I have to admit that I wasn't sure if this was going to be a disappointment or not given the mixed reviews I had initially heard. We went on a Sunday afternoon (2.30pm) and the was a small queue for a seat. The noodle bar stayed busy most of the afternoon. Food wise the menu is quite small with a few ramen dishes taking centre stage. The name sake dish on the menu was popular as you would expect. I ordered a chilli chicken ramen, which was very tasty. The broth was rich and not too spicy. The heat came from the chicken that had been marinated with chilli. It wasn't particularly spicy so the counter has fresh homemade chilli oil for customising the heat. The yuzu lemonade was delicious. Perhaps an acquired taste though as it's a woody citrus taste. I will be back but will come for a quick snack at a quieter time.

I'll start this by admitting something, I'm not a huge fan of ramen (I know, it's criminal). So when I went to Tonkotsu I thought I'd give it another shot and....it's still not for me. I'm just not sure how a bowl of broth and noodles is worth £11, that said it had a tasty broth, noodles were well cooked, the (small amount) of pork belly melted in the mouth and I really liked the "seasoned egg". So I'm guessing if you're a ramen person, you'll probably be a happy customer. We also had crispy chicken on the side, this was a really good example and left me wishing I'd gone for the katsu curry. They also had the red rice hitachino nnest beer in, which I love. Now the food was good enough for me to go back and try some of the other bits on the menu but for one thing, I hate eating down at the bottom of Selfridges, it's crowded, hot, noisy and the lighting is truly horrible not something that will bother everyone (most?) but I'm a sensitive soul and a big fan of natural light.

That was a pleasant surprise of a meal. The Ramen named after the franchise took my fancy with the 16 hour broth and I love my 16 hour broth man! The broth was actually like a creamy porky broth of goodness that I felt it was a winter soup filling my cold heart with fiery depth. Ok, on a serious note. That was good stuff! The chicken Kare-age was crispy and added with a little soy sauce and lemon slice. Perfect. Not a five star because as much as I love my broth, I love my meat more and there was only two pieces of meat in the Ramen.

I am a big ramen fan and this place just do it really well in my opinion......the look of the food, the friendly staff, the fact it's SO fast, tasty and fresh. Tucked away in the Selfridges food hall this is going to be a regular spot for me. I visited the other day for a quick lunch after reading good reviews on here was pleased to see a small and concise menu of ramen dishes with a few other asian classic side dishes available. I went for the Tonkotsu 'special' ramen with pork coconut soup/stock and noodles, vegetables and beansprouts. The whole thing was great and served in literally 5 minutes from when I ordered due to the way that they prepare the food.....if you are looking for something really fast in town this is a great place to stop. I love the resturants ethos of if you are not making noodles that you are just serving soup.....seems fully legit....and they are serving some seriously good noodles in large potions....I could barely finish!

This new place in grand central is much bigger, currently has more staff than the bull ring store which makes he whole dinning experience a little more relaxed. I wanted the spicy pepper squid - I waited 3 rotations of the extremely long conveyer belt and unless there was someone further up from me eating all of them I don't think they made it - so I pressed the dandy little help button somebody popped out of nowhere like a ninja and within 5 minutes I was enjoying some hot fresh squid. That's the key with Yo! Sushi if you want it fresh or hot (sometimes at all) order it. As with all the grand central staff they are very friendly and helpful. The key is to see how they cope on a busy weekend. But blue Monday!!

I liked the booths and separate bar area and the nice touch of the changing light colours. I did however find it a little cold. Every couple of seats there is still and sparkling water available and buttons to call for a waiter. I found the service very efficient, which was just as well as there was almost nothing on the conveyor belt so I had order all my dishes. I really enjoyed all my dishes, but might try the large bowls of ramen or noodles next time for a change. Sadly my green tea was slow in arriving and was almost cold, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

The house special dragon roll was my favorite, prawn tempura wrapped with eel and tobiko in a nice bbq mayo sauce. The Ten Ichi ramen is the way to go to have it all. Prawn tempura, tasty fried chicken, mushrooms, wakame, naruto and tofu. Only thing missing was the half egg. Noodles were too soft soaking up the tonkatsu broth. The pork katsu ramen was average, egg breaded pork was not as crispy as the fried chicken. Side of vegetable tempura was a nice assortment of delicious veggies. Overall it was a pleasant experience in a comfortable setting. Great date spot with something for everyone.

Came here as a party of 4 and luckily had made a reservation so got a table by the window…read more For drinks got the elderflower lemonade with no ice which was a mistake as it was sickly sweet. I ended up adding fair amounts water to soften the sugary taste down a bit. However encountered better luck with the choice of our food as both starters just blew away everyone on our table. We decided to get both of the Sharing Boards and oh gosh, brilliant decision as the food was excellent! 1) Bao Bun Board: just super delicious. I liked the crispy hoisin duck more than the BBQ pulled pork, and also liked the self service aspect of this (you had to make your own Bao bun). Really appreciated that they served generous amounts of the stuffing elements for the bun and all 4 items just complemented each other. 2) Age Board: the blackened chicken and tempura cauliflower bites were amazing! As were the accompanying sauces. The duck spring rolls were okay, but definitely for our group the chicken & cauliflower won when it came to tastiness. The cauliflower bites especially just super crisp while the chicken was so moist and with just super delicious spices! We should have stopped there and ordered dessert instead next, but we didn't realize so had also ordered mains! I got the Shio Ramen; other members of our group got the Bibimbap with Shrimp; Kung Pao Chicken; and Chow Mein. Btw, if you are worried that the menu selection seems all over the place when it comes to Asian food with Japanese, Korean, Sichuan Chinese & Hong Kong being represented with the menu choices our group made, I want to reassure anyone reading this review, that the food is tightly focused and the restaurant is Pan-Asian rather than Fusion Asian cuisine, so it all tastes fairly authentic. I had a taste of the Bibimbap and it was deliciousness! I think I might have enjoyed my Shio Ramen more if I wasn't already massively full from the Entree's. However if I return back to the restaurant, I won't get this ramen menu item again - I wanted a wee bit more vegetables plus the broth was a bit too bland for my taste. I put in copious amounts of dark soy spice and chili oil to spice it up. I also don't think the taste of the semi-cured chashu pork belly as the protein in the ramen was all that great. Don't get me wrong, the pork tasted delicious, but I wanted more of the fat to be present and mix with the ramen broth and instead it was more smoky taste elements. Overall however, service was great and as mentioned previously, those two starters hit it out of the park. I'd definitely return and get those two tasting boards again! Yelp 172/ 2019
