I love how this place is open for a late-night snack or whether you flew in late from the airport. This place is always good. I love getting their two kinds of fried rice (yeen yerng chow fan). One side is creamy, the other side is like tomato-soupy. It's so delicious and the quality is always phenomenal. I am in love with this place for late-night eating. I have heard that their HK-style milk tea is also delicious but pretty strong so it might keep you up for a while. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed as people chat away with loved ones and friends. This place is really dirty, especially with the cups and utensils. The tables are not in the best condition either. I went here for a late dinner, and the place was not full. I didn't order anything crazy since I'm not a fan of the HK style food. I ordered the Malaysian seafood curry, which wasn't bad. There was a lot of curry sauce and enough seafood. Based on the three times I've been here the dish that's worth getting is the baked seafood over rice. Sure the stuff they give you may be a lot of imitation crab and fish (well there are some mussels and shrimp as well...), but they sure pack it on. The two other dishes I tried were: - Baked eel over rice - Oxtail Eh...baked eel wasn't BAD, but it wasn't spectacular. The oxtail...wasn't so great either. But hey maybe fourth time's a charm and I'll find something that is just as good as the baked seafood. Came here with some friends to eat cheap, damn this place is dirty lol! Whatever though it's cheap. Water comes out and the glass has dirt marks and sediment in the water? Another late night place that's good in this plaza next to China Palace. I don't order much here besides beef chow fun. One of my favorite dishes ever, in general. They make it great here. I don't have much to say about some of the other dishes because I always order my usual. My friends usually order a variety of dishes, and they've never been disappointed. So I would suggest to just stop by this place and give it a try. This place is even tinier than China Palace! But they seem to fit people in just fine. There's never a ridiculous wait for this place like there is for china palace sometimes. This place is pretty much like a little diner. You order, they serve, you eat, and then you're on your way. So there's two branches of top cafe in Milpitas, one near Dixon landing and then there's .... this one. The other branch near Dixon Landing is so much better tasting flavor wise and cleaner, as the owner at that franchise seems to be more friendly. This branch, the only good points it earns is that its open late. Hence though, that the majority of the restaurants around the McCarthy area is open late though. I've only ate here twice and the first time I went, the food wasn't great. The SECOND time I came here and ordered, I got a piece of hair in my dish! *gagging* read more

There aren't many late night places in San Jose.. so this is most definitely my go to place when it's past midnight. There are only a few dishes that I order here and they're all so good that sometimes it's really difficult to choose what I want...! My usual dishes are of the following: - The Baked Chicken Cutlet over Rice (it's usually known with pork chop but I like the chicken better) - The Salt and Pepper Pork Chops with Rice (best I've had in the area) - The Rice Porridge with pork and 1000 year old eggs (like another Yelper mentioned.. it's hard to find a place that has porridge. I look for it when the weather gets cooler. This place does porridge very well!) - The Wontons (this is amazingly really good. They're pretty large and filled with shrimp and pork. Very tasty.. reminds me of my Grandma's wontons.. that's saying a lot of this place!). - Fried Chicken Wings (I use to frequent a place like Top Cafe when I lived in SF and they had this fried chicken wing. TC is the closest to that.. brings back memories of the place :)) And I always get the Hot HK Milk Tea. Service is quick and no frills and thrills. Thanks to my Yelp Mobile app for iPhone, I wanted to find some kind of HK style cafe food for lunch without driving all the way to Oakland Chinatown and battling for parking and risk getting my truck dinged! I ordered baked ox tongue over rice and my wife ordered beef udon. The food wasn't bad, but it also didn't make me jump out of my seat and say "DAMN"! either. As for the service, It was very acceptable. Our water cups were kept full and the waitress checked on us more than a couple of times. I've been coming to this area for a while and I haven't bothered to try this place. One of my good friends recommended this place so we came here for a late night dinner. It was a very small restaurant that could probably only serve about 20-25 people at a time. My friends and I were gazing through the menu and I just couldn't decide on what to order. I had never heard about