    chickpea falafel, you beauty!
    Simone R.

Since I have visited The Warehouse Café early this year in a Yelp event, my curiosity about the food just grew bigger. Luckily, as part of my new food" educational plan" where I am fully vegetarian (by choice and pure enjoyment), the chance of trying the menu just arrived this week. When I tracked down to Digbeth with my friend Melissa, occurred me that I should have booked a table. I heard it's a popular restaurant during the lunch time and I was right. We had the table but in some minutes, the place was packed. The menu at Warehouse Café is not full of option but they have exactly what I was expecting for a vegetarian restaurant. A welcoming orange juice to open my appetite and I was prepared for a starter. My choice was falafel to start because you can't go wrong with some chickpea falafel and a delicious beetroot tzatziki ( which I just found out is a Persian dish made with yogurt, very popular in Greece). Love it. Very refreshing and perfect in the summer! As main, another curious one: Bulgar salad. I think chickpea is a new hit now in my cooking! This delicious dish (in a very fair portion) got me. It reminds me quinoa salad but the combination of flavours of roast veggies and a nice touch with nachos really is something. As I am not eating any kind of bread, it was an easy option for me as well. No dessert this time but It was good to know they also sell cordials. So I brought a delicious (made in Selly Oak by Cuffufle) ginger & lemon one back home. I confess I am curious about the burgers and I may go back there for them, in some point. The service is wonderful. Everyone around are pretty nice and a smile of the face is the best business card indeed.

Situated just behind moor street station, the Warehouse Café may be overlooked by some, but is quick becoming one of the most popular vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Birmingham. Especially considering how busy it gets! I was here last night for a friend's birthday celebration. After picking up some booze (as the café is BYOB) we ventured down and, as it was after 5.30pm, we rang the doorbell and were quickly escorted upstairs. Once the whole crew had arrived, we heard the specials (which included tagliatelle with roasted vegetables and stilton burger) and spent the next few minutes deciding what to have. While my starter was a an easy choice (Port and Stilton pate), the main proved difficult. I just could not decide between tortilla filled with cheese or halloumi 'fish and chips'. In the end, the birthday girl decided for me and I got the halloumi. The pate was just as I said, Port and Stilton. For the first time, pate actually tasted as it was described! The accompanying salad and bread were perfect and I was fully satisfied, I just wish I could have had more! The 'fish and chips' was battered halloumi served with home-made potato wedges and pea puree. Again, I couldn't get enough of it and the halloumiwas a decent size. We were offered desert but I was far too full at this point to have any more but the small taste I had of the chocolate brownie was fabulous. According to my friend who had it, it was not too rich nor too sweet and went perfectly with the accompaniment. The Warehouse Café is a perfect little establishment that is one of the gems of Birmingham. On leaving the other night I booked a table for the following Friday for a special meal with my partner. And yes, you have to book! The place gets incredibly busy on the weekends, a sign of its worth and growing popularity, not only among vegans and vegetarians, but all in the community.

I have been meaning to go to the Warehouse Cafe for a while now. Thanks to our lovely and thoughtful community leader Vix, I had a chance to go. There is plenty of parking around the area which includes pay and display car parks and street parking from 70p upwards. This restaurant is a quirky and beautiful. They change the decor every month and all the pieces are on sale to the public there after. What a nice idea! In particular, I love the tree bark plant pots on the window sill. I noticed that they have a 5* food hygiene rating. 5 is the most that any establishment can score. I was really pleased to see this. I ordered the normal veggie burger with sweet potato fries. It came to my table rapidly, even though the cafe was very busy. The waiters were very attentive and polite. I also ordered the mix fresh fruit juice with ginger. The taste was stunning. The burger was tasty, it included nuts which was fab. I can't wait to go back again. I felt so confident eating food that had NO MEAT CONTAMINATION!!! Yipee.

Warehouse cafe lunch - tortilla & beans with awesome potato wedges & BYO beers!

We popped back to the Warehouse Cafe today with a friend. We shared the mezze platter and fritters which were delicious & perfect starter size. I ordered the burrito wrap ( containing refried beans) and potato wedges - it arrived with a lovely small salad too. But I was very disappointed with the filling which was barely existent. I left feeling full but mainly due to the large potato wedges which were fabulous! We shared the orange chocolate brownie for dessert but asked for no marmalade. It arrived with berry compote which was tasty but perhaps in future it is worth advising customers that the dish has changed. Great service as usual and a really enjoyable experience!

I have been going to warehouse cafe for over a year and can't believe some people still have never been here before or what they are missing out on! It was recommended to me by a friend who i assumed was just a little over enthusiastic about the place. How wrong i was. The service is first class and the the food was second to none. I can honestly say we had one of the best meals we have ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection. The staff were all friendly and very knowledgeable and coupled with the great atmosphere and fantastic food made the whole night brilliant and was a great end to my evening. We will be back!

I've visited warehouse a few times before since being cows milk intolerant for a worry free meal and tonight didn't disappoint! Had the Lebanese garlic bread special to start which came with hummus and salad and was delish. Had the trusty halloumi fish and chips- the wedges are amazing! Then the bitter chocolate dessert. I normally have the brownie but deferred and wish id stuck to the brownie (which is delicious) as the fruit on the other was a bit too spicy for me. Good times all round though and left with a food baby and very contented!

