During my recent visit, I was struck by how much North Mass Boulder is a community space. It's not just a rock climbing or yoga gym but a gathering space. And Top Out Cafe is a big part of that. I came to the cafe for a co-working afternoon with some of my colleagues. We were able to grab a small conference room and work while we enjoyed our drinks and lunch. I started with a dirty chai, which hit the spot. And then I got the Chicken Pesto Panini, made with tomato, spinach, avocado and mozzarella cheese, served on rosemary focaccia bread. I got it without the onion. This sandwich was large, and I can see it being a great compliment to a workout. The cafe area seemed packed on the Friday afternoon I visited. It looks like a working space as much as a gym cafe. The service here was bright and friendly. And if I ever go back, I'm definitely going to try some of their smoothie bowls or salads. Top Out Café is one of my favorite spots in the city -- hands down. Their prices are great, the food is always fresh and actually tastes like real ingredients (because it is!), and the coffee is chef's kiss. I love that I can grab something quick that still feels healthy and delicious. And if you're here later in the day, they have some seriously good drink options too -- wine, beer,... it's a fun little surprise for a café inside a gym. It's located upstairs at North Mass Boulder, but you don't have to be climbing to enjoy it. (If you haven't been bouldering there. You should check that out!!! They have day passes available.) There are tons of places to sit and relax -- tables up front with a nice view of the action, bar seating, and a super comfy gathering space in the back with couches that feels like a hangout living room. It's the perfect place to meet a friend, grab a casual drink, or get some work done with a great atmosphere. The staff is friendly, the vibe is laid-back, and the food and drinks always hit the spot. Met some coworkers for a work lunch and while I had been to North Mass I had never gotten anything from Top Out Cafe. They have a lot of space to hang out or get some work done which is super nice. This review is for the food place inside the rock gym. The fact that this is listed as a separate business speaks volumes. My coworker and I came here for lunch, we didn't even climb, and it was well worth the trip! This rock gym in general is orders of magnitude cooler than the state of the art one we have in Anchorage, even if it lacks roped climbing. Enough about the gym, though, this is a great breakfast place with açai bowls, assorted breakfast items, and incredible coffee. Despite my coworker and I being dressed like middle management business nerds, the crunchy staff here accepted us with open arms, they were incredibly friendly! The tropical smoothie was a delicious treat- highly recommend (and it came highly recommended from the woman working the cafe). The ambiance is a bit strange- it definitely feels like it could be a fun place to work remote but it's a bit noisy and busy? I think it really does a good job of serving it's clientele (being inside of NMB) but the sunlight is so so and the parking was pretty packed so I think for me it doesn't make sense as a casual hangout or remote work spot. read more

Smelly when you walk in since it's a gym but cute cafe upstairs. They have a lot of options, but they do charge to sweeten your drink, they told me they wouldn't charge me because I didn't think my drink was sweet enough, but they told me in the future it is a charge - I just didn't know that while ordering. The Chia seed pudding was really good. It was perfectly sweetened and the kiwis were delicious. I am going to start doing that when I make it homemade. The sticky wings were great very crunchy flavorful, I just wish they came with like celery and ranch on the side. They have plenty of seating inside couches, chairs, benches. Top Out Cafe has been on my list to visit for a really long time. I knew they had rock climbing but I was honestly surprised to see they had a gym in there too, but I loved it! There's a decent amount of space to sit and do some work. I really enjoyed how spacious everything was and how there are tables and couches in the upstairs area. This adorable little cafe is located inside North Mass Boulder. While my daughter and her friends were climbing, they decided to take a break for acai bowls. They are pre-teens and it's the "aesthetic" thing to do now days. They'd never had real bowls though so they were in for a treat. The bowls are HUGE! They don't warn you of that without question. I am a climber at North Mass Boulder, but it is not often I frequent the Top Out Cafe for a snack or drink. Lately, I have been stopping by more to check out their somewhat recently updated menu. I had 20 minutes to kill while waiting for my boyfriend to arrive with my climbing shoes, and I was super hungry after a long day of work. With that in mind, I headed upstairs to grab a snack. I knew I didn't want anything too heavy before climbing so I settled on a smoothie. I love smoothies, but I am allergic to mango- a very common smoothie ingredient. I found something on the menu that didn't have mango and went with that. It was some type of berry smoothie. The employee offered to wash the blender because they use mango in it. I said no thank you because I am not super allergic to mango, but it was a really nice gesture. I had a reward from Top Out Cafe, so my drink ended up being pretty cheap. I probably only waited 2-3 minutes for the drink in total. Upon the first sip, I really enjoyed the taste of the drink. However, I was not as big of a fan of the texture. When I drink smoothies, I want them to be somewhat thick which usually comes from the ice blended with it. I don't want it to be so thick that it won't fit through the straw, but thick enough to feel like a smoothie. This was kinda like drinking juice or like flavored milk. It was really thin and lacked that smoothie feel. Again, the taste was REALLY good, but just not exactly like I love. It goes without saying that I love the feel of Top Out Cafe. I go there often for community events. Recently, I joined North Mass's Beer League, and after climbing every Tuesday, I get a drink ticket to use for draft drinks upstairs. Something about a beer on a Tuesday doesn't hit as hard, so I get kombucha every week. Their kombucha on draft is heavenly. Even from the same company, kombucha in cans just has a vinegary taste that I don't love. On draft, it's perfect!! Overall, I am confident I will be returning to Top Out Cafe. I don't get food often, but I love their trivia events and things of that nature! read more

