Someone told me about this place, although is close to where I live and I love Mexican food, I have never been there. I am glad I went and tried it. I had planned to sit down and eat there but it seems a little busy that day so I ended up taking my food home. The restaurant was nice and clean. I like the lighting there. Staff were nice, when I got my food, they had forgotten my chips so I had to wait for about 5 minutes for them to figure it out. I really wanted to try the tipsy chick taco so I got that and chips and queso. Chips and queso is a 10 out of 10. My friend had the Baja shrimp taco and thought it was really good. We agreed that the tacos are pricey because they are small. We said we should have gotten two tacos because we were still hungry after eating the one but they are good so is worth the money but I wish they were a little bit bigger. TLDR - good tacos but a bit expensive compared to another taco spot nearby. Ambiance/service - we placed a to go order online during lunch and our order was ready within 15 minutes. I like that they put stickers on the tacos so that you know which on is which. They also say which sauce goes on which taco as those are package separately which is nice as well. My only feedback is that they should label the sauces too as those can be hard to distinguish without tasting them. Food - I got 3 tacos and my husband got 2 along with an order of 1/2 queso, 1/2 guac to share. The queso and guac were both really good and came with a generous portion of chips. I feel like the tacos are expensive for the size. 2 is good if you're not very hungry or order a side. 3 is good to serve as a meal. Here's what we ordered: Naughty Santa - our favorite! If you get a shrimp taco it should be this one! The poblano sauce is SO GOOD! I might put that on every taco next time I come. Baja Shrimp - also really good! The pickled onions were pretty spicy which came as a surprise. Trailer Park Trashy - good, really flavorful, definitely heavy. I felt unhealthy by the time I finished this one. I was a little disappointed here. I reeeeeally wanted to love it and have a fantastic new taco spot, and some aspects of it are awesome, but some just kinda missed the mark for me. We definitely had to get a burrito, because this is one of the two places we have found that actually have handheld burritos. It was big, packed, and well made. But holy cow, it was SO SALTY. I narrowed it down to either the rice or the beans, but it was hard to get past. We ordered a handful of different tacos and they were STUFFED with meat and fillings. Unfortunately again, these were more than a little salty, and a lot spicy. Which, obviously, I am a fan of spicy, but it just has the two flavor notes: salty going in and spicy once it gets there. Which is a shame because it really covers up the nice balance of anything else. Can't really taste the fresh cilantro taste, or the crisp onions, or anything past the salty and spicy notes. The last thing we got was the airstream salad. So many fantastic ingredients in one salad! Pistachios? Heck yeah! Grilled corn? Bring it! Any lettuce other than bland iceberg? You are speaking my language! So many tasty things involved. I was PSYCHED for this salad. It looked BEAUTIFUL. It was my favorite of all the things we ordered and I still ate about 90% of it, but again, it was overwhelmingly salty and spicy. I know things like cotija are inherently salty, so I really wish that they pulled back a little with the saltiness of the champagne vinaigrette. The Peppadew peppers are a little sweet and a little spicy, so the chipotle drizzle just pushed it over into way too spicy territory. It was so close to being amazing, but then just slightly missed the mark. I'll probably go back next time I want a real burrito, or a salad and just have them omit certain ingredients until it becomes perfect, but it probably won't be my first choice. We went to this place having no expectations - just an open mind. We had read about the huge following this place has. We opted to sit at the bar. It looked inviting. The bartender (Lisa) was SUPER nice and helpful for our first time visit. We couldn't have asked for anymore more. She was a delight to chat with. We got the queso-dip and Chips, 1 Democrat, 1 Mr. Orange, 1 Trailer Park Hillbilly off of the secret menu. We also got 2 large House Rocks Margarita's. Everything was excellent. What also made the visit was the JMU/UVA game on the TV on opening day for football. I could have sat there all day ;-) We will definitely be back. Keep up the great work. read more

Stopped in on my way to the hotel for dinner. Some flavors of home. Bar tender was amazingly delightful to hangout with. Ironically it's the social spot for us Texans as there were three of us from Fort Worth sitting next to each other without any clue. Bartender noticed and said something and we were all delighted. This is a post long overdue! I visited the Midlothian location the day after opening day to feast on all of Torchy's goodness! They have a nice bar area and the dining room is very spacious. For food, I had chips & their delicious "liquid gold" queso, the "trailer park and democrat tacos", and street corn. For drinks I had margaritas, and for dessert I had fried cookie dough and churros with caramel sauce for dipping. All of it was delicious! My favorite taco is the "trailer park" which has fried chicken and I make "trashy" by removing the lettuce and adding queso. It's super good! I was super stuffed in the end lol! The staff were really nice and they treated me like a VIP during my visit. I am a true Torchy's fan where my love affair started in Texas! So glad they are in Virginia now. I heard so much about these tacos and was shocked to see that there were locations in Richmond! The tacos are expensive, but they are stuffed with ingredients, so it does make it worth the money! One of my friends loves Torchy's...my experience was truly "meh". I ordered to go and the place was nearly empty...it took about 20-25 minutes. For one taco and street corn. I was the first customer and the guy that ordered after me said that it's usually not this slow. Not sure why since there weren't many people (under 5 customers inside). I ordered the trailer park taco on flour tortilla, and it was pretty spicy. I wasn't expecting that spicy. Thank goodness I slaps ordered the street corn. I have been the Midlothian location a few times and really enjoy Torchy's for a taco night. I like that you can order breakfast tacos any time of the day. I really love the jerk chicken taco but be ready for a BIG kick of heat. I usually save the other tacos for after the jerk chicken to save my on fire mouth lol the side of street corn is very good and I recently tried the fried cookie dough bites for dessert which were delicious. read more

