Topside is one of the city's staples, thanks to the charming views of the monument & surrounding parks. The service/attitude here is a bit of a hit or miss--nothing too bad, but there have been times when things felt awkward with random comments from the host/servers. Just keep in mind that the monument view is only possible from one side of the restaurant (make sure you tell the host if you are there for the views). The atmosphere is quite nice and has an upscale feel. Their small plates and cocktails make a great combination--I prefer those over their entrees. I'm 2 visits in so far and I can say, I like Topside, I do. I want to love it though, not there yet and here's why. The food menu is rather small. The portion sizes are even smaller and on both occasions by some of our food came out room temperature, almost cold. On my first visit with the good girlfriends on a Saturday evening we tried the following: French 75's, Love's First Kiss (Sangria) and Red Wine. Enjoyed them, we all got seconds. For appetizers we started with a Charcuterie Board, Breadbasket and Mushroom Soup. We loved the Charcuterie Board, hard pass on the Breadbasket - literally nothing to write about. I loved the flavors in the soup, but it wasn't served piping hot, more on the room temperature side. For entrees we went with the Chilean Sea Bass, Seafood Rice and Short Rib. We loved each dish! The only thing that was served hot was the Sea Bass. We were hungry after eating dinner but didn't want to order anything else there. On my second visit with a friend, we tried the following: Sunshine Daydream, Vampire Blue's and a French 75 because I really enjoyed it last time. We tried the grilled calamari for an appetizer. Liked it but served room temperature. For entrees we tried the Arctic Char and Scallop Pasta. The Arctic Char was okay - nothing to write about. The Scallop Pasta was too good - but such a small portion. TLDR; stunning views, creative cocktails but outlandish prices for mediocre food. Okay, hear me out. Topside has been one of my favorite spots to take non-locals and newcomers to because of the wow factor from the panoramic, rooftop, view. The view remains stunning as does the decor but other things have not lived up to the hype. I've mainly come here for drinks because they're pretty creative and again, the ambiance is great for dates or hanging with pals. I came here last Friday on an empty stomach and was set on ordering food. When we arrived, the bar was completely full and we were quoted a 90 minute wait for a table. When I asked if the couch in the corner was available for open seating, so we could at least grab a drink while we waited, none of the three people at the host stand seemed to know. Before I got an answer, a table magically became available within 5 minutes. Now onto the food. The menu is actually surprisingly limited. There's very few vegetarian options and the one meatless entree I spotted was "roasted carrots" which was priced at $24... where are these carrots being grown, Beyoncé's garden?! Perhaps the most insulting item on the menu is the bread basket with butter priced at $14. Sheesh. My friend and I opted to just grab drinks and an appetizer and landed on the cheese board. What we got was three (yes, three) pieces of semi-stale bread, and a selection of three little pieces of cheese for...wait for it...$16. When it came out we just looked at it and laughed. Three pieces of bread for a charcuterie board over $10 is just outlandish - especially when most tables have at least two people. We ended up eating most of the cheese by itself because - surprise, surprise - we ran out of bread. One of the cheeses was a soft, cream-cheese-like, spread that couldn't be eaten by itself so it remained unfinished. When our server came by and asked if we liked the cream-cheeseish selection I said, "yes, it was good but we ran out of bread so we couldn't finish it". She didn't really say much and didn't offer to bring more. Judging by the prices on the menu, I'm sure there would've been an upcharge too. We didn't even bother with entrees and grabbed the check and went elsewhere for a real meal. Overall, the check was around $60 for two drinks and and an itty bitty cheese board. I've rated this place at 3-stars, "OK", because I do still love the atmosphere and the drinks but the menu needs a major upgrade and the prices seem unjustified for the quality and quantity. I understand that you're mainly paying for the view at a place like this but c'mon, this isn't New York City and the prices should reflect that. read more

Haven't been back to topside since last year's yelp event in the spring. This time, we were in the bar/dining room area instead of the garden (only because the garden was full) The view was so pretty and we just happened to have booked a reservation right around sunset time, so we got to enjoy the view - and take gorgeous pictures of mount vernon. The view is truly one of my favorites of baltimore. We weren't too hungry so we just grabbed two cocktails and snacks. I highly recommend the thirst trap, it's one of the classics. It's not too sweet or too strong, with a hint of sour + matcha. The baked oysters are a must get. I will say it's a little pricey for half a dozen, but the garlic buttery goodness was worth it. The cauliflowers were highly recommended in many of the review, so we ordered it as well. It was just OK, maybe because some of it was overly fried (too oily) and some parts of it wasn't seasoned enough. I would definitely come back for drinks. There was a group of people who reserved parts of the dining area for a private party, so if you're looking for a place to host a birthday party or an event, topside is a great spot especially given the view and the drinks. read more

