Spider in noodles and bean sprouts
Cassandra V.

I hate giving bad reviews but I can't recommend this restaurant. I was in the area and have heard good things so decided to give it a shot. Both of our dishes were extremely bland including the pho (the pho stock at target has more flavor). There was a SPIDER in the noodles which were very dry and no hoisin came with it. My grilled chicken was flavorless and very dry. It didn't taste like Vietnamese style grilled chicken at all. It tasted more like those pre made grilled chicken strips that you get at the grocery store. If you are within a reasonable commute to Parsippany, there are wonderful Vietnamese options. I had high expectations for Topo but unfortunately I won't be returning.

Nice fresh interior

TOPO serves up delicious Vietnamese food in a relaxing and inviting setting. I have been here a few times for lunch, and always had a good experience. The times I have been, the restaurant has had steady business but was not overcrowded. Service was friendly, prompt, and efficient, and we got our food quickly. My go to meal is the summer rolls and the ginger/tofu/avocado vegan lunch special. My friend usually gets the calamari. We've also purchased bánh mì which is fresh and tasty with nice daikon and carrot topping. There is a water tap coming out of the wall so we can fill our own water glasses. I've never seen that anywhere else before and I like it. I park on the street and pay at the meter, $.25 per hour. Quarters only. TOPO is very easy to find in downtown Hackettstown. The name stands for "the old post office" because that is what the building originally was.

Tofu/ avocado "summer roll"

When you look forward to something as simple as summer rolls and it's turns out... now you hate them I was VERY disappointed. Since I saw this place I have always been tempted to go try it now I never will go again. I don't recommend it at all. I got a Banh Mi and it was like a nasty sandwich. Very unimpressive

Beef Pho with Crab Rangoon

Nice family owned business with cozy ambiance. They have outdoor tables setup, ready for the nice summer weather. Inside, I noticed that each table has a unique tap water spigot mounted on the wall next to each table. That is something I haven't seen anywhere! It guarantees you will never run out of drink/water. They have huge menu, a lot of options for you to choose. Anyway, for the apps we had spring rolls combo, and crab rangoon which was amazing! For the entrees we had beef pho, laksa (yellow curry soup), bakmie ayam, fried flat noodle, and shaking beef. The shaking beef is definitely a must try! It's tender and tasty! We had taro bobba tea and Vietnamese coffee which could be a little stronger but still good. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Service was amazing, they're friendly and very attentive, checking in how we're doing. Overall everything is good! It's worth the drive! If you haven't, definitely give them a try!

So much for requesting NO JALAPEÑO! If you have food issues or allergies please use caution!

Wow I am so sorry to have to update my review this way but this has become a bad situation. We specifically asked for NO JALEPENOS and what did we find when we got home?? A great big fat slice of jalepeno in the midst of our pho add ins. Thankfully we didn't start dumping the addins into the pho without looking! Sadly, this isn't the first time this has happened. Topo really needs to be much more careful or someone's going to have problems when they get something they cannot have due to allergies or intolerance.

honeydew bubble tea

Topo has a cute, clean interior that feels homey and warm on a cold winter day. However, the food did not amaze me as I expected it would. For my drinks, I ordered the honeydew milk tea. It tasted very watered down with a slight honeydew flavor. There were not many tapioca pearls as I wanted there to be and the drink was unusually warm. The tapioca pearls sort of dissolved in your mouth as it didn't have that chewy texture you would expect it to have. Next I ordered the shrimp summer rolls. These were absolutely horrible, at least for the way mine was prepared. As you can see in the picture, the summer roll was filled with all veggies and a tiny little shrimp about 3 inches long. The peanut sauce was the only thing that made it better, but they didn't even fill up the sauce bowl halfway, as if the sauce could only be used for one summer roll serving. As my entree, I ordered the pho lemongrass chicken dumpling. This was the only thing I enjoyed. The broth was nice and flavorful. The dumplings were soft and there were plenty of rice noodles to enjoy. Service wise it was okay, besides a waiter bringing us the wrong order that was made for another table. The waiter felt so bad about it, but I understand it was a careless mistake. Our waiter was kind and accommodated us pretty well. Overall, I would not come back, but it was a nice experience.

duck spring rolls

Cute place with delicious Vietnamese food. They have some items that you don't always see like duck or lamb spring rolls, brunch foods, Vietnamese take on burgers. The vegetarian summer rolls were good, grilled pork prepared perfect no over charred pieces and they even slice it to no knife needed size, duck spring rolls fried just right. Plenty of street parking nearby and has outdoor seating to enjoy a nice day out. Service is quick and friendly. Overall a wonderful experience from service to flavors.

Shaking Beef Lunch

The food here was delectable. Every dish I've tasted had so much flavor and textures. The service here was also amazing. Very nice and friendly environment. The food also came out very quick.

Two of us were in western NJ for business and driving through Hackettstown around lunch time. Picked Topo on a lark. At first around 12:30 we were only ones in there. Ok, torrential rain. We do not know much about Vietnamese food. Now what we know is Topo has good food. Server very nice. I had to have green tea latte with the tapioca chewy balls. Dessert! We shared chicken dumplings as an app. Thick yellow dipping sauce so good. He had his first Pho bowl ever with Vietnamese meatballs. That was five star. Go for it. Noodles so thin and wonderful. Meatballs chewy and tasty. I had appetizer sampler as lunch with spring rolls, fried rolls, Vietnamese meatloaf slices, and more dumplings. Very good. That came with more of the great yellow sauce plus a delicious hoisin one with peanuts. My hunch is this place is really a fusion one more than pure Vietnamese. But that Pho. Get that Pho. We enjoyed our lunch. A lot.

PHO Restaurant with good food! Worth the money and decent prices! The boba taste good! We ordered their yellow soup pho and it was the best! We tried mango boba too and it was good!

