An absolute delight of a restaurant off of Lichfield's "Restaurant Block" along Bird Street, Ma Ma Thai is sure to delight even the pickiest of palates.
With decor reflecting sumptuous Siamese from the late 19th century mixed with a bit of French Rococo, Ma ma Thai's got it all going on.
The purple wallpaper with fleur de lis pattern is utterly charming. Combine that with the fountains and greenery spread all over the place once you get through the front, and you've got a Thai delight.
The food is expensive. Do not expect to spend less than £40 for two, even without alcohol. May I venture an opinion that the food is well worth the cost? Every single dish I've had here has been divine, and I've had a few (cough a dozen).
From the Thai basics such as Tom Kah Gai soup, which Siam Corner absolutely perfect, to new fusion dishes, such as the Bean curd with lemon and plum sauce, Siam Corner has made us happy every time we've dined here.
The service is usually very good, a bit standoffish, but nothing impersonal or dismissive.
We had one experience where an older woman was absolutely horrid to us, but we complained and she was promptly removed from our table.
Other than that, the service has always been spot on, and I think it's a nice touch that the wait staff wear traditional Siamese outfits. Cute to the point of kitsch! read more
