I have a new food spot! My colleagues suggested that we go for lunch and I am glad we did. When I first walked in I went to the counter to order. Once you order, they give you a buzzer and then bring your food to the table. They have a beverage and utensils station. There is plenty of seating. I love the casual theme. Speaking of my order, I had The Threesome. It comes with green chile queso (has a little spice), guacamole, and your choice of salsa. All of them were really flavorful. The cips that comes with it was really fresh and tasty. I also had the Trailer Park. It is loaded with flavorful fried chicken, green chiles, lettuce, pico de gallo, mixed cheese with poblano sauce on a flour tortilla...so so good! the cashier recommended it to me because it was my first time there. The other taco I had was the Chicken Fajita. It is marinated and grilled chicken, grilled onions and peppers, pico de gallo, mixed cheese with tomatillo salsa on a flour tortilla. I've been here numerous times since my last review and felt I needed to change my review. It must have been the taco I got the first time, because every other taco has been really good. Not nearly as messy as the fajita tacos. My favorites have been the Brushire and the republican. The mango and Jamaican jerk flavors go so well together in the Brushfire and their brisket with BBQ in the republican is very good. Another I enjoyed was the Baja grilled shrimp. The queso is still awesome. I want to try another dip, but I know I would crave that queso later. No change on service. We get our food in a timely manner and everyone we have dealt with has been nice. I still like the way the place looks. It's unique and fun. We had an awesome time at Torchys! As a big group it was perfect in accommodating everyone through ordering individually at the counter. We queso was delicious and they offered something that everyone would enjoy. As a non-meat eater, I tried both veggie options and liked both. I ordered the brisket nachos through the app! I picked my order up and I was pleasantly surprised that everything was packed up separately! That almost brought a tear to my eye, because most restaurants would have fixed it as served as if you were dining in, and by the time you made it home to enjoy your food the nachos would be a soggy mess! They are more expensive than most taco shops, but that reflects on the quality of the food! And to top it off every employee I've talked to was very friendly! If you want a taco that has eccentric but flavorful taste then go to Torchy's! I've been twice in one week. I had their Trailer Park, Crossroads, and Baja Shrimp the first time...Loved it! My all time favorite is the Baja Shrimp! The second trip I had the Trailer Park, Baja Shrimp, and Mr. Orange. Mr. Orange is my least favorite, which is salmon, corn & bean relish, and cotija cheese. The house margarita is a winner as well. I got the swirl option, where you can pick two flavors. I picked passionfruit and lime, Delicious! So, rapid fire for my trio: Hogfather: barbeque sauce is too sweet but meat perfectly cooked, textures contrasted to be complimentary, good 3/5; Baja Fish: spiced really well, fish over breaded and slightly over friend, marginally good 2.5/5, Cougar: like the Hogfather but sans sugariness, pleasant crunch from the crispy bits of friend poblano, 4/5. All in all, neck and neck with El Mero. I'm partial to El Mero because it's mom and pop, authentic meets Southern soul. Torchy's is, oddly, independent minded Austin meets profit driven corporate. The staff at Torchy's is, as it has to be said, some of the best in the fast/casual industry. You order queso, that bowl will hit your table within 47 seconds of you sitting down. Seriously. If there's a problem, yo, they'll solve it. Top tip: know what you're ordering before you make it to the front of the line. If you've never been before, you'll make it to the front, get shook, then you're going to take 5 minutes reading through the menu while everyone in line behind you gets angry. You'll ask questions, the person at the counter will calmly answer them and treat you like you're not frustrating everyone else because they're great like that. But still. read more

My daughter brought me here today for my birthday lunch. What a wonderful surprise!! Food was so very fresh and tasty. First time for both of us and we tried a couple of items. I had the grilled chicken and bacon bowl and it was delicious with the bourbon jam. Can't recommend that enough. We also had nachos, and also a queso dip with chips. Again very tasty. Pleasant employees who were very helpful and cheerful, especially the gal who helped us order with the beautiful long dark hair. One of my favorite lunch spots. The food is always delicious. I highly recommend getting a bowl via the app or website, since you won't see it on the menu. I do have a few issues though. The first being my food is never ready at my scheduled pickup time, and with a quick lunch break from work that can be a problem. My other issue is the constant inconsistency on their app and website. Every time I go to order a bowl, the options have changed. I don't have access to order the same thing I did previously. For example, I love barbacoa (one of their taco meats) but there's a 50/50 shot it's available for bowls. Sometimes it's listed, sometimes it isn't. I've been eating at Torchy's since I lived in Dallas and I never miss the opportunity to eat at one if it's near me. The food is consistently great and the service is consistently friendly and fast. This isn't your normal taco shop, this is a damn good taco shop with options for everyone and fresh and funky tacos to tantalize your tastebuds. Don't skip out on the queso because it will change your life. I've eaten with multiple newbies here and I've heard "This is the best queso I've ever had" more times than I can count. My go-to is the Crossroads but I haven't had a taco yet that I didn't like. Plus it's great that you can switch everything up from corn tortilla, flour tortilla, or in a bowl! Sit at the bar and enjoy a delicious cocktail or draft beer and watch sports on the large TVs or grab a table inside or outside on the patio and enjoy a quiet meal because everyone is silently devouring their tacos. The concept of Torchy's is great. It has a good atmosphere when you dine in with good drink options and friendly staff and bartenders. The tacos/menu is diverse to say the least. It has many "different" options and unconventional blends of toppings which makes it a bit adventurous if you're into that. The problem is that (to me) the meats were all overcooked and not fresh. Most had a kind of mush-like texture to them which I think takes away from what the tacos could be. I generally avoid dairy. I had googled and it said they had a vegan taco but they didn't have it on the menu. The cashier was new and didn't have a lot of guidance on what could be made without dairy. I got the trailer park without the sauce and cheese. It was still pretty good. I can find authentic Mexican tacos for a far better price. The service was also less than satisfactory. Solid taco place in East Memphis. We've been to Torchy's in FL and had a good experience as well. A Monday at 5pm proved to be a good time for families with kids, as that's all that was there. With the seat yourself style and decent background music, it's actually perfect for kids. The food is good. Definite American style tacos so don't come looking for the authentic stuff. But the combinations they have are tasty. Their house margarita is also quite good if you're in the mood for that. I do think for the size, they are slightly overpriced. There are absolutely cheaper options nearby. I'd come back again without hesitation. The kids ate 100% of their food, the service was friendly as fast and the atmosphere was great. read more