Views. For. Days! My husband saw a photo from the inside of Topside and decided we had to go. I checked out the menu and agreed. The restaurant is located on top of the Rivalry Hotel and once you enter, it's a quick escalator ride up to the top floor. The restaurant is dimly lit which gives you an amazing view of the Mount Vernon neighborhood as well as the statue that stands right outside! All the tables seem to have a good view as well which is awesome. We started with a bottle of champagne and ordered the charcuterie board which was delicious but if you want cheese, you have to get that separately. I was expecting cheese but didn't really miss it. You get prosciutto and this thick, steak like meat which is so yummy. For entrees, I got the seafood rice and my husband got the burger. The seafood rice was loaded with scallops and shrimp and mussels and the rice was a little salty, but the whole dish came with half a charred lemon and that made it all super balanced and yummy. The burger was standard but the fries were SO good and meaty. For dessert, we got the vanilla gelato and Nutella Napoleon. The wafers were too thin in my opinion and the fillings overpowered them but overall it was a good dessert paired with the gelato. I will say the food took a while to come out and I think the chef came out with the dessert and apologized and our waiter was really attentive while we were waiting. It was very nice but honestly, the views keep you entertained. I would come back to try different items or just grab a drink and enjoy the scenery! read more

Topside is the ultimate date/golden/happy hour spot! The cocktail menu has so many fun concoctions--we tried a sangria with lychee and a fruity spritz. For dishes, we shared the scallop pasta per our waiter's suggestion, which did mot disappoint! Rich and cheesy with a sprinkle of old bay to TOP it off. For $30 it was a little pricey for the size of the dish, but taste wise TOP notch. Okay but parking was low key a struggle. There was a fair of some sort happening around the Washington monument so streets were pretty congested. Topside has THE BEST view in the city. The decor, the view, the drinks, the food, it's all outstanding and makes it one of Baltimore's most-see places. It is located on the top floor of the Hotel Revival, another beautifully restored old Baltimore building. Enter the elevators and head to the 15th/R floor to then step out into a small little oasis on top of the city. The garden room to the right is a beautiful space, perfect for a private party. The decor has me reminiscent of a 70s tropical theme night in all the right ways. And the bar/restaurant area to the left is straight out of HGTV, it's just gorgeous - tiled floor, black cabinet and brick, light wood colored bar; love all of it. Not to mention the view. It boasts a ~270 degree view of Baltimore and really cannot be beat. Any time of day, any where you sit in the dining room, you are sure to get a good look at our city. So not only is this a beautiful place to hangout, but Topside hosts my favorite cocktails and small plates. If you can make it for happy hour during the week, get the cocktail of the day where bartender who is feeling the most creative that day improvises and creates something that is sure to intrigue you. There are also a number of great wines and beers available and for when you're looking to have a real good time, boilermakers for a shot and a beer combo. They recently got a new chef a few months ago so the menu has changed a bit, but I have not had a small plate here that I did not love. My preference is to skip the entree and order a few of the small plates like the miso eggplant dip, watermelon cucumber salad, chicken wings, cauliflower, etc. It's places like Topside that make me proud to show off Baltimore. So proud in fact that we brought all of our friends and family here after our wedding rehearsal dinner. There was not a somber (or sober) person at the bar :) read more

Top tier first date place. As stated, I came for oysters and there weren't any (the menu on here is old of that's what you are looking for) but I had the grilled calamari and it was DELICIOUS. I mostly only write reviews when I have a great or really bad experience and I'm happy to say this was outstanding! My husband and I visit our daughter in Baltimore often and have hit many top-rated restaurants. I feel Topside is actually underrated for the experience we had. Outstanding cocktails, amazing food, great service, and ambience and view cannot be beat. We had the ricotta appetizer, short ribs, burger, goat cheese ravioli, chocolate mousse, and peach short cake. All were delicious. And eating it while watching the sunset over Baltimore was amazing! Celebratory drinks? Yes. Where? Topside! My friend and I toasted to our recent achievement at Topside. We were really interested in the view and the cocktails also caught our attention. We made a reservation online and were seated promptly upon our arrival. I was lucky enough to find street