Tacos

The service was not great the day we stopped in for a quick lunch. Took around 30 mins to receive our tacos which seemed to have less in them than previous visits.

Trailer Park Trashy, Baja Shrimp, democrat, Green Chile Pork

Pretty good flavor! Although the queso size has definitely gone down quite a bit. The tacos themselves are good portions for a good price. The service is good, place is clean, and overall a must need for any Texas trip.

Democrat in a bowl + avocado & drink.

The food is always a hit at Torchys, so no complaints there. The flavors and the way things are made is pretty consistent with each location. Rating is a little lower for a couple of reasons. This location has self order kiosks, which I ended up having to use. I feel like it takes away from the experience, but I understand using them when there is a long line. There wasn't a line this time, but there was one person with the cashier that was taking a little bit of time, so I opted for the kiosk. Kiosk was pretty easy to use, but you have to wait for the cashier to check your receipt in order to give you a cup for your drink. So, alas, I had to wait again. While I was waiting I noticed there were many dirty tables, but not a lot customers. There is one-two people helping clean. Maybe I missed the rush. It took about 20 minutes to get my food. I ordered a Democrat in a bowl.

Ketchup? ... in a taco place?

Torchy's has come a long way from when it first came to Houston. The once edgy, fun, clean, and fusion filled taco joint that came from a bustling Taco truck that started in Austin is now a corporate, dirty, grimy, sleezy and overpriced shadow of its former self. No more Independent Taco, Maine Root sodas, or a few other staple items. The menu has changed and even originals are different and gross. The independently owned cane sugar soda fountain drinks are now syrupy Coke brand products. The prices? 30-40% more than when they opened here. This business is a prime example of what happens when a small company sells out to a corporate shill and is completely ruined. RIP Torchy's and its former self. You have forever lost my business.

What better way to end a Thursday night after a workout than to get tacos. It's now taco Thursday for us! I ordered online and got a pickup time for my order. True to form, as I walked up to the place, my order was placed on the rack for pickup orders. One tip: check your order before leaving. I was missing rice and an order of rice and beans. I always check for rewards and I got a birthday reward for free chips and queso. I swear my birthday keeps getting better and better. Their chips and queso hit the spot every time. It's filling for me like a meal. Also got our faves: fried shrimp taco, grilled fish taco, chicken fajita taco, jerk chicken (which was delicious over my leftover salad), all times 2 for me and my family. The only bad thing was my missing items but the food was very good.

Love the location! There's outdoor seating looking over the lake and I'm a sucker for a water view. Service is lacking. Although checkout was patient, there wasn't much more than that. Very slow and just oblivious of serving. Probably since it's an order at the register style restaurant but you still need to make sure the customers that you're giving the food to have everything they need before you walk away. Our chips and queso took at least a good 30 minutes while we were watching others come in and get their chips quickly. Looks like the server just couldn't find us although they gave us trackers so I'm not sure what's up. We had a variety of tacos between shrimp, migas, and beef along with the queso. In my opinion the queso was the best part. Unfortunately the tacos were pretty bland and dry. I even tried grilled versus a fried shrimp taco and the only seasoning came from the pickled onions and very little sauce. Unfortunately, I'm just not a fan.

I love coming to the boardwalk to enjoy a nice meal outside. I have not been to torchy's in a while, and I was very impressed that they have updated their menu. They even have a happy hour and some new bowls. They have added a self-serve kiosk for you to be able to order your food and pay with that cashier. I don't know why so many places are doing this, but I do love the fact that it has pictures on the menu at the kiosk.

Hung out with my favorite ladies on Sunday and we decided to eat at Torchy tacos for dinner. We decided to eat outside because the view was amazing and the weather was perfect. I chose the burrito for once alone with a small order of elote. When I tell you I was fat full my needle was up there. 10/10 The service was outstanding and the waitstaff were great.

The food was spot on and tasted great. I loved their salsa,s especially the Diablo salsa. The service is more self service in that you order and they bring it out. Drinks you do yourself as well as boxing etc. The ambiance is what you would expect from a taco shop place it's nothing amazing, but clean, well laid out, and friendly people.

The Gambler Quesadilla

I haven't had their tacos in a long time. But on my last 2 visits, I did try their chips & queso and added the Jamaican jerk chicken to it and that was good. And then I tried their Big A$$ Gambler quesadilla and made it "Trashy" (added the queso to the side). It was ok nothing to be excited about. Maybe I'll try a taco on another visit. Customer service has always been great from the cashier to their waitstaff that cleans the table. Everyone is kind and helpful and they keep the place clean.

Teresa one of the managers reached out to me about my review and apologized for my experience. The greatest part was that she even asked if I would be willing to give them a second chance. Of course I did as I love having a great experience to write about at any restaurant I visit. Trichelle was the hospitality manager that took care of my wife and I. She was absolutely amazing, our food was extremely fresh and met the standards of what you would expect from a Torchy's. Not only that she was pleasant to deal with and greeted every customer with smile and checked on everyone. I look forward to continued great experiences at this Torchy's and am glad I was offered the opportunity to update my review. Fyi the pictures look amazing, but don't do how great the food was any justice

Beautiful location and amazing food close to a great park area. We had a great time and will be back!