I love Top Out Cafe for three big reasons: 1. They have not one but THREE avocado toast options. As an avocado toast-loving Millennial/Gen X'er, avocado toast appeals to me greatly. And the avocado toast that I ordered (the Egg Avocado Toast, which included avocado, soft boiled egg, radish, parsley, fennel, celery, green goddess drizzle, smoked paprika, sea salt) was just amazing. It was the perfect light breakfast. 2. This is a cafe that also has beer on tap! Fourteen different beers on tap, to be exact. And there are couches and tables everywhere, so you can lounge about or set up your laptop and work, while enjoying a beer. I love this. 3. There is NO tipping! None! There is even a sign by the register explaining that the employer is responsible for the employee's wages, so no tipping is necessary. Oh my. A place that understands that the American tipping culture is awkward and needs to be reformed? This place really knows how to cement itself into my heart. Mr. Pink would love Top Out Cafe, too, I'm sure. This cafe is on the upper level of North Mass Boulder, a really cool and unique bouldering gym. But you don't need to be a member of the gym or be there to climb. You can just come and enjoy the cafe, if you want. This is what I did. I took a seat that faced the boulder wall, so I watched people climb as I enjoyed my avocado toast and iced horchata beverage. I learned that Top Out Cafe hosts game nights and movie nights, which you can find out more about on their events calendar. These events, just like the cafe and North Mass Boulder, are family friendly! Kids are totally welcome here, which is very nice. read more

Love the vibe inside of Top Out Cafe! It is large space perfect for spreading out and doing any work or homework. They offer a fairly wide variety of hot and cold food items, as well as coffees, juices and smoothies. When I visited I ordered the caprese sandwich. It was an overall tasty sandwich, just maybe a little too sweet for me. My friend ordered the avocado toast with a soft boiled egg and it was so rich in flavor. It did take a while before we received our food but it just started to get busy after we ordered. I have been twice now and hope to be back more and more. It is also very cool to walk into North Mass Boulder and see all the rock walls and high ceilings. This place is soooooo cool! Located inside the new North Mass Boulder building, this cafe sits on top of colorful indoor murals, rock walls, and a gym. There are huge wooden tables with lots of plugs for co-working, as well as a conference room, comfy chairs, and a bartop. The music is bumping and the space is cute. The cafe menu goes far beyond a typical coffee shop. Top Out offers breakfast bowls, acai bowls, smoothies, juices, elixirs, avocado and hummus toasts, coffee, tea, kombucha, salads, snacks, paninis, Impossible burgers, sticky wings, and ice cream. I asked the guy at the counter what he recommended and he shared that his favorites are the goodness greens juice and chicken pesto panini. I ordered both and they were fantastic. The juice is $7.50, but it was SO GOOD and obviously very healthy. Next time I stop in, I want to try the island acai bowl or the kale Caesar salad. Everything just sounds amazing, ya' know?! Parking and getting through the waiver process was a bit frustrating, but once I made it upstairs the horchata latte and this muffin did not disappoint. Drag brunch was limited to I believe 100 tickets and it was first come first served communal seating so we got there early enough to pick a good spot For their drag brunch they sold $30 unlimited mimosas that both of my friends got and they took advantage of that, I got the beer flight of mostly fruited sour beers it was good! It was 4 four oz pours for $9 The food menu for their drag brunch was limited and you think because it was limited it'll be faster service, maybe, but it wasn't, both of my friends got a breakfast sandwich that took a while but my chicken bacon ranch sandwich took about an hour and half to arrive, and asked about my order an hour in after ordering and didn't get my food until the people next to us asked the staff about it for me, finally got my order after an hour and half from ordering, they felt bad and corrected themselves by refunding me my food cost which was good service but I should have gotten my order after I asked about it and not after a stranger asked about it for me because those stranger saw I was waiting for my food for a while Overall I think this is a good place to come back to and I plan to come again for another drag brunch, I'll be happy to give them another try for a higher rating next time if it gets better but for now I think it is fitting for my experience read more

