visited my friend in texas and this was one of my favorite spots that i got to try for the weekend. the line wasn't too bad when we came around 7pm and you just order at the tablet. the queso is chef's kiss, so cheesy and a bit small honestly but so good that we got another one to go. the street corn was my FAVORITE out of everything i wanted to buy another one. the seasoning was sooo good and the corn was juicy and perfect. for tacos, i got the crossroads and the baja shrimp. the shrimp was top tier, there were a lot of onions though so i just took some out. the meat in the crossroads was delicious!! i added some orange spicy flavoring which made is 10x better. what topped everything off was the view next to the lake. it was raining with lightning so we stayed inside for a bit to wait out the storm, and watching the rain droplets fall on the window with the lighting strikes in the sky + the lake view was magical. read more

Had a craving for Torchy's during a Monday early this month. Being in the Cypress area for the week, all I could think of was where could I find breakfast tacos when Torchy's came to mind. I dove into their app and punching in an order for their migas taco and the wrangler. Since I was on an empty stomach, I also ordered a Democrat taco, Mr. Orange, the Matador, and the Green Chili Pork Missionary. Came out to a little over $40 after tax and tip. After picking up my eats at the location and coming back to my hotel to dig in, I realized I probably ordered more than what my stomach could handle. But who am I to let food go to waste, especially after unwrapping everything? The Wrangler and Migas followed by the Matador and Green Chili Pork Missionary were my faves. The migas and wrangler are solid breakfast eats; so thankful those are served all day. The matador and pork missionary are double wrapped with a crispy corn tortilla inside a flour tortilla so it holds up nicely. And it's necessary given all the ingredients and toppings inside those tacos. The Mr. Orange is ok but wouldn't order again. The Democrat has nice barbacoa with avocado and cotija cheese but the tortilla almost fell apart so I knife/forked it. While I prefer taco spots that aren't chains, I'm not opposed to having eats from Torchy's; especially this location which I found to be clean and efficient. read more

The food is always a hit at Torchys, so no complaints there. The flavors and the way things are made is pretty consistent with each location. Rating is a little lower for a couple of reasons. This location has self order kiosks, which I ended up having to use. I feel like it takes away from the experience, but I understand using them when there is a long line. There wasn't a line this time, but there was one person with the cashier that was taking a little bit of time, so I opted for the kiosk. Kiosk was pretty easy to use, but you have to wait for the cashier to check your receipt in order to give you a cup for your drink. So, alas, I had to wait again. While I was waiting I noticed there were many dirty tables, but not a lot customers. There is one-two people helping clean. Maybe I missed the rush. It took about 20 minutes to get my food. No more Independent Taco, Maine Root sodas, or a few other staple items. The menu has changed and even originals are different and gross. The independently owned cane sugar soda fountain drinks are now syrupy Coke brand products. The prices? 30-40% more than when they opened here. This business is a prime example of what happens when a small company sells out to a corporate shill and is completely ruined. RIP Torchy's and its former self. True to form, as I walked up to the place, my order was placed on the rack for pickup orders. One tip: check your order before leaving. I was missing rice and an order of rice and beans. I always check for rewards and I got a birthday reward for free chips and queso. I swear my birthday keeps getting better and better. Their chips and queso hit the spot every time. It's filling for me like a meal. Love the location! There's outdoor seating looking over the lake and I'm a sucker for a water view. Service is lacking. Although checkout was patient, there wasn't much more than that. Very slow and just oblivious of serving. Probably since it's an order at the register style restaurant but you still need to make sure the customers that you're giving the food to have everything they need before you walk away. Our chips and queso took at least a good 30 minutes while we were watching others come in and get their chips quickly. Looks like the server just couldn't find us although they gave us trackers so I'm not sure what's up. We had a variety of tacos between shrimp, migas, and beef along with the queso. In my opinion the queso was the best part. Unfortunately the tacos were pretty bland and dry. I love coming to the boardwalk to enjoy a nice meal outside. I have not been to torchy's in a while, and I was very impressed that they have updated their menu. They even have a happy hour and some new bowls. They have added a self-serve kiosk for you to be able to order your food and pay with that cashier. The restaurant offers a fun vibe and has a great view of the lake. There is a full bar if you like to partake but they also have good lemonade, soda and sweet tea options. When you walk in, you order and then find your seat. The cashier was super fun and helped me choose some great menu items. I ordered a small queso with the Diablo sauce on the side. When they brought it out, I was disappointed in the size at first because it was so little. However, the pan was deep! I also ordered 2 shrimp tacos, one grilled and one fried. Great choice. As the wise would say, my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I couldn't eat my second taco. Overall, the food was good. The service is almost self-serve. Once they bring your food to the table, they don't come back to check in with you. So if you need something, you have to either go back to the counter or find what you need. What sets this Torchys apart from every other Torchys - the location! While parking is always a journey at Townlake, few beauties in life beat sipping a marg on their patio while watching the sunset and the birds flock over Townlake. I can only speak to the dine in experience for now, and for that I can say the restaurant was clean, still