Hey now, this was a pretty good call! I was out shopping for Christmas presents and saw this place called Torchy's Tacos. It's not Tuesday, but any day is a Taco day in my book so since I was here in Polaris I thought I would check it out. Food - it was good, but messy. Everything was so fresh! I tried two of the "Damn Good Tacos" and I see why they call them that. I had the: Republican - with grilled Jalapeno cheddar sausage, shredded cheese & pico de gallo on a flour tortilla. It was served with Poblano Sauce which I just dumped right in there. This was my favorite taco of the two and it had some heat. Tipsy Chick - a yummy marinated and grilled chicken, on a bed of spinach, with grilled corn, green chiles & cheddar cheese with chipotle sauce on a flour tortilla. This one was served with a side of bacon bourbon marmalade which again wasn't sure what to do with so I just put directly on the taco as well. It was good. Ambience - Torchy's is like a mix between a fast-ish/sit down specialty taco joint with a bar. Feels like fast food but sure doesn't taste like it. Limited seating on the inside. Service - ordering at the counter is pretty quick. I was greeted and the front counter employee was super nice and offered some recommendations. Food didn't take too long to make and they brought it right out to the table. Price - It was a little over $15 after tax and before tip for two tacos and a cup of water. I didn't know what to expect when I walked into this place. I love me some fast food tacos, but I also love me some sit-down quality tacos as well. I guess I expected something closer to fast food tacos, based on the look of the building and the very little I knew. I would call this more fast casual if I have to categorize it for simplicity's sake. Walk to the counter, read off of the menu, make your order with the cashier, and pay before you sit down. Easy Peasy. Then wait a few minutes and while you're sitting, they bring your order to you. But somethign about this place feels a little higher quality than fast food. I am not sure if it's the full bar as the central hub of the dining area or the fact that the tacos appear and taste higher quality than fast food. But I'd return here again. I appreciate the handful of vegetarian options. I like the queso better at other similar restaurants, but I like that Torchy's queso is unique in that I've never had one quite like it. And it's pretty good. I imagine I'll stop here occasionally (or the new one on Hamilton Rd.) for a couple of tacos and possibly even a beer or margarita to wash it down. I've been to Torchy's in Austin, and it was pretty good. So I was glad to see it here. And it has lots and lots of hype. Finally was nearby with some time, so I grabbed some. I ordered online: the street corn; a secret menu item- green chile pork missionary style taco; and the Cross Roads taco, which has brisket. I arrived five minutes before my scheduled time, and they brought the food right out. When I went to eat two minutes later in the car, it was cold. They had probably prepared it right when I ordered it, which is fine, except that I was eating it in the car, and not taking it home to microwave. But whatever. I just ate the crossroads in the car. The brisket was tender and flavorful, and finely shredded. Avocado, pickled jalapeños, a few other things, on a somewhat dry, flour tortilla. Later I heated up the rest in the microwave and: good not great. The pork taco again had good meat, though not as flavorful as the brisket and a bit dryer. Again on a dry tortilla, this time corn (your choice.) The street corn was pretty good, but then I've never had bad street corn. Prices are pretty high for the volume of food you get, and the quality. Two fairly small tacos, and a small container of street corn, for 20 bucks. I mean, nowadays, that's pretty normal, but a little more food would've been nice. And with better tacos in town, and many better food choices right nearby- heck, Chile Verde right across the street- next time I'll pass. read more

Today was my second visit to Torchy Tacos. On my first visit there was a long wait for my order. My friends received there order long before I received my food, though I ordered before they arrived. The manager gave me some complimentary coupons as an apology. I used those coupons on today's order. On this visit I went with the carryout option. I grabbed three tacos with beef barbacoa and avocado (The Democrat). I received a complimentary beverage while I waited for my order. The food was ready in a short amount of time. First visit for a late lunch (3:00) on a Saturday. We weren't sure if there was a bar, and sure enough, there is. Our bartender was great, friendly, and knew the menu. On weekends, they have a selection of 4 cocktails for $4.25 each: Sangria, Bloody Mary, Mimosa, & Tequila Sunrise. I chose the Tequila Sunrise. I was happy they use paper straws