Sloppy every time and never the right order. Chicken was chewy and they claim there's crab on the baguette but I don't see none.

Unfortunately the food was just as bad and overpriced as the first time, I really don't understand how this place is so well reviewed. We both ordered 310 Burgers, one on the regular brioche bun and one on a lettuce wrap. The lettuce wrap came in two steamed, wilted pieces of iceberg, while the brioche bun was untoasted, foamy-textured and soggy. Both medium burgers had the consistency of boiled meatballs. The bacon jam was decent, but the overall experience was wildly unappetizing. We also both got plain fries, which were somehow greasy and dry at the same time, and instantly turned stale as they cooled down. We really hoped for this place because it's conveniently located, and all the other decent burger spots nearby have closed, but sadly we won't be giving 310 Eatery a third try.

You take your foot off the gas. Club Mallard. You need to know. The interior is dark and warm and full of dead birds. Mounted, taxidermied, presiding over the room with the glassy authority of creatures who didn't expect to end up in a bar in Albany but have made their peace with it. The effect is somewhere between hunting lodge and natural history museum after hours, and it shouldn't work on San Pablo Avenue but it does, completely, the way any sufficiently committed aesthetic decision will eventually override its context. I've been once. Midweek happy hour. This is the most honest way to evaluate a bar -- no weekend crowd to inflate the energy, no event to justify the turnout, just the place and whoever shows up on a Tuesday because they want to be there. The happy hour is good. The bartender was gregarious and present and seemed to actually like the job, which sounds like a low bar until you've spent enough time on the other side of it. The regulars were friendly in the East Bay way, which is to say they talked to us without needing anything from us, offered opinions on what to drink, and went back to their conversations. There's an outdoor space for when you want sky. I've driven past since and seen it packed. I was glad. You root for a place like Club Mallard the way you root for any small enterprise that decided to be something specific in a landscape of sameness, and then just held the line.

It also happens to be somewhat of a meeting point when I'm in Oakland and another friend is in Berkeley. When I was in downtown Oakland it was only 14 minutes away. What a time. I like this bar because the drinks are good, it's affordable, all ages come here and the vibe is nice. There is a pool table downstairs and about two or three upstairs along with a mini bar. The fire place is currently keeping the bar cozy downstairs. So, I've liked Cosmopolitans for some time now and Mallard's has a Mandarin Cosmo. It is so good - it reminds me of an Orange Hi-C.

If you're walking or driving by hungry, it will stop you in your tracks. When I want a real burger, the kind that actually tastes like it came off a mesquite grill, this is the place. The flavor is completely different. Smoky, juicy, simple, and done right. Big portions, no nonsense. Just burgers and fries the way they're supposed to be. The fried mushrooms are so good. Add jalapeños to your burger, game changer. 100% recommend if you're craving a true, no frills, mesquite grilled burger.

The patties have that unmistakable smoky char, the kind you can literally smell as soon as you step into the parking lot. It's the kind of aroma that immediately tells you that you made the right choice. This definitely isn't a spot for the health-conscious, but that's part of the appeal. Everything feels unapologetically indulgent. You can hear the constant sizzle from the grill and the bubbling rush of oil when a fresh batch of fries hits the fryer, it adds to the whole, old-school burger joint experience. And don't skip the pineapple milkshake. It's surprisingly good, with small chunks of pineapple throughout that give it real texture instead of just flavoring. Every now and then you get a bright pop of acidity and sweetness that cuts through the richness, which makes it a lot more interesting than your typical shake.