I'm not usually a fan of Tex-Mex, but this place wasn't bad at all. However, I found their prices to be a bit high. Paying $6 for a leftover scrap taco and needing to buy two to feel full seems excessive. I tried the Cover and the Tipsy Chick, which were okay, but nothing to write home about. My drink of choice was the Peg Leg. It gave me a slight buzz, but not enough to get me to that sweet spot. I'll come back, but I won't be in a hurry service was mediocre. Best queso! I was incredibly impressed with the queso. It was already tasty and then I found Millennial kryptonite and it became even better. It's a must have for every visit. I really liked the flavor in the Republican but the sausage was hard to bite off. I feel like it'd be better if they cut it up into a few large pieces rather than just butterflying it. I liked it but I won't get it again because of that. The Chicken Fajita was good though so I would get that again. The Green Chili and Democrat are just both very plain even with their sauces. The Baja Shrimp doesn't have much flavor but the sauce really makes it so it's great. The Tipsy Chick doesn't have any flavor either but the sauce wasn't great so it's a no for me. Came here an hour before closing on a Saturday. Parking is terrible. There is no space to park and took us 2 trips circling to find a spot in the back. They need more staff. You should be able to order drinks at the bar but the bartender was struggling to keep up with drink orders and we were told to go to the front to order. The cashier up front knew nothing about the drinks nor how to really work the cash register. It is not that the staff was not trying. I think the cashier was new. Really sweet people but they need more staff at this location to run smoother. I had a large party and we were able to push some tables together. I heard the food was decent. So, I'm typically a fan of Torchy's. If I'm honest, they are a bit pricey. Especially considering how small the tacos are, but I really have no issue when the food and service are good. But yesterday they failed and while mistakes happen, this freefall for terrible customer service is an aggravating trend! Thus this review. My husband and I drove to Torchy's to grab dinner. It's a 10 mile drive from our home so it's clear that's what we specifically wanted to eat. We get there and no one is at the register. We wait and after a while the bartender goes into the back. I assume, to let someone know there are customers up front. Bartender comes back out but says nothing to us and no one comes to the counter. I walk over to the bar and ask, she says someone is coming. Another 5 minutes before someone shows up. We place our order and wait. Another 20 minutes They finally bring out our orders. Normally I check my food (we weren't staying there to eat) but I only marginally checked (my fault) When we got home, 2 of my tacos were wrong and the corn I ordered wasn't there at all. Aggravating, as it was too far to drive all the way back I decide to call, just to let them know. Of course there was a long voice message but no one ever answered the phone. Poor customer service outweighs good food almost all the time. It's such a shame no business besides Chick-fil-A ever learns this lesson. And the fact that you ask (expect) me to provide a tip on a to-go order before I even receive my food is nuts! I haven't taken them off the list but I won't ever purchase food to-go again. read more

Water should be served in the same cups the sodas are in (big and tall ) , especially during this heat advisory here in Memphis. My favorite Queso was the the Hillbilly Queso dip. I love spicyyyyyyyyyy ,the Queso gave me all the spice and flavor. The tacos were good, I had the brushfire taco of course the Diablo sauce was spicyy and added extra flavor to the taco. I also had the crossroad taco, the brisket was dry to me/over cooked but adding the tomatillo sauce did help. The outside of the restaurant is pretty; however, parking is terrible. The inside environment feels like a next level high school cafeteria that you can bring your family to. It's loud and I was expecting pretty food judging from how long the line is always in their drive through. The grilled chicken bowl wasn't good to me. It was missing some seasonings. The tequila sunrise was not tasty and very watered down from the first sip. You have to place your order at the counter and a server will bring your selections to you. If you want another beverage or entree you must keep going to either the bar or order counter to place an order for more items. read more