vs. plastic. Their regular happy hour is Mon-Fri 3-6pm. The margaritas and cocktails are $2 off, and wine/draft & bottled beer are $1.50 off. They offer breakfast tacos, so the mimosa would be a perfect brunch drink. The tacos are in the $4-6 range and we were told most people order 2, so they are fairly large. I had the Mr. Orange, which was the blackened salmon, and the Fried Avocado, with a side of the street corn. The salmon was very good and I would order again. The avocado was disappointing: one fried avocado ball, with a lot of refried beans and too much shredded cheese. The street corn was good, but then I thought it had more spice than I like, so my guy finished it. He had 2 beef fajita tacos and said they were ok. Bottom line is my expectations were too high because it is a fast food joint, but at the same time, our bar experience was good. Fast casual Tex-Amex that hits the spot! Stopped in on a Friday night for a quick dinner and it was delicious! We have been several times and it's consistently good food and good service. We got queso to share (it's spicy for me but I have low spice tolerance), and I got two kids chicken quesadillas (not on the normal menu) that were portion wise about 1.5 normal tacos. It was delicious and I'd highly recommend (and love if they added an adult sized item). I've also had their chicken fajita taco and it is a solid choice too! Kind of a chaotic menu on the wall with crazy names for everything but we figured it out. I thought it would be more basic/traditional tacos but they have a very wild mix of flavors. LOVED my Tipsy Chick taco - that Bacon bourbon marmalade was *chef's kiss* Hubby liked his Trailer Park taco, recommended by the staff, but overall it wasn't his jam. I really liked this place because it's not low quality fast food, but it's not expensive fine dining. It's the place you go when you want something casual and can fill up on good food. I have to start off by mentioning the hillbilly queso. You must order this! It has chorizo and when everything is mixed together, it's delicious! We smashed a basket of chips with just half an order of queso. The chips were pretty salty, but every basket varies. I also ordered the Tipsy Chick and Mr. Orange tacos. Both were loaded! I think two tacos would fill up most people. The Mr. Orange taco was probably my favorite. The black beans and corn went so well with the salmon. Plus, I think corn tortillas are better. But the Tipsy Chick did not disappoint! I got my fill of cheddar cheese! We finished our meal off with Lil' Nookies, which are fried chocolate chip cookie dough balls. I feel like I shouldn't need to review that item. It's pretty obvious that they're delicious! The cherries were a nice touch too. We sat at the bar and our waitress was new. After driving by this place several times on the way to CostCo I finally decided to stop and grab some tacos and chips and guac. It's kind of a weird experience, walking in, and around a divider to order. Fortunately the lady behind the register was helpful in making suggestions, talking about what's popular, and making it easy to identify a couple tacos to consume. You're handed a pager, you find a seat. Simple. There's a stretch of a bar, a bit of seating inside (even if the layout is weird) and a patio. Can't really ask for much more in Polaris. The queso and chips were good - the cotilla cheese was a nice addition with the green onions (whatever - I like my queso with stuff in/on it!) The tacos were tasty, not too messy. I wasn't overly impressed with the breakfast taco (it felt lazy) but the trash taco was different and tasty. I know, it's an Austin institution, but I think it suffers from hype - it's good, but not amazing. I'd come back again, and I would recommend anyone that likes YT people tacos to check it out. After 9pm there's not many food choices in Polaris. We decided to try Torchy's. Just up the street from where I live, the place was pretty busy. Parking was good and the place has a nice vibe. We sat at the bar which seats about 10 and has 3 large TVs. Our bartender was super attentive and friendly, and was honest about what to try since it was our first time there. We started with 2 Rocks Margaritas which packed a nice punch but had a balanced flavor. The crushed ice made it a little hard to sip thru the paper straw. Next we ordered the Queso topped with cilantro, avocado, cojita cheese and Diablo sauce. Really good queso! I would probably skip the Diablo sauce next time, because it added a lasting heat. I ordered the Crossroads and the Trailer Park. The Crossroads had plenty of smoked brisket and the avocado added that cool creaminess. The Trailer Park has fried chicken, pico, cheese, lettuce and was more of a basic taco. I added the Bacon Bourbon marmalade which completely took it up several flavor notches. I highly recommend it! My girl got the Tipsy Chick which was