My wife and I and a couple of friends went for dinner a few nights ago. I had read about topside and it was labeled as one of the hot new restaurants in Baltimore. We arrived on time and was immediately seated. As soon as you walk in the view will take your breathe away. Almost a 360 degree view of the city. After we sad down is when it went downhill. First off the restaurant was not busy at all. There was plenty of open tables all through the place. It took a extremely long time to get our drinks and they weren't exactly correct. My friend ordered a Manhattan which seems pretty straight forward came to our table completely wrong. Also the bartenders were unaware how to make a French 75!! Pretty classic drink!! The food was ok, it wasn't bad, it wasn't amazing.... it was simply ok and not worth the price. No one in our party was super excited about our food. Would I recommend this place. No I wouldn't. If someone invited me to go then yeah I might give it one more shot read more

A friend and I came for dinner at 5pm and were promptly seated in a booth next to a large window facing west. Perfect for a sunset meal! Loved the lighting and the long booths! Friendly, helpful waitstaff assisted me in choosing a beer (can't go wrong with Manor Hill!). Though my steak was superb, it was a bit expensive. I was very pleased with the ambiance and the view that Topside gives! A very nice panoramic view of the Mount Vernon area. Very romantic place for a date with a sweetheart or to catch-up with friends. Jacquetta(?) and Nola were friendly and very attentive. My only concern is with Sue, the waitress. I believe that she needs proper training to properly engage with professional clientele. She should erase any preconceived notions that she may have about people that she may have picked up from working at a fast food restaurant or just in life in general. She should be coached to NEVER assume ANYTHING and to let the customer speak what they need. And never let your response be "it comes the way it comes" when a customer asked for their fish to be cooked extra extra well done. She should learn to thoroughly explain what comes with the dish/entree that one asks about. And never say "do you know what that is?" Instead, explain with the most enticing energy the dish. Jacquetta rescued us from having to further be subjected to Sue's high-strung energy by correcting everything that was amiss by having the fish prepared the way we asked for and having a much calmer demeanor. I think a bit more training and oversight, Sue can use it to become a better waitress. The food was incredible. Chef's kiss to the cooks! Great cocktails. Check. Great food. Check. Great Service. Check. I count that as a win for my first foray to Topside. My friend and I had a couple of things to eat from the happy hour menu, which honestly wasn't particularly memorable, but Topside made up for that with their specialty cocktails and atmosphere. I love the addition of the street mural which give Topside a cool, trendy feel. I'll need to head back for the dinner service, but this is a great spot for a happy hour date. read more

Still loving this place! After my slightly-tipsy review at the soft opening, I can now comment on more than just the drinks! I got the quail yakitori and the fluke ceviche, and my friends all got the burgers. We were all super happy with our food - they voted their burgers "better than Brewer's Art" and while the quail wasn't quite what I was expecting, it was delicious. The ceviche was really great on all counts. I do wish there were more shareable dishes on the menu, but that's more of a personal preference. The service is great - it's busy because of the opening of course, but whenever something was delayed or unavailable, they were fast to either bring a different drink in the interim or comp the alternative, which was really nice. Our server, Patrick, was great and really attentive - and he knew the menu extremely well. All of his recommendations were on point! After spending some time at Topside, we wandered into Square Meal, where Brad was kind enough to tell us about the menu - all local and focused on making use of every part of the animal/plant - and everything sounded amazing! Attended an event in the Garden Room, such a beautiful view it makes me wish I worked in the area to go sit and relax after a hard day. Plus they have an amazing selection of nostalgic games (uno, jumangi, jenga) and new ones (heads up) There is easy street parking all around, then a nice elevator ride to their top hidden oasis. Many seating room options, with unique seating "nooks"; you can have ottomans with a window, beach/lawn chairs surrounded by plants, couches with gorgeous dinnerware, or just up classy space and sit at the bar. It's all so pretty you'll want to rotate around (which Im glad I had a chance to do!) The bar was fully stocked, the bartenders were a delight. Anything you can think of they can make, because really even if they couldn't make it they came pretty close to something to help you kick the craving. They made it fun. The food was ok; I didn't get a chance to see what a full menu was like because they just brought things out occasionally, and we ended up with wings, fried chicken skin, and ceviche. The wings were hearty, delicious peanut sauce with some veggie zest sprinkled over. They put chunks of peanuts on top (I don't eat peanuts so this made it gross for me but I can appreciate the freshness and presentation-very well done). The chicken skin was gross-overly crispy no flavor-skip the wasted calories trying it. The ceviche wasn't normal expected ceviche. It reminded me of Chopped, like the chef had a weird basket and tried to pull it off, which they did. Overall, I'd go for the drinks and the view (play some nostalgia games) read more