As a big fan of the original Torchy's in Austin I am DELIGHTED to now have one in my hood! Their tacos are great (Mr. Orange - aka their salmon taco) is my usual go-to though lately I've been experimenting to see what other taco concoctions fit my fancy. Other faves are the hillbilly queso (which includes chorizo) and their chips & salsa because those are truly the stars of the show! Chips are thin, airy & nicely salted and the salsa is packed full of flavor - though if you get a batch that has more jalapeños than usual be prepared to clear out your sinuses a bit - still worth it! This place stays packed so I usually order on the app, though if you want a margarita or other cocktail that's not an option. They do have a drive-thru if you'd rather take-out and not deal with the crowd. My only tip of what to avoid are their corn tortillas. I don't know how they make them but I get ALL my tacos as either bowls or with flour tortillas because the corn ones are no bueno. They have a rubbery texture that stands out and as a taco lover who orders them every time I'm in Mexico (and Cali and Texas), I just can't do it. Again though - the easy fix is to order flour or eat it as a bowl. (Though I hope they'll change the recipe one day.) Happy hour is $2 off their drinks and weekends have $3.50 mimosas & tequila sunrises all day. Their sangria swirl and frozen passion fruit margaritas are my favorites. Keeping my fingers crossed they'll start offering a Tajin chili rim! And saving the best for last - service is awesome! Tried a new tex mex place and have to say they did not disappoint. Torchys tacos really are "Damn Good". Make sure you check out the taco of the month. This month was the Cougar which had Beef Brisket, corn, cilantro. It was so good. I loved their brisket and they piled it on. I also had the Brushfire which is a jerk chicken taco. Be warned that if you are not into spice torchys may not be for you. There is spiciness in everything. At first I was like everything is too hot but as time when om i got use to the heat and the flavors were bursting through. The chips and salsa and queso were delicious. I could eat the chips and queso all day long. Salsa has a bit of a kick to it too. You order you food up front and then they bring it to your table when ready. Staff was friendly and helped us with what tacos we should get. I'll definitely go back when I'm in town and try some more tacos. read more

I was really looking forward to Torchy's but overall, it's just okay, especially for $80. The price range is reminiscent of Babalu. The vibe is also similar in that it's very casual, but torchy's is definitely more casual. Service was fine, just polite nothing more nothing less. Food: Favs: Fried avocado taco - it was so refreshing and avocado was nice and crispy. Baja shrimp taco - big, juicy shrimps that went well with the pickled radish and chipotle sauce. Street corn - nice smoke from the char, just enough spices and cheese Green Chile queso - actually spicy so take this as your warning! Creamy and flavorful with a good kick. Tito's Cherry limeade: sweet but not overly so Frozen sangria swirl: Delicious!! Wouldn't recommend: Kingpin/green Chile pork carnitas - really salty, kind of dry. Not really a cohesive taco. Democrat taco - barbacoa was fine but wouldn't get it again. Overall: I definitely wouldn't wait in line for this, but I don't think that's an issue anymore since it's been a couple months since grand opening. Really good food. I had the Baja Taco, the Cross Roads Taco, side of rice, and the Hillbilly Queso & Chips. I guess they call it Torchy's because of the spice that a lot of the food had to offer. Personally, I loved the spice, hence my 5 star review. However, my toddler pointed out how extremely slow the service was (the line & wait) and she loves spicy foods but she did not however like how spicy our meal was. (That was a first since she begs for "spicy" at every meal practically.) I'm not complaining, just letting you know that this restaurant is a great lunch spot for me to meet with friends and coworkers but I'll probably take the kid somewhere else next time. One last quirky observation for the owner/Managment... ditch the trash cans that you are currently using because the tiny little opening only creates a huge mess. While I was eating, I watched every single customer drop their trash on the ground because the trash can wasn't user friendly (making a huge mess of smashed foods and spilled sauces that people were tracking around all over the place with their shoes). I also watched one of the staff drop a huge stack of bowls, trays, while fumbling with the Hideous trash cans. I'm not even sure where you found those things but please return them. This is a really good taco place if you want a quick bite and yummy food. I ordered a Baja shrimp taco on a corn tortilla and a jerk chicken taco on a flour tortilla. I preferred the flor tortilla over the corn tortilla this go round. The corn tortilla didn't make the shrimp taco "pop" for me like the jerk chicken taco. Both were really good and I like corn tortillas, but not for this shrimp taco. The jerk chicken has a kick with the diábolo sauce and man oh man was it good. I also ordered a half order of queso and it also has kick to it. It had cojita cheese, guacamole, and cilantro on top. The flavors worked well together and I regretted not getting a full order so I'd have some to take home. Do yourself a favor and get a full order and top the meal off with their churros. These churros came out hot, crispy on the outside, and melt in your mouth inside. Sprinkled with a generous helping of cinnamon and sugar combined with the sauce....it's on my favorites list for this place. This was my first visit, but definitely won't be my last. The parking is not the greatest, the restaurant has a shared parking lot with other businesses, but they do have a drive thru which is a plus. The drive thru is a bit wonky,you place your order at the speaker then be prepared to cut the wheel to get to the pick up window and watch the curb!
