After having so much bad luck with cars i finally found the rite one. The customer service from Manuel a Spanish speaking representative was more than extraordinary. As a Hispanic family everyone decided to join on the hunt for a new car and he was very helpful. Going out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. Made everything go by fast and smoothly. As a plus we received a call a few days later asking to us to come in to sign new paperwork, they had found a New Finance provider that lowered our interest and total cost. I purchased a 1 year old used vehicle from Tonkin Honda in 2017. When I initial purchased the vehicle, three days after it smelled extremely bad like cigarette smoke. I was not told that the previous owner was a smoker, who smoked in the vehicle. On February 9,2021, I took my truck into a Dodge Dealership to get my truck fixed, which would have been under Manufacturer's warranty as well as the Extended Warranty I purchased. When I took it to a Dodge Dealership, I was notified that the Vehicle was a Canadian truck and was still covered under the Manufacturing warranty. However, because it's a Canadian truck, the Manufacturing warranty doesn't apply to the United States. They also informed me that the Extended warranty was the wrong type of contract. The sale of a vehicle from out of the country, without disclosing to the customer is a violation of the Unlawful Trades Act. I have contacted the Attorney General's office and I will file a formal complaint with them as well. After a day, Tonkin Honda did fix the extended warranty , I feel like they sold me a vehicle under the guise of an american vehicle that still had a valid manufacturing warranty. Had I known that the manufacturing warranty was no good and that the previous person smoked in the vehicle, I would not have purchased this vehicle. While the Warranty was getting corrected, i was out of a vehicle. I asked if they would provide me a loner while this was being handled and was told no. The General Manager of Sales said that a loner is available through your warranty.... that's nice, a warranty that currently isn't a valid contract and one which they were disputing. On top of all this, if you try to type a negative review on their web-page, it will not submit unless you mark Happy. How convenient. read more

Bring a calculator and know your credit score before you go in. The maths may not actually add up and it's possible your credit score won't be accurate. Hold your ground if you are not ready to buy and are just shopping. We felt taken advantage of and disrespected. We went to a Tonkin dealership because we love civics and we had seen the license plate frames all over and decided to start there in our search for a new civic. Maybe we got an overly aggressive salesperson but we were not happy. We went in to do research and were honest with the sales person that we were just shopping. We left feeling like someone had just tried to rob us. We knew our credit scores and the scores Tonkin pulled were not even close. As for the payments, even with the interest rate we were quoted, the payments would be ridiculous and higher than they should be for the length of the loan and interest rate we were quoted (we actually did the math and someone there needs to take a math class). When we told them we weren't comfortable with the payments being as high as they were, we were essentially cornered by the salesperson and their We manager and were reprimanded for wasting their time. They even tried to guilt us by mentioning "you know, this is how we pay our bills." You're right, and this is going to be one of our bills that we have to pay every month and we aren't comfortable with $600 monthly payments. Not good customer service. It was clear to us, all that mattered to them was unloading a car onto some seemingly stupid customers. Too bad. Because we went elsewhere for our new Honda and got a great deal, REASONABLE payments, an HONEST interest rate, and had a great customer service experience. I kind of dread the used car experience I remember with my parents when I was a kid. I did my research online before I visited the dealership. Had a specific used 2015 Honda Civic in mind, already got pre-approval for the loan from my credit union. Haven't purchased a vehicle in over 10 years, and was pleasantly surprised by the transparency and ease of purchase. Manny was an excellent resource - I'm not too mechanically inclined, so I didn't have too many questions about the performance of the vehicle. We went on a pleasant test drive. I was a little unsure of purchasing the first vehicle I test drove, but it was a certified used vehicle at an excellent price. It had been purchased and serviced at the dealership. The carfax was available online, and Manny also offered me a copy. The internet price was about $1500 less than the sticker price on the lot. No haggling needed. The Sales Manager introduced himself and was very friendly as well. Manny did offer me the extended warranty and gap insurance, but backed off as soon as I turned it down. No pressure. The finance guy was a different story. He was very friendly at first. Though I had financing arranged through my credit union in advance, he still tried to go over the payment options with me and sell me the extended warranty (again) and