feeling "like new", the service was fine, and true taco of the month this month (Oct 2024) is fabulous! The queso was doing its thing per usual, and I'm terribly sad to see Nookie are no longer on the menu :(. I haven't had their tacos in a long time. But on my last 2 visits, I did try their chips & queso and added the Jamaican jerk chicken to it and that was good. And then I tried their Big A$$ Gambler quesadilla and made it "Trashy" (added the queso to the side). It was ok nothing to be excited about. Maybe I'll try a taco on another visit. She was absolutely amazing, our food was extremely fresh and met the standards of what you would expect from a Torchy's. We dined here over a MONTH ago. The restaurant is in a prime location but poorly run. We didn't enjoy the blaring music as well. The restaurant was not busy but we waited a good 30 minutes for cold food. We returned the COLD food promptly to Jessie the manager. He told us he could not refund our money because they had a new system. STRANGE because the system took our money. We called him back a few days later to say we never received our refund and were told to wait and our refund would pop up. Well it didn't. We called three times since. The last time it was a female manager telling me she was busy and to email which I did. This is not the way to run a business. He should have pulled the money from the register or his pocket. This was a scam from the moment we returned the food. Return our money. You need to replace management and serve hot food. Unacceptable. Several days ago, I visited Torchy's in Cypress, Texas on Barker Cypress and Tuckerton, and specifically requested no salt on my chips. When I got home, I noticed that my chips were heavily salted. I called the restaurant to explain my concern, and while the manager answered, she seemed very stressed and distracted. I also mentioned that one of the staff members had been rude, abrupt, and unhelpful during my visit. The manager explained they were short-staffed and was rather dismissive of my concern. I requested a refund, and she stated that she would need my credit card information but would also add my name to a list for a free meal and issue a credit refund when I return. When I returned today, the same manager again seemed overwhelmed and unprofessional, she was about to start an interview and abrupt told another staff member what I needed. The employee appeared confused about whether I was supposed to pay or not, and later the manager denied ever saying she would process the refund. She seem to lack the necessary management experience regarding customer service. It's clear this location is struggling with poor communication and lack of effective management. I've always enjoyed Torcy's food, but this experience was extremely disappointing. I hope corporate leadership reviews this location's training and staffing to ensure customers receive the level of service the brand is known for. read more

The Chips & Queso used to be awesome. Now it's a ball of slimy gunk that resembles phlegm. Doesn't look or taste the same as it once was. Served with a small ball of fake guacamole (Louetta location). I knew once Torchy's moved from a truck to a storefront, this was bound to happen. The quality control is just not there. I had a great experience at thus Torchy's location. I ordered my food for pickup but the weather was so nice that I decided to eat my food outside by the lake which was a great view! I ordered a chicken fajita taco, side of rice and a half order of queso and chips. The chicken fajita taco was delicious. The meat had a nice chargrilled flavor that I really enjoyed and the grilled peppers and tortilla were also very fresh! I was surprised that my taco was filled proportionately because at other locations i've gotten very small tacos but this wasn't the case here. The queso was good as always, and as for the rice i'm not much of a fan. It's edible but honestly tastes like boxed Mexican rice that they doctored up. It tasted better when I put some queso and salsa on top but I don't know if i'd get that again. I even had a lemonade while here and it was also super delicious. Used to come here monthly, but probably won't be back. I ordered a taco (that I have gotten so many times before) and it was ice cold. I would have eaten it if it was just room temperature, but not cold... when I asked for it to be remade, it was brought out to me with the (still very cold) toppings on the side and was told that it's supposed to be like that and always comes out like that (it doesn't). I got a refund for the taco and asked for the managers name. She refused to give it to me and just kept repeating "I am the managing partner" until she walked away. I went in this afternoon for a quick taco with my girlfriend. We come in monthly to try the taco of the month. Not big fans of shrimp, we ordered our usual tacos. A tipsy chick for her and a hogfather for me. We ordered, sat down, and food came out quickly. My taco was satisfactory, it's been better but meh whatever, I still scarfed mine down no problem. Her tipsy chick however was down right cold, the bacon marmalade and corn pico were in sealed containers on the side and felt like they just came out of a prep cooler. So we asked for it to be remade, and they did. Before the remake, they made sure to remark that these ingredients are kept cold and that only the chicken is cooked so the taco may be a little cold. A little confusing considering my taco has some of the same ingredients, which are kept cold too, and my taco came out hot. Then the remade tipsy chick came out, even colder. The cheese on top was still hard and cold. Not remotely close to melting. Marmalade and Pico and still icy cold. Lettuce beneath was cold. We asked for a refund because we have ordered this many of times and we expected a hot/warm taco. They gave us the refund, but not before explaining again that the ingredients are kept cold and that we should just expect that to be a semi-cold taco. Hold on. What? We've ordered that for months and months and it's never once come out cold, why should we accept that now? Obviously upset with the poor quality, and service, we asked for her name. She stubbornly refused to give her name and she just nodded and repeated "I'm the MP, I'm the MP." I enjoy the atmosphere here and how they have it set up. Corner parking in this area is a little tight but not a deal breaker. These are NOT traditional tacos which is a very cool concept lots of variety in flavor and something for everyone. I'm obsessed with the chile queso and the Baja taco. Not a fan of any of the breakfast tacos but I hear some are great if that is your desire. They have a well stocked bar but don't expect too many premiums. The selection is decent and on weekends they have specials and a happy hour on weekdays. They have a order then seat yourself type of flow. Service can be a little slow if it's busy. This area is up and coming and has a lot of youth aged customers so expect noise. On a sunny day there is a great view of the lake and even the option to eat on the patio. Bathrooms are small. 