    sizzling savoury brisket
    Douglas H.

I have to say, the staff here, across the board were the most caring and personable I have ever seen actually at work in a restaurant. Their level of genuine engagement and enthusiasm was more warming than the ramen. The Tantanmen Brisket ramen is embossed on the menu with 'chef's recommendation', so this N=1 must be a pretty good sample. What was remarkable about it was the brisket, which is grilled till sizzling and accented with a savoury sauce rendering it utterly delish. Also good were the kimchi, which gave the ramen dish tang, and the egg, which was nice and soft in the center so gave the broth more richness. The missing star is for the broth itself, which the menu says is "extra rich chicken broth", though it is anything but. It is barely flavored water. Extra rich chicken broth comes from simmering an actual chicken, bones and gizzards and all, until it is oily and dense, and this bears zero resemblance. But on a chilly day, the warmth of the ramen and the radiance of the staff made this a really fine lunch.

I became acquainted with the ways of Wagamama at their Leeds Trinity restaurant, the franchise had been in my blind-spot until then. Back in Brum I discovered it was one of my daughter's favourites when in town with her friends and our that son was also an officionado- where had I been?? Since then, if we can't agree on where to eat as a family, Wagamama reaches a speedy consensus. It does not disappoint, fast, tasty & plenty of choice. My recommendations: chilli squid; surendras curry with chicken, yum.

This is the coolest Wagamama I've been to, I used to visit the Birmingham Market venue which is still visually the look of when these restaurants first opened but this is so much better. The service was excellent and as soon as you walk through the door. It's got a wooden chic bar with low lit lighting where you can sit and with an open cooking area so you can see the busy chefs stirring ingredients in a hot wok. The new menu has been made simpler explaining all the types of noodle and rice dishes. I ordered my favourite Pad Tai noodle dish and a mini little white chocolate and ginger cheesecake, it was just enough to finish off the two courses and at £1.75 well worth the little mouthful. Just off the top end of New st its so convenient to pop in after shopping or with the hussle and bustle of the German a Market approaching a place to escape! Very charming noodle bar even if its a chain

What you would expect from a chain restaurant, the food was good and price was reasonable. We liked the seating arrangement, you share long tables with other diners, encouraging conversation with other people. Had a wonderful chat with a local couple on a date. A great menu at very fair prices, good service by friendly staff, ideal for a quick lunch, the menu offers something for all.

Just opened. I was put off wagamama a couple of years ago after a bad experience with a 'tea stained egg'.

The house special dragon roll was my favorite, prawn tempura wrapped with eel and tobiko in a nice bbq mayo sauce. The Ten Ichi ramen is the way to go to have it all. Prawn tempura, tasty fried chicken, mushrooms, wakame, naruto and tofu. Only thing missing was the half egg. Noodles were too soft soaking up the tonkatsu broth. The pork katsu ramen was average, egg breaded pork was not as crispy as the fried chicken. Side of vegetable tempura was a nice assortment of delicious veggies. Overall it was a pleasant experience in a comfortable setting. Great date spot with something for everyone.

My partner and I love veggie sushi and I think Wasabi do probably the best one (around here, at least) for vegetarians. With the platter you get some edamame, a seaweed salad and good selection of maki, inari,... This time I also bought some mochi whic was very tasty. I did very much enjoy the red bean paste filling (it is a different flavour, so may not be for everyone, but do give it a try ). I also purchased some vegetable noodles to heat up at home. Tip: if you are buying sushi for two (and do t mind eating leftovers) get a sushi platter! Is much more economical and you can get at least 2 main meals for two or 4 meals for two if you have other nibbles. I will definitely keep buying from wasabi, especially when I get to travel to the office since is on my way back home. See you around!