other options. The price of the warranty went from over $3000 to about $1250 after I declined the first time. Same with the other options (good tip to keep in mind if you do want the extras!). He tried to make me feel like I was making an irresponsible decision by not purchasing the extended warranty, even though my purchase was based on Honda's reputation. I would suppose this guy uses individualized sales techniques based on the customer. I'm a CPA, so I am comfortable with financial decisions and carefully weighed my options before going to the dealership. Probably not the best person to sell extras to. I work hard for my money, and I'm a bit thrifty in my spending. My old car is 14 years old, and I plan on keeping this one for just as long. The finance guy became curt and unfriendly after I turned down the extras a couple times, and made me feel like I was an inconvenience. I understand how commissions and spiffs work, so coming in with outside financing was probably not making this guy much on the sale. He seemed glad to get me out of his office. I do understand that this is his job to sell me extras. I did not trade in my old car as it was going to a family member, so I thought I'd have to get a ride back to pick up the new car. Manny, the salesperson, was kind enough to drive the car from Gresham to my home in SW Portland. He would have hit rush hour traffic heading back to the dealership. Came to this dealer because they had a 2017 SUV advertised with the options I wanted. I called and they said I could come test drive it. Showed up and I immediately noticed the sticker price was $2500 higher than it was advertised online. Mentioned to the salesman and he said he couldn't offer me the lower online price. I knew that was illegal but decided to wait on that argument until after the test drive. I liked the car and after the test drive decided to purchase it. Started the paperwork and they tried to sell it to me for the higher price. I told them no - and that I work in the finance industry and that it's illegal to change the sale price. I had a screenshot of the online price and the VIN. After lots of arguing they eventually honored the lower price after I started to leave. Took the car back to the dealer for the window tinting. Said they would have a rental car ready but instead called enterprise and they came and picked me up and the whole process took about 2 hours. I was late for work because of this. Honda called me at the end of that day and said they didn't do my windows because they looked up my name in the system and didn't realize I had dropped off my car?!? The service clerk apologized and said they would send a manager to my house the following morning to pick up my car and to drop off a loaner - never happened. They eventually came to my work and a nice service tech picked it up and had the windows tinted in an hour and dropped my car back off at work. I've had the car for a couple of months now and called today to schedule a service as the vehicle has been pulling to the left. Steve said that the Honda warranty doesn't cover the service I need - when in fact the Honda warranty clearly states that it does cover alignments - and I have actually had the car serviced at their sister dealership and was charged $0 since it was warranty work. This dealership took the fun out of buying a brand new car. From the sales tactics, the bait and switch, and series of fails in their service department. I've had three Honda's and I have never had such a horrible experience with a dealership. It really doesn't encourage me to give good referrals when it feels like this dealership has screwed me over at every transaction. read more

Went to test drive a used Honda Pilot that was on the website after being at Ron Tonkin Honda on 122nd. The salesman Josh was rude and unprofessional! Told us that he was going to do all the work while a salesman from the 122nd store would get all the credit and pay. We asked if the used pilot was Honda certified and the salesman replied curtly that it wasn't and he'd have to charge $2500 more if it was. We took the vehicle on a test drive. The salesman hardly spoke to us. When we returned and got out of the car, the salesman asked if I had any questions. I responded no then he simply said ok, turned around and left. My brother ended up getting screwed on a 2011 acura tsx wagon that we were told was awd, but later i find out that its only front wheel drive.Not to mention my brother is paying 9000 dollars in interest and useless warranties for a 16000 dollar used car. I called numerous times cause i was unhappy about them misrepresenting a car but they just ignored us cause they dont give a shit. I cant even tell the whole story cause you cant go over a certain number of characters.I see they deleted his google review. So we bought a used Durango from them, sales people we dealt with that night were super helpful and great to work with. They didn't seem pushy like others have posted, but I bet there are some there like that. So we got the rig and I noted the tranny cooler was leaking and I stated I would like it fixed so we left it with them that night. Went and picked it up the following night and I saw that they just cleaned up the fluid mess but nothing seemed to be replace, could have been an oring so I gave took there