Catfish, fries green tomatoes and beans. The catfish is delicious!
Debbie G.

My hubby and I drove past this restaurant and noticed the neat buildings. Then we realized it is a restaurant. We decided to stop. The restaurant is big and decorated simple. Our server was very friendly. She suggested we get the pulled pork and catfish. This is a simple restaurant. You get your food on a styrofoam plate. The pulled pork and BBQ sauce was ok. The catfish is probably some of the best I have ever had. I loved the cornmeal breadcrumbs. Too bad they don't have homemade tater sauce. For sides we had fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, beans and onion rings. The onion rings and fried green tomatoes were yummy. Reasonable prices. If I am in the area again, I would eat here.

Pork plate with burnt bits, baked beans and fried green tomatoes. Sorry had already started eating when I took picture.

Been coming here since a child (40 now). Everything has always been wonderful. You can even ask for the burnt bits and get them. The fried green tomatoes are cooked fresh and just like I remember my maw maw making. It is a nice drive out there and well worth it. They are closed Monday and Tuesday.

I was in Hanceville today for the first time ever. When passing by Top Hat, it was impossible to miss the smoke billowing out of the massive chimney. I knew that we had to stop on the way back by. The inside is decorated like an old country store. Tons of old memorabilia covered the walls. Think Cracker Barrel, but more authentic. There's nothing fancy about this place, and I like it. The dining room was full of what seemed to be locals. They were all polite and seemed to be in no hurry. The waitress was really kind and attentive. The order took longer than you would expect to come out, but it wasn't a huge deal. I ordered the open face pork plate with fries and slaw. The fries were good and crispy and the slaw was cold and flavorful. The sandwich was good as well, but was more about the bread than the meat. Either way, it was definitely enough food. If for nothing more than the atmosphere, you should defintely stop here if you're ever in the area. It's the real deal.

A new stylish decoration on the wall.

Best Food Hands Down ! Service was amazing, waiting to be served was fast ! Staff was amazing…read moredefinitely recommend this for your next meal

Oh my God. Some of…read moreyou may know that I am a phenom in the smoke pit, and also if you go through my reviews you see that I frequent barbecue places all over the country. Probably one out of every four or five actually make the cut. This is one of them. Place was packed, and they close at 3:00 so you need to get your butt in there or you'll miss out. They had a separate dining room that had a private event, and then the main dining room for all of us hungry little festerlings. They've won top barbecue awards 4 years in a row, the decorations are nice, everything about the inside is nice and warm. I walked in, and was immediately greeted and told us just sit wherever I'd like to so I grabbed the first table I was next to. They say everything's bigger in texas, and I've been to plenty Texas barbecue joints, but they ain't bigger than THIS 'Bama spot. Ho-ly cow. The waitress got my drink and took my order. I ordered fried pickles as an appetizer, which I absolutely did not need. I also ordered the five meat plate with three sides. I walked in there, not have eaten all day, so I was pretty damn hungry. I got so full, I was considering calling a cab to drive me back across the street where I'm staying. I digress.... Shortly after ordering she came to my table with homemade chips. Literally some of the best I've ever had anywhere. Then my sides came, then my plate came. My GAWD what did I just order!? The amount of food that you get for the price is just amazing. My fried pickles were eight bucks, and my platter was only 26 bucks but seriously, it can feed two people and still have leftovers to take home. I left with two boxes of leftovers that I'll be able to eat on for the next 2 days easy. I ordered smoked ham, smoked turkey, pulled pork, SLICED brisket (the way it is SUPPOSED TO BE made, none of that chopped crap) and REAL pork ribs. None of that "fall off the bone" nonsense that these low budget wannabe BBQ places advertise, that always end up just being steamed and then tossed in an oven or electric smoker. All my meats were outstanding. The brisket was tender, the ribs were on point, the turkey was outstanding. Okra was normal, I wasn't too big of a fan of the turnip greens, but my sweet baked potato was ridiculous! In a good way! My server was super nice, they were super slammed and she still managed to chit chat a bit with me. All in all, my meal came to 40 bucks. And like I said, I have two PACKED styrofoam to go containers. I'm really glad I walked over here. And I'm really glad that this place knows what barbecue SHOULD be. There's a lot of restaurants I've been to, that could take notes from this place. This is only my second time in Dodge City, but when I come back here, I'll definitely be coming back for more Chow! SO worth the money! ***DISCLAIMER*** This pure, uncut, honest review is federally protected under Federal Law by way of Bill #EO14149. I have had this bookmarked forever. Not sure how or why I did, but I sure am glad that I did!!…read more It's an old school hole in the wall kind of place. These are my favorite kind of places in the world. From the moment I walked up and saw the big piles of wood outside I knew I was probably going to like this place. We had an amazing meal here. Every single bite was good. I ate myself damn near sick! I cannot wait to come back!! The day we were there the bartender was waiting on the whole place himself with just someone helping him run food and clear tables. We only had an hour before we had to be at an appointment, so when we sat down at the bar I got concerned that we would not have time to eat here. He was busy. He seemed behind. Thank goodness I was wrong. Once he finally got to us we were decided on our meals. He took our order on his little handheld register thing, grabbed our tasty beverages, and poof, off he went. C had the pulled chicken sandwich with deviled eggs and I had pulled pork, smoked chicken thighs, beans, and a giant pile of pork rinds. Holy shit it was good!!! I didn't pay attention to the fact that my thighs had AL white sauce on them until well after I had ordered. Had I know that, I would not have ordered them. I despise all things that have anything to do with mayonnaise. But.... Had I known, I would have never known. I fucking loved it! I could have eaten 10 of them. There were hands down the best smoked chicken that I have ever had. The pork was bad ass too! I dare say perfect. Beans were great, and the pork rinds side was massive and still warm from the fryer with a killer seasoning on them. There are not enough adjectives to describe this food. I am in love. I cannot wait to get some more of those damn chicken thighs!! '26 - 68