Atmosphere: 3 I think there could be more effort put into creating a more appropriate atmosphere of a Vietnamese restaurant because one would think it's an American diner. There are two art pieces on the wall that look more like Thai than Vietnamese. The items on the menu were a mix of American fused Asian (wouldn't even say it's Vietnamese) food. There are also menu items that are Malaysian and Chinese. It seems like the owners are a bit confused... I was glad they had the Vietnamese crepe though and a nice selection of Pho including the one with tripe and tendons. I appreciated the hot sauce on the table too. It's reminiscent of Vietnamese pho joints in the city and in Asia. Portions: 3 There is a lot less beef, tendon, and tripe than noodles so the balance per bite is a bit off. There is also way too little basil provided. The summer rolls are also jam packed with noodles and not much anything else. There's one small shrimp in each summer roll. Flavors: 2 I grew up with Vietnamese food in my family and pho is my soul food since I've had it since I was little. In one taste I can identify if certain ingredients are missing. I feel that the broth has most of the ingredients in it but it's way over powered by the sweetness. The bubble tea was too sweet too. I couldn't drink it and had to take it home to dilute it with more tea and milk. The sauce for the summer rolls should be peanut sauce and not plain hoisin sauce. I also didn't appreciate the avocado and asparagus ingredients which are clearly western and not Vietnamese. Vietnamese food is generally quite healthy so additions of western healthy ingredients isn't really necessary. The actual Vietnamese menu items are buried in the abundance of fusion items. I think it would be great if they skimmed down the menu to authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and mastered those items, it would be a great way to expose the community to the Vietnamese ingredients and flavors. Overall, I think it's a good attempt but the restaurant has some growing to do before they can claim they are authentic.

German Cockroach in my dish...not kidding.

Ordered the Fried Egg Noodle and some other things (order number 577976923 ) and found a cockroach (dead) buried in the noodles. Called the restaurant to complain and immediately threw out the entire order - how can I trust any of it? Really liked this place and have eaten there before. Too bad.

water tap and a bell ! very convenient.

I absolutely love this restaurant! They have a bigger menu and more offerings than most Vietnamese/ SE-Asian restaurants. I ordered the app sampler, pho and laksa to take home. Beef soup could stand on its own without any greasiness and had very generous servings of sliced beef and tendons ! I absolutely loved the egg loaf in the sampler and will definitely be making some at home. Chicken Laksa was wonderfully fragrant and everything was delicious all around. I am swooning at the bell and water tap thats located at the end of every table. The convenience and the great quality of the food will definitely get me to come back. looking forward to my next visit-

The meat was the correct type of meat for the dish, beef shank, and every piece was wonderfully tender. The noodles tasted like homemade noodles and had a really nice bite to it. It wasn't too firm or soggy. The broth was flavorful and complex with chili oil for added kick and the added fresh scallions and cilantro really brightened up the dish. The dish by itself was 5/5 stars. I'm surprised I hadn't tried Let's Noodle sooner since it's across the street from one my favorite ramen spots in the area, Ju Ichi. Let's Noodle optimizes a "Hole in the Wall" restaurant, very unassuming but it delivers authentic Asian flavors and delicious noodles. Although I didn't try it, Let's Noodle lets you craft your own noodles with choices of sauce and protein. The interior had very limited seating but a cute bar style table looking out toward the street. The windows where I sat had a nice large ledge which was super convenient to put my bag so it's out of the way and off the ground. The food came out pretty fast despite there only being 3 staff members that I saw - a front desk cashier who doubled as a server to deliver food when ready and 2 kitchen staff. The price was a little above average for what you'd expect for a non-full service restaurant, but it wasn't horrible either considering how close it is to the Green in Morristown. The pork buns I had were tasty but the pork mince inside was minced a bit too finely for my taste. It almost resembled a paste when it should have had a more structured and juicy bite. It was still enjoyable but it wasn't the star of the show. After I finished dinner, I decided to also try the Dan Dan Noodles to go. The takeout container nicely separated the noodles from the sauce so the noodles wouldn't get soggy when I got home. The sauce was flavorful and the noodles had great texture but once again, the pork was so finely minced, like the pork buns, that it really detracted from the quality of what was otherwise a fantastic dish. Overall, my experience was great. I love authentic hole in the wall spots and I am excited to go back to try the other dishes I missed!

Decided to try an order for delivery via GrubHub and compare dishes with two separate noodles, based on what they recommended for each best for delivery: Beijing Bolo with a fermented black bean ground pork sauce, a.k.a. Zhejiang Mien, including Size #2 pressed noodles thick like udon, scallions, and cilantro, plus Cold Sesame Noodles utilizing handpulled lagman. Both dishes I ordered medium spicy. The Beijing Bolo came in a bowl, while I needed to plate the Cold Sesame dish. Both were flavorful with tender noodles. Next time, more likely to go in person over delivery, and explore other dishes on their menu. It's a great option particularly for this neighborhood! Definitely would recommend trying out The Handmade Noodle!

I placed a pickup order, but when I got there my food hadn't even been started yet, so I ended up standing around for another 10-15 minutes. That part was annoying. I started with the cumin dry rub wings. They were just okay. Very tangy, not very spicy, and honestly a bit over cooked/fried. I'd skip the wings. The steamed chicken and shiitake dumplings were the highlight. They had peas inside and were actually really good. Super flavorful and easily my favorite item. I also ordered the cumin soup with hand-pulled noodles, medium spicy. Everyone warned that spiciness was intense, so I played it safe, but medium ended up being pretty underwhelming for me. The soup was also very oily. The minced pork was fine, nothing special, and while I liked the noodles, they could've been cooked a bit longer. Overall... meh. :/
