce chicken (#2) was quite flavorful, and is good for people looking for a mild kick (and still want to feel their tongue while eating). If you have a really low tolerance, stick with the regular fried chicken...and if you really want to feel a burn, they suggest #6. We enjoyed the crispiness of the regular battered chicken, and the warm thick sauce of the sweet and spicy chicken. That definitely required some finger lickin'! My favorite place to get Korean fried chicken. Located inside Super H-Mart. They have a good selection of flavors and the chickens are very meaty, juicy, and tender. My personal favorites are their garlic and sweet & spicy. They come with pickled radish, and the plain chicken comes with both pickled radish and honey mustard. You can also call them and order for a pick-up. It takes about 30 minutes since they make the chickens fresh. They're pricey but they're worth it! WARNING: Spicy BBQ wings are legitimately and painfully spicy, but it was so good! My lips were hurting like hell, tears were falling, and I was screaming in pain. But I couldn't stop eating it because it was too good lol. I recommend the Sweet & Spicy if you can't handle a lot of heat. read more

Fried chicken is very very very good. The honey mustard that comes with the plain one is delicious. The spicy one is a little bit too spicy for me, so I prefer the first three options (plain, garlic, and sweet spicy). I like the radish that it comes with. I wish the time estimates weren't always 40 mins though because the second time I came here, one of the fried chicken orders were cold. Still yummy, but cold. I like how they give you gloves, napkins, and chopsticks. I'll come eat here whenever I'm eat H-Mart around dinner time! :) I'm glad I can sit at the tables, too. Prices in $15 - 20 range and the portion could easily feed 3 people. The package also comes with several pairs of vinyl gloves (for you to use to pick up and eat the chicken), white radish, and honey mustards. The owner seems to be a young guy but he is business-oriented. I asked him if I could purchase some additional white radish and he gave one extra for free. Yum. I had a craving for korean fried chicken and this satisfied it. Located in Chicago's HMart Superstore, it is a good location to reach a target audience. You could also just walk in order wings and go out since it is right by the entrance. Toreore offers more variety that your local Bonchon, and thus, as usual, fosters my indecisiveness when it comes to food. Each order comes with 14 wings costing about $20 a box. You can choose up to 2 seasonings for those 14. I ended up getting the two most popular flavors - garlic seasoning and sweet and spicy wings. It takes about 15mins for them to make the wings and each box comes with plastic gloves to dig in (with some cleanliness). I really appreciate this method of eating wings. The sweet and spicy are you typical wet coated wings. Not too spicy, they were very flavorful. The garlic wings were my favorite though of the two. I personally enjoy dry rub wings more, so that was not surprising. The garlic seasoning was delicious and to balance out the garlic, there was a hint of sweetness as well. When the wings come out piping hot from the fryer, it was hard to beat. Each order comes with a container of pickled radish for crunch as well.
