Second time we bought from them in past few months. First time was nothing special, but not atrocious. This was close. My wife liked the fried dumplings, as she did the previous time. The Hot and Sour Soup lacked enough rice wine vinegar, as many out here lack. But it was also unimaginative. Almost no pork strips, which is standard. But the biggest clunker was the twice cooked pork. Have had this many times from many restaurants. This was by far the worst we ever had. Pork was tasteless, sauce tasted like mildly flavored water with soy coloring. Didn't taste like it was cooked in a wok. Did not even taste like it was fried. More like steamed and devoid of all taste. Will never order from them again. read more

This place is weird. Walked in and one of the men in the place started yelling at a teenager. Who then had to begrudgingly take our order. I ordered the spicy chicken with cashews and received peanuts. Food is just ok. Not worth the hostile environment. There is seating for maybe 6 people in the small restaurant. Located in an almost hidden alleyway area area next to the Nitroflex Gym. Probably the worst take out Chinese I've ever had. Dishes that are normally wok fried dry and spicy were all bland, watery, overly sauced with tons of sugar and corn starch. Maybe they must love high fructose corn syrup in Chester? The prices are reasonable, they offer all your favorite Chinese classics that remind you of growing up in NJ. Food was fresh and less greasy than other places I've tried. If you're looking for decent Chinese food in the Chester area, Ho Ho Kitchen fits the bill. I've been spoiled from living in a small town with not one, not two, but three really great Chinese restaurants (and dozens more in the immediate area). It took a while for me to make my way over to Ho Ho Kitchen because I didn't want the one and only Chinese restaurant in town to be a huge disappointment. After all, my mortgage means I'm sort of stuck here for a while and I don't want anything to make our decision to settle in Chester to lose its luster! I called in an order for pickup relatively late on a Friday night when I just couldn't be bothered to cook. The Man got his usual chicken with broccoli and egg drop soup while I took a chance on shrimp in garlic sauce. The restaurant was a little hard to find being on the back side of the Chester Springs shopping center, but I was able to get there and find a close parking space. They were just finishing my order. The restaurant is very small, but the entire kitchen as visible from the counter. It was dimly lit, but it looked relatively clean. I paid for my order and practically flew home so I could get some food in me. Everything was nicely packed and still hot when we opened our bag. The one thing I noticed was the sauces were thinner than what we were used to. That caused a little bit of dribbling when we went to load our plates - not a huge deal. The soup had a nice flavor, and The Man enjoyed it very much. He also ate his chicken with broccoli pretty quickly and said it was good. My shrimp in garlic sauce was quite nice - the shrimp were large but not enormous and there was a good variety of vegetables. The sauce was a bit on the oily side and didn't have quite the heat that I'm used to, but it was still quite good. Since I ended up eating almost the entire quart of rice that came with our order, I only got through half of my entree that night, but did finish it off a few days later. As with any good Chinese food, it was still tasty! My overall impression of Ho Ho Kitchen is that they do try to put a quality product out there, but they fall short of some of the better restaurants in other nearby areas. Still, I have no problems with ordering from them again the next time I'm in the mood for standard Chinese takeout. read more

I've grown up eating Ho Ho Kitchen Chinese food. I always get take out as they don't have much space for eating in. They are fast and the food is really good. They do a ton of take out and almost everyone in Chester goes there. I usually only get take out for 1 or 2 people but I have seen people walk outta there with over $100 in food, feeding a large group. The owners have always been super friendly. Now I just call and the wife picks up the phone and says "garlic chicken extra spicy". Yeah she recognizes my number and knows my order which is super funny but good. Got a coupon in the mail do I thought I would try it. Went last night with my daughter and it was shockingly bad. Ordered scallion pancake, general tso chicken, chicken wings, veg fried rice, and spring rolls. No one else was there with me and it took like 20 minutes so I thought it was fresh. It wasn't. Everything tasted warmed over, the scallion pancake tasted like it was made at least 6 hours earlier. The chicken was re-fried. The general tso hat too much breading and sauce, the broccoli was over cooked. The Veg rice had pork in it and they forgot to make the spring rolls. When it came time to pay, I gave them the coupon for 10% off and she told me She took it off but she was lying. I asked for the receipt because I did the math in my head and it was off. Not only did she not take the 10% off, but she charged me for the rolls I never got. She re-rang it with out the rolls and it was somehow more expensive. She did it a third time while I was watching and it was right then. We live 5 minutes away, the food was gross (as discussed). They got 2 stars because I am feeling generous. I'm never going there again. I should have driven 10 minutes in the opposite direction to go to blossom Asian bistro. Not good. It benefits from being the only Chinese in that area. Yuck. read more

