I have been eating at swankys for over a decade. Maybe 15 years. I have been mourning the closure of the carrefour location. I don't know who's idea it was to make swankys full service, but I would highly recommend they change their mind. I've never liked chipotle, I've always been a swankys fan, but it feels odd to take away the thing that makes them comparable. Swankys has always been a casual dining experience "eat. drink. chill." And I believe having a formal wait staff throws off the ambiance. Don't get me wrong, the wait staff was very kind and attentive, just not what I needed for a quick meal. I also did not love that the soft tacos were no longer wrapped in tin foil (were they still put under the hot press? I couldn't tell). I was honestly surprised they knew what I meant when I wrote "table sauce" on the slip of paper (anyone else remember the huge bottles that sat out pre covid?) though it also seemed to be a different recipe. I've always loved swankys but this has been a big change, part of the fun was the line. I hope you are able to reopen a second location near where carrefour was and maybe things can be like old times again. read more

I was out shopping in Eastgate today and suddenly realized I was starving and it seemed that a taco would really fit the bill. I have never been to this location before and I can be certain I will not be returning. The dining room lights are really dim, the two young girls behind the counter could really not have cared less about stopping their conversation to help me. The vegetables in the veggie medley were hardly cut, and the dish was lukewarm when I got it, not a good thing when you are holding food on a steam table. This is certainly a health code violation. A large group of us went to lunch today at Swankys. The experience was incredible. Danny seated us, brought beverages and waited on our table so that we did not have to go through the line. We are older ladies and although we could have stood in line it was awesome to not have to. He brought us our food which was amazing and took care of us with individual checks. This location was just ok. The first thing I noticed is that it wasn't clean. Trash was all over the floor and tables. Once we found a clean spot, I ordered 3 tacos - beef, chicken, and steak. I was truly surprised by this visit! We came on 12/31 around 3. I thought it was shutdown from the outside but saw that they were open for business. There was only one other couple dining in here. Wasn't too busy for lunch thankfully. Placed my order and it was ready within 10 mins. It was exactly how I ordered it and the employees were very nice. It was a bit smokier than I'd prefer inside the building but I was getting mine to-go anyways. Nachos were delicious, the steak was plentiful and flavorful. Their queso is chef's kiss. Good food but sadly it is one of the many restaurants in Memphis that doesn't find it necessary to update their open-close hours. I find that to be bare minimum customer service. If you can catch them before they decide to close then the food is worth the price. Would be 5 stars if they managed their hours better. I've think they close at 8 or 8:30. I've been there at 7:50, 8, 8:30, 8:50 on different days and been told a different time each time for when they close. They are supposed to close at 10 according to their website. read more

Finally checked out Swanky's a few months ago after a few folks were telling me they have the best chicken tacos. I wouldn't say they were "the best" tacos in the world, but they were definitely good - seasoned well and if you like spicy chicken tacos, give theirs a shot (rating - 8/10). Loved the chips and salsa! I ended up taking some home and they wouldn't charge me for it, which I thought was sweet. My small complaint with the restaurant, in general, was their outdoor seating wasn't clean. I luckily had some hand wipes that I used to clean off our area. This was my first visit to Swanky's and let me start by mentioning this place has outdoor (and indoor) seating! the outdoor patio is gated off so it can be child friendly out there. The bathrooms are nice and clean as well! They're located across the street from some railroad tracks, too. All good things to know with kids in tow! Our waiter - Anthony - was super duper friendly and funny and attentive. Really liked him. The food was pretty good. I got the fish (tilapia) tacos. We also got cheese dip. My husband got the steak tacos and my between my kids they had a cheese quesadilla, chicken taco, and a chicken salad. The toppings/produce were all fresh. But for some reason, I just didn't love the food here. I wanted to! Really want to. Just didn't walk away loving it. I'm not saying the food was bad but it wasn't super flavorful or memorable. Neither of us wanted a chain restaurant, so Swanky's fit the bill, and our visit was very enjoyable! We both got the tacos, which includes 3 tacos of your choice. My husband got the steak tacos, and I got a mix of steak and chicken. After placing your order, you then choose the toppings you'd like (very similar to Chipotle, Moe's or Salsaritas). All the toppings, as well as the chicken and steak, were much higher quality than what you'd find at any of those chains. I will say that I much preferred my steak tacos over the chicken. The restaurant vibe is upscale casual, and there were a lot of people enjoying the outdoor patio. We found the employees to be friendly and helpful. Feel free to have one of the finest prep lines customize it for you with an array of ingredigents to compliment your dish in taste and presentation. What was impressive to me next to the food was their service. Prep line was very proportionate with the ingredients added to my taco salad not skipping a beat making sure it was prepared to my perfection. The cashier made sure everything was rung up right & the chef made sure it was cooked to perfection coming out to my table hot. My server was also friendly in bringing out my order. I had one portabelly taco and street taco lol my street taco had literally just steak nothing else it was supposed to have in it and my other one was only mushrooms in a shell with nothing else in it. Ordered food. Waited 30 minutes; everyone else at the table got their food except me. I finally decided to go up and ask where my food was. The older lady who took my order completely forgot who I was and what I ordered. I was holding a receipt and she never asked me to see it. I got the sense that if the other younger coworker didnt reassure her that I ordered, she would not have given it second thought. I asked for a refund. As for me..i am adept in this area...my "go to" has been the build your own burrito or bowl...( reminded me of the chipoltle concept)... i chose the bowl...salad - spinach, rice, beans ( option of several ), veggies, choice of protein, carnitas and asada are typically my choices, various types and degree of heat salsas...and guac..an impressive dish to say the least....My friend built a burrito..it was gigantic - same options as my bowl, just wrapped in the largest tortilla I have EVER seen!!! and BOTH under $10.00! Dont forget to ask for a serving of their yummy chips and salsa for your table. softdrinks...also huge, and cocktails are served to accompany the meal. The weight staff is friendly and helpful... Swanky's is clean, and roomy to accomodate social distancing effectively - there is also a small outdoor patio. What the heck happened to Swanky's? Just picked up a to go order for a chicken burrito bowl that had 2 tablespoons of chicken on it, brown guacamole, stale chips and a teaspoon of cheese. I ordered the "select" steak carbon tacos. There was no avocado, cotija cheese on the tacos as described in the menu. They were slathered in verde sauce even though I requested ranchero. I would have called to complain but they are not answering the phones. Not sure why because when my son showed up for curbside pick up and ended up going in because they were answering the phones at that time either...he said the employees were just hanging out looking at their cell phones. read more

