First timers of York's Bakery & it's delicious. Very cute setting on a corner, with a warm & inviting setting! The service was nice. Food took a bit, but were patient people. I ordered the hot chocolate & my boyfriend a flat white. My hot chocolate was incredible! Rich Chocolate & creamy! The food was also great with very nice presentation! Definitely take a stop here, even just for a coffee.

Costy little place with bags of charm and character located right by Birmingham New Street Station. I liked the old location of Yorks but it feels like they have really upped the quality levels for this new venture. Myself and Emma M visited this place for a late breakfast today. It's a great place to work as the WIFI is decent and the cafe is light and airy, my only warning is there are only about 6 big tables so if you want one of them you have to move pretty quickly. The rest of the seating is bar style in the window areas of the cafe...great for a quick drink but not if you want to settle with your laptop. I went for the smashed avocado or sourdough bread with chilli and lime. When my plate hit the table I was a little concerned about the portion size but the flavour and presentation more than made up for it. I decided to have a earl grey tea to accompany it which was one of the best I have ever had. it's a great touch that they give you loose leaf tea instead of bags, the flavour is intense and you get a good few cups out of the pot. I find it hard to find fault it here. Beautiful cafe, great menu and well made drinks.....spot on really!

I was a fan of the last place and despite a few moans on the grape vine I'm a fan of this place too. I absolutely adore how it looks, it's cosy and you've gotta get there early or no seat for you I imagine. The buttered eggs are as good as I remember them. They seem to be having a few teething issues with the orders going through to the kitchen but from the chatter they're trying to get that resolved because well - it's making more work for them. Conveniently there's plugs under every bench seat so if you can get a place it's a great location to work. Having this place a 2 minute walk from new street station is handy when the weathers bad but you really want those buttered eggs. I can see some new items on the menu as well as the old favourite, gotta try that Shakshuka. I think I've found one of my local favourites. Could even dash here on my early shift pattern.

News and improved. Yorks has TWO toilets.

This Yorks is quite new, however in May 16 it had a renovation to fix a lot of problems the previous new shop had. Yorks listened, and executed the complaints. It now has two toilets, which means they can have an alcohol license now sell their wonderful craft beers and wines again. They have knocked through to the unit next door, meaning they have far more covers, and a new basement. The basement also has perks such as a projector so movie nights will be back. They can also bring back jazz nights. They also have a larger kitchen, meaning they have a full food menu. Prices have been sorted, you can get a light lunch for £4, £6 for something larger, and for around £8 you can get a meal which has quite large portion sizes. They will be roasting their own coffee with a fantastic new roaster and will be operated by highly trained staff from Caravan Coffee. Their coffee will not be sold wholesale so the blends will be their own exclusive ones. They are now open 'til 10pm daily. This is now a great place to work, and they offer filter coffee where you can have refills for just £1. The former store did have problems with hygiene, mice were coming in to the building. This is now sorted, and I have to say the place looks clean. They are dog friendly which is great.

I have always been a massive supporter of Yorks Bakery Cafe back when they just had there first establishment on Newhall Street...was super sad to see it close. But fear not, they have two beautiful cafes located in hot spots in Brum, one just off Colmore Row and one on Stephenson Street, conveniently located a few minutes from New Street. Anyway, back to the gorgeous subject of the Stephenson Street's new refurbishment...the store is much bigger with more seats upstairs and even a downstairs - yay! It has an awesome New York vibe about the whole place. The menu has ever been revamped, and oh boy it does not disappoint. In a short amount of time I have quickly become obsessed with the this cafe again - from yummy breakfasts, filling dinners and delicious sweet treats this place has something for everyone. So what have a had so far I have tried the: - Posh Bean on toast - Smokey barbecue beans on sourdough with fresh herb mojo verde. Super yummy and I probably could have done with another one. Presentation was spot on! - Arabic filled break with freekah salad, pomegranate, tzatziki, hummus, leaves and tahini dressing with feta and broccoli accompanied with the yummiest fries. This dish was so delicious and full of flavour - cannot wait to have this again. - Sweet potatoes fries with garlic yoghurt aioli made for perfect snacking food! Surprised how good the portion was - definitely could have shared this! The dip was a good accompaniment - it might not be for everyone but they have a range of other sauces you can have. - Selection of yummy cakes all of excellent quality. Perfect with a cup of english breakfast tea or a refreshing pot of peppermint tea. The staff are super chilled out which makes for a fun atmosphere. What's more they have bought back their legendary Monday night jazz - starts from 7.15pm until 9pm. The place is buzzing from about 6.30pm so be sure to get there early for seats or a good spot to stand and be ready for a magical evening of some smoking hot jazz beats. It's safe to say...I love this place! Note to self - check if board games have arrived!!

