A new fav, I drive from Guntersville and it's worth it!! Good food, perfectly grilled meat which is nice and tender. The brisket sandwich was easily a 10, the baked beans and desserts are amazing, service is great and the restaurant is clean and inviting. I gave 4 stars because I'm not a fan of the potato salad, my gumbo was ice cold, we weren't a fan of the tacos and the only two veggies on their menu are frequently unavailable. Great take on traditional and non traditional bbq dishes and something to please everyone. Burgers and fries and potato wedges are top notch just like the BBQ and the curated desserts and their slaw hoecakes and pickles are a can't miss too. We will call on the way home from work for a quick drive thru pickup or even if you don't call ahead you will get quick counter service. My husband and I ate here last night. I've been a couple times and never did a review so I figured it was time! I had the loaded tater with pulled pork and it was good. My only complaint was that the meat was not pulled very much. It was very chunky and that's not what I've had before (I'm assuming it was probably the last meat of the day since we came 30 mins before they closed). The flavor was good just not the texture I prefer for pulled pork. My husband had the nachos with pulled pork (his meat was pulled a bit more than my meat too). He loved his nachos and I did too!! Great flavors layered thru out!! I had a dessert too... the cookies and cream. It was great!!! Not sure what was in it but it had bits of cookie dough, chocolate pudding, and maybe cool whip?? Whatever it was... it was bangin!!! I will go back again since I have been before and wasn't disappointed! Worth a try if your in the area!!! Get those nachos!!! read more

This looked like a hole in the wall from the outside but I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in. It was clean with up to date decor and plenty of space. Hubby got the ribs and they were meaty and juicy. I had the BBQ sandwich with "everything" . It was HUGE and was piled high with moist pulled pork, slaw , and crunchy homemade pickles. I think these are what's called quick pickles: thinly sliced cucumber and onion marinated in vinegar and sugar , not exactly a dill or bread and butter but they made the sandwich! My side was the baked potato salad and it was good. Also on the menu were fried pork skins and pimento cheese dip and BBQ nachos which looked really good. My only "ding" was that we had to wait a little while for our food to arrive but in this post ? Covid era that's to be expected anywhere you go. We haven't been back to my wife's hometown in over two years. We finally made it back for Christmas and I really had a craving for bar-b-que. The one place my mother-in-law normally went to was closed down, so we gave Hog Leg a try. We loved the price of the family deal, $26 for 2 lbs of pork is pretty good price to go along with 2 sides and a dessert. I hated that they didn't have any smoked chicken, which is one reason I gave this place 3 stars. The second reason I gave 3 stars is because the corn bread really wasn't corn bread, they were more corn cakes and they were cold. Finally, the bread pudding had icing on top which was a little unnerving and unorthodox. Would rather have had a caramel sauce or something to that effect on it. As for the bar-b-que sauces, we opted for sweet, Texas gold, and white. The Texas gold was by far the best of the group, a nice tang and zip to it. The sweet tasted off, almost too tomato-ey. I was disappointed by the white sauce. You'll only find white bar-b-que sauce in North Alabama. This sauce was not it. I don't know if it was missing horseradish or what, but it didn't hit what I'm used to. read more

Wow. Although I have had take-out from Hogleg before (the pimiento cheese with their seasoned crackers is obscenely good), I had never been to the restaurant. Today I had the Cuban with pulled pork, ham, pickles, and melted cheese. Wife had the BBQ Nachos. Both were scrump-diddly-umptious but the standouts for me personally were the sides -- red-skin tater salad and Ranch-style baked beans. The owner gave us a sample of their new dessert, which was a sort of lemon pudding and sofa king good. Had to pass on desserts today but seems like they are worth another trip along with the smoked wings I want to try. read more

Absolutely the worst "food" I have ever seen. Notice I did not say eat. We were in a hurry, paid a lot of money for "lean brisket", ribs, and pulled pork. Absolutely rancid! I almost don't want to do this because I'd like to keep this place to myself. We've been going for a few months now and they don't disappoint. Pork is great, loaded potato is great, tacos are great, and oh man the banana pudding is off the chain. My wife and I think this place should be in Triple D on the Food Network. Not sure who's been reviewing this place but it was awful. Bad, bad, bad. I had bbq sandwich and it was so soggy that the bun fell apart when I picked it up. Friendly. Very generous portions. I had the loaded potato with pork. The tea was given in little 1/2 qt jugs ( so cute) - I would go back to try more. A couple things. I HATE eating with plastic off of styrofoam plates just because it is a barbecue place so I was happy with real fork and knife and no styrofoam!!! My other pet peeve is fake butter being called "butter." So FYI, not real butter here if that matters to you. I don't think I've given it a good enough trial yet--.
