I've made bibimbap at home and have always been intrigued to try the real deal. So when Julie suggested a Yelp meal at Miss Korea I knew I had to go for beef bibimbap. Miss Korea is a smart but cosy restaurant just round the corner from the Arcadian. I love the wooden walls, sleek black tables and cosy seats. Staff were really friendly and the drinks menu had a good variety of wines, beers and Korean soft drinks. Edward D and I shared a reasonably priced bottle of wine and I had a crushed pear Korean soft drink which came in the cutest can. We all shared kimchi to start, which is very tasty pickled cabbage. Nicer than it sounds. It had a good tang and was crunchy not slimy. Next we had tasty chicken gyoza which were little parcels of joy! Onto the main- beef bibimbap. I'd loved the one I made myself so had high hopes. I was not disappointed. Beautiful marinaded beef, crunchy veg and pickled cabbage on top of gorgeous sticky rice. It is topped with a raw egg which you mix in alongside a tangy slightly-spicy sauce. It such a tasty and comforting meal- I'll definitely be trying the other options such as seafood. I'll definitely be back to try both the bokumbap and the table bbq options. Thanks so much Julie for organising.

Miss Korea is tucked away in the west side of Chinatown opposite a rather convenient car park. It's in the centre of a string of modern Asian restaurants. This restaurant has been busy every time iv visited but Iv always been able to get seats within 5-10 minutes. The furniture is modern and their huge panes of window glass are street view facing. Each table has a bbq grill in the centre. They sell meat which you can bbq yourself along with vegetables. This is quite a cool experience, they bring coal to your table and drop it into the bowl underneath the grill. On this occasion I ordered Bibimbop. This a layered dish consisting of rice, vegetables, tofu and a raw cracked egg on top. The stone bowl is hot so everything inside starts to cook immediately. You can add chilli/spiced sauce to your liking and then mix it all up with your chopsticks. The rice goes crispy at the bottom and the egg coats the vegetables and cooks at the same time. It's a great tasting dish and I would highly recommend it for its uniqueness and experience alone. If your looking for authentic Korean food at a great place this hidden little secret is a great option!

Fried Spicy Squid. Got a kick to it but incredibly fragrant and not at all chewy

Since January I've tried to be a bit more adventurous with my food - in all honesty I'm a little bit fussy (only a little bit) and Southside has become a favourite as of late with its vast array of eastern cuisines. Today it was time for a catch up and a natter with a good friend. We rarely ever pre-organise where we're going to eat, it's pretty much a case of walking round and picking somewhere that looks good. Today Miss Korea grabbed our attention. Located opposite the Arcadian Car Park, it's a very cosy little restaurant with wood effects and rather comfy seats. You're immediately greeted when you walk through the door by friendly staff who are attentive but don't bother you. As it was lunch and we didn't want too much so we opted for the lunch time special which is £8.50. With that you can choose from a selection of dishes with a side of miso soup. As I was feeling adventurous I opted for the Ojing Uh Bokum (Fried Spicy Squid) which came with a side of rice. I'm a big fan of calamari but this was very different. Ever so slightly fried, not fatty or greasy. What surprised me as well was that it wasn't chewy and was in-fact rather fragrant. The dish had a bit of a kick to it but nothing drastic - just right. For the price (and in fact I would have paid more) it was fantastic. Miss Korea is Korean BBQ and I think I'll be back when we have more time to try it out. The only downside, like many of the restaurants in Southside, is that they don't accept card, and I never carry cash. Not a major issue though as there is a cashpoint one minute away by the Tesco Express. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Well I've no idea how someone would only give a one star review-this place was fantastic-glad I trusted my friend Julie's judgement! Having walked past a few weeks ago and thinking it looked like an interesting place to go, I was really excited when Julie arranged an unofficial yelp event (with Vicky being away) and it didn't disappoint! The restaurant is very simply decorated wood panel with simple wood lamp shades, dark tables and comfortable soft brown chairs. No other art work or adornments, but it didn't need it. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, which was good as most of us had never been before. Despite not eating seafood there was still a massive choice of things to eat -it took a while to decide. We had chicken gyoza to start which were delicious! I chose spicy Pork with vegetables and rice as my main-Nom Nom! Korean dishes seem to have different spices to the Chinese and Japanese food I've had before and it was a really nice change:) starters were between £1-8 and mains around £7/8. The red wine I drank was delicious too! We didn't look at deserts as we were too full! We would all go back again-to try the barbecue in the centre of the table-it looked so good!!