Sorry guys, I don't understand the hype. I just finished my breakfast and can't believe I spent almost £11 for the food here. This place is super popular. I arrived at 10am today (Saturday) to find no tables. Luckily there was 1 table left outside. I ordered the eggs benedict and the house chai. I think this is a really attractive cafe. I wanted to sit inside. Apparently there is a downstairs level too but it was full so I didn't bother. The staff seemed quite friendly. Its in a nice central location. I really wanted to like it!! For being the "house chai" it barely had any flavouring to it. Very weak drink. I expected something stronger. My eggs benedict came out extremely fast for how busy they seemed. It was a really good looking breakfast. However, the egg yolks were solid and overcooked. My muffins were partially burned. And there was barely any hollandaise sauce. The sauce that was on my plate had formed a skin as if it had been sitting out for quite some time. Oh and they must have not dried the eggs off because my eggs and plate were very watery. The bacon was good. The presentation was great. But I wouldn't recommend this place based on my experience. If it wasn't so expensive I'd say I would give it another go. But the price and this poor breakfast turned me off Yorks completely :(

Finally got around to Yorks! I know they are known for delicious brunch, but Brandon A. and I stopped by in the evening and ordered a few Mezze plates and some hot drinks. The new, refurbished Yorks has a kind of minimalist-yet-cosy, homey vibe, with exposed brick and long, sturdy wooden tables. The staff are super friendly. The meatballs and falafel were both fantastic, but the cauliflower was a bit disappointing... it was cold, which was unexpected, and just kind of bland. The shining star of Yorks is definitely the drinks though- one of the better lattes I've had in Birmingham- nice, strong coffee! The matcha latte is a neat offering as well. Definitely a nice cosy coffee spot.

Tea haven... Or heaven! Yorks has always been well known in Birmingham with the locals for a good place that does 'OK' food but more importantly the selection of teas and cakes are not to be under estimated Situation on a ritz-esque corner of stephenson street, the bar offers great views and atmosphere with plenty of seating areas inside and outside too. My most recent visits which are becoming more regular are the cheat day Wednesday's whereby you select a drink for £3 or less and you get a slice of cake for £3 (overall £3 altogether) which is a great deal considering a drink is usually £3 average and cake is £2 average. If you're passionate for tea like me or perhaps a coffee person, Yorks has it all and would welcome you to try. So far I've had the chai latte tart as well as the passion fruit tart, so if you ever bump into those on a lucky day then be sure to try it! Would recommend.

Situated right next to New Street Station Yorks is a great stop off for travellers and shoppers alike, worth mentioning straight away that they have a really nice food selection, everything comes fresh from their kitchen downstairs. All distressed wood and metal this is a nice comfortable place (dare I say Hipster, in a good way though!), it's bigger than it looks as well, it goes back a long way and there is additional seating downstairs. You'll get a good mellow coffee here, there's a good tea selection (although I do like to see a timer with my tea ideally) and some tempting treats ready to pick at the counter (literally, grab a plate and pick your own). As I mentioned the food here is good, you'll have a really nice breakfast here and there is an interesting middle eastern vibe throughout the offering, a bit different and healthier than the average café. It's a little pricier than other places but with friendly staff, great location and good food/drink I'm not complaining. Top tips, there is always water at the end of the counter, your table number is painted onto the edge of the table and the toilet is downstairs in a little alcove by the kitchen.

