I honestly should have know better when I realized no one in the shop had their natural hair showing. The damage isn't extreme but its disheartening after I trusted a salon. They also didn't give me anything special for my hydration treatment, my hair feels the same as before aside from the trim. If you don't care about your curls go right ahead and book, but if you're a curly girl, think twice. I came in for a Silk press with hydration treatment and trim. This was my first visit and I was dealing with major split ends over the past few months and know I needed a proper trim as I have been growing out a permed, pixie for about two years. Yoycelyn did the majority of my service and she was amazing!!! As a tender headed - curly girl I appreciated that she took her time sectioning, detangling, and answering my questions including how long she would leave me at the dryer. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was issues with time management. I had to wait 30 minutes to get started (I had an appointment not a walk in) with a different stylish who, after shampooing, did not section my hair when applying the hydration treatment, and, then, I was left under the dryer for 40+ minutes until I pushed the hood up on my own accord. After that, Yoycelyn took over and was a gem. However, these delays end up turning a 1hr 15 minute appointment into 3 hours. I will update my review depending on how my hair reverts. If all goes well, I would go back, but book Yoycelyn specifically!

They also agreed that what I experienced was unacceptable and informed me of other ways I could have had my voice heard. You never truly forget how someone made you feel and I feel led to leave a review here so that future clients are a least aware of how this stylist may handle mistakes. First, I wanna say that this stylist does create a comfortable environment for her clients. At my appointment, she had good music playing and was easy to talk to. She had her natural hair out, which made me feel like I was in good hands especially considering it had been years since my last press. As she was preparing to flat iron my hair, the usual flat iron she used died and she had to pull out a different one. If I remember correctly, she would typically use a black ceramic one and the day of my appointment, she used a titanium (silver babybliss) one. From what I know now, titanium irons heat faster and typically need to be handled with more care than ceramic irons. This is where everything went downhill but I didn't know it yet lol...I enjoyed my deep condition and she trimmed my hair very well. My silk press came out nicely and I thought everything was alright. An hour or so after my appointment, my scalp started to feel sore and gradually got worse as the days dragged on...Initially, I'm thinking that my scalp is sore because I haven't had my hair pressed in years and of course heat on your scalp has never been the most comfortable thing. So I put heatless curls in my head and let it be. However, a few days later I noticed that there were dark marks scattered throughout my scalp which I realized were burn marks. They were on the smaller side but it definitely hurt. It's almost worse that they were small and in several different places rather than just in one centralized location. I took pictures of the ones I could easily see and texted her via the number styleseat provided. She did not answer for a few days and I then reached out via instagram where I was able to get a response. She apologized for her delayed response and then mentioned that me reaching out days later was unfortunate, but did offer a scalp treatment on my next visit and recommended tea tree oil for my scalp. Even though I thought it was thoughtful, ultimately I let her know coming back so soon would give me anxiety. To me, it was an uncomfortable power dynamic because god forbid something else went wrong. So instead, I asked for a partial refund of $39 which was half of the $78 silk press--not including the add on services. Which I felt like was more than fair considering my scalp was burnt. She then told me she does not offer refunds for completed services and did not apologize for the damage done. I understand this policy in certain situations, however when there is actual damage (which took a while to heal btw) caused to someone, I feel like exceptions should be made. I did at least try to partially dispute it with my bank through an automated system, but failed to actually speak to someone, which obviously did not lead anywhere. Lol but you win some and you lose some. What I feel like was the most disappointing part of this experience was that not too long after our conversation, I tried to leave a review on style seat and I discovered I was blocked from booking and leaving a review. Being blocked from booking was fine because I was too traumatized to go back anyways, but now I can't even leave a review? #wereyousilentorwereyousilenced Lol I was honest, fair, and respectful anytime I communicated with her so to proactively block me from sharing my experience was extremely disheartening and unprofessional. It really is less about the money and more about how I was treated afterwards. I feel like some stylists hold their clients to standards that they don't even follow themselves. Because how was me bringing this to her attention 4 days later (the approximate time it took for my scabs to form) an issue, but she also responded to me 4 days later as well? Mind you, I had to reach out through two different communication channels to get a response...Why aren't clients given the same grace? I don't expect much to come from this especially since it was so long ago. Although, I do hope that this helps someone in the future in case this behavior is a pattern. Anyways, this is just a warning to customers that regardless of the high ratings you may see, some stylists may be suppressing reviews so just be careful!