Beware!! The restaurant was severely understaffed when I attempted to pickup my order. When I arrived, my order had not been prepared. I placed the order about 25 minutes before arrival. The restaurant was empty, but seemed to have a fair amount of online orders. They didn't have Talapia, so they were unable to make an item I ordered. I had to order a cheaper item, the lady was kind and issued a refund for the difference. I still had to wait for fires and onion rings, the fries were cold, soggy, and over cooked. I asked the lady to replace them. She gladly accepted. I was still received extremely over cooked fries and onion rings. The cooking oil is burned and needs replacement ASAP. OVERALL, the quality of the food was subpar, the display for the food looked old and dried out. I've included photos of my meal below. I spent almost 60 bucks and my family and I wont eat it all. I've been here a few times now and I can't seem to find anything I really like about it. It seems very overpriced for the style and quality of the food. I'm sure there are some die hard's out there, but for the life of me, I can't figure out who thinks that $10-$13 is acceptable for two tacos with a side. I guess if it were FANTASTIC chef driven food I could see it but... There are at least 30 places in Memphis that serve similar food cheaper and better tasting all at the same time. You won't get the hipster vibe though, so I guess there's that. So last night!! We wanted something quick and good for dinner!! And being new in the city i came across this place. I had a craving for tacos!! So we wanted to be able to grab our food and go so I ordered on the web. We arrive at Swanky's only for them to tell me that I am at the wrong Swankys But let me tell you this.. i believe she was the manager. But even if she wasn't when i say she took care of us. She tried calling the other store to see if they had made it but something happened where they were rude to her and she said "we will just take care of you guys" Y'all they made our food fresh and hot! I am completely disgusted with the customer service that I received at your restaurant tonight. I placed a Kollin order at 7:30 and when I arrived at 8o'clock I stood around for almost 20 minutes and nobody even acknowledge that I was there and finally I left to go and do something else because it was busy and it seemed like nobody was going to ask me why I was there either. Once I came back I was there at least another 20 minutes before I even got my order and they kept asking me what my order was and what the name it was under and this was after they told me several times that they were working on it but then it seems like it just got started when I got there the second time When I voiced my concern about everything going on the black guy that I guess is the manager at the moment or acting manager started yelling at me and told me you know what you can cancel this order or whatever you want to do When I said something to the girl at the front counter she started yelling at me and told me the reason why you probably didn't get any help while because you were not standing there in line which I was the first time but I got tired of waiting when nobody even said hello to me or asked me what I was waiting for This will be the last time that I visit this location and believe me I will be sure to let everybody know how bad of service I got and how rude you guys are to your customers It's Saturday night so you need to either get more people on the clock to have enough help or have people they can actually do their job and on top of that people that don't have an attitude problem and won't yell at the customer read more

This place is like a chipotle with margaritas but it was the staff that did it fit me. "I don't appreciate feeling like I'm getting scammed when I order food" - my mother when she saw Swanky's offering tonight. This place has been getting worse and worse. The owners think that they are popular enough to get away with ripping people off. They have no scruples and only care about making money, no matter how many corners they cut. From the awful cheap queso they tried, to the now tiny containers. They seem to think that people will pay regardless of what they do, and I can't agree with that. I won't be returning. The food is okay. It's not great. It's not bad. It's okay. They do sometimes try to cover up lack of more expensive ingredients (meat) with extra veggies and spices. But they went way too far. Now you can buy "queso" which is chips and a tiny container. Like tiny. It's $5+tax for this tiny container of queso. This is too far and it's ridiculous that they think they can get away with this. I won't be going back, and honestly, I would argue that others should avoid it to teach them not to try this stuff. The same people own Cheffies, and we all know they aren't going to stop abusing our wallets until we stop letting them near us. Also, not having a bad day. And not slanderous. There is literally a picture of the ridiculousness that is your portions. And I didn't just leave an anonymous review. I literally spoke to an employee and the manager about this. Went to Swanky's just to hang out with friends. Parking was plentiful as we got there not long after they opened. This wasn't my first trip there so I knew what to expect. If you haven't, this is a build your own taco shop. I wasn't hungry so I just ordered queso. The queso comes in different sizes so you can definitely get some to share. The chips are homemade so that's always a plus as well. The menu does have vegetarian/vegan options which is why we chose to go there. I was able to take my queso, chips, and soft drink to the table with me. If you order anything else, they bring it to the table once it's done. The queso wasn't hot but was still good. I also ordered the jalapeño Margarita which was brought from the bar. It was delicious. Seating inside is for small groups.
