We kicked things off with a couple of iced teas and split a sake.Then came the items that always draw me back: the Kickin-Mame and the seaweed salad. Seriously, everyone loves these! For our main rolls, we went with the Vegas Roll and the Double Shrimp Crunchy Roll--both were wonderful, featuring fresh ingredients and perfect preparation. The 6 oz of salmon came with steamed rice and grilled veggies. The salmon was overly cooked. The grilled veggies were not that flavorful. I loved the shrimp sushi roll that my daughter ordered; she requested a heavy dose of tempura flakes which made it even better. The ginger tea was a bit weak though, but the mango & champagne cocktail was refreshing and so yummy (though quite potent for me)! I liked the crab puffs but felt there was too much cream cheese filling in the lightly crisped, thin wanton casing. There are only three to a serving so I didn't overindulge but shared the puffs with the table. The fried calamari was way too salty so be warned. Go during Happy Hour to enjoy 1/2 off on a selection of highly favored dishes. Yelp reviews tout the Happy Hour here as a fun and tasty time. Laid back ambience (kinda dark like a dungeon) but what I wanted is quality sushi. Disappointed for not the grade A sushi that I was used to at the Richmond location. Could be because of the pandemic affecting everyone so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Wasabi taste old. Pink ginger is a no to me. So I'm giving an extra star because I've had a couple of great experiences here in person a few months back. However tonight I thought I would surprise my girl with some of her favorite dishes and had the whole night ruined by literally some of the worst food and delivery I've ever experienced. I know some people reading this will say the fault is on Doordash and I agree. However on top of all my food being shaken around in the boxes the food preparation was nothing close to being on point. I spent $120 on trash. Literally. The only thing not ruined was the gyoza, egg rolls and crab puffs. Everything else that was on average $16 was worthless. I will never be returning or ordering from here ever again which is sad because this was one of my top 3 favorite sushi houses. Why will I never return? Because I looked like a dumbazz in front of my girl trying to make a night special when she wasn't feeling good. I won't risk that again. Genji's budget sushi was 100 times better than this. Chefs rushing an order to go home and a Doordash delivery driver who did not care at all is bad for business. If I were the owner I would rethink everything about how to avoid this from happening to other people before people just stop coming. read more

I love sushi and Top Sushi does it well. I've been to Multiple locations in the Houston area and the quality is similar but not the same. The first - in The Woodlands area - was exceptional - probably six stars. The next, near the Galleria, was good. It appears the sushi chef (whoever had the sharp knife on the fish) was new. Fish was great and fresh, but cuts were clunky and thick. Never seen that in a sushi place before - and I love sushi - said that already. That aside - which does have an effect but not on the quality of the fish, which again was great - we like Top Sushi. They staff has always been first rate. Kind and attentive and knowledgeable. The decor and ambience is also very modern Japanese, just lovely. Some money goes into the design of the place, from bar to ceiling to quality tables and comfortable chairs. Don't underestimate the money spent on chairs!! That's where your tush will hang out while your stuff your face. Overall, I'd love to give it more stars but the sushi chef is really important. They have reserved signs on every other table to ensure 6 feet distance between customers and the place was pretty much spotless. All staff members were wearing masks as well!
