They restaurant in itself is small, comfy and not too gimmicky. I hate themed restaurants, they offer nothing but orientalist perceptions of what they think are cuisines and cultures. Siam Thai just concentrates on the food. It doesn't pretend to be something it is not, it simply just sells Thai food. I went for the Chicken Satay Thai style for my starter. I was hooked on chicken satay when I was in Thailand and this version of the dish did not disappoint. The peanut sauce was out of this world, it was simply perfect in its taste and texture. My main was the Kang Pet Kung, a Red curry cooked in coconut milk with red curry paste freshly prepared by blending fresh lemon grass, galangal, lesser ginger, garlic, shallots and red chilies garnished with sweet basil leaves. This intoxicated infusion was further complimented by being filled to the brim with juicy tiger prawns. It was quite simply the nicest meal I have had since I visited Thailand.

I have been here before when it was Browns, so same deal with the interior. Very interesting building with high ceilings and all kinds of cool angles. Large bar, with plenty of interesting glassware and bottled beers as well. Just the perfect lighting so it wasn't too bright or too dimly lit, great ambient setting. Service: Service was great, the gentleman behind suggested a couple of beers and also allowed me to try the two I was debating over. We also ordered food which came in a timely fashion to our table that we had upstairs. Everyone was friendly and there to help, just overall good old fashioned customer service. Atmosphere: There were quite a few people there, and a group was having a Christmas do which I thought was nice. Not loud but also not pin drop silence, you could hold a conversation comfortably without feeling like you had to quieten down your voice. Food: I ordered a vegetarian Portobello burger with chips. It was very well made and I was very impressed, fresh salad on there too and the bread was of a high quality, nothing like a normal boring burger bun you will find at the supermarket. Fluffy chips too! All of the normal condiments and vinegar are available. Drinks: I had Lawless Lager by Purity and I also had Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale by Boulevard Brewing. Both came in their own glassware which I thought was a really nice touch. The selection of beers are impressive, a lot of imported beers! I was especially impressed with the American selection of craft beers, even on tap! Definitely some great things that you can't find in to many establishments in the UK. Price: Quite reasonable, around £18 for my food as well as two beers, (craft beers may I add). Restrooms: Clean, nothing spectacular but nothing to complain about. Overall: I will definitely be coming back here again when I'm in Coventry. Good food and great drinks! I could spend all day in this place having beers! It is a rare gem in Coventry, a city with an appalling bar, dining and nightlife scene! The interior has remained the same for years but it is a large and very stylish space with seating downstairs and upstairs and an outdoor balcony with seating. There are a lot of curves in the architecture and a lot of artwork from people within the city can be found hung around the venue. Situated next to the university and art gallery, it attracts some of Coventry's few creatives. I went in last week for a coffee and a spot to sit and read. I ordered a latte which was good and fairly priced. There is a vast selection of alcohol behind the bar, you'd be hard pushed to ask for something they didn't have. The service was fantastic as always, another drawing point for this bar. However, the menu has changed quite drastically recently and unfortunately, it is not for the better. Before, a vast array of fresh dishes was displayed on a chalkboard above the bar that often changed. There was always a large selection of cakes too. Now they have substituted that for a set menu available on a double sided A4 menu. The food sounds good and I haven't heard of any complaints, I just think it is a shame and has spoilt some of the charm that this bar had bucket loads of. I still think this is a wonderful place to spend an evening or an afternoon and I was intrigued by different events they hold here. We skipped the tea and went straight for the 2 for 1 cocktails offered everyday until 6. A nice tiered presentation of assorted little sandwiches, scones and desserts eventually showed up at the table. The food was good and so was the French Martini I had. It's just too bad. I was pretty peeved given it was their decision to go for a Chinese meal from what I had said previously. They didn't have a bottle of Pinot Grigio. A pretty common wine. Pork Yuk Sunk - £7.00 Veg Singapore Chow Mein - £6.00 Sizzling Chicken Satay - £8.50 Canton Steak - £12.50 2 x Pepsi - £4.40 1 pint of Grolsch - £3.40 Bottle of Chenin Blanc - £15.50 2 x Cold sweet - £5.90 TOTAL = £70.70 Service was good. The place I visit in Redditch uses a clearer sauce, and Sichuan peppercorns and this gives it a nice edge to the spicyness. I did notice that they charged me for the wrong noodles at £8.00 per plate, as opposed to the one I actually ordered £6. As I ate the £8 one I suppose it was correct. £2 in the schemes of things ain't a big issue. As usual the place was really packed, and I thought we were lucky to get a table. I asked twice for the aircon to put on, or at least increase, as it was getting really hot. They opened the front door, but this did little to help. At one point I had to go outside to cool down. I thought that we were served pretty quickly given there were three large parties. Just to note that the portions are very good. I would return, but I'd be more emphatic about my order. ------------ First time visit, but colleagues go there a lot. Stir Fried Mussels (Green Lipped) - £6.50 Kung Po Chicken - £7.50 Mixed Veg Chow Mein - £6.00 The latter I should have specified a smaller dish. All very delicious. The restaurant wasn't too busy. Colleague constantly asked for praw cracker refills, and got them. Attentive staff, and friendly. We divided the bill, so with two pints added, it was rounded up to £26.00 each. I can't fault the experience.
