This is a tiny storefront in a tiny strip center with a tiny parking lot offering to go orders only. The two piece dark was a good price but they have a surcharge. I hate surcharges. Just be honest with your price upfront without adding fees to the back end. The staff was okay, not overly friendly but not rude either. Pretty common Chicago attitudes. Their chicken is good but it was cold like it had been sitting under a heat lamp that wasn't working.. I was suspicious by how quickly they handed me my order, so I know it wasn't cooked to order. Their potatoes were cold and not that great, definitely sitting out for a while. The slaw was pretty much just cabbage, mayo, and vinegar. Southerners know that sometimes the gas station on the corner has the best fried chicken and the best tater logs in town. Once you leave the south the quality drops though. Food was still hot when we got home, a 25-minute drive. We arrived 15 minutes early for our scheduled pick up, but everything was packed and ready to go. Chicken and the broasted potatoes were all very good. Chicken was moist and potatoes were fluffy on the inside with a little crisp on the outside. Couldn't ask for anything more. I have been going to this establishment for over 30 years because they HAD the best broasted chicken. They must have forgotten how to make it because the last three times I have ordered there, the chicken was so over cooked it was not crispy but burnt and dry. I thought they may have been refrying when I ordered so I requested freshly made chicken today. Same overcooked dry chicken. I went back in to ask them if this is how they make the chicken now and the kid behind the counter said, "uhhh, it's the oil". Chicken Inn has been around for 50 years, but I had the broasted chicken for the first time recently. Chicken Inn is located along a strip mall, and there is no dine in whatsoever as there is just a small bare-bones vestibule to stand in if you are picking up an order. I was in there just long enough to appreciate the framed images of chickens. My buds seemed to know the lay of the land, and sure enough once they placed our order the food came out to us in just a few minutes. Our chicken buffet order of 16 pieces of chicken came with broasted potato wedges and a container of cole slaw (other sides are fries and rolls). This combo meal fed our party of six and cost about $41, not bad at all. The broasted chicken was tasty and was close enough in flavor to fried chicken while being less greasy. Roasted chicken breast used to be amazing n I moved n was driving 1/2 to buy it, n bought for 30 yrs! I ordered the 16 piece chicken dinner buffet that came with 16 pieces of chicken, fries and rolls. The chicken seemed like it was fried at a temp too low because it wasn't crispy and it was greasier than chicken should be. It seemed like the oil had been used one too many times since it tasted slightly fishy (from frying with fish). The fries were fine but bland. The rolls tasted like I was eating spongy flour. Even my carb loving children wouldn't eat them. I would have given them 1 star but the food was prompt and fries were plentiful. I would not eat from here again. read more

It was great to call the restaurant directly and put in my order. Super polite fella answered my questions and we ordered the 8 piece buffet for dinner tonight. They use their own people to deliver so all the $ goes to the restaurant. I think the guy who took my order was the delivery person. He brought a hand held machine to charge us, so no worries about giving a card over the phone. Chicken was hot and cooked perfectly. The potatoes were good as well, and not overdone. Juicy fried chicken and was able to sub out wings for other dark meat-legs! Thanks for giving me the night off cooking and leftovers to spare for lunch tomorrow. First timer for this place while my fella ate here 20 years ago. We will be ordering again and look forward to this great fried chicken again. Only thing is wish it had some more spice, but hey, 50 years in business, they're making a good fried chicken. Maybe next time I'll try I'll the broasted version. read more

Customer service could be better. Ordered 20+ pieces for a Christmas party. I went in personally, ordered and paid for the order to be picked up at 5:30pm on the day of the party, which was 2 days later. At 5pm, a voicemail was left on my phone stating that my chicken had been sitting there since 3:30pm, and why wasn't it picked up. He was very rude. My question is why did he wait till 5pm to call me? That was only 90 minutes under the lights getting dried up. I immediately called back. It went directly to voice mail. I called repeatedly before the call was answered, put on hold and promptly disconnected. We finally connected and I was told that my credit card receipt showed the time of 3:30pm pickup. It did not. Somehow, there was no responsibility on their part. He told me to come by and there would be fresh chicken waiting for me at 5:30pm. The chicken was as dry as the Sahara Desert. Nobody ate it. Such a disappointment. I believe they just dropped it into the fryer to heat the chicken up. Chicken Inn has had a wonderful reputation in our neighborhood for years, but we will never go there again. read more

Came with 2 breast (perfectly cooked) and a wing. Cole slaw (on point) and a roll. No sauce on the menu. Straight up chicken! Fries not bad. Not outstanding but played their role. $2 pop's. Little whole in the wall place with challenging parking because of the 3 way intersection, tried 3 piece Dark meal and I'm giving this 4 stars because of the chicken. The fries and coleslaw were very bland. However the chicken was so crispy, and so juicy I actually heard a loud crisp when I took a bite. Some of the best fried chicken I've ever had and highly recommend. I would suggest getting a bucket of Chicken and getting your own sides as there's didn't impress. This tiny carryout joint is a time machine. Apart from obligatory price increases over the years, little else has changed since 1972. The gaudy, oversized sign has become iconic and the menu is unapologetically retro. The order window and waiting area were "minimalist" long before that term was invented. But there is no need to update the appearance. IMHO, their broasted chicken and potato wedges are better than anyone else's, and that's what keeps this mom-and-pop business rolling. read more