This is the place to come to impress someone. It has panoramic views of the city and somehow maintains a relatively casual ambiance. The drinks are delicious and I can't wait to try the food! They paired up with a few local breweries to create beers specifically for the hotel and experience of staying there. All the cocktails are $13 but you can pay the same price for a beer and "small cocktail". They even wrote about this concept in Vogue Magazine so they must be on to something here. The interior is super trendy and beautiful. There's tables overlooking it all and a side with couches and games. I'm excited to return back here! Had a the chance to try this place. Overall great experience. The vibe is nice, and it's a rooftop restaurant overlooking Baltimore. Very dark. Our server was very nice but it took 15 minutes For drinks to arrive which was a little long. Food came out nicely paced after that. We had the octopus, cheese board, green salad and bread basket. Octopus could be a little crispier (it seemed like they boiled it too long then charred.) and came with potatoes and chorizo, cheese was basic. Bread basket was huge and all homemade. For dinner two of us had the short rib based on photos and reviews. Overall good, would have loved it served hot though. Another had the huge ribeye and chicken dish both loved. The portions were quite large compared to other restaurants in Baltimore, and prices reasonable. They have old fashions on tap, which is kind of fun. Came with one of my friends on a Tuesday night, plenty of seating with beautiful views overlooking Mt Vernon. Had heard about this place for many years but this was my first time. My friend and I got the octopus which was amazing--super tender and not chewy at all. Loved the chorizo and potatoes that went with it as well. The ricotta was tasty but probably wouldn't get it again--I thought the raisins in the raisin bread actually overpowered the ricotta itself. For entrees we got the branzino and duck, which were both perfectly cooked. My favorite was the duck which came with an amazing celery root puree and the apricot jus added some nice sweetness (the combination of the two caused us to wipe up every last drop from the plate). For dessert, there was an amazing passion fruit panne cotta--highly recommend. All in all the dinner ended up being pretty pricey, but definitely worth the splurge for a special night. read more

I've been to Topside a handful of times, mostly for Night Brunch, and I've traditionally sat at the bar. Service is good at the bar, despite large Night Brunch crowds, and the food is very good. I absolutely love the space, it's like a little jewel box in the sky. It's unfortunate there is no outside space on the rooftop, but it doesn't detract from the views and the awesomeness of the interior. Yesterday I went to Topside for brunch with a few of my friends and I was seated at a table for the first time. Things started out well, with the waitress coming over and taking our drink orders. 3 out of my group went with a bottomless drink option. She brought out our drinks and things seemed to slide downhill from there. It took around 10 minutes for her to come back to take our entree orders. 3 of us went with the burger platter and had special requests in each case. The waitress took the info down, went to put in the orders. She wasn't as quick to refill my mimosa as I was drinking them. I feel like they could have left a carafe for the 2 of us in the group drinking mimosas. One friend waited forever for a Coke refill and ended up having to ask the waitress for one. Finally our food starts to come out and 2 of the burger requests were wrong, luckily not mine. I was able to share my toppings with one of my friends so we finagled her order to perfection. Overall the food was very tasty. That's one thing that hasn't changed. We eat, several servers come clear the table piecemeal, which was weird. The waitress asks how we'd like our check, we say individual checks, she brings back a bill that HAS NOT been split and disappears for a while. I had to flag down another waitress to get our waitresses attention so she could split the tab properly (and bring me another mimosa). Finally we paid then left. I like this place and will go back, but I'd suggest retraining the service staff. Crappy service is not what's up. read more

