Mexican food done right. Service and atmosphere: Cool and clean restaurant with modern and relaxing surroundings. They offer seating inside and outside plus there is good number of parking spaces. Service was friendly. Food and drinks: They offer Mexican food with many tasty options on the menu. They have breakfast items served all day too. My favourite was the artisan salad with grilled chicken. All our dishes were nicely plated and tested very good. Good seasoning and balanced flavours. This Torchy's located is located on Gessner and just south of Westview. Plenty of parking available. The menu comprises of fusion style tacos and sides. I got the hillbilly queso (cheese and some jalapeño peppers and other high calorie goodness in there), and two trailer park tacos as well as a migas taco. The queso was solid and you can always refill chips if you run out. The trailer park tacos comprise of a piece of fried chicken tender with a ranch style sauce. I remember the chicken having a much better batter and taste in the past so it was a bit disappointing coming back to Torchy's after a while and seeing the taco being a bit lower quality than before. It was my first time trying to migas taco and I did not enjoy it in general. Overall, Torchy's is a decent chain spot for non traditional tacos and its menu has enough choices to have something everyone might enjoy. Definitely pick and choose carefully but you can't go wrong with the queso. read more

I went there on May 1st to get some guacamole, just guacamole without the chips. The girl rang up my order and I took the receipt and noticed that I was charged for the guacamole AND chips! I told the employee that she had charged me incorrectly. She replied that it was correct because there was no way to charge it without the chips. I told her that I've done it many times using the app. She said that she'd have to talk to her manager. She came back and said that the manager would have to credit my order and recharge it but that she was too busy and couldn't do it right then. It was 10:30am! Too busy? Talk about the only location that won't make a quesadilla. Been to plenty of other torchy's locations where they will make it upon request not part of a Kids meal. to add injury to insult this location, relies heavily on kiosk at the front counter for orders instead of making someone available to take customer orders. Pros - fast service - easy menu with plenty of options for everyone - had both types of queso and both were amazing - tacos were all large and filling (probably 2-3 tacos per adult) - they have happy hour!! - easy parking - clean and spacious interior - everything was well maintained including self serve area of drinks! I had the Democrat taco with beef barbacoa but unfortunately wasn't a huge fan of it - it was sweet, which I wasn't expecting. He had the Tipsy Chick taco which was very good (I took a bite). We also split the Hillbilly queso, which came with guac, chorizo, and cilantro in it, and it was delicious. Pricing is about $5.75+ per taco, and the queso was $8.25. Had a unfortunate experience at this Torchys. First we got there and ordered and no one was at the front and no was at the bar. Went and got a water cup ourselves and was told by a short girl not to go behind and get a cup to ask the bartender even though there was no one around to get anything for us. Seen past reviews that they are known for not having anyone at the counter and having rude service. Next, the whole purpose for us to go to this torchys was to watch the spurs game. The bartender kept saying over and over that the bar is full service and usually we would have to move to a table. There was only one person at the bar and they weren't even watching the TVs. The only thing I can think of is that since we ordered at the front already and we didn't actually have an open tab with him to tip him. The manager was nice and the young food runner was nice as well. We will definitely not show up to this restaurant again. As a past bartender I never told someone they can't sit at the bar top because they didn't order from me. Bartender wants to justify being rude for just trying to get a water cup ourselves and argues back and forward with us. Great location with a ton of parking. Nice spot to bring the kids, they have plenty of outdoor seating and space to run around. Torchy's is a full on chain on this point, but I feel they've never compromised the original taste and flair they had 10-12 years ago when they first came over from Austin. Walk up counter and the occasional quirky cashier, with a fairly straight forward menu. You know what they have at this point. Unique tacos and surprisingly reasonably priced drinks that also are of a good quality. Queso and chips are borderline elite. And there's a taco for everybody here. Monthly rotation for seasonal tacos. Love swinging by on a weekend morning for a breakfast order as well! Little nookies are a fun treat from time to time if you like cookie dough. read more

Went here for dinner on 4/23 - party of 3. We had the following: Queso + Chips - 5/5 - This was delicious. Hard to go wrong with a good queso, this had just a hint of spice which added to a nice flavor profile. I thought eh accompanying chips were fine but my wife thought they could have been crispier. Grande Burrito (beef & beans) - 4/5 - I thought the burrito was very flavorful. I would definitely order again. It tends to lean on the side of a bit salty which I didn't mind. The accompanying salsas were good but I asked for a bowl of pico de gallo which I thought was very good. Democrat Tacos (shredded beef) - This is what my daughter had. She really liked them and said she would give them a 4/5. Trailer Park Taco (fried chicken) - My wife had this and did not like. She said the fried chicken tasted like it wasn't made fresh. I visited here for lunch last weekend ordering two of their tacos. My choices were grilled shrimp with a corn tortilla and a beef fajita on a flour tortilla. Both were almost the same price at just under $5 each and with a soft drink the meal came to $13 and change. After ordering at the counter and getting my drink it took almost 20 minutes for the food to arrive. Both tacos were good to eat but the beef was chewy and I wish I had gone with the chicken. Both tortillas were fresh too. While the food was decent taste wise (except for the tough beef), the meal didn't pull me back for another visit any time soon. We went for opening day for a late lunch. After ordering at the counter you are given a pager and your food is brought to your table. They also have lots of designated curbside spots in the parking lot if you are ordering to-go. All of the staff were friendly and courteous, and they were all wearing masks and gloves. We were checked on twice during our meal which was very considerate. We chose to sit on the patio outside and I noticed that the staff were wiping down the tables between patrons. We ordered a variety of tacos: chicken fajita, republican, democrat, Mr. Orange, trailer park and Baja shrimp. Our favorites were the chicken fajita and Baja shrimp. All of the ingredients were fresh and all of the proteins were nicely seasoned and very flavorful. We are fans of Torchy's and will definitely be coming back to this location. read more

Outside of rolling the dice and getting super lucky finding the exact right little food truck, Torchy's has THE BEST tacos. They're not ALL the best, but tons of them are among the best I've ever had. And I've had so so so so so SOOOOO many tacos from all over Houston. Of the 53 different Torchy's Tacos I've had, at least 19 of them rank among the best ever. If you have a laughable need to prioritize "authenticity", Torchy's is NOT what you're looking for.