Wanted to try something new in the New Year. I knew North Mass Boulder held first Friday events where people could check out their facility for a reduced price. Never had done indoor rock climbing before , so decided to head on over and check it out. Before my friend and I climbed , we decided we needed a little food in our bellies so we headed to their cafe. I was super impressed with their variety of coffees, smoothies, salads and other foods. I got the overnight oats and and iced chai latte. The overnight oats were delicious! We had noticed they had beer and ciders on tap so we decided we would reward ourselves afterwards with a drink. When we were done climbing , we headed back to the cafe. They had my very favorite Ash and Elm Cider, the Marigold Chai and we got chips and salsa. I would honestly come back here just for the food. Not sure if it's because I'm in my third trimester but my food cravings have been insistent and varied lately. Today it was for a smoothie bowl and juice. Now I've seen beautiful pics on Top Out Cafe's Instagram page and didn't realize how close to my workplace they are (spoiler alert, I'm coming back). The surrounding area is industrial so walking into the shared space of North Mass Boulder downstairs and Top Out Cafe upstairs, i was not expecting to see a colorful neat rocking climbing gym and a modern cafe. Looks like there are also office spaces and meeting rooms located here too. The employee who took my order was kind to answer my questions about their menu. I wish i could try their beers on tap and nitro brew but that'll have to be for another time. Once i ordered, i was given a number card and they brought my order out to me once readied. That pistachio smoothie bowl was fresh and totally hit the spot! The bowl it was served in felt really nice, grounding, and aesthetically pleasing, which i appreciate. The juice was also very good: smooth and well balanced. High tops, bar seating, a wide range of tables, couches, lounge chairs, you've pretty much got every type of setting for every type of meal. In terms of food, Top Out is an excellent cafe with a balanced menu that suits any time of day, from early morning pastries to lunch to drinks in the evening. It's excellent to have a high-quality space like this that's open to the public, while also inviting enough that guests consider going for a climb, and offers a cool welcoming space for newcomers to bouldering. Thank god a coffee/study spot stays open past 6pm here in Indy!! I'm glad something caters to the night owl workers in the city! I usually come here and get their açaí bowl. The first time I had it, I thought it was ok but more on the bland unremarkable side. Then the second time I came in, I decided to add peanut butter and honey, which highly elevated it!! I did think it was a bit on the soupier side, so I hope the next açaí bowl I get is less soupy but soupy enough that I can still mix it with all the toppings. read more

I got the dragonfruit bowl. They have a unique granola and can get acai bowls there are outside of the norm. The staff was helpful with choosing a bowl and describing what each of them are like. Decided to venture out and try a new coffee shop and regrettably tried the iced blueberry mint latte(which was about $7) and it was absolutely putrid. When I asked the lady at the counter about it she never offered to adjust anything or even change the drink. After I asked her if I could try something else she said yes but began to ring me up and said I do have to charge you for it....i said even though it's disgusting and I've only taken a small sip she said yes. My advice is if you enjoy trying new places and new drinks this is not the place to go because satisfaction is absolutely not guaranteed. Lounge spot, working spot (including two conference rooms, WiFi and plenty of outlets), tap room and even a projector for movie nights. Also you do not have to be a member of the gym to access the cafe and taproom. If you're craving something good to eat or drink there are a plethora of options. Feeling healthy? They have got you covered with smoothie bowls, smoothies and juices all made to order. My favorite thing about their smoothies/smoothie bowls is that they are not overly sweet. So you're not going to get a sugar rush, just the hint of sweetness from the fruit inside like mother nature intended. Want to sip on a coffee with friends or catch up on some work? Grab your laptop or a friend and let's go. You can enjoy everything from a fresh drip to nitro cold brew and even some latte art on your cappuccino (peep the cami special I had).
