Dining experience was wonderful, ambiance was very intimate, great romantic spot. Our waitressed seemed a bit overwhelmed, but did a great job of managing her tables & checking in with us. Baked crab dip, wasn't anything to write home about, tasted like cat food, little flavor & pasty, but the light crisp bread that came with it was fantastic. Caesar Salad was disappointing as well. Very soggy romaine & room temperature. Not the cool, crunchy refreshing salad you'd expect. Entrees were very beautifully presented, unique, and good, but really lacked flavor. With the plethora of ingredients listed in the menu, It seems like the meals were not seasoned and left very bland. Martinis were great! Bit on the pricey side, and we were disappointed for the amount we paid. Crossing this one off the list of places to try, but most likely not returning. read more

Having grown up on the West Coast, San Fran and Portland Oregon; a true foodies paradise...this place should not claim to be fine dining. A land mark restaurant that peaked and seriously needs to invest in a new chef! An upscale eatery it may have been but is no more! Stuck in dishes from the 80's with food tasting as such. I ordered the prime rib and the server did not know if they had horseradish, lol. She had never been asked that before, she said. The menu describes it as slow roasted and rubbed with rosemary. Well everything was rubbed with rosemary. That is all you could taste and the prime rib lacked any other flavor. It was also very tough and poorly seasoned. Your choice if sides..rosemary red potatoes, chefs veg or rice. Really??? The potatoes were hard, oily and over powered by you guessed it, ROSEMARY! My caesar salad was romaine lettuce with store bought greasy dressing, stale store bought croutons and 3 anchovies placed on top (surprisingly the anchovies were the best part of the salad!) The dinner salad was just as sad. Wilted lettuce and a tomato. My companions steak was flavorless as well leaving him unimpressed. The side of "large" shrimp were not large and they were laying in a pool of liquid and they too lacked any flavor. The drinks were decent. The ambiance has a certain charm and uniqueness that would bring you back but the food is just SO DISAPPOINTING!!! It is clear Tony's remains in business because it once was an institution; a place to be in an area that did not offer a whole lot. As the surrounding area continues to grow and offer many more choices Tony's will become obsolete if they do not make some serious changes to their outdated food and menu. I want to like this place but THE SUBPAR FOOD AT RESTAURANT SO INCONVENIENTLY LOCATED with decor BEGGING FOR AN UPDATE.. THERE IS NO REASON.NOT ONE REASON TO GO :( What was most noticeably sad was the mostly empty parking lots and hugly empty tables. The hostess (2 older women) were standing in front and dressed like they were going grocery shopping in their polyester pants and frumpy shirts. A local favorite. Consistent menu items, along with weekly specials too. There's also a Tavern Menu for "smaller portions." The Company Special is worth trying; a 6-ounce filet paired with a crab cake. Ask for the fresh cut fries too--they'll always make them for you! The staff are friendly and attentive. Definitely will not be a repeat customer. New York strip steak over done. Gristle galore. Very narrow choice of sides (2). I was surprised asking for a fork was not an upcharge. I asked if they do onions and mushrooms with the steak? The waiter said they could. I rec'd about 2oz (if that) of sliced canned mushrooms no onions and charged an extra $16.00 for same. Are you serious. Desserts were fundraiser grade cake and cheesecake. $16 per slice. I felt defiled when I finally had to settle the tab. Plenty of other places to go. read more

Out poor server Erica was patient and congenial (thank you for putting up with us.) our food was delicious especially the add on lobster tail that one of our party had. Oh my, that was good. Tony's is a very nice restaurant for a special dinner. Great atmosphere and excellent food but yet not overly expensive. Four of us had prime rib, filet mignon, crab cake, and I had the beef tips. Everyone enjoyed dinner. The beef tips were very tender, and the brown sauce they were in was outstanding. Service was first class. I recommend Tony's for special occasions and for the time when you want an enjoyable dinner. We invited friends to join us, and they were glad that they did. read more