I have a York's addiction. I have never had a bad meal or drink here and I visit to relax and chat with friends and also to get work done in the week. You can be as fussy/ fancy with your drink as you like and its never a problem they don't even bat an eyelid when you ask for more water in your tea pot. Fancy a new adventure? Try a Matcha latte

The brand new Yorks has chosen such a great location based just outside New street station with breakfast meals commencing at 7.30am this is a perfect spot for commuter like myself. Being a Tea Lover, I'm particularly impressed with the team menu they offer. (Yes I'll be slowly working my way down the list) On Wednesdays, they do cheat days £3 for a slice of cake and hot drink woop!! Woop! They offer FREE wifi, yes! So the décor is simple , rustic and again hipster chic :D They also offer a large range of hot food freshly prepared in their on-site kitchen, speedy service and helpful staff. I always choose a fresh bake from the counter too, their brownie and passion fruit tarty is totally Lush. Have a good day everyone, thanks a bunch for reading

Yorks bakery and cafe on Stephenson street has recently reopened after having a refurb. The store is now much bigger with a downstairs dining area as well as further room upstairs. The menu has slightly changed also. The building is worth a picture or two as its a corner entrance resembling the flat iron in NYC. It's a minute walk from grand central and very accessible being so central. The breakfast menu is great! On an recent visit I had their crushed avocado with feta on sourdough. It not only looked great but tasted great too! Not too little or not too much it was the perfect kick to get the day going. I haven't had breakfast from Yorks since they moved from Newhall st simply because the store never seemed big enough. It's one of the reasons I gave their sister store a four star rating as the laid back hangout vibe I was so accustomed to at Newhall was lost. This of course has changed with this new store as there is plenty of room and they've brought back Monday night jazz! The coffee is great and easily in the top 3 cafes in Birmingham! I'm still waiting to try their matcha coffees, they look great! If your looking for breakfast or a coffee in central Birmingham it doesn't get much better than this!

Toasted banana bread with labne, dukkah and raspberry compote - yum
    Oona M.

I've been to Yorks many times for a quick coffee or takeaway lunch but the other day I sampled their breakfast/brunch menu for the first time with a friend who was visiting from Devon. We arrived just after 7.30 and were the only people in there, although it was busier by the time we left. Yorks has recently expanded to take the unit next door and is now really spacious and tastefully fitted out. We took a seat to study the menu before ordering at the bar. Unfortunately on this occasion the card machine wasn't working so my friend had to run down to New Street to get some cash out (hence this only being a four star review). There are many delicious looking options on the menu but we both went for the toasted banana bread with labne (Greek yoghurt), dukkah and raspberry compote, with flat whites to give us our morning caffeine kick. Our breakfast arrived quickly and was delicious. The banana bread was so tasty and the creamy yoghurt, raspberry and dukkah all worked together perfectly without being too sweet. I've been trying to think of an excuse to go back for more ever since! The coffee there is also seriously good, much better than anything you'd ever get in a chain. I'll definitely be heading back to Yorks again as well as recommending it as a venue for coffee meetings to all of my work colleagues.

A firm favourite with the cities footballers and high earning business professionals, you can expect to see bottles of champagne all over the place. If you're looking for a wild drunken night with a younger crowd then this probably won't be for you unless you go on the student night which takes place on a Thursday. However if you prefer the idea of drinking with a more mature crowd in quality surroundings then it's definitely worth checking out on a Saturday night. However, having attended the upmarket Mechu on a couple of occasions for work parties, I'm happy to report it's not without its pleasures. It's a swanky bar and relatively spacious, the music from the decent DJs supplying both a mix of dance and urban cuts. The booths are good if you're in a group, but make sure you have a stacked wallet. The thing that generally puts me off - and why I'm probably not the intended audience in the first place - is the 'footballers wives' vibe it gives off. I'm not into my footie, so I wouldn't recognise the much purported cameos from Villa FC players - however, there are lots of glam, slightly orange women 'coyly' approaching the blokes in smart threads at the bar and suddenly I'm humming the tune to that Amy Winehouse tune 'F### Me Pumps' as it could have been written about this place. If you've got the cash and you want to avoid the lower-rent version that is Rococo on Broad Street, then by all means splash that cash here. I'd rather lounge about in Island Bar, thanks.