grilled chicken with spinach, grilled corn, cheddar cheese and that Bacon Bourbon marmalade. She loved it! I will probably get it next time.. Drinks and food came to $46 and change plus tip. Honestly it was a great experience for a first time stop and we will definitely be back. We were shopping in the area, drove by and saw an old Texas Favorite just outside of Costo and Carfagna's. We had no doubts we were stopping and stopped in for lunch. To our surprise it was Torchy's soft opening day - PURE LUCK BUT AWESOME!!! Team was cranking on all cylinders, with great helping staff from Austin and San Antonio. We ordered a tacos, sat down at the bar (full service) and started by enjoying their amazing Queso and Chips (a must have for first time and returning visitors). Learned that you can order food and drinks from the full service bar - hint for next time. Tacos - we ordered the Wrangler (Brisket-Breakfast taco); a Bacon-Egg & Cheese Taco; then a favorite from when we visit Texas - A "Trashy" Trailerpark Taco (Fried Chicken-Chiles-pico and cheese. Trashy is Torchy's way of taking off the lettuce and covering it with Queso! I would also recommend their Democrat and Mr. Orange Tacos too. Grab a soda, adult drink and just chill out. Decided to stop in here during our day trip and we are so glad we did! We were the first customers but shortly after we arrived people started trickling in for lunch. You place your order at the front desk and pay before you select a seat. We got some adult beverages; Torchys Paloma and Tito's Cherry Limeade. The drinks didn't come out until after our food but the bartender delivered them to us and apologized that she had not seen the ticket for our drinks. She seemed very genuine and friendly. Our food didn't take long to come to us so the drinks weren't a huge deal anyway. I loved the Torchys Paloma--it was crisp and cold and left a heat in the back of my throat! Hubby enjoyed his cherry limeade as well. My Baja shrimp had a nice presentation--when I picked it up I realized just how full that little sucker was--definitely enough fillings for two tortillas! I ordered the churros and lil nookies to go. After waiting for what seemed like forever, I asked the manager if my food was coming and his response was: "it hasn't even been 10 minutes yet. Fortunately, there was a nice worker (wearing glasses) who offered to check on my food. After waiting for a total of 20 mins, I finally got my order... the lil nookies were not warm (seemed like they were sitting on the counter for a bit) and the churros were burnt. Pretty messy but that's ok. You can't expect tacos not to be, but I just felt like they were more messy than other places. I agree with others, the prices are a little high for the quality you get. I spent about $17 for just the 3 tacos. I got a water but if I got a drink I would have been around $20 for all. I don't mind spending that much, but I felt like it was something a child would have made if they had some Tyson's chicken, some sauce, cheese and tortillas laying around. The shrimp in the baja shrimp taco and the chicken in the trailer park tacos were too fried and made the taco extremely dry. The mr orange taco had blackened salom which was decent. Of all the three taco i felt Mr Orange was little better. Also ordered their Diablo sauce on the side which wasn't spicy as expected. A friend in Austin always recommends this place, so I was excited to be able to try it here. Maybe my expectations were too high because of that, but this was a really disappointing Taco Monday. I ordered online, and as soon as I mentioned that at the register, the two people working seemed to lose all interest in customer service. One did go to the kitchen to check on my order, but then told me nothing about it, so I just stood around for 10 minutes not knowing what was happening. Eventually she came back from stocking the soda machine and was very nice about giving me my drink and getting the food when it was ready, but it was really weird. The tacos themselves were OK? The basic breakfast taco was fine, although the only seasoning seemed to be the sauce you get with it, and the brisket breakfast taco was OK. The steak breakfast taco was incredibly greasy and the meat was very tough, so I didn't even finish that one. With all three tacos, the foil was stuck to most of the cheese, so I could either scrape it off with my teeth or throw away a good third of my toppings. Chips reminded me of Moe's. I got one taco, the trailer trash per bartender recommendation. This was your pretty basic white person taco with fried chicken on a flour tortilla. I was hoping it would be similar to Taco Bell's Cantina Crispy Chicken tacos but not really. It was fine, larger than expected, and then I noticed a little sauce in a cup which added a nice touch of flavor. The sauce reminded me of the Chuy's white creamy jalapeño sauce but not spicy.
