I am a big BIG fan of wagamamas and this one was where I made my debut, when it first opened with the bull ring way back years and years ago. For those that haven't been, there are some quirks. For instance there is the bench system which makes the place more communal, the standard practice of bringing food as it comes (which can on occasion mean mains before starters or sides arrive) and also the chopsticks provided to eat (cutlery available). Wagamama is very popular restaurant. i always manage to get some good seats overtime i go in. the staff are very freindly and cheerful. The food was of good quality. Overall a great place for freinds to meet and have a bite to eat and a natter, a nice environment, lovely food but for glorified Asian fast food chain, it doesn't hurt the wallet. read more

This place saved my belly last week by being open until 11! Obviously Wagamama is a chain so it is pretty much the same at any location. This one is large and light with an open kitchen. Staff are extremely friendly and full of suggestions. I had chicken and prawn cha han donburi, which was a big comforting bowl of rice, veg, chicken and prawns. I also had the lollipop prawns which were delicious. Mainly, I was delighted that it was open so late! read more

Wagamama is one of the few chains I'll happily frequent, I was businessing and pretending I'm important in Birmingham, before lunching with my mother, because, simply, I am just the height of cool, and I decided to rope her in to japanese food again after her sushi disgust. An early lunch, the doorway was a little tatty, but other than that, everything fine, we were seated promptly, handed menus, and served by a wonderful little lady with glasses, who was charmingly friendly, cheery and eager, which was lovely. I chose the raisukaree, and the positive(?) juice, and we shared the chilli octopus, (my mother plumping for katsu and a beer) The squid arrived first, a huge portion considering it's a side, scored nicely and spiced evenly, tender, not at all chewy or rubbery, really nice. Mum's katsu came first, which she enjoyed, and I sipped on my juice of apple, carrot, blueberry and ginger, which was lovely, but why I ordered a ginger packed juice whilst eating red chilli filled food, I have no clue at all. My curry was great, I always like the sticky rice, the veg was fresh, and still had bite, and the prawns although not a huge amount of them, were cooked perfectly, and not the ones that are awkward with chopsticks. I've yet to find anyone who doesn't like this place. Ideal for large groups of friends looking to find somewhere to eat quickly. There's usually a queue but there's also a fast turnaround of people so you rarely are waiting for long. The portions are very generous and taste fantastic. I'd recommend the free green tea while you wait for your food. read more

Visited here a couple of times, and have had mostly good experiences - there was a time that we ordered takeout and then changed our mind and wanted to eat inside and our request was politely obliged. My partner has a specific order at Wagamama which is a great test to how much attention the staff pay to the customers - he has his ramen with less noodle and more broth. This specific Wagamama got it completely right. The only downside I've experienced here is a slightly long wait time, but this seems to be a common issue with many Wagamama restaurants especially in peak times. The restaurant has a nice layout, friendly cooks and wait staff, and is very clean. Always great to grab a bite if you're not in too much of a hurry, although as we know, it can be a bit pricey if you order more than just two mains. read more

Wagamama isn't a favourite place of mine. I really like the Katsu curry dish, and the dumplings/ duck gyoza's are usually fairly good. However, a lot of their other dishes aren't that great in my opinion. Service is usually somewhat lacklustre, and you're often seated far too close to other diners when there is plenty of room elsewhere- especially annoying when there aren't even separate tables and you're sitting with strangers. This arrangement of bench workshop tables is good when you're in a group however. I find their menu (especially starters) a little overpriced for what the stuff is, and would much rather head 5 minutes down the road and eat at one of the independently owned oriental places in the Chinese Quarter. read more

Went here for a quick bite to eat whilst unexpectedly in town with my son and daughter after work. I did try and persuade them to go for a balti but they out voted me. The venue is very 'cafeteria' in style: a large square room with rows of tables and lots of noise. The service is amazingly fast, which is what we needed so we could get home at a reasonable hour on a week night. We each chose something different and all of us enjoyed our meals. My chicken raisukaree was delicious- similar in flavour to Thai green curry, but I would say, tastier. We had tap water with the meal which was no problem for the staff. After our meal payment was at the table and again was quick and straightforward. All very much as you'd expect in any Wagamamas. The only negative was the toilets weren't very clean and tidy. I guess it had been a busy day but still, cleanliness is important. read more