word that it was fixed. Well drove it home to molalla and the tranny temp light came on and was way over heated and wouldn't shift. So dealing with that was a joy the first night, they are looking into the problem today and we will see how that goes. Now onto why I gave them one star. After dropping it off to be checked out and worked on I get a call about an hour later from a sale guy named Ben, he accused us of steeling his IPhone the night before and said it was tracked to my address and they had video of us. Told him I knew nothing about it and he continued with he was sending the cops to my address. Was told that his sales buddy's saw me back by where they work and hang out. I was fired up and called back to talk to a manager but no one was conveniently available. I then received a call back shortly from Ben saying he was sorry and he was given some bad information and that's all he would say. So I buy car, have major problems with it less then 2 hours after getting it and then accused of stealing an iPhone and threatened with the cops and all I get was a sorry about that. That was absolutely ridiculous. Something needs to be done to make it right. read more

Monday night past 6pm I heard a screeching sound coming from my front driver side wheel. I called Tonkin Gresham Honda service, and was helped by Bruce Wagstaff. Although they already closed at 6pm, he said he would gladly stay late to wait for me to arrive. Bruce put my Pilot on the raised platform and took the wheel off and out popped a rock that was stuck and grinding on the rotor. $0.00 charge and I was on my way. Had the 'check engine' light come on my 2013 Pilot while on Hwy 14 West near Cascade Locks the day after Christmas. I called the Dick Hannah in Vancouver since I live near there and they could fit me in that day and offered to "help me find" a ride home with Lyft if they needed to keep my rig overnight. Further along, it was driving really bad and the light started blinking which meant I needed to pull over and have it towed. But since I was right outside Troutdale, I called Tonkin Gresham Honda and they could take a look right away. Turns out it wasn't shifting past 3rd gear and although most of the work was covered under warranty (I did request other service like change the timing belt), they still offered me a loaner right off the bat and sent me home in less than an hour. Due to the holidays, parts took a while to arrive but Jamie was super good about keeping me informed every step of the way. In fact, they said I could get my rig around 4pm on New Year's Eve but I wasn't able to make it due to other plans and they didn't even blink an eye to extend my use of the loaner two more days (they were closed on New Year's Day). I will go see them for sure when I am ready to trade in my Pilot. read more

The price was $20 higher than a couple independent repair shops that I got quotes from but I thought it best to hire the service of dedicated Honda mechanics for this. The tech spent about 90 minutes inspecting the car as was promised. The report was excellent and I made an offer post inspection. I had a good experience with the internet sales team. They were prompt in messaging me back but didn't go overboard with e-mails, phone calls, messenger pigeons, or whatever the latest tactics are. After driving the used vehicle I was there to look at the negotiation process started. They were flexible but also stern. This is probably pretty typical as they are trying to protect their margins. After we agreed on a price and shook hands we got to work with the finance manager. He was definitely the most experienced in customer service out of anyone we interacted with. Then I found a car that matched my first choice color immediately available with another Portland dealer, but the dealer said they didn't see it in the inventory. I pinged the folks here to get the car - within 24 hours we completed everything and I drove home. Eddie E was very professional and offered a very good warranty package at a good price. Andre O traced the car very quickly and even gave me a ride from train station. Pretty satisfied overall with their transparency and speed. Price and loan rate were decent. Slight overage on the accessories perhaps, but I didn't mind because I got the trim/color I wanted in the time I needed it in. read more

I don't recommend this location for buying a car. About two years ago, I had bought my car from this location and had a great buying experience! When I went back on Friday to look into buying another car while I had my oil changed, I was greeted by a different salesman then I had the first time. His name was Scott Wildman. At first he was very nice and funny. He went into depth about all the features of the car, and demonstrated what everything did. When we got back to the dealership and began talking numbers, it became incredibly high pressure, which is not something I appreciated whatsoever. I had explained initially that I was doing research, and trying to decide what I car I wanted, and that I wasn't looking to buy just then. For whatever reason, that idea could not get through his head. I told him I didn't want to buy, and wanted to go back and talk to my parents about the car, but he kept trying to sway me into buying the car. He tried to tell me that I didn't need my