parking. We were a bit confused about where the entrance was at first, but then we quickly found our way up to the top. Jada was our server last night and she was incredible! She patiently explained the specials and answered our questions about the drinks. She also checked in with us throughout our time. I ordered the Thirst Trap and this drink was incredible, both in taste and presentation. This drink was worth the price because it was both strong and delicious! The sunny view is also beautiful! My only complaint was that there were no appetizers/small plates. The food was also not very vegan (or even vegetarian) friendly, although I do not know if the kitchen would have been able to make modifications. The dinner menu consisted of 6 options and they were hearty meals, like squid ink pasta, caesar salad with protein additions, and a cheeseburger. Jada reassured us that they were working on adding small plates to the menu. We look forward to checking out Topside, and maybe next time at night to see all the lights! The best 10 p.m. second dinner of my life, I ordered the braised beef nachos and they were SO GOOD. The beef itself was so tender and flavorful and the salsa verde was fresh and super cilantro-y. If you're down for a lil bit of a splurge, I think it's worth it. Having a bad day? Get the beef nachos. I also got a side of fries that were also delicious, well cooked and seasoned. I have been told I have the palate of a 13 year old boy--this palate did not let me down tonight. Besides the food, I love Topside vibes. The views of Mt. Wow!! So funny to think I have never wrote a review for Topside as many times as I have been! Topside is ONE of my favorite places in Baltimore! Located overlooking Mount Vernon and the city this is a great place to watch a sunset or see the city from a Birds Eye view! The drinks and atmosphere have always been really good but I am so happy to see their new extended menu. I have had the chicken, cheese board, green salad, grilled calamari, scallops and tonight the short ribs which were unreal. The food is always very flavorful and nicely portioned. The service is A+ as well. The staff are very friendly and patient. They give helpful recommendations when it comes to the menu also. I do miss that the additional space in the back isn't in use as that's a fun lounge area which could have its own vibe! This place looked amazing on Yelp so I made an effort to try them out while I was visiting town for the first time. I initially wanted to try their squid ink crab pasta, but scheduling didn't work out so I went for brunch instead. Little did I know that they have a FANTASTIC view of Baltimore, and the overall aesthetics were super pretty and great for your IG needs. + Short Rib Hash: I liked how the short rib was very easy to pull apart and the edges were sweet/"candied" and kinda "burnt" in a yummy way. The two runny egg yolks with the green onions were great additions to the hardy potatoes and the meat. + Chicken and Waffles: I really enjoyed how the waffles were fried, kinda like donuts? Crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I personally prefer chicken on bones to chicken tenders so I was a little disappointed, but the batter was quite solid with crispy bread crumbs. The agave sauce was quite delicious and different from regular syrup. + Thirst Trap (cocktail): I appreciated the lime/lemon flavors in this drink. I wanted to try this drink cause the ingredients included matcha, but I didn't taste any of it at all. It wasn't too strong and went well with the dishes I ate. I went on a Sunday morning and was surprised that my party of 2 got seated right away. Staff members were super nice and all wearing masks appropriately. Such a chic spot at the top of the Revival hotel. Excellent cocktails, apps, entrees, and dessert. The ricottta is incredible, comes with raisin bread which initially sounded strange but it worked. Loved the short rib, the flavor of the meat was excellent. Also enjoyed the carrot and pomme purée that came with the short rib. The salted caramel ice cream was decadent. This place was very unique! It was our first time visiting and we came for one of the night brunches that was hosted here! First off let's talk about the location and the view! You can overlook the entire city. It's truly beautiful and has a nice ambiance. There are tons of games to play, in what is a sort of game area! It's just a really great vibe to be around with friends. Their drinks and food are delicious. While there, I had about 3 apricot bellini's! I'm not sure if this is a regular drink or something that was being featured for the event, but boy was it tasty! We also ordered some chilequeles (I'm pretty positive I misspelled that) which were outstanding! When they first got to the table they didn't look so appetizing but wow, my husband and I devoured them! Great atmosphere and view from the top floor of this hotel. The place gets busy so highly recommend getting a reservation. We ordered some cocktails and apps as well as our entrees. Everything was really good! My favorite was the chicken with butternut squash and Brussels sprouts. Topside's view of Baltimore is absolutely amazing! Set atop a beautiful hotel, Topside is fun and cool. A friend and I came for Happy Hour before another event. Service was great! So sweet, answered all our questions and gave yummy recommendations. Due to