CARNITAS TORTA (DEEP FRIED PORK MEXICAN SUB).

Had pastor tacos, asada burrito, and canitas torta. The tacos were good but the torta was not very good ( bit into a whole bay leaf ) and the burrito was just okay. But good location and friendly staff/ fast service.

Amazing. Fantastic. A must try. A gem in the sea of mediocrity…read more Go for the Taconganas vs the street taco. You wont be disappointed. We enjoyed the barbacoa and the carnitas and yes, even the veggie. I read a review about it being just cabbage and pico...but that is the exact description. It was grilled to char a bit and was delicious. We did prefer the red salsa over the green. A bit more spice and more flavorful. Taconganas were served with a side of cabbage and I found myself adding it to everything even though I was weary at first. I look forward to returning and trying more things. Birria Ramen sounds perfect to me. Run and enjoy! ( Ps. The service was delightful. And the atmosphere was fun and casual. They even had cornhole boards and life size connect 4. The murals were bright and done very well.

We ordered six tacos and two drinks, and our total came out to around $35. The food was definitely good. The meat was flavorful, the tacos were loaded, and everything tasted fresh. The tortillas held up well, and the toppings complemented the meat without overpowering it. The drinks were refreshing and paired well with the meal. That being said, the biggest issue for me is the price. While the tacos were tasty, I don't know if they were $35-for-lunch tasty. Memphis has no shortage of great taco trucks and taquerias, and honestly, you can find similar quality at several other spots for less money. The service was quick, and our food came out fast even during the lunch rush. The outdoor seating was nice, and the overall experience was enjoyable. I can see why Taco Nganas has such a strong following. Would I come back? Yes, but probably not often. This feels more like a once-in-a-while treat rather than a regular lunch stop. The food earns high marks, but the price keeps me from giving it five stars. Overall, good tacos, good service, and a good experience. Just be prepared to spend a little more than you would at most taco trucks. 4 out of 5 tacos.

The restaurant was not overly busy, which made the entire experience relaxed and enjoyable from the moment we walked in. The first thing that stood out was the service. Everyone there was welcoming, patient, and genuinely friendly. Since it was our first time trying a few things on the menu, we had several questions, and the staff took the time to explain everything without making us feel rushed. They gave recommendations, explained the toppings and flavors, and helped make ordering easy. I decided to try the specialty hot dogs, and honestly, they were amazing. They were packed with flavor and loaded with fresh toppings that worked perfectly together. The combination of creamy avocado, fresh vegetables, sauces, and perfectly cooked meat created a unique flavor that was both fresh and filling. Every bite had something different going on, and you could tell the ingredients were high quality and made with care. The presentation alone looked incredible, but the taste backed it up completely. The atmosphere was comfortable and casual, making it a great place to sit down and enjoy good food with family or friends. Nothing felt rushed, and the overall vibe made the experience even better. If you are looking for something different from the usual restaurant options and want flavorful food with friendly service, Las Tortugas is definitely worth visiting. We will absolutely be coming back again.

3.5, I think? This was a tough one for me to rate…read more My aunt lives near Las Tortugas and I've been reading about and thinking about visiting for years whenever I'm in the Memphis area. The stars aligned on this most recent visit and so I got to try them. This location in Germantown is a little easy to miss signage-wise, but Google Maps got me here easily. The parking lot is small but paved nicely and easy to navigate. The inside of the restaurant does feel like a deli, with a counter to order at and a small but reasonable amount of seating. The restaurant's accolades are plastered on walls and the glass windows around the food prep area and it's fun to read the history and writing about this place. There is one semi-essay seemingly from the owner, directed at patrons, grousing about customers having certain expectations about the food they're served (Tex-Mex versus authentic Mexican, for example). The owner is adamant that authentic Mexican is served here, and I have no reason to doubt that at all nor expect anything different, but I must admit the tone was rather off-putting. I can see how it would be frustrating to have your food, your work, be misunderstood or misinterpreted, but it kind of felt like I was being lectured when I hadn't done anything, lol. At any rate, I walked up to the counter to order. Service was adequately if not /especially/ friendly. I placed an order for a sandwich (Tortugas de pollo) as well as a limonada (fresh-squeezed limeade) to go. I waited at one of the tables and my order was ready for me in a reasonable amount of time. My favorite thing was the limonada! It had closer to an Icee texture than a juice or limeade texture but I really liked it. Pleasantly sweet and sour and very refreshing. The sandwich was good if not mind-blowing. Maybe my expectations were just a little too high. One problem was that it got pretty soggy very, very fast - it took me less than 10 minutes to get back to my aunt's house and unbox my food and in that time, the bottom piece of bread on my sandwich was close to falling apart. Some of the chicken was also a little too strong-tasting for me; it's hard to describe but I imagine we've all had chicken that's a little too obviously...well, chicken, lol. Not super mild tasting meat, I guess is what I'm trying to say. That aside, I enjoyed the texture of the cheese and the heat of the peppers. The top slice of bread was also nice and crusty. The sandwich came served with a handful of chips less generous than it appears in the photo and some green salsa. The chips were a little over-fried for me but decent enough, and the subtly spicy salsa went well with them. I think the greatest sticking point for me is the price vs. the quantity of food vs. the relative enjoyment. My meal was a solid bit over $30. I prooooobably could've split the sandwich with someone else and been okay, but given the relatively paltry amount of chips, I was also okay eating it as a solo diner. I think if the price had been a little lower, or the portion of chips a little bigger, or the enjoyment of the sandwich a little greater - any one of those things - this would probably round up to a 4. But ultimately the sticker shock and somewhat condescending vibes lead to a lower rating from me. Idk, I would definitely say this restaurant is worth a try and I'm glad I experienced it and would recommend trying it to others who enjoy this type of Mexican food. That said, I'm also not completely confident I'd return on another visit to Memphis. Well, okay, I would definitely for the limonada. That thing was awesome. ;)

Yelp ratings told us this happened to be close to our house to boot. My wife and I both had the taco salad with chicken (lots of it, btw). Both our guest had meat dishes, which I forgot to record. One was almost surely a steak fajita, the other had a ham (and chicken?) dish with rice and lettuce. All declared VERY good. Service was fast and friendly - our waitress spoke English and Spanish. Ambiance - a typical ethnic location. Nothing fancy. Don't let that stop you if you want good Mexican. Once more, Yelpers, you've helped us out in a pinch!

There is a bakery available with a lot of goodies. We did not try any Sunday since we were full from lunch. I will come back to try other entrees and have the chips and salsa. The bathroom was organized and clean.