Hmmm. This is a toughy. They held a grand opening which was actually very nice; the lines moved along, but they needed some sort of sign to say what line your in. My wife and I sampled a few items, and had a soda. The food was a bit spicy for us; my wife can handle a bit more spice, but she even was surprised! (Not to mention drinking a lot of fluids!) We were told by two different employees to ask for the mild version if we came back to the restaurant. Now, the paid version... We did exactly that! We ordered a burrito and some chips and salsa -- the "mild" version. It sure tasted like the version at the freebie grand opening! I couldn't finish my meal, and took it home. My wife could only eat about 1/2 hers due to the spice. At home I tried to salvage my meal. I tried putting some extra cheese on it, then added some sweet and sour sauce; it tasted a bit better like that, but I ended up throwing the remaining food outback for the animals. The staff was nice, and after I did complain about the heat at the restaurant, they assured me that I had their mild version. ‍ It was heartburn city the next 24 hours, and downing a few Tums kind of helped. The other issue is the price. My lord! I'd advise if it's just for you and your friend or significant other- be expecting to drop some $$$! If it's your family of six, you may want to take out a HELOC loan at your bank first. SMH..... One other thing- the outside sign says, "Torchy's Tacos and Pizza". Absolutely love torchys. Is it slightly pricey? Sure... compared to other places. But tacos are super filling. I usually only need one with some chips and queso. And oh boy!! That queso is some spicy goodness!! Today, I tried the guacamole for the first time. Got a 1/2 size and needed another 1/2 because it was so good. I really enjoy the margaritas. Yum! I enjoyed all of the tacos that I picked. I ordered one Baja Shrimp taco and one Democrat taco. The employee suggested that two tacos is a good portion per person and I agree. My fiancé ordered three and struggled to finish them all. My only disappointment was that the shrimp was a bit too salty by itself, so it's best to eat with all the veg toppings. I mean, it's fine. I was excited for the fast casual but with drinks! The food was fine, nothing to write home about. But the service was weird. We purposely went early, to avoid crowds, but still be in the 4-6 happy hour time frame. We ordered our food and drinks at the same time. There was literally one other small group there. Another day, another Torchy's. I love Torchy's, and I was so excited for them to come to Midlothian but it seems like they are still figuring things out. When ordering, we had a couple questions about drinks (what beer do they have on tap, is this drink mixed or frozen) that the person at the register wasn't able to answer I ended up with the frozen sangria and my wife got the passionfruit margarita and both were excellent. The tacos were up to Torchys standard and very good as well. Another negative about this was the noise. It was incredibly loud in there, tough to hold a conversation with another couple. Definitely louder than other VA locations. Finally, when we were getting ready to leave I went to the register and asked for a to go container for leftover guac. The person at the register told me to use the foil, which doesn't quite make sense for guac. She then said that there should be containers out, which there were not. Overall I think this location has a ton of potential. The food and drinks are great, they just need a little time to get everyone up to speed. read more

We like the food here, but our visit today was terrible and we will probably never return. After I ordered, I noticed there was an automatic 22% tip added to our total. I tip regularly, but I don't think I would tip that much just to have somebody bring out our food that we ordered at the counter. I contemplated saying something, but decided not to since costs are high these days, and the person bringing out our food may need the extra cash. We were given a tracker from the cashier and told to put it on our table. We took our tracker and put it in the middle of the table on the mat that said, "Place Tracker Here". In the very center of the circle that read 'Place Your Tracker Here' was a metal disc, so it seemed logical to place the tracker on the metal disc that was in the center of the circle directing us to place the tracker there. Our server, Nikki, came to our table frustrated, and the first words out of her mouth were, "Our servers can't find you if you put the tracker on the metal disc". She then moved it off the metal disc and told us we needed to put it within the circle, but not in the very center. She made sure to point to the areas in the mat that we could and couldn't place the tracker, while moving the tracker around the metal disc, but within the circle. I need to point out that you can't place the tracker entirely within the circle if you avoid the metal disc in the center of the circle. She didn't say hello, or ask how we were doing, she just lectured us on the specific tracker placing rules that were not printed anywhere. There are no instructions other than "Place tracker here", and I was being lectured by our server Nikki, whom I involuntary gave a 22% tip to. When I told her about the tip and her lecturing me about not knowing how their table tracking system worked, she sort of apologized by saying she was sorry I felt that way. She didn't say she was sorry for her actions, only that it was unfortunate I felt a certain way. She then argued with me about her actions and told me she did nothing wrong. This was a horrible experience. We have been here many times, and I wanted you to know that your one really bad employee caused you to lose us as future customers. It obviously won't affect your business in any significant way to lose one family as customers, but if Nikki continues to lose customers for you then maybe something will be done to create a more enjoyable dining experience at Torchy's Tacos. I don't know if her attitude is a reflection of higher management, or if higher management is okay with their employees treating customers that way, but it's a horrible way to run an establishment in the hospitality industry. read more

So I've been waiting for this spot to open over in Midlothian, VA and let me tell you . . It was worth the wait. I asked what the two most popular tacos were and decided to go with the Baja Shrimp option. It was very fresh and came out in a timely manner. I overheard a lady doing an interview in which she stated that Torchys started off as a food truck and the owner is from VA which made the experience all the better.