COVID-19, we chose to do the outside dining instead of inside with the view. Outside was just as fun, weather was nice and good for people watching. We shared a few small plates, Buffalo Cauliflower, cooked perfectly, yummy sauce with the right amount of heat which lingers on the back of your throat. Edamame Hummus, great texture and the house made chips were perfect. Parmesan Truffle Fries, I love fries! These did not disappoint. All of the above were $5-6 each. All were worth that or more. We also had the Guacamole. A bit on the lime side but still good for $14. The definite stand outs were the drinks! I went with the bartenders choice, Dark and Stormy, dark rum and ginger beer. They say three strikes and your out; two may be it for us. This is a two-visit review. I went to Topside a few weeks ago for my daughter's birthday, made a reservation and asked for a window seat and a desert with a candle (but to downplay it). I wore a jacket and dress shirt - the website said there was a dress code. Turns out t-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops are the actual dress code for most. The food was ok, but speciality drinks on the menu were meh and not worth the $. Service was awful!! Hostesses eventually found the reservation and seated us away from the windows, and the waiter was too busy to care and then blurted out about celebrating a special event. Food was okay and we enjoyed the view when we walked around. Tonight we didn't make a reservation and showed up at the same time as a large group also without a reservation. They got a window seat, and we got the same table as the first time, away from the windows. When we asked about an empty window table, the hostess was dismissive, saying it was being held for a reservation. The same waiter appeared, and he was as awful as the first time, very dismissive and inattentive to some tables. I ordered a speciality drink for $18; when It came, it was the size of a shot glass and smelled like bunker fuel. The taste was meh. So then I ordered a beer, which never came (my daughter reminded me of the same thing that happened the first time). We ordered an appetiser, which was very nice. We then ordered entrees but relatively quickly decided let's cancel, pay the bill and go somewhere else. I got the waiter's attention and told him, and he got pissy and decided we wanted to go meals and stormed off. I waved down someone else and told them we wanted to cancel, the waiter came back, and we got louder voices and tude. So we said fine, we will stay. Waiter quickly brought out my burger in a to-go box and tossed a box at my daughter to pack her salad. He then hovered over us to get the bill paid. I had planned to bring my husband here for his first dinner in Baltimore. I had hoped we had found a nice regular place in the neighbourhood. I think we will pass!!! read more

Went for an anniversary dinner last weekend. They forgot the anniversary, but that was the least of their oversights. The restaurant is small and surrounds a busy, crowded, loud bar. I could not hear my date at all over the music and the conversation from people crowding against our table. The food was very bland with little seasoning and nothing to set it apart as interesting or in any way remarkable. I doused both my dishes with salt and pepper, but then they only tasted like ... salt and pepper. I can say one good thing about this place: the view is lovely! The biggest disappointment was honestly the dessert. Not sure if it was an off day but we a few to share and none were good. The ice cream sandwiches were hard with unbalanced flavors (we got a strawberry shortcake one which was overall way too sour). I also ordered some peanut butter/fudge bar which was immensely hard and tasted more like a healthy cereal bar than a dessert. It would take some convincing for me to try their desserts again. Came here for lunch because it's supposed to be Restaurant Week, but it's not--because it has to close by 5 p.m. by Baltimore City orders. Despite not getting the restaurant week deal, the price wasn't that far off and the food was delicious! We got 4 grilled oysters (to die for), prosciutto marscarpone crostini (amazing blend of flavors), truffle fries (who can resist?), and a salad with grilled shrimp. Everything tasted amazing--and the grilled shrimp dipped in leftover grilled oyster butter? Even better! The view's spectacular, we were seated at the window looking at Washington Monument. My wife and I and a couple of friends went for dinner a few nights ago. I had read about topside and it was labeled as one of the hot new restaurants in Baltimore. We arrived on time and was immediately seated. As soon as you walk in the view will take your breathe away. Almost a 360 degree view of the city. After we sad down is when it went downhill. First off the restaurant was not busy at all. There was plenty of open tables all through the place. It took a extremely long time to get our drinks and they weren't exactly correct. My friend ordered a Manhattan which seems pretty straight forward came to our table completely wrong. Also the bartenders were unaware how to make a French 75!! Pretty classic drink!! The food was ok, it wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing.... it was simply ok and not worth the price. No one in our party was super excited about our food. Would I recommend this place. No I wouldn't.
