Don't waste your money food has no flavor, everything we ordered was just bland not good. Threw most of it in the garbage.

We thought that we would try a new place and it did not work out. Very disappointing! I've never thrown Chinese food in the garbage before :( On a positive note, owner did refund our money for items that we did not order but were charged for. Food was not great undercooked and dry! My original 2 star review is changing. More like 3 1/2 this time around. Orderes take out today and everything was very very good, and cooked nicely (minus the broccoli in the General Tso's chicken. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly. The bean curd and broccoli dish was also excellent, however perhaps order this dish medium spice, to ensure a higher level of spice and curd satisfaction. I've been craving good Chinese food and have been trying various ones in the area looking for our new favorite. This is definitely not it. We ordered the things we usually get from a Chinese restaurant as a fair comparison and each one was the worst we have ever had. The egg rolls and dumplings were almost all chewy thick shell with little filling. The lo mein had no flavor, the General Tao's and beef and broccoli were minimally but dismally flavored. Wanted some Chinese food during my lunch break today and came across China House. It had good reviews so decided to give it a try. My parents own a take out place as well so I'm always pretty picky about where I go for take out. This place was great though, definitely would be back more often if it was closer to the office. I ordered a sesame chicken lunch platter. There were a few options. The first one for $5.45 comes with soup or soda. The second option for $6.10 comes with your pick of chicken fingers/boneless ribs/fried shrimp/fried wonton. This is the only place I know of that does this so definitely a selling point for me. Plus the prices are very reasonable for either option. I went with just a soda for today and my total came out to $5.83. The food was pretty good, fried rice was a little bland but that's okay. The people working were really friendly as well which is always a plus. Overall, really reasonable prices for some good food. Will definitely be back. read more

The cold sesame noodles were unreal. For fast food chinese this is the best you can get. I had it as a quick meal one night and expected average but what I got as delicious and had me craving their food everyday after. The sauce on the noodles was a real sesame sauce and not just peanut butter with sesame seeds. Would 10/10 recommend everyday it is absolutely worth any drive and it is so delicious. read more

***2.5 stars*** China House used to be our go-to Chinese takeout restaurant when The Man and I lived on 206. The food was dependably tasty and ready quickly. After looking into options when we moved back to Morris County, we figured we'd give them a shot. We are admittedly spoiled when it comes to Chinese food. Our old town had several awesome places within a 5-10 minute drive. However, we're pretty relaxed when it comes to our expectations on takeout orders and don't usually have many complaints. Unfortunately, even with our lowered expectations, China House fell just a bit flat. I stopped in on a Friday night on my way home from an event and figured the place would be pretty quiet. I was right - one person came to pick up an order and one phone call came in during the 20 minutes or so I waited for our order to be ready. The Man ordered his usual chicken with broccoli while I opted for shrimp lo mein. Considering how quiet the restaurant was, I was surprised it took so long to get our orders up. The employees were very nice, but that really didn't really do much to help my rumbly tummy. I drove the 15 minutes home with dinner and just found myself very underwhelmed. The Man, who rarely ever stops to take a breath while he's eating chicken with broccoli, didn't eat with his usual gusto. When pressed, he said that the food wasn't bad, per se, but it also wasn't exceptionally good either. I felt the same way about my lo mein. There just wasn't a lot of flavor. The portion sizes were what you'd expect of a Chinese takeout place, so we have no complaints about that other than the fact that neither of us wanted to finish what we had ordered. The prices were very reasonable, so that's a plus. Hopefully this was just an off night and the food will be better when we order again, but it looks like the only Chinese food we'll be eating at home for a while will be what I cook myself. read more

Went here for lunch today, their Lunch special is such an amazing deal! $6.47 for chicken with mixed veges, fried rice and a soda! They don't skimp on portion size either which is a big plus. The food here is awesome, the fried rice lacking a little flavor but if you add a little more soy sauce to it, it totally fixes that. We tried again... it was good. Your usual Chinese fare that is similar to the rest of the Chinese restaurants in the area.

We lived in the Flanders area for about two years and finally found and tried this place, it was the only place we went to after that. It was our "go-to" Chinese food, and still is even though we live over an hour away now. The owners are extremely friendly and nice. With a certain order total they give an order of free chicken strips or wontons, depending on the day I suppose. I enjoy the singapore mei fun and it is enough for dinner and lunch the next day. We order that and extra spicy General Tso's on a regular basis (husband likes it extra spicy). The broad noodles are a new favorite of his as well. This place does not dissapoint and if there is something wrong I'm sure they will fix it immediately, we've never had a problem with anything. We sure miss our Friday night take out with these guys. read more

