This is one of those rare occasions where I have been so impressed by a service provider that I actually started writing my review while he was still working. Last week's bomb cyclones and torrential rains caused flooding that disrupted nests of subterranean termites and sent them scurrying up our drain pipes and (disgustingly) into our kitchen. It looked like the biblical Children of Israel crossing the Red Sea and into our sink (if the Children of Israel were gross, winged creatures that swarmed, flew and hopped all over your sink and counter). I found Rene at Top Grade on Yelp, sent him pictures, and he responded within MINUTES with his diagnosis. He provided an estimate (which he promised would not change regardless of any additional infestations he might find). We scheduled a FREE inspection the next day, and he provided me with fully documented results, including detailed photographs and comprehensive, easy-to-understand explanations. The infestations were indeed a little more extensive than I had hoped, but true to his word, the estimate did not change. Today, on the first and only dry day in these many weeks of deluge, Rene came out to do the treatment. He had emailed me reminders and answered all of my questions in detail, including how he envisioned the day (so I could plan my work around his). He drilled holes in the concrete around the exterior perimeter of the house and garage (not nearly as noisy as I feared), then came into my crawl space to knock down the termites' "mud tunnels" (don't ask) and destroy and remove their nests and those of ants. He also removed the wooden form board that our renovators had left many years ago when they built my home office in the basement, because the board, too, had become infested with ants. He had to walk back and forth through my office to get to the crawl space, and was careful to use shoe covers and to place a mud cloth over the carpet to keep it clean. When he discovered a light drip in the crawl space, he came upstairs with me to show me where my shower needed to be recaulked (a quick job for me). He also placed protective plastic under cardboard boxes that were stored in the crawl space which he suspected might attract ants. Rene has now completed the crawl-space stage and is now spraying deep into the exterior drilled holes with Termidor (Fipronil), and will then seal them with mortar. Throughout the process, Rene has been patient, professional, and considerate. He answered all of my questions, provided professional documentation, and in general has gone above and beyond to provide a superior customer experience. The treatment is very reasonably priced for the number of hours it took. It comes with a three-year warranty and yearly inspections at no additional cost. read more

Initial inspection revealed two spots, but when they arrived to treat them, they had no working camera to ensure they covered all spots inside the wall. So, Rene came to finish the work. He did a super thorough inspection of our house, even had to come back since our crawl space was too wet after the storms, showed us photos/videos all along and kept us very informed and up to date, even telling us about future concerns / past things he sees that are gone now. We had inspections and quotes from 3 local termite companies to address evidence of termite infestation in our home. All 3 companies performed a thorough house inspection, and all recommended local treatment vs tenting, since there was evidence of wood boring termites only in one upstairs bedroom, but provided quotes for both options. Top Grade went the additional step of recommending attic treatment and also offered a 3 year warranty that included annual inspections. We hired them last Thursday, and a 3 man crew, led by Rene, performed the spot/local treatment today (Monday). Rene and his team are a step above! After recently purchasing a home where the pest inspection was not done properly and finding termites myself upon moving in, Rene was an absolute hero. We were introduced to Top Grade Termite Control as we were closing on a house in Berkeley. Rene provided a thorough inspection and found areas that the seller's pest company said they did but did not complete (which we had resolved by the seller). There were a few items that we were responsible to fix from the pest inspection (repair and replacement in areas outside the house and under our porch with fungus/dry rot damage and subterranean termite damage) and we hired Top Grade Termite Control to do these fixes, and I'm so glad we did. Rene was extremely responsive, professional, and provided quality service/work. Overall you could tell Rene is just a really good guy. He was prompt in scheduling time for our projects and was very communicative as we led up to the date of the scheduled work. Rene went above and beyond in regards to the fixes -- he identified some items that weren't originally in our quote but took care of it without hesitation to ensure the job was done right and well. He also took pictures throughout the project and upon completion so we had thorough documentation (this was also helpful as we weren't in-person for all of the fixes).