Lunchtime! My sister and I came here for lunch during the summer around 1 pm. Topside had advertised their new lunch menu on Instagram and we wanted to give it a try since we love to eat good food haha. Topside is located inside of Hotel Revival, it's on the top floor where you can see Baltimore city and the beautiful Washington Monument. If you are afraid of heights, don't get too close to the window lol. The hostess sat us down in a booth by the window, at that moment construction was going on outside. Some of the views were blocked off. Anywho, we ordered an appetizer to start with (eggplant dip with sweet potato chips). It was an interesting combination but good. Now for the entrees, I ordered the Topside burger with a mixed green salad and she ordered the catfish sandwich with fries. I have to say the Topside burger was really good. It had a bacon jam, which I never heard of before. I like bacon on my burger however, sometimes it can be too hard and not tasteful. Now, this bacon jam has the best of both worlds. The burger was juicy and seasoned very well. Her catfish sandwich was pretty good, I had a piece. It was seasoned very well however, I prefer my burger over the catfish sandwich. The side salad was pretty interesting, it's not your typical side salad. Overall I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for nice views and unique food. Located in a beautiful hotel, this restaurant provides a great vibe. The views are gorgeous. The staff in the hotel as well as the restaurant are very friendly and professional. Our waiter Tyler was so cool. The menu provided gluten free options and the food was good although the portion size could be more considering the price. We had the sangria for our drink and that was tasty as well. Topside is a great place for date night as well as girls night out. Topside is an elegant rooftop bar with an excellent view of Baltimore city. The restaurant is located on the 15th floor of Hotel Revival. My friends and I came here during restaurant week. They each ordered the short rib sliders, a tomato-based pasta, and an ice cream sundae for $35 a person. I, on the other hand, diverted from the restaurant week special and ordered the wagyu filet ($34). The sliders were tender, and the pickled vegetables complemented the favor of the meat well. The pasta was a little bland, but I could tell that the vegetables within the pasta were fresh. The ice cream sundae was nothing special. It included two scoops of vanilla ice cream and sides of crushed oreos, sprinkles, and caramel that you could add to your liking. The wagyu exceeded my expectations. It was tender and cooked to perfection (medium rare). The surface of the filet was charred to give it a smoky taste, and the center of the filet had a warm pink center. The meat also came with a variety of vegetables coated in a sweet sauce. Topside is a very cool joint residing, as the name suggests, on the top floor of the Hotel Revival. From the lobby of the hotel to stepping out into the restaurant you feel in such a completely different area apart from Mt Vernon - it all feels so uniquely designed and modern. Boasting a big horseshoe bar, seating wrapping around the windows, and a self seat(no waiter service) other end of the restaurant means if you couldn't get a reservation you could still drop by(be prepared to get your own drink at the bar - they'll bring the food to you when it's ready) It's a very nice view of the area, effectively the same as the view from the Washington monument at the center of Mt Vernon Square - you can also look Mr. Washington in the face across the way. The food was all good to great! The burger was juicy, flavorful, seasoned just right - came on a nice hefty bun with a well balanced assortment of condiments. Also tried a hummus/babaganoush style dish with beet chips(iirc) that was tasty, but nothing I'd crave in the future. Everyone enjoyed their meals, the setting, and that we could self seat ourselves! Bored on a Saturday night and decided that I wanted to go somewhere with a view. Settled on Topside located in Mount Vernon. The restaurant is located on the one of the upper floors of Hotel Revival on Monument Street. Upon arriving we were told that the restaurant was closing early that evening for a special event however we could still be seated. Our server arrived quickly and she was very attentive trying to make sure that we got our order in before the kitchen closed. We decided on the Topside Burger and the Chilean Sea Bass. I requested that the burger be cooked medium well however when it did arrive, based on the consistency and the color it was clearly medium to me. The sea bass was a completely different story. On the initial bite I would say the flavor of it was pretty enjoyable however the center of the dish was lukewarm at best. It actually felt a little cool. We let the server know and she sent it back and then the manager stopped by and asked if we wanted a new piece cooked. We somewhat reluctantly indicated that we did and we got a fresh new plate however it had the same issue. I can only make an assumption that the sea bass must be frozen. I feel like if both dishes had been cooked properly, they would have made for a pretty solid meal. The overall flavors were on point. The manager Manasseh was very apologetic and accommodating. She continued to make attempts to ensure our experience lived up to expectations. While we were a bit disappointed with the food, the manager and the beautiful view of the city will be enough for us to give it a second chance. read more

Stumbled upon Topside, not sure I remember how. Either way, made my way there for breakfast. Parking was easy, scored a spot out front. Mainly street parking so that's something to consider when being timely for a reservation. Take the elevator to the top and enter, Topside. The main dining room is big with lots of seating options. To the far right is a game section. The view is great no matter where you're seated. Waitstaff was very friendly and quick. Orders took a bit long to come out and the place wasn't extremely busy. But, for the portion size I'll give them the delay. Food was good, I'd try lunch. I ordered an omelette; which was great. The garlic butter with black salt was delicious. No biggie. Ordered an old fashioned ($15) that was truly all a big block of ice - very little fashion. My daughter ordered fire over the mountain. Also too much ice not enough fire. No biggie. Ordered two burgers, squid ink pasta, and seafood rice. Pasta and rice were good. Portions are delicate. For $35 a piece, I was expecting a good portion. Not a delicate one. One of the burgers had a hair in it. Long and curly. We all have straight black hair. Ewww. They gave us fries while they made a fresh burger. The other person who had a burger too could not finish eating his. I can't blame him. The kicker is they did not comp the burger with the hair. That's a biggie. Our waitress was amazing. She bought us a couple of desserts the panacotta and napoleon on the house. No biggie. I've been in customer service all my life and I expected the very long hair in my guest's burger to be comped. It is too dark in there. Ambiance is one thing. When you cannot see the food in front of you that is different. Maybe they do that so you cannot see exactly what you are eating. That's a biggie. Food was tasty - a little higher than some of the competition close by but the taste was good so not complaining and I knew prices going in. Hosts were very nice and welcoming, as was the wait staff, overall. The waitress we had was efficient. Cons: street parking can be tough during prime time but like I said, ride share is an option. Conversation is a bit tough when it's packed because it gets rather noisy. Some cocktails were a bit on the weak side and could use a little punching up for the price but the taste was decent. Would definitely return but maybe on a less busy day and stick to liquor pours and not as many mixed drinks. read more