The food was exceptional! Veal Medallions Mandarine and Crab stuffed Walleye. Perfect appetizers of Caesar salad and steamed cherry stone clams. Beautiful softly lit romantic table by the unlit fireplace (on a rainy chilly Fall evening) and soft music. Perfect ambience. Very inattentive lackadaisical blonde waitress. She never mentioned her name. Only two couples. She left us unattended. I became uncomfortable when she argued with the other woman about returning a side. I know they can do better! read more

Diner food at fine restaurant prices. Food was poorly cooked and soaked in butter. The waiting staff is the only redeeming quality they are courteous, responsive and quick. Good food bad service. First the good: My Walleye fish stuffed with crab was fabulous and perfectly cooked. The rice was unlike any I have ever had. Who cares about rice? OMG it was savory, fragrant and delicious beyond description. My wife's veal with mandarin orange was really fabulous. This chef is and artist. So why 2 stars? The bad: Fine dining deserves fine service. We arrived at 5:30 on a Tuesday and were the only customer. The hostess seated us and twirled away without comment when we ordered water to start. I'm thinking "Oh boy, this lady thinks I'm cheap and the tip will be light" so I try to engage her when she returned with the water. I said "this place is unusual" as I gestured to the antique mining theme architecture. What's so unusual? was the response. I said I have never seen a restaurant decorated this way and I like it. Silence. She twirled away again sniffling like she had a cold. OK maybe she's sick. I hope she isn't spreading a cold to us. Another couple arrived in a few minutes and they were greeted as regulars. They were seated next to us in an empty restaurant and proceeded to talk loudly about work nonstop. Our meals were served and another woman who seemed to be the manager walked the room inquiring about the meals. Our response was very positive as stated above. That's when the trouble began. The other people had a problem with the mashed potatoes - they were different from the way they were on Sunday. The waitress was sure the potatoes were the same but she would check and disappeared in the back for 20 minutes. She returned to tell the people the potatoes were the same and the other lady made nice with the people. We were done and had our napkins on our table before the waitress disappeared in the back. When she finished with the potato people she rushed by our table to refill the waters and rushed off. She just had to attend to, schmooze with and serve a barfly that had arrived who deserved more attention than us. After another 5 minutes she returns to ask if there will be anything else. My reply was "I just want the check right now". We really thought this chef might have nice deserts but I was steamed to be sitting that unattended with my sweetheart in a fine dining establishment. read more

Just had third visit. First visit, I had the best prime rib, and one of the best meals ever. Second visit was for a group event with wonderful appetizers and drinks. Tonight, I was first disappointed that they didn't have the prime rib. Turns out, I was very happy they didn't have prime rib because I had the best filet mignon I've ever had. My husband and I come here often. The food is always delicious & we love the variety with the chef's specials. My menu favorite is the Company Special, a 6 oz filet with a jumbo lump crab cake. I initially have went to this place and on a slow night ( no one was there) our server took forever to do her job. But the food was her saving grace. Well we went in for our anniversary recently and we requested a table by the fireplace. Jean, the general manager said it fills quickly so she can't promise. We arrived on time and there were a decent amount of people there, however, all tables by the fire were vacant. We got there at 7 pm and stayed until 9:30 pm. Not because we enjoyed our meal, but because it took that long to get service, and when we did, our food was underdone, and You know, no one ever sat at those tables. So I was emailing Jean about getting a Gift certificate for my friend, and her response to me was riddled with excuses. Let me share : I am so sorry that your request was not noted in our reservation book. I continually remind the staff that notations for particular requests are extremely important. Someone dropped that ball with your request. I had no notation for your particular request. Most times when guests arrive, they will ask if something might be available in a certain dining room or perhaps near the fire. We ALWAYS try to accommodate specific requests! A reminder from you on such a very busy night would have been helpful! As far as the fireside tables, they were all requested seating's through 7:30. Those tables probably would not have been vacant until at least 9:00. What time was your reservation? Later in the evening our Tavern area did have the fewest tables, due to the fact that I had a Server go home ill at 7:00PM. I had to move 1 Server and quite a few tables in to our Main Dining Room, since that Server had to go home. Illness is something beyond our control. She was very sick and unable to work. Unfortunately, the remaining Server's had to pick up another entire station, as well as their own. That obviously can affect Service. Again, I apologize if you feel your service was not up to par. I had nothing but complements throughout the evening on the food and the service from our guests. If you feel that you must write bad reviews, so be it! It is obvious from your e-mail that there is nothing I can say or do to prevent you from doing so. We do not read from different customer service books! Unfortunately mistakes do happen and unfortunately it happened to you! What may I do for you to "fix" the situation? This month Tony's mining Company Restaurant is celebrating its 40th Anniversary! Was there with a group of 6 and was disappointed. At least 3 of the meals were cold when served. And while I appreciate quality food, the portions were ridiculously small given the price. The service was pleasant and efficient and the food was excellent. We went last night and had the Baked Brie and Tuna Tartar appetizers, and the "Company Special" (Filet Mignon and Crab Cakes) and Prime Rib dinners. As I write this I can't wait to go to the fridge and have some of the brie I couldn't finish. The filet was so tender I hardly needed to chew it, and the crab cakes were delicious. The tuna was peppered and cooked perfectly, and served with a wasabi sauce. The Prime Rib was rare (as we requested) and tender, with very little fat. Simply put, we will return! read more

