For just under $20 you can get a nice meal for 2 - 4 people. It also includes 2 complimentary small containers of pickled radish. I usually ask for more and it's always been free of charge. They also include plastic gloves, pairs of chopsticks, and napkins. I always get half #3 (Garlic Tasty Chicken) and half #6 (Hot Sweet and Spicy). #6 definitely has a nice kick to it without it overwhelming the flavor! Typically, from the moment you order, it takes about 20 minutes to come out so order ahead by phone or you can order in person and grocery shop while you wait. I've always seen this place while shopping in H-Mart but always passed it by thinking "$16 for chicken wings? What a rip-off!" I'm glad my friend suggested this place because boy was I wrong. Order 20 min ahead, get the 1/2 sweet spicy 1/2 garlic, enjoy the pickled daikon and the gloves, etc. Where this one differs is the pizza box. That's right, pizza box. No cute, cartoony packaging carefully wrapped in a bow. A plain cardboard box with "pizza" printed on the inside. At least they folded the box inside out, but if they are going to charge almost $20 per order, make a little effort on presentation. But it's really all about the food. The chicken was tasty, though not very spicy or garlicky (respectively). Odd cuts of chicken. I thought I selected my favorite triangle shaped thigh piece, but it turned out to be breast meat with rib bones. It was not dry, so I still enjoyed it, but I was not expecting those sharp rib bones. Good stuff. While I don't think the size of the wings is a complete ripoff, with tax it was almost $19 for a box of chicken. I'd say I got around 10? We ordered a box of split original and garlic. Honestly, I'm not sure which was which... one was quite sweet and very flavorful, the other not so much. I suspect the nonflavorful one was garlic but completely devoid of any garlicky goodness. They come with pickled radishes, which are absolutely essential for cutting the fattiness of the chicken, just simple but very good. Fantastic Korean Fried chicken! This was my first time having Korean Fried Chicken, so I may have a different perspective but I was needless to say--incredibly impressed. I had the Garlic and Tasty Chicken and it exceeded my expectations. It tasted FANTASTIC. I liked how the meat was more moist and less oily than typical American Fried Chicken. Not to mention, they include pickled radishes that help dilute the taste of the oily chicken and GLOVES! The Marinade Fried Chicken is pretty tasty too. That comes with honey mustard too! The gloves are actually really helpful so you don't get dirty, or if you're eating them on a car trip home because you simply can't wait any longer. Only downside is it is a little pricey and you have to wait 20 minutes--which is odd for fast food. However, you can easily do some shopping at H-Mart while waiting for the food! The guy looked annoyed when he saw us, he came over and instead of kindly telling us to stand 6ft apart, he gave us a rude attitude. So my friend had to leave while I ordered. We had to wait for the food which was not a problem so I walked around the store. I had my boyfriend pick up the food since my friend and I were at the store register making a purchase. I later asked my boyfriend how it went when he picked up the food and he said the service was horrible. It was from the same guy that took my order. Ordering the box is the way to go. At around $17, it probably feeds two and comes with around 14 pieces of chicken. This has been a bookmark for far too long and that was mainly due to the length of the preparation time necessary which is roughly twenty to thirty minutes. On this fated trial date however, I decided to meander the store and have a leisurely longer-than-usual, grocery shopping experience. Note : (It must have been lunch time for the employees, because the Mom and two kids working the counter were sharing a pizza within customer view. I think it was Pizza hut variety. I find it very, what is the word I'm thinking of... Hmm. Tacky. Tacky when employees eat their lunch (which is from elsewhere) in view of customers. If you guys are eating pizza and not chicken, then why the heck am I eating your chicken?) Before starting my grocery shopping, I placed an order for a box of chicken which cost about $17 dollars plus (close to $20 with tax) for approximately ten pieces. Like many other reviewers had previously stated, I went with a 1/2 & 1/2 box. Half of the order was sweet and spicy and the other garlic. (The chicken is best when it's freshly prepared. So, don't travel too far before indulging or just eat it on the premises. If reheating at home; try tossing it into a hot wok and top with sriracha or bake it to crispy.) So, I've eaten a ton of Korean popcorn chicken (bar food), Korean-Chinese chicken dishes, and other types of Korean chicken wing varieties (sold in K grocery stores) etc I dunno, maybe my tastes have changed over the years or I've somehow become some kind of chicken wing elitist. I wasn't very impressed or fond of the sweet and spicy chicken. I had tried a few pieces soon after picking them up. The chicken was okay but the breading had become mushy from the sauce which could have come straight out of a bottle sold within H-Mart. The sauce sucked actually. I wonder whether they make it or its store bought. It was too sweet and didn't work with the chicken. Tasted like a sweet and sour mixed with run-of-the-mill hot sauce. I also wonder whether they removed the chicken from the oil too early? The garlic was good but I'd have to try it again to know for sure. What I realized afterwards, was that I spent too much money on decent chicken. Also, not that I'm complaining about it, but they must have run out of the "cute" boxes. Because I got a pizza box. I actually liked it. I'm guessing I tried this "cheaper chicken" but it tasted pretty good. I got the #6 Hot Sweet and Spicy chicken. I love spicy stuff, but this stuff was pretty freaking hot. The first piece wasnt' too bad; but the subsequent ones got me sweating. I kinda shudder at their hottest chicken the "bul dak" I almost fainted from eating that in Korea...maybe I'm getting soft. Either way, the price was a bit much; but the chicken pieces were pretty damn big and meaty. Not like buffalo wings. All the orders come with the daikon radish, which is typical of Korean fried chicken. I have been to Crisp and Cheo Ga Jip; and