We pulled into Papa Dubi's around 1:45, not realizing the kitchen closes at 2:00. We apologized and said we'd come back another time because we didn't want to be "those people", but the staff insisted it was no problem at all. That alone made a great first impression. We ordered quickly and went with the Cajun Sampler--Red Beans and Rice, Gumbo, Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya, and Crawfish Sauce over Rice. We also added hushpuppies and boudin. Every single thing was spot‑on delicious. Each sampler dish had the perfect balance of rice to main ingredients, and the flavors were rich, authentic, and comforting. The boudin was the real deal, and the hushpuppies were just as good. Brandon was our server, and he couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating, especially considering how close it was to closing time. For being this far from Louisiana, Papa Dubi's is absolutely doing it right. We'll definitely be back. read more

Had to do a work thing at the nearby cancer center and decided to stop in. Being from Louisiana, I never miss a chance to check out a Cajun place. I love the whole vibe of the place. Everyone was super friendly, shout out to our server Brandon. Friendly and willing to engage in my favorite activity (small talk!) lol. To the food. I have an extensive list of food allergies and intolerances. So I will always review a place where I can find a good meal and not get sick or worse. I had the burger po'boy and it was great! Perfect ratio of burger to bread. The fries were pretty standard Sysco fair but I like their seasoned fries so all good. Hubs had the catfish lunch meal and he enjoyed it. Ordered the boy the crab cake meal and he loved it. Also got the 4 sides option as part of our to-go order - gumbo, red beans & rice, jambalaya, and etouffee. I hate soupy rice & beans, so I was happy to see that these were done right. They also tasted great. I'm giving this restaurant one star for customer service, considering we never even had the opportunity to eat there. We arrived with a large party and made it clear from the beginning that we were completely willing to be split up. After waiting 45 minutes and making three separate trips to speak with the hostess, we ultimately decided to leave. What made the situation especially frustrating was that there were seven available four-person tables/booths and two available eight-person tables, all located within close proximity to one another. Despite having enough seating available, the staff refused to seat us because they did not want to split up our party--even though we repeatedly stated that we were fine with that arrangement. The lack of flexibility and communication resulted in us leaving without ever being served. read more

When an associate recommended this place for "good" seafood in middle of nowhere Alabama, my expectations weren't that high. Mannn listen!!!! The food here was sooo good. Better than I expected for small town Alabama. This place can definitely compete with the "big Alabama city" Cajun restaurant offerings. I ordered the blackened seafood combo and substituted the fries and slaw with a side salad and steamed broccoli. My salad came first, and it was a decent size. The salad came with lettuce, cheese, purple onions, tomatoes, and croutons. The platter came out shortly thereafter. The food was hot and plentiful in that basket! The combo included fish, oysters, shrimp, and crawfish. The oysters were plump, too! The blackened seasoning made everything tasty. My only complaint was the amount of oil at the bottom of the basket. (If I'd had some French bread. I probably would've sopped it up though! Lol.) Restaurants tend to overcook steamed broccoli; this wasn't overcooked at all! I was thinking I'd have to add salt or pepper, too; it needed neither! I tried to eat all of everything, but it was too much food for me alone, so I boxed the remainder. I left sad though; only because I chose to eat the hush puppy (which isn't on my diet) and it was so buttery and good and had to leave the other three behind. I thought about the other three hush puppies all the way home on my 1.5 hour drive. I hope they're thinking of me like I'm thinking of them. The servers were friendly and the service was quick. We weren't planning on eating Cajun, but after reading some reviews, we decided to give Papa Dubi's a try for lunch, and we're glad we did. My wife ordered the fried shrimp, and it came out perfectly fried to a golden brown. The shrimp were big and delicious. The coleslaw was OK, but the fries were excellent. I ordered the crawfish po'boy. Our waiter asked if I wanted a 1/2 or whole po''boy. I said whole, not knowing better. Wow. What a massive po'boy with a more than generous amount of crawfish. My po'boy was jammed full of crispy fried crawfish and my plate was also covered with crawfish. I'm a big eater, so I finished it all, but I was stuffed. Oh, it was so good. Unless you are extremely hunger, go with a half crawfish po'boy. Service was good and prices very reasonable. read more