This place has been the loyal supplier of Chinese food for my family for the past 15 years. Located in the back of a hole-in-the-wall strip mall, take-out only (there's room for 4-6 people to sit, as I recall). All food is cooked to order (sauce appears prepared ahead of time; everything is cooked on demand, only)... food has always been fresh. Owner/owner's family has always been very generous with proportions. I'm personally of the opinion that the chicken dishes are superior to the beef dishes (though my brother will disagree). Highest recommendations are for garlic chicken, chicken and cashew, hot and spicy beef, sesame chicken, and vegetable lo mein. General Tso's is generic but not bad. Sesame Chicken and Orange Chicken/Beef are apparently of very similar stock on occasion, but are more often than not quite strong. This is my preferred Chinese food source in the Long Valley/Chester/Flanders area. read more

When I'm sick I always crave their chicken rice soup and it's been a life saver for years during winter colds. Probably more of a 2.5 star rating, but I've had good meals in the past. I went there last night for an order of Chicken and Broccoli, Egg Drop Soup and Moo Shu Chicken. The Egg Drop soup was the only entrée that was halfway decent. The chicken and broccoli was tasteless and the chicken was stringy. The Moo Shu Chicken had pieces of pork in it, so basically unedible for me. This has happened before, so i'll give it another chance, but that might it for me. read more

Primarily takeout, the portions are generous and the food, which is prepared right in front of you, is very well done. Consider each order large enough to serve two with the very generous servings. Some of the Pu-pu platter was fair, but none of it very appetizing. No containers of good hot mustard or duck sauce- just the lame plastic packets which you must take off the counter. The chicken and other meat entrees were average but the fried rice was unsatisfying. No little extras that other Chinese restaurants give. Basically, they run lean, cheap and somewhat dirty in there and that will keep me from returning. They may excel with some of their dishes. My company just moved to Chester, so we have been scoping out places for lunch and went with Ho Ho Kitchen today. Big mistake. We placed the everyday office people order of various lunch specials, soups, etc. When the delivery lady showed up we look in the bag, and no sweet and sour sauce for the sweet and sour chicken (of course this is mine...sigh). She just shrugs and says she didn't bring it. After fighting with her, she reluctantly agrees to come back (how generous). There werent enough utensils for the amount of food, and not a single soy sauce, duck sauce, or fortune cookie to be found!! Isn't that Chinese takeout 101? We call, and the owner yells at my co-worker and says he is very busy and doesnt know when they can come back. We insist again that they at least bring the missing sauce. He actually hung up on her! The lady did return 10 mins later with my sauce, still no other condiments. I hope this isnt the only Chinese around here. read more

I think people often get this confused with the Ho Ho Kitchen in Califon, which apparently is not good. Ho Ho Kitchen in Chester (this one) is a staple in our family. Although I am generally a supporter of un-pretty, hole-in-the-wall places, I am not a big fan of this one. The food is okay, not bad but not great, and a bit too much on the greasy side. Their timing is terrible, though. There is no point in calling ahead, because in my experience, they don't start cooking it until you arrive anyway. The last time this happened to me, I called 15 minutes in advance to pick up on the way to getting my kid from school. When I got there, they hadn't even begun making it, and in fact didn't start until I had been standing there waiting for a good 5-10 minutes. They seemed to be putting together a fairly large order, assembly-line style, and mine was eventually worked into it. I don't know, I just don't get a good vibe there. Everyone seems so unhappy as well. Fabulous food or fast food or pleasant vibe and we'd be okay, but they are all lacking here, IMO. read more