I read extension reviews and take what people say about their experiences to heart about professionalism, hair texture, customer service and quality when they have dealt with certain hair companies. But, after speaking with Angel and determining that she was extremely professional and had a great sense of humor, I purchased hair from her. I will be honest about my experience because during the pandemic, I taught myself how to dye hair using You Tue and let's just say, there was the good, the bad and the ugly LOL. Even though I colored my multiple bundles during the pandemic, the hair did not mat, shed or tangle ever and for that I am grateful. As a result, I kept all of my hair, colors and all that I purchased from her and when I finally found someone to sew it in and or make a wig for me, all of it has stood the test of time. By that I mean, I have had hair from Tresses for almost two years now and have had several wigs and some sew-ins done. The hair has not shedded, holds color very well and I am still a loyal customer of Tresses. I also have to thank the stylists that corrected my You Tube directed colors LOL. I really really wanted this to work out. I did. I'm new to the area and when I saw the positive…read morereviews, I just KNEW I wanted to go here. But I'm not sure where these other reviewers went, but it couldn't have been the same salon! This place is AWFUL. I'm going to go into detail about what's wrong with this place. 1) Not friendly or hospitable: Zenzale (or whatever her name was, she was so secretive about it to the point where she asked me to leave the check blank so she could fill it in) was rude and brisk on the phone, and she is like that in person as well. When I arrived, I went to the front door. Instead of greeting me, she cracked the door and said "Hi, go to the other door please." And slammed it...After walking to the other door, she just opened it with no smile or introduction or anything...just loud shuffling of feet in clogs. 2.) Secretive about location: It might be because this is someone doing hair out of their HOUSE, but when I called a few days after making my appointment to find the address, I got a game of 20 questions before I got an straight answer...and not even really a straight answer. She told me she would text the address to me. Really?? 3.) License?: I don't think this lady actually has a license. It's not displayed anywhere. The "salon" is actually in an extra room in her house. I'm not one to judge that because I've had great service from salons in people's houses, but she has NO professional equipment. No barbicide, no rolling carts, no roll of shears, no set of combs...just a bunch of orange combs you can get at the Dollar Store and a chair to hold her stuff while she's doing hair. 4.) Unprofessional: Had to walk around and pick up toys and little kid's shoes before she actually got started on the hair. After shampooing, just let the excess water drip down my face and shirt before offering me a towel...she didn't even tie one around my neck to keep the water off my shirt. Just handed me a towel. 4) Doesn't know what she's doing: She has natural hair but doesn't seem to know how to style/detangle anyone else's. When I came in, I told her I brought my detangling brush (The Tangle Teezer) to help detangle. She said she would use it, but while washing, used it like a scalp massager and tangled the mess out of my hair....she also used steaming hot water. Not good for hair or scalp in these winter months, especially when I told her before starting that my scalp was dry. Immediately after shampooing, she rubbed my hair down with a towel a way that is a big no-no for naturals, instead of gently wringing it dry--- it's very obvious that it would tangle the hair. She further tangles it by mussing it with her fingers while I'm in the chair. Instead of using my detangling brush, or starting from the ends with her wide-tooth comb and working up, she very literally ripped the comb through my hair, from root to tip. I could hear my hair snapping and breaking. While two strand twisting it, she raked her finger nails through the loose sections, snatching out the tangles as she worked her way down. I'm pretty sure that I've lost most of the hair on the floor from this lazy, rough method. My scalp is sore now too. 7.) Doesn't do as requested: I clearly remember telling her over the phone before the appointment (and in the chair before she started) that I wanted a big, fluffy fro, updo or twist-out. I told her before-hand that I didn't want to keep the twists in because they look scalpy on me and I like big hair. I noticed during all this though that she kept insisting on twists. I thought it was just me. So after my twists dry I fully expect her to actually style my hair. WRONG! She says "All done!" and takes the cape off. I asked if she planned to take them down, and she offered me several excuses as to why I should leave them in, saying I'd have to get back under the dryer, that leaving them in would make a better set....then she asked if I was going home right after. I HAD PLANS THAT NIGHT. IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY. Plans= cancelled. I also asked before-hand if she could show me how much she cut off, and I told her its because some people get scissor happy. She said she would, and showed me on her finger...however, she completely turned me away from the mirror while cutting so I couldn't see what she was doing. I'm so disappointed. For the money I paid, I thought I would get such a great experience. Honestly I feel like crying. The only thing good that came out of this is the awesome smelling products she used in my hair. And also, looking at my hair now it doesn't look like she got crazy with the cutting. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO A REAL SALON

I must say, my normal slow stylist keeps me in her salon all day ( we are taking 8 hours) but my appt was at 10:30 am with Zaina and I was home before 2 pm.