2 stalls and one sink only which is surprising considering how busy they get. Again, not a deal breaker. I walked around the area with friends looking for a quick bite and some drinks, and decided to try this place. It looked like a regular texmex spot inside. Overall, the food was really good. It tasted better than it looked. We ordered chips & guac, chicken fajitas, steak fajitas, the trailer park (that doesn't even sound like a good name & it was the only food we tried that didn't taste good), and damn good tots. For drinks we got the titos cherry limeade, sangria swirl, house rocks, and the sucker punch. The sucker punch was the best drink. It tastes like you should be on a resort in the islands with a pineapple garnish. The prices were good. Drinks were $8-$11 which is great for non-happy hour prices. After you place your order at the register, they give you a tracker device where they will bring your food and drinks to you. I love that I didn't have to wait there and carry my own food. So we secured seating on their outdoor patio and they came out with the food and drinks in great timing. We went on a thursday night around 8pm so it wasnt packed. read more

I just had the worst customer experience EVER! I placed an order inside, and let them know I'm going to my car to take business calls and my dog was in there. I'll be back 10-15 minutes. 15 minutes go by and I go inside, there was no one at the counter (no big deal), but I see a bag at the counter that was my order. I'm calm and chill, grab my back. I walk out of the building and almost to my car as 2 employees yelled at me and asked if I got the right order (they already knew I did) continued to lecture me on I can't go behind the counter like that and explaining someone was going to come out. Seriously who cares? The right thing to say would be to "I want to make sure you got the right order, have a nice day". As they continue to shake their head and talk sh!t under their breath I lost my cool. You do not treat people, especially customers that way. Been here twice...both times to go, both times my greedy ass started eating in the car... First time, I waited for them to complete preparation. Food wasn't hot. 2nd time I DoorDashed, never was pinged when it was ready so I went by the estimate. Food had little heat. Now I always get the democrat. Fav taco there but this location hasn't made it right like the one I normally go to on Louetta. Maybe if served hot, I'd have less complaint. I've ordered a trashy trailer park and it's hit or miss apparently. I never thought twice about ordering churros at Torchy's and if this location is any indication, ima pass! They were half cooked and barely had any cinnamon sugar. I ate one and the other 4 still bagged up for a couple days. The hillbilly queso and guacamole half orders were good. The queso reheats well so that's why. Customer service has been good both times. The first time was curbside and the young boy was helpful checking on my food. And this most recent experience, I was coming in with a handicap party behind me. As I went to hold the door, a worker said, "I got it ma'am" and proceeded to take over. AA woman with a gold tooth, I didn't catch her name. But she held the door a little while so I was happy she did that. You'd think by adding fully automated ordering that it would eliminate the need for a team member to actually work. However, what you've done is eliminate the welcoming factor into your business. There is now no face to welcome you, no team member to provide cups for your beverage, no one to help facilitate a custom taco... nada. Just a screen, lack of pulse, and a prompt for a tip at checkout! What am I tipping for? So that I can wait twice as long for my order than I did when there was an actual human present? We live in Houston so there are a bunch of TexMex restaurants, taco joints, etc. Some are pretty good but a good many are just "eh". Anyway--when I am ready for a taco, this little local gem to me hits the spot every time. Folks are polite and helpful. The place is fairly clean most of the time and stays consistently busy. When I went back up to the register to let her know, she asked me did I take the receipt to the bar and let them know that I ordered a drink. I never had to ever bring a receipt to the bar. Come to find out, the bar printer was not working and never got my drink ticket. She made my experience at the restaurant more difficult than it had to be. I'm a taco-holic and I've been to a lot of Torchy locations but this is very convenient in location and unfortunately they still are on the struggle bus when it comes to their service. I give them their stars for their menu, both for food and drinks... also love that their restaurant can be great for friends, date or even family - so that's a huge plus! As well, the location on Towne lake center is very scenic as its on the water, so that's a pro as well. What I dont love is there food always is super slow to come out or the kitchen- I've ordered dine in, to go pick up and delivery - it's a 50/50 shot you may not get exactly how you ordered something. Today my grilled shrimp taco only had 2 shrimp on it and typically its served with between 5-6 shrimp. That was disappointing The space itself has great seating, and I love their bar area as it's very lively and the bartender. I'd always very on top of it! Fill bar menu is great too! Tip: order their frozen margaritas! Verdict: I'll give them another chance/try in the future but I really hope they can improve on their turnaround for dining in customers. read more