Amazing!!! Perfect food for a rainy day when you need comfort food. We drove about 45 minutes to try this place and will 100% be going back. I had the chicken and sausage jambalaya and husband had blackened combo platter with shrimp, crawfish, and catfish. The hush puppies were crispy with a touch of sweetness, even good and crispy on day 2. Our server was so nice, I can't remember her name though. She was very attentive to us even though they were super busy. It was, in my humble opinion, the kind of place where you're very pleasantly surprised and it surpasses expectations. We'd read good things of course, but you never know. The decor is simple, nothing flashy, but it has a cool modern vibe and the outdoor area where we sat was bustling with life and great music over the audio system. We started with the crab claws. Always a favourite and these were good. I'm not a fan of cocktail sauce but theirs is good - not sweet, the right amount of zing, and the consistency is great. For dinner we had a sampler with Étouffée, Red beans and rice, and Imperial sauce over rice. All excellent and paired well will a little Cajun Love (Tabasco). I had the crawfish tail basket and it was awesome too. Just perfect and I added a crab cake to it - their crab cakes would get a Gordon Ramsey seal of approval. For dessert we share the bread pudding - very well put together, not syrupy and not oozing with raisins (in fact no raisins - which I prefer). We got there just before the dinner rush and that turned out to be a genius move! This place is popular! We got the sampler 7 dish and shared it. There was plenty for 2 people that way. Everything was quite delicious. I wouldn't eat here if I were in new Orleans. But I was I. BOAZ so that makes this convenient and delicious. I will spend more of my money here. It is a great way to get your Cajun fix without all the work. The dining room is very fast food decor. Uncomfortable chairs and booths. Noisy and it feels like they want you to eat and get out. Host was pleasant and shared offerings for my to go order. Selected the lunch special of blackened shrimp which included fries and coleslaw. Substituted the cup of gumbo for french fries for a small charge. Paired meal with crab cakes appetizer and ordered the King bread pudding for dessert. The food was well seasoned and held up well during my drive. The crab cakes, which included 3, were lightly breaded and equally flavorful. Dessert came with instructions to replicate the king cake Mardi Gras design. It was a great mixture of traditional bread pudding with king cake and not overly sweet. Would have given an additional star if crab cakes were not left off of original order. The server who brought my order initially was able to quickly place and add to my items. The Cajun rice was ok .. we received some great customer service.. the hostess up from took our order and we picked it up hot from the Drive thru where the young lady was nice as well. Now .. First things first - the atmosphere and food was delicious and I WILL be back! Our server was absolutely amazing and attentive to all the outdoor seated patrons. However, while seated outdoors there is a drink serving counter with pitchers to refill tea and water glasses sitting uncovered. At the base of the drink counter the serving plates, cutlery, and uneaten food was being placed in tubs on the floor and there were flies everywhere. Flies were also on the uncovered drink pitchers that was used for refills. I brought the observance to the server's attention and he got our refills from the kitchen inside. We were also seated right by the door where the dirty dish tub was so we had to contend with keeping flies off of our food. That is an easy fix so I hope my review does just that!!! read more

We decided to take the family out to try this place to see what they were all about. One of us ordered a lobster pasta entree and had asked for no onions. Our server was standing around chatting with another employee for a long time and never looked over, to which we never got drink refills, he never even checked on us. We waited about 15 minutes for the waiter after someone else brought out our food, and nothing, we had to ask someone else for help as the order that had the no onion request had onions, and he never returned to the table until he gave us the bill 30 minutes later. This is not how a wait staff is supposed to operate. Train them a little better please. We will never return again because of this experience, so you lost us as customers. The ambiance was very open, which I don't like, and the place did not seem to have much privacy, you walk in and see every table in the place. Not what I expect from a mid-range priced restaurant, also a little too much light in there as well. read more

They were seasoned very well and the snap... I have to go back. The blackened catfish poboy is so very flavorful. My partner thoroughly loved it. I will say the poboys are simple, lettuce, tomato, pickle but the star is perfectly cooked seafood. The second times, the blackened combo and shrimp poboy. I highly recommend this place. We went there with a group of 6 on a Friday night so we expected a wait. Waited about 20 minutes. (To be expected if you go Friday or Saturday). Our waitress was very prompt getting our drink orders and asking about appetizers. Got our food in a timely manner for a Friday night. I had the grouper with shrimp imperial sauce. It was excellent! Wife had the grilled shrimp, her regular, and it was excellent as usual. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. Our number one pic when in the Albertville/ Guntersville area! We love the shrimp appetizer and the new warm crab dip appetizer. The beer I wanted was out, but the mixed drinks and other alcohol is always great! I haven't ever had bad service here! They are always personable and attentive, never making us ask or wait on them. It is always crowded and the place is not very big, but it's is clean and the outdoor seating and bar is great to be seated at when weather permits. I always like a blackened fish choice over rice with the crawfish sauce, it's great every time! read more