parents, and seemed like I had already done all my research, etc. He printed out a sheet with the pricing, and tried to get me to sign it, but he wouldn't tell me what signing it would do. He just kept pressuring me to sign it. Each time I asked about why I should sign the paper, he would not answer the question. Eventually, he took the paper away, and went and brought his manager over. His manager was even worse. He continued to pressure me into buying the car, also saying that I didn't need my parents, and that I should just do it. He tried to tell me that I would lose out on the car, because it would be gone by Monday, which isn't something I really cared about. I ended up telling them that I was late for dinner with my family, so that I could escape the situation. I will never go back to buy another car from that location. My experience was so bad, that I excluded the car I was looking at from the list of cars that I was looking at. Update: The salesman that I was dealing with called and left a voicemail saying that I should remove his name off the Yelp review, because I "asked for a salesman and got [him]" However, I don't think that's fair to people that are spending thousands, and thousands on new cars. This should be a lesson learned as to treat customers a little more respectful. read more

My 24 yr old daughter gets her oil changes here. A few weeks after her last oil change car leaking oil bad. She takes it in to service dept on 12/16 They charged her 130.00 and gave an un complete list of where all the leaks were coming from. While she was there I spoke with the service advisor . He said they would have to start at the top of engine replace valve cover gasket so I said what front engine seal ? rear engine Seal ? He did not know. They added 3 qt's oil. I called the general manager. I said I would expect a complete list for that much money and my daughter was between jobs. Could you please refund some or all the money.He said no. He would have the svc manager call me. I received no call !!!. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SVC. And Diagnostic Detail. Very Greedy..I guess this was Merry Christmas to my Daughter who was down on her luck. I needed a new-to-me car, and was basically looking for a used Honda Fit. I had initially contacted CarMax, but wanted other options, so I came to Tonkin Gresham Honda after calling for an appointment. Prices were comparable, and Tonkin would provide me with a new car. The test drive was great. The first salesman was great. I was really leaning toward buying with Tonkin. Then my original salesman had to leave, and he passed me over to another salesman. I explained that I didn't like the color, and asked whether they provide a comparable car in a different color. Yes, they could! Tonkin was going to make me happy! Then the salesman started badmouthing CarMax. He told me how bad their customer service was, and how bad their ratings were, and how they couldn't be trusted. Well, I had bought my last two cars from CarMax, so he was essentially telling me I was stupid. I kept my mouth shut, because I had a test drive appointment at CarMax the next day. Nothing but 100% professionalism at CarMax (as always), everything was streamlined, I got to test drive a couple of cars, and sit in several others, and made my purchase with them. Did a road trip from Los Angeles to Victoria Canada for 8 days. Before heading to United states border my tire sensor came on. Put air on the tire 4 times from Vancouver, Seattle and twice here in Oregon. Had the vehicle towed to the nearest tire shop but to no avail. Every tire shop in Gresham I've been to were all packed. All locals are expecting a heavy snow. Went to Tokin Honda 18 mins away from Gresham Honda but also to no avail. They were also packed. Finally found Gresham Honda on Google. Spoke to Mike Hebert in service. Explain to him my situation that I'm still long way from home which is 14 more hours drive. With no hesitation he took me right in and only waited less than an hour. My daughter bought a 2018 Accord today from Tonkin Gresham Honda. She had done her research and new what she wanted when she went so the sales experience was fine. She had a quote in hand from another dealership that they agreed to match. It was once she got into the "finance" office that things turned wonky. She now had to pay for floor mats that had been part of the agreed upon price. $600! Seriously? So the price match wasn't really a price match at all if they are charging for accessories that were clearly included with quote we brought in from the other dealer. Then, they quoted her a ridiculous 15%+ interest rate, But somehow then found a promotional rate at 5.49%. That brought her payment to an amount she could handle. What was NEVER explained was that they had also added a $3,000 optional service contract to her total financed. It wasn't til we got home that we realized what had happened after we clearly stated we did not want it. So back we went to the dealership and signed a form to cancel the OPTIONAL service contract. Supposedly, it will be reduced from the original principal amount loaned. If your a cash buyer or have outside financing you should be in good hands. I would never finance with Tonkin again. And they shouldn't advertise they price match when they won't!! read more

