This new place in grand central is much bigger, currently has more staff than the bull ring store which makes he whole dinning experience a little more relaxed. I wanted the spicy pepper squid - I waited 3 rotations of the extremely long conveyer belt and unless there was someone further up from me eating all of them I don't think they made it - so I pressed the dandy little help button somebody popped out of nowhere like a ninja and within 5 minutes I was enjoying some hot fresh squid. That's the key with Yo! Sushi if you want it fresh or hot (sometimes at all) order it. As with all the grand central staff they are very friendly and helpful. The key is to see how they cope on a busy weekend. But blue Monday!!

I liked the booths and separate bar area and the nice touch of the changing light colours. I did however find it a little cold. Every couple of seats there is still and sparkling water available and buttons to call for a waiter. I found the service very efficient, which was just as well as there was almost nothing on the conveyor belt so I had order all my dishes. I really enjoyed all my dishes, but might try the large bowls of ramen or noodles next time for a change. Sadly my green tea was slow in arriving and was almost cold, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Its pretty close to where the old restaurant was and the development is full of other great restaurants and eateries. Upon arrival at the resturant you are asked if you are visiting for sushi or the teppanyaki option, the sushi is set around the belt with a couple of tables located near the belt for larger groups. We took a seat and started taking a look at the many hot and cold options moving around in front of us. There is always a good selection of sushi, noodles, vegetables and tempura on offer although if there is something that you really want and you cant see on the belt, the chefs are usually more than happy to make up dishes on request for you. All of the dishes we had on this visit were fresh and well presented as always. The only way you can have sushi here is on the 'all you can eat' option, it is £12 per person and it really is amazing value given the quality of the food you get. I also really like that this is an all you can eat because if you want to take a less experienced sushi goer to the restaurant, they have a chance to try a large range of dishes and decide what they like without spending a fortune on things they are not so sure about! A reliable and great value sushi option. 100% recommended.

The selection of sushi is good in my opinion but I'm not a frequent sushi eater. We sat near the kitchen and the chef popped a huge plate of prawn tempura next to us and told us to help ourself which filled me with all of the joy!! The only negative I have is that we were kind of forgotten about as the restaurant was very busy with it being a Saturday we had to go up to the bar to ask for a glass of water and it took so long to come we just settled the bill and left. All in all it was good and the food was fresh and delicious.

One of the things I miss most about California and its spades of Japanese-Americans (and cuisine)…read moreis sushi. I mean fresh, wonderful, just-caught-in-the-Pacific-Ocean-that-day, melt-in-your-mouth-doesn't-taste-like-fish sushi and sashimi. Typically, in Los Angeles, a friend and I could order so much sushi we left looking like California Rolls, for under $20. I've yet to find a suitable replacement in the UK. But while my quest continues, I've sampled some very decent sushi, including the offerings at Shogun, a Noodle Bar and sushi restaurant in The Mailbox Centre in Birmingham. For £10 all you can eat, Shogun's sushi offerings are not to be missed. The nice thing about sushi is that its great taste fills you up and never lets you down -- but unlike Bud Light, it actually tastes good. If you're in Birmingham for a day of shopping, instead of paying a fortune for a sit-down dinner at a twee chain or opting for fast food, head over to The Mailbox, or Brindleyplace to either of Shogun's venues. If you prefer the thrills of teppanyaki, there is a 10-person grill in the Japanese semi-circle style, with the Teppanyaki chef slicing, dicing and sizzling your food in front of your eyes. Or head to the left and have a seat at the traditional ovular sushi bar, such as you'd see in Yo! Sushi or find in Japan. The food is served up and placed on small plates and sent through from the kitchen on a round conveyor belt. It then passes scintillatingly in front of customers who grab their plates of choice and commence gobbling. Unlike traditional sushi bars, where the plates are ordered by grade and priced accordingly, Shogun allows you to eat as many plates of yummy fishy-fish as you can without embarassing yourself in front of fellow diners. Fare includes traditional nigiri sushi (fish placed on top of rice or seaweed), maki sushi (rice, fish and fillings inside seaweed roll), and inari (fried bean curd cases over rice or fish), but also vegetable and prawn tempura, fried rice and a few small noodle dishes. Drinks include Asahi and Sapporo beers, the always popular with cool kids sake, and various teas and soft drinks. The food at the all-you-can-eat sushi baris definitely passable and nothing to complain about, but also nothing to write home about. The teppanyaki and a l carte sushi and sashimi are definitely of a higher quality, and priced accordingly. Still, two people could expect to eat a tasty meal for under £25. Unfortunately for Shogun, the service at their Mailbox restaurant is very poor. The younger women who work there are very polite, and the sushi chefs are always happy and chatty. Unfortunately, there are two older women there whose manner with customers is approaching abusive. When we go in, they bark at us to "sit here please!", and if we ask to be seated elsewhere, we are scowled at. Still, if grumpy but swift service doesn't bother you, have some tasty Japanese treats for a tenner. Your inner samurai will thank you.

However, the new location is much better as its now bigger and has more windows, so more cheery too:) They also have a sushi conveyor belt now. As I was going out for a Chinese meal later on that day, I didn't want the set menu, so I went for a duck salad, which was delicious! I wanted vegetable spring rolls, but they didn't have any. Luckily I'm not a vegetarian so I went for the chicken ones instead. They were great too! My total bill with two large glasses of wine was £28, which I think is quite pricey for a small meal, but I would still go back again.

My partner and I love veggie sushi and I think Wasabi do probably the best one (around here, at least) for vegetarians. With the platter you get some edamame, a seaweed salad and good selection of maki, inari,... This time I also bought some mochi whic was very tasty. I did very much enjoy the red bean paste filling (it is a different flavour, so may not be for everyone, but do give it a try ). I also purchased some vegetable noodles to heat up at home. Tip: if you are buying sushi for two (and do t mind eating leftovers) get a sushi platter! Is much more economical and you can get at least 2 main meals for two or 4 meals for two if you have other nibbles. I will definitely keep buying from wasabi, especially when I get to travel to the office since is on my way back home. See you around!

It serves contemporary Japanese cuisine and the concept aims to fuse dining with entertainment. It is part of a small international group of restaurants and this is their first UK opening outside London. I spent a couple of hours at the launch party last night (thanks to Holly J!) and my first impressions were very good. You enter through an unassuming looking gate in to a very pleasant courtyard with lots of seating and umbrellas which I am sure will a lovely place to sip a cocktail on a sunny day (if we ever get any!). The decor of the restaurant itself is smart, very sleek and everything you would expect for a high-end Japanese restaurant. The staff were extremely welcoming and we were immediately offered a drink from a selection of wine, beer or cocktails. I tried one of their signature cucumber cooler cocktails made with Langleys gin which was very refreshing and surprisingly strong! There were lots of tasty canapes on offer ranging from sushi to mini bruschettas and sweet treats like mini meringues and macarons. Having briefly sampled the food and drink here, I'm now very keen try the full menu and look forward to visiting again soon.