this place and I hadn't Yelped it so I didn't know what was good. I'm usually a noodles type of girl, so I just decided to order the Singapore style chow fun. It came out fairly quick and I started to dig into my dish. It was pretty tasty and not too bad for the price. My friend Mark ordered a beef dish with rice. I tried the beef and it was also tasty, but there was more rice than anything else. My friend Quan had ordered the fish ball noodle soup and his dish came out extremely slow. I think they forgot about his order so he had to remind them about it. Other than that, everything was pretty good. I saw something about their lunch specials being $3.50! What a good deal. Pork over plain rice, covered with a sweet concoction of ketchup and what I can only assume to be a tomato-sauce-wannabe, and baked slightly. I've been here a couple of times, last time was last night at around 12am....and it was packed!! I always get the thousand year old egg with pork porridge, especially when i'm not really craving for anything in particular...the porridge is comforting. I am from hong kong....and this is as ALMOST as good as the ones in hong kong. Get a side of chinese fried donut and dunk it into your porridge until it gets a little bit soggy and it's like a party in your mouth....... I came here at around 10am one weekend and they offer dirt cheap chinese breakfast which usually is porridge... eggs with toast and ham, etc. Not bad! I also tried the stir fried beef udon...and it is ok. It would be a lot better if they didn't have so much veggies in it. The baked porkchop rice and the baked spaghetti bolognese are good as well. I especially liked the baked ham spaghetti with white sauce...mmmm. The interior is very small and not always very clean..but I really don't expect much from most of these small asian restaurants. The food overall is just okay but maybe that's because I don't like Chinese food. However, I really like their fries (thick, crispy, hot). My friends seem to like their casserole dishes and the fried rice which I think are okay. I do like the soup that is on the house. A tomato based soup with vegetables and sometimes, bits of meat. Another restaurant that I frequent with coworkers for lunch. (They know exactly what we want as soon as we sit down). It's not the best Chinese food out there, but you can't really complain about it... the food tastes as it should, it's cheap, and the food is made fast. It's a small place, but it doesn't fill up too often and even if you have to wait, I've never had to stand around for more than 10 minutes to get a table. The service is good, always re-filling your water/tea. We always get the lemon iced tea or a milk tea, and they offer to refill those as well. Can't go wrong with the baked pork chop rice (a staple of these types of restaurants), black pepper chicken, portugese chicken rice, or even a simple wonton noodle soup. Some have claimed a lack of selection on the menu, but as with any chinese restaurant, if you have something in mind, just ask them to make it and most likely they will. Everything comes with a free bowl of a tomato based soup. Try not to look in the corners of the room, as it is a little dirty from years of dust and grease. Food here is great, definitely 4-star material, although you will have to bear with the below-average cleanliness of the place. But then again, that's what makes it look like a typical HK street shop of a tea cafe. And the price matches its appearance -- extremely cheap prices! For that, I don't mind the environment at all. Most of the dishes I've tried here are good, my favorite is the Diana chicken steak, and make it come with fries instead of rice, because the fries here are great (better than any American restaurants including in-n-out). One last thing: the one waitress who doesn't speak much and looks emotionless (who is usually there late night) is actually amazingly nice (surprise!). One time I knocked over my lemon tea drink accidentally and she gave me a new one for free without a word (notice that HK cafes never offer refills for drinks like lemon tea -- so if you knock it over, you'd better be ready to pay for a new one or drink water). We wanted to try this place one late night since a friend recommended it. My girlfriend and I ended up trying it out with my niece after a movie. I was looking around the restaurant and it seemed dirty: there was dust everywhere and dirty floors. I tried looking at the specials that were posted around the restaurant, but were written in Chinese characters. That didn't help one bit. At least the menu had some English in there. We ordered Wonton soup since it was a cold night...IN JULY! and also beef and egg over rice. The Wonton soup was ok and the beef dish was plain. I added salt and pepper to add some flavor, but in doing so, made taste a little better. I think we would have been better off at In n out.