As many reviewers say, this is your go-to Chinese place in the Flanders area, especially since Mandarin Village's tragic closing :-( General impressions: Always very quick service, orders are never messed up, and the people who work there are friendly. None of the abruptness that characterizes a lot of Chinese restaurants, which is probably only a cultural thing, so no big deal. The place is clean, and the food is always fresh. And their prices are absolutely killer. IMO, their strong suit is dumpling-related dishes. For an americanized Chinese joint, complete with horizontal picture menu above the counter, their dumplings are about as authentic and delicious as you will find. Do yourself a favor and get their dim sum appetizer. Yes, yes, it's just a certain kind of dim sum (a little meatball thing stuffed in a yummy dumpling wrapper with sauce and green onions), but who really cares, it is goooood. Speaking of appetizers, I would not recommend their crab rangoon. Yes, the portion size is immense (I got nine pieces for under $5), but they were soggy triangles filled with creamy mush that tasted only faintly of crab. AND NO SWEET NUCLEAR RED SAUCE!--although this may have been a mistake on their part (benefit of the doubt). Instead, I got a pretty traditional savory dipping sauce (soy, rice vinegar, etc). I've also had lo-mein, house special to be precise (why would you opt for any other kind?). Very good, and MUCH LESS sauce than your typical Chinese places, which I consider a plus. The other dish I've had from there is their Mongolian beef. I have to say, I've never seen it done their way before, and I wasn't a huge fan of it. Over 50% of the dish consists of onions and bamboo shoots (I think that's what that was), and the sauce was akin to beef with broccoli sauce. Not bad, but not what I expect to get when I order Mongolian beef. Google some pictures--it should be almost entirely beef. I'll pay more! So yes, I would recommend this place. You should go there several times a month if you live in Flanders and like Chinese food. It's not outstanding, but it's way better than so many other places like it. If your only criteria for food is large portions then this is the place for you. The Hunan Beef only had 3 evident flavors. Cornstarch, soy sauce, and crappy 5 spice. The mei fun was only seasoned with salt. The crab rangoons had curdled cream cheese in them and they were sweet. The dumplings had that same odd 5 spice taste. The dipping sauce was, yup, you guessed it. Just soy sauce again. This may be the worst Chinese Food I have ever had. My 90 year old Hungarian Grandmother could make better Chinese food. Go to Szechuan Royale if you have any taste buds. What a waste of money!!!!!! read more

I'm actually sad to be writing a bad review of China House. The staff is very sweet and I've always really enjoyed the food...even moreso than Mandarin Village across the highway. That being said, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that the last time I ate there I got food poisoning. I had the beef and broccoli and was VIOLENTLY ill all night and into the next day. Our go-to Chinese food takeout in the area. The quality is good and the ingredients seem more fresh than your average Chinese food. I love the general tso's chicken with white meat. Yummm! I absolutely love this restaurant. The take out food is authentic and the best in the area. The prices are low and the kitchen is fast. I usually walk in and order take out. A few dishes and apps and it is done in about 20 minutes. They are friendly and if you spend enough they'll give you an order of fried wontons on the house. Now onto the food. It's tasty and authentic. We've had the Pork and vegetable dumplings and they are awesome. I also tried the scallion pancakes and they were great - others make them a tad greasy but these are perfect . We also love the Szechuan beef or chicken . Very flavorful- I like mine extra spicy but the standard spice level is tasty. I've also had the Singapore mai fun which is another go to meal. I've enjoyed the curry chicken and some other standard Chinese dishes. We look forward to our Thursday take outs. I'm also planning on trying as many dishes as possible . So should you. The only caution is that this is straight take out. There are a few seats and tables but that's pretty much for hanging out waiting for your order. read more

Since China House had a change of ownership the quality and service has dropped. When getting takeout orders are always wrong with no apologies. Food is swamped in sauce. All sizes have been reduced over the past year and now there is a 4% surcharge when paying by credit card. Wish there was anther place in town. Living in Flanders all of my life, this has been our reliable Chinese restaurant for years and years. Whether it's a big meal with family or combination plate orders with friends, the quality has always been good and plentiful. The staff (knowing our faces as beasts when it comes to binging on food) are so friendly and courteous. No matter how large our order is, the waiting time is always quick and reasonable, even during a dinner rush. The prices also reflect the quality. Hard to recommend a particular dish, as they're all good. General Tso's chicken, shanghai noodles, even the vegetable lo mein is good. The steamed dumplings and dipping sauce still makes my mouth water. Not only did my son have food poisoning after a meal several months ago, but this week my husband has been violently ill after eating boneless ribs. He's been out of work for three days and saw his doctor today. I think if we really want Chinese, we will go to the one in Chester or drive to Hunan in Morris Plains. My family and I have been eating here for 10 years. New owners recently took over and the food is still good. I usually get the Hunan Chicken combination plate, which is very good. I like their boneless ribs too. The combination plate portions are good size and prices are same as other places near by. Christmas Day I ordered bar-b-q bones spare ribs, the meat was tuff had to eat the fried rice tasteless n like mush. I tried something different last night same thing will not go back. Whenever I go to my parents and we order Chinese food, it's from China House. The food is good for a small take out restaurant and the prices are reasonable. I really like their wonton soup and chicken dishes such as moo goo gai pan, chicken and broccoli, chicken with mixed veggies, chicken with garlic sauce (hey, I like chicken!). The lo mein is usually mushy, so if you order it, ask for it well done. Bonus: you get free chicken fingers with order over a certain price. There really isn't any seating here, but if you really HAD to, you could eat here. read more
