    Chashu Ramen with tonkotsu broth

Very convenient spot for late night ramen cravings in SF. Walked in around 11:30 PM on a Saturday night and had no problems getting a seat. Very no frills but quick service, and got our food quickly. Ramen really hit the spot (especially after a night of drinking)!

Wao fire ramen!!! And reasonable price!!! In SF!!! What is this!!! My friend and I found Tonton while walking around the Union Square area. Very tiny hole in the wall spot. No wait for a Tuesday afternoon. Kind & courteous staff. KARAAGE RAMEN: Complex yet light, savory broth. QQ noodles. Omg so much karaage. I would highly recommend ^_^

Decent place to stop by for food near union square. Walked in on a Sunday night for dinner and there was no wait Got the chicken katsu curry and it was decent, but nothing too special. Takoyaki was pretty decent but also nothing too special This place makes solid Japanese food but it doesn't stand out against other Japanese restaurants

A god friend of mine introduced me to this place and I was hooked. There are no vegan options besides edamame so I was skeptical. However, I also eat seafood, and ordered the seafood curry. It came with white rice and pickled red things that I love. Loved the food so much, I ordered two more orders to go. The first time my order was messed up, but the following time I ordered it was correct. I would and have been recommending this place since then. Don't change the menu!

A great find! After trying to get into 6 other restaurants without a reservation on a Sunday night at 7PM, we stumbled across Tonton and were so glad we did. The interior is a little cramped and they try and get you in and out very quickly, but the food is fantastic. One of the best tonkotsu ramen I've had in years. Well worth a visit.

Squarely in the OK, they saved us from a super long wait for the Thai restaurant next door. Decent enough looking, clean and friendly staff. We had some good and some.. meh. The tan tan ramen was pretty good but the house ramen was a little bland. We had the gyoza and those weren't bad or great. Basically the meal was good enough, just not amazing. Again, great in a pinch though because it was late and still open.

Ton ton is comfort food. While the wait can get quite long especially on Friday nights, the food is definitely worth it. My go to is the katsu curry with chicken katsu. The katsu is perfectly breaded and crispy while still being moist and juicy inside and the curry it's paired with has tons of depth and just the right amount of spice! I also really enjoy their karage appetizer :) Definitely check out Ton Ton is you are around Union Square!

Food is good. Central location. Staff is friendly. Only a handful of tables but I always have a seat.

Was hungry after a day of walking around exploring SF. Stopped here over the Thai restaurant next door. Food looked good and smelled good. Unfortunately I didn't get to try it. I waited for close to 30 minutes only to not get food. The lady forgot to put in my order. But didn't forget to enter the order of the Asian family that sat next to me after I had been waiting for 15 minutes. Once I confirmed with the lady that she never entered my order I left. Messed up to see people who come after you get all their food before you. Was it a race thing? Idk but definitely not coming here or recommend it.

I enjoyed the house ramen. I was the first customer and got my ramen first and finished my food before all the other patrons got their food. Either I ate fast or the cook was slow. Ramen was perfect for me. It had a lot of green onions woodear, bean sprouts, 3 slices of pork, and one perfect soy sauce slightly undo yok, and ramen. I nearly drank all the brothl Normally I don't drink it all. It's a tiny place with 15 to 20 seats.

Treated my mom out for dinner here. We got the chicken karaage curry over rice and a seafood noodle soup. The portions are very generous. The chicken karaage was crispy and juicy, and the curry was nicely balanced by the sprig of pickled radish on the side. We chose mild for the seafood soup and it was a nice kick (definitely more on the spicy side but it enhanced the broth well). The ladies serving us were super sweet and the food came out quickly. Very home-y feel to the place which we liked.

    Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box

We were desperately looking for a bite before a showing at the ACT theater across the street last December. Fortunately, Tonton had seating in this smaller restaurant, located almost directly across the street. For my first time here, I had their Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box, which overall was what you would expect from a Bento Box. Everything tasted fresh and portions were decent. Our waitress was polite and we were in and out in less than 30 mins. A good option for a pre or post theater showing meal.

    Do they have outdoor seating?

No, but they kept the door opened (mid Jun 2022).

Is it true that the bentos doubled in price? I came here last year and they were only $7.50 :(

It depends on the Bento box that you get and since prices have gone up in San Francisco, food prices will go up as well due to rent

Very tiny spot and not much seating, so you're either taking it to go or you're praying there's a chair and a counter that's free. No big deal since I've been to other Japanese curry places like this. I've had a mix bag where the katsu was deliciously crispy and moist on the inside and days where the meat inside is dry, even drenched in curry. Hot curry sauce is Japanese hot, so it has spices in it but not spicy at all. The workers do their best for the lunch rush, so that's a plus at least. Parked easily on the side street, walked in around 3:30 in the afternoon, no hassle. The place has an authentic Japanese cafe feel, the kind where the menu has things you don't typically find at your average sushi spot. I had my eye on the sandos, specifically the Chicken Katsu Sando, but landed on the Spicy Tuna Don instead. Good call. Spicy yellowfin tuna tartare over well-seasoned sushi rice, topped with sesame, furikake, green onions, with a little radish and cucumber on the side. The tuna was very fresh, the rice was on point. Service was quick and polite - they even have an outside window for takeout. One nice detail: a neat dollop of wasabi is pasted along the inside wall of the bowl, which is a clean way of letting you control exactly how much heat you want to mix in. Tasteful presentation, but don't let that fool you. It has a legitimate kick, so calibrate accordingly. Paired it with their Honjozo dry sake cup, which was a nice complement to the meal and exactly the right call for a mid-afternoon bite. The sandos looked great on other tables and I fully intend to go back for the Chicken Katsu Sando - and then go try the wine bar next door to it. which was pretty tempting.
