Martineau Place is seeing some much needed revitalisation with the recent addition of 3 Three's Coffee Lounge. The lounge is essentially three in one; a coffee bar, bakery, and sandwich shop.
3 Three's has taken the place of Sushi Time amongst a row of derelict shop fronts in a centre that once house a Starbucks among other national brands. Since then, a number of local independent stores have taken root. 3 Three's is providing a more higher end feel than one might expect from the area. The inside is smartly decorated with plank wood walls and red trim work, with a faux brick wallpaper at the till. The space is large enough inside, and there is ample seating amongst tables and couches.
The coffee lounge's primary focus is on providing vegan and some vegetarian items. 3 Three's has a cold case up front with vegan sandwiches and wraps ready for take-away as well as some excellent drinks. The menu otherwise includes espresso based coffee drinks, ice cream, a case full of cookies, cupcakes, and cake, and finally their vegan hot dogs. The hot dogs were my main draw here. The tofu based dogs are oversized and comes with your choice of ketchup, mustard, vegan cheese, jalapeños, onions, or salsa. I chose ketchup, mustard, cheese, and jalapeños, a very effective combination. Apparently the word has gotten out about their vegan dogs, as they had already run out of several condiments when I showed up at 3PM for a late lunch. The hot dogs use a faux meat with tofu as its base, leading to a softer texture than what other vegan/veggie dogs provide. The flavour is decent, and was accented well by the condiments and the steamed buns. It's one of the best vegan hot dogs I've found in the area, and at £3, a real steal.
I didn't get to try their coffee or other treats, but the value pricing follows there as well. A flat white will only set you back £2, a cappuccino £2.50, or a tea £1.90. Ice cream is a reasonable £1.80 for one scoop. The crowd here was of decent size, especially for a Tuesday afternoon. Ordering is done at the till, at which point you will receive a order number for your table. My vegan hot dog was prepared fresh and took about six minutes or so to make. The staff are extra friendly and even checked on me during my meal.
This level of friendly customer service and solid vegan options has earned them four stars. I can't wait to go back for another dog and try a tempting dessert. read more
