He came by to look at the work promptly as he promised and gave me a fixed price for it. Happy with his offer we arranged for him to come back at 8:00 am Monday morning to do the job. He and his helper were here at 7:40 am, ready to work. They made pretty short work of our job, loaded all the trimmed wood and stuff on a trailer, raked and cleaned up leaving our yard looking better than when they arrived. They were done in slightly less than 3 hours, including some story telling from Andy in answer to our questions about his history in the business. I recommend them whole heartedly.

The tree had sentimental value and we wanted to have it milled for use in the new house. Andy was the only person willing and able to take on the project. He climbed and limbed the tree then took down the top 10' in order to land the remaining 65' on the property. We live on a large city lot with adjacent neighbors and were a little apprehensive about having the tree felled but Andy landed it precisely where he said he would. The milling made a huge mess but we now have 1100sf of flooring, stair treads and other lumber drying in a kiln and huge table slabs available for sale to offset the cost of the job. Definitely recommend Andy Cunningham. Unfortunately the lumber was ruined during kiln drying. While Andy is top notch for taking trees down find someone else to do final milling of wood. Very disappointed and out quite a bit of money. Hoping Andy will make things right.

It is disappointing to have to give a less than stellar review, because Cloudy Sky did some…read moreimpressive work on the first job I hired them for. Unfortunately the second job went much worse. Cloudy Sky would not stand by their work, which left me scrambling at the last minute to hire another crew to finish the job. The first job was to cut down a 50' Aspen tree in a relatively confined space. Cloudy Sky's bid was very competitive compared to the other bids, so I went with them. Cloudy Sky did a great job felling a tall tree into a very limited space, and they also did not destroy the lawn, which the other companies warned me they likely would. I do wish they had warned me that Aspens respond to being cut down by sending out underground roots in every direction and sprouting up tens of little suckers in my and my neighbors' yards. There are ways of avoiding this problem, but I didn't know about any of this until it was too late. But I can forgive this oversight, as Aspens are not native to this area and many people don't know about this problem. Based on this good experience, I hired Cloudy Sky to grind the Aspen stump as well as another massive Cedar stump. This job went sideways from the start. A Cloudy Sky estimator failed to give me the information I needed to prepare the area around the stumps, so when the crew arrived they couldn't do the job, which was really disruptive as I was having to coordinate with my neighbor to cross their property. After I prepared the area, and we rescheduled to have the crew come back, they did grind the stumps. But when I shoveled the wood chips out of the area, I discovered that in some places it was not as deep as the 6-8" below grade promised on the contract. In a few places, the stump was basically still at grade (see attached photo). I don't fault the crew for this, as there were a *lot* of wood chips that obscured the ground and made it easy to miss spots like this. But I am very unhappy that even when I sent them this photo, they wouldn't come back to fix the job. Worse, for several weeks they led me to believe that they *were* open to fixing it, so when I finally realized they weren't going to come back (they never explicitly said this, they just sort of ghosted me), I had to scramble to hire somebody else at the last minute before my landscaping crew arrived later that week. Unfortunately, this experience led me to conclude that Cloudy Sky will not stand by their work.

I wanted to share my experience with R&A Tree Service and Ryland Popke regarding an…read moreinsurance-related tree removal claim on my home. While the actual work they performed was done well, the business side of the experience was very disappointing and stressful. If you are planning to use this company for an insurance claim, make sure you fully understand the payment expectations upfront and have cash available before agreeing to any work. In my case, I never received a clear price before the work was completed. After the fact, I was presented with an invoice totaling over $12,000. I later had another company provide a quote for the same work, and their estimate was only $5,200 -- a huge difference. The most frustrating part has been the payment process with insurance. My insurance company sent payment directly to R&A Tree Service, but the amount was about $500 less than the invoice they submitted. Instead of working cooperatively through the insurance process, they immediately began discussing liens, interest charges, and additional pressure tactics while still requesting breakdowns and documentation from the insurance company. "I need this resolved immediately so we can avoid further escalation, additional costs, and continued lien enforcement proceedings." Again, the workmanship itself was good, but I strongly recommend getting 2-3 bids before signing anything and making sure pricing is agreed to in writing beforehand. If your project involves an insurance claim, proceed carefully and make sure you understand exactly how payment timing and billing disputes will be handled.

But it's not worth it when they are in a hurry, do sloppy work (poor clean up) and cause damages without fixing the problems (cut down wrong tree, broke sprinkler line, sheared limb off of a specimen tree while trying to remove a dead limb from a large tree above, etc.). Disappointed and will noit use again.