Hidden away in the charmingly historic Great Western Arcade in the centre of Birmingham, this spot is a gem--like a treasure chest full of wine, with little tasting notes as the map. The magic happens with the tasting machines, where you can try up to 40 wines by the glass--not all at once, you rascal! Want to sample a few without committing to a whole bottle? You can try sips for around £1. It's a great way to find your new favorite drop without the commitment anxiety. Plus, they have these super cool self-service Loki cards, or you can (as I did) trade your credit card for a temp. Get guidance from the lovely staff if you're overwhelmed by all the choices (I was). The selection is as diverse as it is vibrant, with wines from all over the world, and the best part? They're all served at the exact temperature the makers intended--no warm, sad wine here. Looking for sweet wines, my partner and I enjoyed an airy Gewürztraminer, a super fantastic vintage port from Warre, and a delightful coffee-noted port from Penfolds. I also sampled a yummy, peppery and full-bodied Shiraz. While I didn't try the food, the menu looks like it would be the perfect pairing with any glass you pick. Cheese boards, meat boards, olives, focaccia, you know the stuff. Whether you're an aficionado or a casual enthusiast (like me), Loki Wine is a great spot for a laid-back yet luxurious experience. So when you've picked a glass of wine you like, you can take it upstairs, sit on the seats, order a cheese or meat board (from Anderson and Hill across the way) and have a completely relaxing afternoon. Outside, it states it's "The Rep Brasserie", but the website and the voucher I purchased labelled it as Searcys (which also has a location in Selfridges in the Bullring). It seems to be one venue under two brands? Regardless of that, I had best get on with the review. So, as I mentioned, I am a bit of a demon for vouchers. I love trying new venues in Birmingham and when I spotted "Afternoon tea for 2 including Prosecco" for £18" - I knew I had to give it a try. I had tried to book a couple of times, but it had been fully booked. I managed to get a booking in for last Saturday and took friend (and fellow Yelper Jon B.). At 3pm we rocked up to the venue and I tried to get hold of my voucher to show it to the waiter. It's a bit of a black hole for data connectivity in the venue, but they do have free WiFi (which you have to register for in the venue). Once I was connected, I approached the staff to give my booking details. It seems they had lost my booking, but were still able to accommodate us. It was a bit of a shame as this place seems to be going for the classier end of the market (and how hard can it be to register a booking in the computer system?), however, we were seated within about 10 minutes and our preference for coffee was registered. Our second waiter was friendly, smiley and helpful. He immediately went to fetch our platter of calorie laden deliciousness after I showed him the voucher. I did have to ask for the Prosecco (even though it was included in the voucher), but this was dealt with, with the minimum of fuss. The coffee was tasty, hot and strong. Again, a little disappointing that we were just offered a cup rather than a pot (as per my experience at "The Club and Spa"), but it was very welcome on a rainy afternoon. Everything on the platter was spot on. We had a choice of ham and mustard, cream cheese and cucumber and salmon sandwiches. The fillings were fresh and the bread was soft and tasty (with crusts cut off, of course). The cakes were the real treat of the experience. As well as scones and a generous serving of clotted cream (although only a very small pot of jam between two), there were 6 mini cakes presently beautifully on the top of the display. A chocolate macaroon (chewy, rich and fantastic), a lemon meringue... thing (sweet, not too sour and a bit mad) and another lemon cake with funky pink frosting. I'm not a huge fan of lemon, so having two lemon cakes seemed a bit like overkill, but Jon seemed to really enjoy both of the options. During the course of the experience (we were in there for an hour and a half), we were checked on a few times but never rushed. It was a lovely way to catch up, chill out and experience the venue. I wouldn't class it is a "posh" venue (as you still get the hustle and bustle of the theatre crowd), but the cakes were good, the service was ok (if you bear in mind the lost booking) and the drinks were just what I was expecting.

The bar staff are normally pretty quick at serving you and up for a chat too whilst you wait to get served.