When I am going through one of those days when I know I want some spicy oriental cuisine but cant decide on a restaurant, I always go for Wagamama (You cant go wrong). It says its a Japanese chain but really they serve a lot of Chinese and Thai too (I guess the cuisine is kind of similar) like how Pakistani restaurants serve Indian or Bangladeshi cuisine and the other way round. The menu has plenty of choice and all the food is absolutely gorgeous. I love the Ramen Noodle soup and Pad Thai noodles (nom nom) and of course the fresh juice they have (perfect for a nice lunch brunch). My favorite branches are the ones at Printworks in Manchester and London South bank (ohh the combination of Thames and Thai). The staff are usually very friendly and always happy to recommend you something you haven't tried before in the menu. But on any weekend evening this place is packed and absolutely buzzing (for obvious reasons). The restaurants are always clean and the decor is casual and simple. You share the table with a few other people most often so wouldn't say it is very private but I don't mind if I am going for a casual/ quick meal. Verdict: Delicious Food, Friendly Price and Clean Interiors. read more

The last time I visited a Wagamama was Solihull in 2007 and for some reason, I've not made it to the one in Birmingham's Bullring and so was delighted when it was offered up as an option for a night out with friends last week. I'd forgotten how much I like them! Plenty of choice, delicious, freshly cooked food, oh, and freshly made juices (one of my favourite things). The staff are friendly and it was buzzing with conversation and hungry, happy people (no doubt grateful to be in the warm on such a cold night!). Personally, I quite enjoy the informality of being sat on a bench next to people you don't know. That often brings out the best in people, as I found when my bag decided to sneak off the bench and free dive to the floor, rescued soon after by my neighbours. If you're looking for tasty Asian food and a nice, relaxed atmosphere, then it's well worth a visit! read more

Wagamama is my favourite oriental style chain restaurant, and I regularly visit the one by the Bullring, and the one in Solihull. This one is usually quite busy, and there have been times when we've been told there would be a wait to be seated. The staff here seem a bit disinterested compared to others I've visited, but the food is always excellent with quick service, and it's always clean. read more

This branch of Wagamamas is always busy but I have never had to wait long for a seat to become available on one of their canteen style tables. Menus are given whilst waiting. If you don't have much time on your hands, I would suggest coming here as the food arrives in good time - fresh and hot! I always struggle to choose a dish as there is so much choice but can recommend the Chicken and Prawn Pad Thai - so tasty and filling too :) The fruit juices make you feel super healthy - apple, blackberry and ginger is one of my fav's. I know Wagamama's is a chain, and cool people hate chains and only love things no one else has heard of, but let's be honest -- Wagamama's does what it does perfectly. If you've not been into Wagamama before, here's the drill: You come in, wait to be seated, and are seated on one of the common benches/tables combos shared by all punters. You aren't necessarily sitting uncomfortably close to people, but you are sitting closer than you would at seperate tables. Someone takes your drinks order as usual, and you look at the menu and order food, as usual. The difference is that your waiter writes down what you had on your paper placemat, and when comes time to pay, they tally it up from the placemat. Green tea is free with your meal, and there are also a selection of wines and mostly Japanese beers such as Asahi and Sapporo. The menu is Japanese, with other pan-Asian influences. The Chicken Katsu curry uses a mild Indian curry sauce, not the traditional Japanese curry recipe (but is still darn tasty!). The Bullring Wagamama's is always really busy, but the queue is never too long, because the bench style seating ultimately provides for more spaces for bums. The service here is always good, efficient, and never lingering. The other diners are an eclectic mix of tourists and Bullring shoppers, a friendly mix. The food at Wagamam's is so good, there's literally only one complaint with it, in all the times I've eaten here -- and that's that the food comes out at different times. That's how W's keeps the service so fast, and makes freshly cooked food into a fast food kitchen experience. So you can be eating your main while your dining companions are waiting for their starter. A little awkward, but the wait doesn't tend to be long enough to warrant complaints. But the food is great -- freshly prepared, great flavour combos, and the best of Japanese fifth flavour, umami, often ignored in the West, and perfected in the East. If you're out in Birmingham and want deliciously prepared food in a casual, fun dining style, W's is the place to go. read more

The prices are very attractive for a restaurant of this type and the food is spot on. The layout of the reasturant my not be desired by some people as it is benches in rows but i love this as it gives an authentic feel to it. You can be in and out within 15 minutes - which is good. If there's more than one of you, then there's a decent chance that your food will arrive at different times, especially if it's busy - which is not so good! read more

Wagamama is a fantastic restaurant chain and this branch is no different. The service is so fast, and yet the meals served are much healthier than your traditional fast food. There are meals to suit everyone, from children to meat eating adults and vegans. The food is very reasonably priced and is absolutely delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive, and even remembered my daughter's name throughout our lunch there, which made her day. There were crayons and colouring books on hand to entertain her while we waited, although the food only took about ten minutes to cook. We'll definitely be back. read more

