Good-basic bbq. I love that it's not greasy, but, delicious pulled pork. Their white/vinegar sauce makes the sandwich. Slaw is true and not sweet. Came here last week for a quick lunch after working in the area. I was somewhat surprised to find that it was a drive-through only setup, but that wasn't a big deal; I don't mind eating in my car. They were quite busy for almost 2 PM, with about 6 cars ahead of me. The line mostly moved at a reasonable pace with maybe one exceptional car. The menu is posted far enough away that you have time to think about what you might want if there's people in front of you. They have pork, chicken, stew, etc., and the more plain type of traditional bbq sides like slaw, beans, and chips. The lady at the window wasn't very friendly and seemed over it, but my food came out quickly at least. I went with what I always think of as the safest bet at an unfamiliar bbq place, which is a bbq potato. Unfortunately, this item was a bust. My sweet tea was a bust, too. It tasted dishwater-esque with a strong undercurrent of lemon -- which I don't like in my tea. The potato -- well, I wasn't even sure if it had pork bbq on it at first, despite that being what I asked for. It was very pale and stringy meat. This meat was absolutely smothered in a thin, sour sauce that I can assume based only on color was an attempt at white sauce. The meat WAS pork, but I don't usually eat that with white sauce. It was odd. The pork itself had no smoke flavor, and most of my bites were dominated by a sour, vinegary, unpleasant flavor. Additionally, I'm pretty sure my potato was just bbq meat, sauce, and butter -- the liquid kind you just drizzle on there, super oily. No sour cream, no chives, no CHEESE?! Not even on the side? It was wildly plain and that added on even more disappointment. The one redeeming factor was the potato itself was cooked nicely. Wound up picking around the bbq and sauce and just eating that. I pitched most of my meal and drink in the trash can of a nearby shopping center. Maybe I came on an off day, but overall, this was a huge letdown for me. read more

I was a little disappointed with their beef option as it wasn't clear what it was. I was expecting brisket and it appeared to be like shredded roast beef. It had a decent flavor. Also, was not a fan of the coleslaw. The mild bbq sauce was lackluster. I also tried to go there a couple weeks prior and during the business day they had signs up saying closed until Monday as they were sold out of meat. Really solidly good bbq. I tried the pork but they have beef and ribs too. Nice smoky flavor and not dried out. That's a pet peeve of mine and their bbq is moist and smoky. The food is pretty good. Potato salad is mayonnaise with red potatoes and dried dill weed. The slaw is vinegary. Not sure how much smoking and how much boiling is done with the ribs, but you get a good amount of meat for the price. The sandwiches, however, are a different thing. I ordered one large sandwich with no slaw and one small sandwich with no slaw. I kid you not, the meat was stretched so thin, it had to be less than 1.5oz on each bun. In fact, the larger sandwich is only larger because the bun is big. The pickle slice was thicker than the meat! For a $5 sandwich, the profit had to be $4.50. That's probably the last time I'll pick up for a while. read more

Ah, Wilson's.... This place boasts some seriously good BBQ. It's tucked away on a side street just off of HWY 431 in Albertville. Lemme tell you.... no one, and I do mean NO ONE, on Sand Mountain knows how to drive. One literally risks life and limb to drive the 431 "gauntlet", but for Wilson's, I'll take that risk ;) But, I digress. My favorite combination is the BBQ chicken with the vinegar sauce. It's not pulled chicken...it comes as smoked tenders, and dear Lord it's great. The pork is also fantastic...goes well with the "Thick and Warm" sauce. All the meats have that great smoky flavor and are quite tender. The side are very good too. I'm not a slaw person, but my family like Wilson's vinegar based slaw. The potato salad is also a very solid side. Wilson's also caters. It's been a 4th of July go to for us for years. My only complaint (and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is the sides menu is pretty limited. It would be great if they offered more of a variety of sides. Was shopping nearby and got hungry, so I ran through their drive-thru and ordered a regular BBQ pork sandwich. I've never eaten there before, so I had no idea what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. The meat had a great flavor and was fresh tasting. Their all-the-way sandwich had plenty of everything.. meat, mayo, vinegar slaw and pickles. Real tasty! I'm Delta born and bred, so anyplace boasting barbeque on its menu outside of Memphis usually gets a bit of a sneer from me. Wilson's, however, knocks my freaking socks off. This is not only THE BEST barbeque you will find on Sand Mountain, but I'd wager you could stack their Beef Super Q against many award-winning BBQ sandwiches across our fair land and Wilson's would come out on top. The flavor is incredible, with or without sauce. Speaking of sauce: The sauce they call 'thick and warm' is terific. Also? Try the potato salad. I'm not a fan of potato salad in general, and I make sure I pick some of theirs up every last time, it's so good. YUM! Fast service, too. The ribs are the most tender, fall of the bone meat that I've ever seen. Incredibly moist and a great smoky flavor, try a couple of bones if you're not sure about commiting to a half of a rack. If you like ribs, you won't be disappointed. read more