Reviewing a venue with a great reputation is always a bit of a challenge because its a little boring to just agree with everyone else and you start to pick apart the experience. This is just on a side street less than 5 minutes walk from Bullring. Into the rather random reception area and then up the stairs to and turn left. The waiter knew Vicky our community manager which meant we were already "known" food and service were excellent and I had the "fish and chips" Very tasty and I'd bring Birmingham newbies here just to show them the tip of a foodie iceberg that is eating in Birmingham

This was my first experience in a meatless restaurant. Sometimes I will pick the veggie option but this time round that was my only option! The menu is very simple, a small choice of starters, a slightly larger choice of mains and 3 dessert options. I had been eying up the halloumi fish and chips but in the end I decided to be brave and go for something I wouldn't normally choose - in this case the Lazy Dumplings. I'm glad I made that decision and ordered something out of the ordinary - I will however not order it again. There was nothing wrong with it its just apparent now it didn't blow my mind. For drinks I opted for a hazelnut latte, I usually order hazelnut flavoured coffee - hell, i keep a bottle of hazelnut syrup in my desk draw! I had a feeling this would be different though, i wasn't wrong - it wasn't sickly sweet like usual nor overpowering in the coffee. It was the nicest hazelnut coffee i've had so far. I rarely have dessert, usually the portion sizes of the mains in most places are too large anyway - but this time I thought i'd give it ago. I had an apple crumble with soy custard - and I think the trendy way of describing it is a 'deconstructed' apple crumble. You'll see from the photo I had a pile of crumble (very tasty and not coated in sugar), a pile of apple sauce (hopefully not from a jar) and the remaining third of my bowl was reserved to the soy custard (which tasted like regular custard). The actual cafe is up a narrow and steep flight of stairs, so unless I missed the lift I'm afraid its not wheelchair accessible and the loos are also down stairs and round the bend, and shared with male and female. I think I would visit again though, the staff were lovely and you can tell when someone actually cares about there work - but it's not going to be my go to place - to be honest I think i'd need to map my way there.

After already having two successful restaurants in Manchester, I was very excited about visiting Bistro 1847 after hearing only good things about it. Set in the beautiful Great Western Arcade, I thought it was strange to open a restaurant here. Especially after 6pm it is the only place open usually! But the atmosphere of the restaurant complements the peacefulness of the arcade. The interior of the Bistro is minimalistic and modern. Being someone who is allergic to Dairy and Wheat intolerant (I know!), Bistro 1847 is one of few places I don't feel weird at. The whole menu is Vegetarian, with dishes that can be adjusted to vegan or gluten free or both in my view. My and my friend were feeling fat so we both went for three courses. I had the curried Swede Cauliflower, Cashew nut butter and cinnamon cornflakes. So many flavours going on in a small parcel was a great choice. For the main I had "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside" (all dishes have these quirky little names!) which is a modern Veggie twist on fish and chips in case you hadn't guessed! I had the vegan version which had two huge pieces of smoked tofu which I really struggled to finish along with the chunky chips! I wasn't defeated and enjoyed all parts of the meal. For desert I had the "Good ol fashioned lover boy" I enjoyed it although I thought maybe the chocolate was a bit over powering as was so much going on. But the jelly was a nice compliment to the richness. The menu contains a large selection of cocktails and deserts for sharing if you and your friends are in search of lots of sweetness. This was my third visit on a Sunday since opening and has been progressively busier each time which is great to see. Bistro 1847 is a very relaxing experience and ideal place for a date or a catch up with a friend. And of course the food is amazing!

There's a large window looking on to the arcade, which is great for watching people come and go. The food was fantastic. It's a fixed price menu, at £19 for two courses, and £25 for three. There's also a pricier tasting menu - the couple sitting next to me had chosen that option, and were really enjoying it. To start, I had the puy lentils, with roasted carrot, spring onions and garlic tofu. The tofu was done as a silky sauce - I'd never had tofu prepared in that way, and I thought it was really delicious. For main course, I chose the bell pepper ragu, with polenta. Again this was superb, with the polenta served as crisp little triangles on top. Both my courses were gluten free, as well as vegan, and their menu is very clear to understand. It feels like the sort of place you can completely trust to get things right. Service was quick and friendly, and there was a nice atmosphere, with other diners just quietly enjoying their meals just as much as I was. I'll definitely be back here next time in Birmingham, and I'll look out for their restaurants in other cities too.

Located on Waterloo Street (next to Victoria Square), this venue couldn't get much more central. It was with quite a bit of excitement I popped in yesterday for a late lunch and to see if it was worthy of the hype. It's got a well designed but very minimalist feel. Think clean, fresh, open and basic. With a few different areas including a small lounge area (which can be reserved for meals), an open kitchen (so you can see your food being prepared), a large bar area with a huge beer board and a well stocked fridge of import ales and a few different areas with wooden tables, your experience will be quite different if you are eating or just grabbing a pint. I popped in just after 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. Despite the slightly later time of day (after the lunch rush), it was still pretty busy; although this could be due to the fact it's opening week. It's a little daunting at first, but I spotted some free space on a bench like communal table and dropped my stuff down before heading to the bar for a proper peruse of the selection of drinks and food. My barman (Martin) was serving a group as I approached the bar. He was talking them through the vast and interesting selection of soft drinks available which included Fritz Cola, interesting fruit juices and some of your more regular options too. As soon as it was my turn to be served, I was talked through the options avaliable to aid me in making the right choice. Martin was helpful, funny and made me feel right at home (despite not feeling quite as dressed up as the other clientele having meetings). I settled into the lounge area in the end and awaited my Pea and Pear soup. It wasn't a long wait and was well worth it. Served in a metal mug (with a spoon), my only criticism was that it didn't come with any bread. However, for £4 for the mug, I felt this was great value. The brownie I was treated too was most definitely excellent to boot. Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a rush so I couldn't stay for too long in the venue. Needless to say, I will be back soon (as I told the barman when he waved me goodbye and wished me a good day). I can't wait to try some more of the menu next time and who knows... it might get the missing star on the next visit?
