As a Texan, I was stoked when torchys made its way to Memphis. But I gotta say, this location is spotty. Kinda always feels generally understaffed. Lackluster customer service. Just meh. Food wise. Ran into two consistent issues: Tortillas sometimes come out hard/stale around the edges Queso is always cold. Every time. I'm not sure if they have a warming issue or what. But we asked about it several times and the answer we were given was "they don't have a microwave or way of heating it up." Managers did give us complimentary queso coupons... which was cool.... but we used them to get more cold queso..... so..... yeah. Not looking for handouts. Just want hot queso. Makes me sad. We love torchys and will keep coming, but we've pretty much given up on the queso, which sucks cause that's kinda their thing. As a Texan, I was so hyped about torchys coming here. I was talking it up to all my friends ... now I can't do that. I just can't send people to this location in good faith cause it's literally a roll of the dice on what you're gonna end up with. love torchys and love the area. The cheese dip is so so good. my bf said he likes the guacamole more though. our favorite taco is the trailer park - crispy chicken & the sauce is soooo good. I like the baja shimp taco & salmon one too. I ended up getting a large piece of salmon on mine but my friend ended up getting a piece like half my size. love the sauces. I always get flour tortilla. the outdoor seating is so nice. the line can get pretty long to order but you get the food fairly soon after you order. the tacos are pricier than most Mexican places ($4-$5.50 per taco) but 2 is enough to satisfy me when normally I eat 3. read more

I'm from the northeast and we don't have torchys up there. I found one during my travels to Memphis and I was excited to try it out-- I learned about them from one of my favorite influencers. I arrived at about 430pm on a Thursday and it was pretty empty, but filled up with a line out the door by the time I left at 630ish. I grabbed a seat at the bar and the sweetest bartender served me! I got the Paloma, which was part of the happy hour drink menu, with the house infused tequila-- so so yummy but def has a little bit of a kick. I ordered the green chili queso as an app, it did not disappoint. I think this is the item I will crave and be so sad I can't get back at home-- I'm going to try to find a copycat recipe online. For tacos I had the brushfire which I favored out of the two, and the beef fajita. Both really good, I just enjoyed the flavors on the brushfire better. Another enjoyable detail at Torchys is their ice-- as simple as it is, they had the nugget ice and that makes all drinks taste 10x better. A friend came to visit and decided to eat here since it was new. It was definitely crowded inside and we had to sort of stalk for an available table outside. Parking is also a big of a booger and you may have to park in the neighborhood and hope no one yells at you. Don't expect authentic tacos from here and don't expect taco truck prices. Once you get that out of your mind and overcome the crowded space and fend for yourself parking aspect during peak times, then you may be able to enjoy the creative tacos. Unfortunately they didn't have the taco of the month yet here so I opted for the salmon taco and shrimp taco. The shrimp taco was superb. The salmon is heavily seasoned just so you know. The food is good, I visit Texas often and I said finally in Memphis!!!!! It's new and it's crowded, management let me give you a suggestion, hire someone for the cleaning. I was in the restaurant on 07/14/21, 1st- the bar was dirty, there were available seats but no one took the time to clean not even the bar employees. 2nd- The beverage section, there were built up ice that customers had poured out and no one took the time to clean, I looked at that mess at 45 minutes. 3rd- Restrooms were filthy. Man I love torchys!!! I use to drive to Austin just to get it! Everything is so fresh! They finally open up in Memphis and I am so happy and my tummy is happy too! I love their queso dip with chips but their chicken fajita is my all time favorite!!! The marinated chicken with grilled onions, peppers, pico de Gallo with the tomatillo sauce! Always always always ask for their Diablo sauce! So spicy but with so much flavor! The trailer park taco wasn't so bad, it was seasoned well but the chicken fajita is better! Yummm. Friendly and quick service, the only thing was there were at least 10-15 flies flying in the restaurant! Am admirable attempt at fusing two cultural delights. Tex-mex cuisine esc. I recommend the queso obviously, and the trailer park taco. Stuff was busting. We asked the manager Marcus for his recommendation and he convinced my husband to try the fried avocado taco (my husband normally won't go near avocado). Let me tell you: he loved it!! The queso was damn good and the tacos were delicious as well. The lines can be quite long, but that's what we get for going on Friday night! We only waited maybe 10-15 minutes to order, and I'm from Florida, so that wait time is nothing (Disney). We got a seat right away and the food came out shortly after. Mediocre at best and that's being nice. I had been hesitant to try Torchy's because the parking lot is always a disaster. It took three rounds to find a parking spot. My boyfriend ordered two fried avocado tacos, a Paloma and I had a burrito bowl. We also ordered sides of beans, rice and street corn to share. Everything was utterly flavorless. The street corn was missing ingredients. All we got was the roasted corn with a little bit of cotija cheese. No aioli or lime wedge as stated. His Paloma was so bad neither of us could drink it. My burrito bowl was so small it was laughable. I could have gotten one twice that size from Moe's. Not to mention the super loud pop music. Which doesn't seem fitting for that environment. For $60, we could have driven minutes away and eaten way better for half the price. We both said we should have known it would be bad when the slogan is "Damn Good". I waited for Torchy's to be open for 2 weeks before visiting. Well, I decided to go on a Friday might. Big mistake. There was also a line for Crumbl Cookies next door and in my feeble calculations, it appeared that the Torchy's line was shorter. Nope again. It went a lot further once inside. I probably waited "on line" as East Coasters would say for an hour. But, it was worth it!!! They lived up to their name. I actually waited about 25 minutes at Crumbl and even went to Gus's for my husband across the street and waited about 10 minutes. When I got home from all that waiting about 15 minutes later, my tacos were still hot, in 2 ways. Don't disparage their appearance, considering the wait. But, they were soo good. The Republican (jalapeño cheddar sausage) was a kicker! The chicken fajitas taco had a little pizzazz. But, OMG! The jerk chicken one sent me to the moon! It was SPICY and I loved it! The salsa was pretty fantastic for a tomatillo. I've had some land tomatillos. But they kept up that fighting spirit. So, sorry for all those other restaurant name drops. We found this place in Memphis only to come back to Phoenix to find that there are several in the valley! I recommend the chorizo and cheese dip to share with your table. My favorite tacos are the Democrat and the Baja shrimp. My wife loves the Trailer park which I admit is delicious but honestly I'm sure everything on the menu is good. read more

Hmm so i want to start by saying Torchy's food isn't bad at all it's actually pretty decent. Since it was my first time going i also wanted variety so i wouldn't be biased. I had( me and the wife) the burrito as well as a few different tacos to what was best. We also got drinks. So being from being in the military I've spent a good amount of time on the west coast and with that being said the tortillas here are really weird lol like they are soft which is cool but once you start eating it's almost you're eating a pita instead of a tortilla, which could be on purpose idk, it just wasn't for me. I'd also love if the tacos had more sauce as well. I know you can get stuff on the side but I'd rather not have to ask for more. The guy at the front taking our order was pretty cool. He gave great suggestions, we also had a funny moment asking about drinks and he was like I'm not old enough to drink yet but he could tell us what everyone else gets Not a bad spot to have drinks with friends tho.