It's okay, not as good as I expected.

To be honest, I'm so disappointed. I went to Korean before and I know the authentic Korean taste. While dishes sold in this restaurant is definitely not authentic. It's a shame.

Chicken Gyoza. Theirs is the best I had so far!

I ordered the bibimbap, my favourite dish which I order at every Korean restaurant I go to and found it to be not great. The egg was fried which I don't like, I prefer the raw yolk much more tasty and authentic, I'm not sure why they didn't have that as almost all the other restaurants I've been to in the UK did. The portion was very small and the price was high. I had been to Miss Korea, also in Birmingham only 5 mins walk away from here which was fantastic, much more authentic and tasty, cheaper with better serving sizes. The service was mediocre, I had to remind them of things as they they forgot to bring foods I ordered, and didn't bring water for ages after I asked and had to remind them for that as well. The atmosphere is casual, similar to a cafe and an upside is that they give you a 10% discount if you pay by cash. The kimchi tasted pretty good too, despite the very disappointing bibimbap.

Slightly surprised by my order of dolsat bimbimbap, which was a tiny portion and didn't have the usual fried egg. Nevertheless, not disappointed in the quality or taste. Worth coming back to for the BBQ!

Came here as a party of 4 and luckily had made a reservation so got a table by the window…read more For drinks got the elderflower lemonade with no ice which was a mistake as it was sickly sweet. I ended up adding fair amounts water to soften the sugary taste down a bit. However encountered better luck with the choice of our food as both starters just blew away everyone on our table. We decided to get both of the Sharing Boards and oh gosh, brilliant decision as the food was excellent! 1) Bao Bun Board: just super delicious. I liked the crispy hoisin duck more than the BBQ pulled pork, and also liked the self service aspect of this (you had to make your own Bao bun). Really appreciated that they served generous amounts of the stuffing elements for the bun and all 4 items just complemented each other. 2) Age Board: the blackened chicken and tempura cauliflower bites were amazing! As were the accompanying sauces. The duck spring rolls were okay, but definitely for our group the chicken & cauliflower won when it came to tastiness. The cauliflower bites especially just super crisp while the chicken was so moist and with just super delicious spices! We should have stopped there and ordered dessert instead next, but we didn't realize so had also ordered mains! I got the Shio Ramen; other members of our group got the Bibimbap with Shrimp; Kung Pao Chicken; and Chow Mein. Btw, if you are worried that the menu selection seems all over the place when it comes to Asian food with Japanese, Korean, Sichuan Chinese & Hong Kong being represented with the menu choices our group made, I want to reassure anyone reading this review, that the food is tightly focused and the restaurant is Pan-Asian rather than Fusion Asian cuisine, so it all tastes fairly authentic. I had a taste of the Bibimbap and it was deliciousness! I think I might have enjoyed my Shio Ramen more if I wasn't already massively full from the Entree's. However if I return back to the restaurant, I won't get this ramen menu item again - I wanted a wee bit more vegetables plus the broth was a bit too bland for my taste. I put in copious amounts of dark soy spice and chili oil to spice it up. I also don't think the taste of the semi-cured chashu pork belly as the protein in the ramen was all that great. Don't get me wrong, the pork tasted delicious, but I wanted more of the fat to be present and mix with the ramen broth and instead it was more smoky taste elements. Overall however, service was great and as mentioned previously, those two starters hit it out of the park. I'd definitely return and get those two tasting boards again! Yelp 172/ 2019