If you haven't been yet, you don't know what you're missing out on! Chain it might be, but its the only one in Birmingham - WHY?! - Wagamama should really open at least another couple branches in the city as the Bullring branch now seems very busy almost every night of the week! The atmosphere is the same as all other Wagamama restaurants - Clean, fresh, modern. Everyone is seated on benches and this 'informal' type of seating without backrests may not be to everyone's taste or comfort (especially older people) but as it is technically 'fast food' and you tend not to sit there for hours, it doesn't seem to pose too many problems. They don't seem to take bookings either so be careful if you're planning on going as part of a big groupyou may have to be seated on several tables. The turnarounds are quite quick however and I've never had to wait very long to be seated. THE VEGETABLE KATSU CURRY RULES. Definitely. The sides are yummy but can add considerably to your bill. The Ice fruit lollies are a cheap, nice light dessert and are actually quite healthy too being made from real fruit! The Japanese beers are perfect accompaniments but the Miso Soups are nice and cheap and the Green Tea is FREE! The staff are always friendly the experience will always have you coming back for more. read more

The place is really nice and the food is amazing. The layout design is not very comfy to go on a date but good for a really big family day out! They are very clean and the staff are clean and polite. The food is served very quicky good for a lunch break can be full up in 30mins. You can also get 2 for 1 vouchers online for wagamamas and the food is well worth it but it is worth it with out the vouchers in my opinion but its always a nice voucher to have. Everytime we shop in Birmingham we look forward to visiting Wagamamas. It is a great place to go for a lunch with friends but avoid for a romantic evening as the layout will mean that you are sitting on benches very close to other diners. The food is so yummy. Our faves are the Chicken Chilli Men and the Katsu curry with the ginger cheesecake for dessert. The average price per dish is approx £8.50 but is so worth it. It is nice to sit and watch the chefs hard at work cooking every meal fresh in front of you. Because everything is cooked to order it does mean that your meals arrive at different times so be prepared for this. The menu is wide and varied, it is ideal for large groups of people as everyone will find something they want to eat, be vegetarian, intolerant to various foods or just plain fussy, however at busy times it is recommended that you book as it does get very very crowded and the layout of the tables, low benches alongside a large, narrow table means that you can get very close to your neighbour! Great to grab a quick, healthy and yummy bite to eat. There can be a large queue for a table but food usually arrives quickly, although often not at the same time as others on your table. They offer a good range of vegetarian meals and are happy to substitute/ leave out ingredients if you have special dietary requirements. As a vegan, I always request rice noodles, rather than egg noodles with my meals, which is never a problem. They also offer free green tea with your meals, which is lovely and refreshing! The Wagamama at Brindley Place is part of the chain and is similar in look and feel to all of the others. If you are looking for a great Japanese-themed restaurant with healthy choices, great fresh fruit/veg drinks and delightful tastes; this is it for you. Bench seating and the liklihood of sharing a table might not make this the choice for all but the really pleasant and helpful staff are a real plus. They are keen to help with suggestions if you have difficulty selecting yourself. Highly recommended for a pre- or post-event meal. I love the way its laid out in such a sociable manor, but no good if you were eating on your own like i was- and looking like a right lemon on the end on a massive bench!(billy no mates!) I was at Wagamama a few weeks ago with some girlfriends on the bank holiday. One of my friends had never been to Wagamama before, so we persuaded her to go just because we are massive fans and know that the food is generally pretty good right across the board. It was extremely busy when we went, but we were seated within ten minutes. We all ordered some side dishes to share and some mains. I know the food at Wagamama all comes out at different times, but when my friends main still hadn't come out nearly 20 minutes after all of the other food, we were a little concerned! Apparently there had been a problem with the ordering system and my friends meal got missed out. The waitress quickly brought it over and comped the meal, which was very kind. Thankfully my friend wasn't too bothered as she was stuffed after the side dishes anyway! read more

I like everything about this restaurant. I like the staff who are always polite, warm and welcoming. I like the tables and I like the yaki soba! I tend to go here when I get vouchers for 2 for 1 meals sent through or from a paper, although I do visit without a voucher. The food is delicious and reasonably priced at about £7 for my meal. Be careful when you are asked if you want a drink of water as they will bring out a large bottle and it ends up being nearly as much as the meal at around £3.50. They do a kids menu here and the only complaint I received was that spinach is not nice, but I am assuming if you asked they would do it without. A friend I went with once nearly choked on the ginger as we were so busy talking she did not notice she had put a folk full of pretty much all ginger pieces in her mouth!