Members of my family recently dined at this restaurant on a Friday evening in celebration of my Parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Two generations of adults at this event have been faithful patrons of this establishment (dining there no less than twice every year) for many decades. Our latest visits will most likely end that. First let me say that the owner/manager is a lovely person and the food was seasoned and tasted great. Those two things are not the problems. Please know that the dining room that evening was far from full, although the bar area seemed quite busy. The problems with our dining experience on that fateful Friday evening were: 1. No lights in the parking lot. My parents are older and since there was no moonlight to show the way, traversing the parking lot after dark was not safe. 2. Service= ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!! Our waitress claimed to have been working there for 7 years. After I complained to the Manager (Jean?) about the fact that my soup bowl from my appetizer, along with other dishes from other diners in our party, were never cleared prior to our entrees being served and my Mother requested a glass of wine which took more than 10 minutes to arrive at our table did the female server appear at our table and offered an apology and detailed medical excuse as to why our service was so poor. While I am sorry that she was not feeling well after her visit earlier in the day to the ER, i cannot help but wonder why she was at work at all that evening? Especially when any table that has over 7 guests is automatically charged a 17% gratuity and should certainly expect service that reflects that level of gratuity. We certainly did not have a 17% level of service experience! Perhaps since the server knew the gratuity was "guaranteed" it affected her attitude and quality of her work? 3. Cold food. As I mentioned earlier, the food was seasoned beautifully, but 7 our of nine dishes were served lukewarm, at best. No, we did not complain nor did we return anything to be heated since at that point all we wanted to do was try and make the best out of a dining situation that was far from positive. But given the cost of a dinner I think the least one could expect is food served at the proper temperature. Overall we were all completely discouraged and will most likely not patronize this restaurant any time in the near future as we wonder what future it has if situations like this are allowed to continue. I plan on directly writing to the owner/manager of this restaurant so that she may be aware of these issues even though I spoke with her the evening of our last visit and she is quite aware of my disappointment. read more

My wife and i met 2 old friends there for dinner last night. The place was old and dingy. The bartender was wearing a dirty and wrinkled shirt and he looked like he left his auto body shop to tend bar. I was served the worst prime rib that i have ever eaten in my life. It was tough and way over cooked. I ordered rare and received well. The mushroom soup was out of a can and the bluecheese on my salad was cheap and fake tasting. My wife had blackened tuna that was a low grade tough piece with hard chunks within. I had 1 beer and my wife had 1 wine and i paid 110.00 for this crap. Never again. NEVER AGAIN. read more
