Walking around 18:30 in Birmingham looking for a place to eat is no easy task, as everything in…read morethis city closes at ridiculously early hours. So this is how I found The Blue Piano... because it was the only restaurant open. From the outside, it doesn't look like a restaurant, but more like a small office or hotel. The whole entrance and first look of it was quite intimidating because it looked like a place I could not afford. But surprisingly as I scanned the menu, the prices were reasonable. The waiter was helpful and attentive. The cuisine is Southeast Asian. I ordered the jackfruit and rambutan red curry and chicken ho fun. Both dishes were delicious and well seasoned. I have no complains during my experience and time here. Every factor from the list I consider important when eating in a restaurant (food, service, price, location, décor, and other random factors depending on how I feel on my day) was checked. This is the perfect restaurant to have dinner whenever you want to impress friends or that special someone, or you just want to feel posh even though you aren't. Highly recommended.

The venue itself is a little like being in someones house and the welcome you get in similar. So friendly! I asked for a Bloody Mary and despite it not being on the menu was made it no questions asked :) After a drink we decided to share one of the two sharing platters. It consisted of some sort of savory cake, top hats and chicken satays. Everything was honestly amazing....fresh and generally spot on. The star for me was the satay sauce...it was literally perfect. Just the right amount of spice! I am 100% going back for a full meal here asap so expect a full review. This is a great find and somewhere I will definitely be taking friends to.

I sing like a strangulated skunk at best. However it was an occasion I could not get out of easily , so I opted to drink copious amounts of alcohol prior and during the proceedings and stay as far from a microphone as possible. The building looked great from the outside, and was set back from the main road, but fairly easy to find. Once inside I was suprised how elegant it all was, I expected complete tack really but it was kind of plush and cheesy yes but not in an O.T.T way ( you kind of laughed with it not at it). We were led to a side room and seated around a table. I was relieved to see the walls were thoroughly soundproofed. The pricing structure of this place is a little difficult to understand, basically you have to guaruntee a minimum food spend for the room - which varies as to the day of the week and the time. But also you then have to choose from a set menu - and there is a minumum order number for each choice. It did take us all a while in our inebriated state to get our heads round - but basically you end up with a table filled with food and everyone digs in!!! It cost us around £30 a head - with drinks but the food was exquisite, plentiful, and you have to remember we were in a private room. By the time we had finished eating and drinking we then had an hour on the karaoke system. Everyone was laughing so much by this stage that even the mic shy had a go ( yes even including me!). I am not sure I would stand in front of a room of strangers and subject them to my warblings - but for 12 of my good mates - I gave it a good go. When our time was up we could retire to a good sized lounge bar with you have guessed it more karaoke!! Not a karaoke convert - but would recommend for amusement value alone.

You'll each get a plate of rice which they'll offer to refill at a later point, and then the dishes are put on the table for everyone to dig in to. Honestly I can't think of anything that stood out as being amazing, just that it was all tasty. I would have liked more noodles though it's possible that we may have picked a menu option with rice instead of noodles which could explain it. Can't comment on drinks because I had lager which is what it is. Karaoke was pretty strange but we had fun doing it - in the main restaurant not the karaoke rooms. I probably wouldn't come here again but it was a good place to go with a big group.

I love Thai food even more now I have been to Thailand, and I have a good taste for authentic Thai cuisine. Siam Thai offers traditional Thai food for quite moderate prices. They restaurant in itself is small, comfy and not too gimmicky. I hate themed restaurants, they offer nothing but orientalist perceptions of what they think are cuisines and cultures. Siam Thai just concentrates on the food. It doesn't pretend to be something it is not, it simply just sells Thai food. I went for the Chicken Satay Thai style for my starter. I was hooked on chicken satay when I was in Thailand and this version of the dish did not disappoint. The peanut sauce was out of this world, it was simply perfect in its taste and texture. My main was the Kang Pet Kung, a Red curry cooked in coconut milk with red curry paste freshly prepared by blending fresh lemon grass, galangal, lesser ginger, garlic, shallots and red chilies garnished with sweet basil leaves. This intoxicated infusion was further complimented by being filled to the brim with juicy tiger prawns. It was quite simply the nicest meal I have had since I visited Thailand.

It seems not to seek out customers but have searching customers seek it out. I'm glad I did, well, not seek it out, but stumble across it more like. With no pretension at all my attention was entirely on the food. And the food is delicious. Lots of classic Thai dishes cooked with very fine ingredients resulting in a delicious a balanced outcome of rich, spicy yet light. With chicken Tom Yum to start and Prawn Mee Krop I was entirely satiated by the end of the meal. I have been to many restaurants proclaiming to serve authentic Thai cuisine but I think Siam overshadows them all with their food and service. Being just around the corner, I'm overjoyed I discovered it.