Honestly when I booked my reservation here I was expecting the food wouldn't be that good, but I was wrong! I thought it would be expensive and that we'd mostly be paying for the view. But everything we had was delicious! My favorite was the squid ink scallop pasta, probably some of the best squid ink pasta I've ever had. The crispy garlic bits brought it over the top. We also got the ricotta appetizer because our hostess talked it up even though it seemed pricey ($16 for ricotta and bread!). But it was honestly so fresh, it was the best ricotta I've ever tasted and the bread was really good too. Worth it for a special occasion. My boyfriend was OBSESSED with the short rib. And the panna cotta dessert? Amazing, I loved how tart it was with the sauce. Our server was really knowledgeable about all the dishes and cocktails. Let's start off with the fact that this restaurant has the most beautiful view. Regardless of how the food was going to taste and how satisfying the drinks were going to be, this location takes the cake for the view alone. Thorough use of the air conditioning, which is ideal for escaping some Baltimore humid heat, but also maybe bring a light jacket just in case once you're acclimated. The host was friendly and gave us an option of the bar or a table. I was just coming in for a drink so I took bar seat. The tunes were mellow and quiet enough that we could carry on conversation without having to shout. Quickly greeted by the bartender, I ordered a flight for a rounded pre dinner experience. I got a local sour, Irish red, lager and stout, which I drank in that order. Really great first trip to Topside and will update soon, as I will definitely be back for dinner soon! read more

I've been to Topside a couple of times (can't believe I haven't written a review before). If you are visiting Baltimore, it's a must see place. Such a good view of the city with a lot to offer. I do feel that the food is a modern twist to a lot classics (wings, crab cakes, etc. ), but if that's your thing, definitely the spot for you. Drinks I absolutely LOVE the bartenders here. I've been hella indecisive about drinks and to be able to say random things like "I like rum but I don't like Banana" ... and have them create something that fits my (simple) pallets is good. Food Fries are good. I did try duck (for the first time) and boooooy them joints were good. Try 'em, you won't be disappointed. Vibes I am big on the vibe. The music adds a good background vibe. I've found the mix to add to the chill vibe. Depending on the time of day, it can get noisy though. Overall, I love Topside. The view is amazing. Overall we had a lovely time at Topside, amazing views, delicious food! If you are visiting Baltimore and are looking for a fun night with friends with the best views Baltimore has to offer, then look no further that Topside. We ordered a ton of delicious dishes including the Gochujang Wings which were INSANE! If you like a tangy, spicy sauce and crispy wings then order this bad boy. Also the Indian Butter Cauliflower ate like a meal, and I am no vegan/vegetarian but it was substantive and deliciously wholesome. The spicy shrimp was also banging, though it did have me reaching for my napkin to dab my spice sweat. I only awarded four stars because the service was not swift or very friendly. I don't blame them for being unhappy about waiting on typically tipsy and loud talking people, but sadly the service industry's slogan is grin and bear it. I've been to Topside twice and both visits were just "ok" for me. It was nice that we didn't have to wait to be seated on either Saturday night that we were there, despite both evenings having been pretty crowded. The hostesses were nice and friendly as were our servers. There's a really open layout with super high ceilings and the most amaaaaazing views of the cityscape you could ever imagine. The views alone were enough to lure us back for a second visit, but the food and drinks would not bring me back. I tried their oysters on the half shell, which I could not finish due to excessive cracked shell fragments and grit in them. The steamed mussels we tried were tiny and quite bland and watery. We also tried baked oysters that we hoped may be reminiscent of New Orleans, that were instead more reminiscent of the back of a freezer... perhaps in someone's home that had a bachelorette party in New Orleans or something. When I am leery about trying the food at a new restaurant, I like to order wings or chicken strips and fries since I have this theory that it should be nearly impossible to fumble wings.... chicken strips... or fries. Topside's wings were served room temperature and over cooked. I was flabbergasted wondering how something being served so under proper temperature could be so tough, chewy, and over cooked at the same time. Were the wings cooked much earlier in the day and then left under a heat lamp that dried them out? Were these chicken jerky wings? I don't know and I digress... I tried a couple of Topside's signature cocktails that I don't remember because they weren't super memorable aside from leaving me with a mental note that I would probably not be returning there for the signature cocktails. I thoroughly enjoyed the awesome views and cute little lounge and game area at Topside, so I would stop in again for a quick meet up or seeking good times with a group of friends, but not seeking dinner or lunch. read more