this one is defintely the better one. The chicken is bigger and juicier; radishes were very very good. Cheo Ga's can be a bit lacking. Crisp...to be honest; isn't really like what you would get in Korea. So I think they should use the term loosely. Unfortunately this is a take out place, though they have seating. Some ambiance would nice. Chicken places in Korea are usually kinda hole in the wall, beer taverny kinda places. Of course, the chicken goes great with beer. Especially watery runny Korean beer. I recommend Cass or OB. Toreore--it's KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) what's not to love!!! Its my guilty pleasure whenever I go to H-Mart Niles. Tip: place your order before grocery shopping, because during busy times, it can take 20 to 40 minutes for the order to be ready. If you are not familar with H-mart, Toreore is one of the food vendors located inside the grocery store. It is at the very front when you come in, next to produce dept, very easy to find. While it does have a few tables to sit and eat at, this is not a sit-down restaurant, but more of a food stand. I have made yangnyeom chicken several times at home, and to do it right takes several hours (soaking chicken wings in water, frying, then frying a second time, then saucing them). But, sometimes I'm lazy and I buy yangnyeom chicken at Toreore. Toreore serves it in a colorful yellow box wrapped with a red ribbon, like a gift. It comes with chicken mu (pickled radish) a delicious and mandatory side dish for KFC. They also put 4 table settings in the box (napkins, chopsticks, and plastic food-handling gloves*). To non-Korean-foodlovers, I would describe yangnyeom chicken as a kind of sweet-n-spicy BBQ sauce--emphasis on spicy. It is actually made with red pepper paste, and it's delicious! There is actually a hotter, even spicier KFC they serve (forgot the name) that we ordered once. It was sooo spicy, we each could only eat two pieces before surrendering, lol. The yangnyeom chicken is so addictive, that I have never tried the 6 or 8 other flavors, such as sweet chicken, or garlicky chicken, etc. About those plastic food-handling gloves... if you are not familar with the custom... you wear a plastic glove on one hand, it keeps your hands clean since the chicken can be saucy. Such a great idea. No messy hands :) A regular order costs around $16 - $18 and serves 4 people (that is if you serve banchan with it). read more

I like the chicken, but far from the best I've had. The double fried chicken I had in Seoul is still the best to date. However, it is still good. Give it a try and see what you think. I was really torn between 3 and 4 stars. 3 because once again... I was so spoiled by BBQ chicken in Arlington Heights. That place was on the verge of greatness. The sauceless bb hot wings were just the greatest wing I've ever had. I hate to say it, but that wing became my gold standard that I held all other Korean chicken joints to. I'll give this place the benefit of the doubt and up it to a 4 star. Why? The regular "number 1" chicken meal reminds me of the "olive chicken" at BBQ. Only wish it was a little more crispier. The sweet and spicy was a little sweet in my opinion and I actually am gearing toward wings with less sauce as it sort of takes away from the batter. The nice lady had recommended against the super hot and spicy chicken but I was really looking forward to some spice! Hidden inside the Hmart, this is some yummy crispy fiend chicken!! The pieces are traditional Korean style. Basically, they don't have the signature legs wings thigh and breast. They just have chopped up pieces where you can guess to which piece this might be! Regardless, it is crispy, and juicy, and yummmmmdelicious. Their radish is perfect, not too sweet or vinegar-y. This isn't your typical visit to KFC or Popeyes. This is the real deal folks. You get real chicken, breaded in real flour, and it's all MADE TO ORDER. Some people can't stand the wait, others think its a sign of quality and integrity; I fall in the latter category, so I can justify waiting 15 minutes for the chicken. It's just the 15 minute ride home that's torturous. The aroma of fried meat can't be contained in the cute Toreore box everything is neatly packaged in. But oooh wait until you take that first bite... They have a few different flavors you can pick from Mild to Sweet and Spicy. My favorites are the garlic and the sweet and spicy but take your pick because they're all good. The meat is always juicy and steaming when you bite into it. Not to get all Korean on ya'll but the sweet potatoes mixed in the batter is the shiiiizzz! Who woulda thought adding some sweet potato to the breading would add SO MUCH FLAVOR!?! It's definitely worth getting excited over (I'm drooling.. again) You can also split an order to accommodate your taste buds but I'd rather just get an extra order than compromise my fried chicken :) The prices are slightly higher than your local fried chicken joint but if you're willing to spend an extra couple bucks for chicken significantly better than your local KFC or Popeyes, then Toreore will be worth your dime. One setback about Toreore, relative to KFC or Popeyes, is they don't have biscuits or mashed potatoes or any of the other sides you might associate to your enjoyment of fried chicken. It bums me out when I just want a biscuit and some baked beans with my fried chicken... but a man has to compromise, I guess. Anyway, one thing I always wonder is how they cut their chicken. Wait time was 20-30 minutes, so i did some grocery shopping. We ordered the hot spicy and sweet chicken. I was warned that this would be very spicy, but decided to go ahead anyway. They weren't kidding! It was so spicy and so good. Probably near the top of my spiciness tolerance and I'd like to think that I do have a pretty high Tolerance. Wander around H-Mart and find a light drink of choice. We went with a fruit smoothie. 2. Get an order or two of rice from one of the other food court vendors. These two additions to your meal will nicely balance out the chicken. We've tried the Garlic Tasty, Sweet and Spicy, and Hot Sweet and Spicy. The Sweet and Spicy is barely spicy and more sweet, and the Hot Sweet and Spicy is very hot and barely sweet. I think the ideal case for that flavor would be 2/3 Sweet and Spicy and 1/3 Hot Sweet and Spicy, but I haven't tried asking them to mix the sauce in that ratio. read more