I have been searching for a new Mexican / Taco spot for quite some time ever since our previous…read morerestaurant changed their name and lowered their quality. My wife and I just want good quality and value with some sincere & kind service; that's all. Nothing fancy and special treatment necessary, just good old fashioned hospitality and good food. We believe we have found it this Sunday afternoon! We found them on the reviews and it looked promising so we decided to give them a try. The moment we walked in, we could tell Taco El Patron was different. The restaurant was bright, clean and very inviting with their tastefully decorated walls to their comfortable seating & table arrangement. We were greeted by a very pleasant waitress named Ashley and she and Veronica made us feel at home from the time we let them know it was our first visit to the time we left feeling high satisfied by the awesome food and first-class service. The menu was simple but gave diners many different ways to customize their food - that was a big deal to us. The chips and chicharron were delightful with their amazing bottles of superb salsas! My wife went with the asada (steak) and I couldn't decide so I asked Ashley to bring me ALL six of the selections from the special tacos section and that's what she did with a giggle saying no one has ordered all them, so they even took a photo of that massive plate of tacos and all the tasty sides! I felt like I hit the taco lottery when the platter came out and because the service was just as amazing and outstanding as the food. I had a wonderful time trying each one of the expertly crafted tacos and was so impressed with each and every bite. The prices are fair & reasonable and that's honestly a bonus since it's hard to find value for your hard earned money these days. My wife and I felt like our money was well spent and our patronage was very much appreciated. With that being said, you and your family should not waste anymore time with other trendy restaurants (you know who they are) and come to Tacos El Patron where you will hit the taco lottery like I did with amazing generous homemade style food served by a staff that treats you like family. Great Job, Ashley, Veronica and the entire kitchen crew at our new favorite taco restaurant! Check them out and tell them David & Amy sent you.

I had to go up to the bar to grab napkins and ask her for the amazing hot sauces that usually comes in the bottle. My husband ordered no onions and cilantro and got cilantro on everything. My husband ordered Al pastor and got lengua. The pastor lacked flavor. The best thing was the tripa. Although a bit greasy, it was tasty. The carnitas were good. Lengua was tender and asada was tender but lacked flavor. Not sure if tonight was an off night but the experience made me debate if I want to come back or look for a new taco spot. Ambiance was nice. Since it was my first time here, I ended up ordering 1 chorizo and 1 asada taco, churros, limon aguas, and my friend got the asada taco as well and a hortchata! Since it was super busy (especially on saturday night) it was about a 30 minute wait foe our food but it was well worth it! They hand out free chicharrones and they were super crunchy and a nice snack while we waited for our food. The limon aguas was super refreshing especially in the summer heat and the horchata was really good! We sat at the counter top that overlooks the kitchen. I love that the open kitchen concept so you can see them making your food right in front of you! Everything smelled so good so I was excited for my food. I love that they give radishes, cucumbers, and plenty of limes on the side. I definitely love all of the toppings and the more the better! I tried all of the salsas and the salsa de chile de arbol was by far my favorite! super spicy but had so much flavor. The chorizo was good but a little dry for my liking. I did just want to try it so I can try more than one flavor but I think I would get it again as a breakfast taco with egg instead. The asada was my favorite of the two so much flavor and plenty of meat! I was content with these 2 tacos but I could have definitely eaten more if we didn't order churros as well! The churros came with classic condensed milk and dulce de leche which is just carmelized condensed milk. The churros were crunchy and warm on the outside and had a chewy texture like mochi on the inside! Super yummy and not too sweet! I liked both sauces and would definitely get this again. Overall, I had a great experience and I will be craving the tacos until the next time I can come back! I can't wait to try a lot of their other menu items as well. Definitely recommend!

I'd wanted to try La Cocina for a while for that reason and those plans finally came to fruition. You walk up to a counter that has all the ingredients for taco making right in front of you. The guy asks you how many you are going to want, and if you want flour or corn, so he can let them know in the back to make your tortillas fresh. About 2 minutes later, out came our tortillas. I ordered 3: one with eggs and bacon, one with some kind of egg and sausage combo and one non-breakfast taco with fajita meat. The fajita taco was just okay, but the breakfast tacos had me thinking about them for hours after the fact. They aren't very big, so if you're a growing boy like me, I'd aim for 4-5 of them. The guy behind the counter tried to guide us into his suggestion of 2 each, but I jumped in and said make it 3 for me. If I could go back in time, I would have done 4 and made them all the breakfast variety. Both breakfast tacos were straight bangers from another dimension. All the sauces were great and none were too spicy. I might have to return to this place sooner rather than later because I really did think about it the rest of the day. I love you, La Cocina.