So I went with a friend today to look at a used car, he has very little car buying experience and I have a lot so I was hoping to lend a helping hand. The sales person that was helping us was very friendly, at first. My friend said no less than 3 times before we even took the car for a test drive that he would not be driving a car home today because he wanted to drive the same car but brand new (this was not a Honda that we were looking at). Got back from the test drive and of course they want to make the sale so we talked some numbers, the price was alright but my friend really wanted check out the new one still as he's never purchased a brand new car. After the normal hassle and haggle our sales guy was getting quite grumpy that my friend wouldn't purchase the car today, he wanted forms signed and to send us out with that car badly, they did seem eager to continue dropping the price but when you are looking at a 1 yr old car with twice the mileage it should have, of course they want to get it off the lot. Long story short by the time we left the salesman was getting to the point of being rude about this transaction. So let me start off by saying I brought my leased 2012 Honda Civic in for servicing around July 2015. Great and timely service! Excellent customer service. Now mind you, this is the Servicing Center we are talking about. Did not anticipate what would happen in the near future. My lease was due to mature October 2nd 2015. Around August 1st, I called Tonkin Gresham Honda and ask the receptionist who answered to please transfer me to somebody who can help me make an appointment to turn my leased vehicle in. At this time, she stated she was unsure who to have me speak to. She then placed me on hold. When she returned, she said she would take a message and have the person responsible return my call. Point blank, I never received a call back. A few days later, I called again. A receptionist did the exact same thing by taking a message and informing me somebody would call back. Once again, no one returned my call. Third time's the charm; she was able to transfer me to somebody by the name of Jesse. Jesse acted like a friendly person on the phone. I explained to him my individual situation regarding my lease and that it's due to mature 10/2/15. I also made it very clear to him that the reason I am turning it in is because I inherited a vehicle that was completely paid off. I am 100% sure I made him aware I was definitely not interested in getting into another lease/sale with honda. After Jesse verbalized understanding, we finalized a date that worked with mine and his schedule. I am a health care provider and I am on call 24/7 in an OBGYN practice and this was a specific date (only date)I could gauranteed. We agreed on Sept 27 and made an appointment for a lease turn in with Jesse. Beginning of September approached and being a first time leaser, I had a few more questions to run by Jesse prior to our appointment. I called 5 times within a 3 wk period; not once did I recieve a call back until finally I complained and spoke to a manager. I was finally transferred to Jesse, who answered my questions and prepared me further for the material I needed for the lease return. Sept 27th finally approached. Having had this appt now since beginning of August, I figured this would be pretty easy. I showed up with my boyfriend and was greeted by a man. I informed him that I had an appt with Jesse for a lease turn in. After looking at me with a curious look, he had me wait in the lobby and brought over a manager named Jeff. Jeff asked how he could help me. I explained once again to him my appt and the reason for my visit. At this time, Jeff looked at me with the same confused face. How dare I be here to turn in a leased vehicle! ! Anyways, he attempted to explain to me that he knows absolutely nothing about leases and the people who usually handle them are not here today because they don't work weekends. He then further interpreted to me that Jesse is a salesman and does not deal with leases. He made me aware Jesse was NOT EVEN IN! HE WAS OFF THAT DAY! Really! I had this appt for 2 months! And even called to confirm! At this point, I got a bit pissed off (because who wouldn't after all of the poor service and bad communication that obviously happens here at this car dealership). Jeff stood in front of me pretty much telling me there was nothing he could do for me. Not to mention, he was literally chuckling in my face (probably out of complete embarrassment; or maybe it was his way of coping with discomfort). The laughing was very offensive; especially considering I planned this 2 months in advanced taking into consideration the incredibly difficult schedule I have. I left enraged and called other Hondas in the area. I found another Honda; Ron Tonkin Honda on 122nd and Stark. Over the phone, I explained the situation to the manager Jason. He couldn't believe all I had went through. They told me to come by and they would help me. They did in fact honor their word and I was in and out within 20 minutes! I advise never to go to this honda dealership. They are rude and have absolutely no consideration of other people. read more

We hagled on pricing then the manager came over and we informed him as well that we didn't want a credit report ran as we were in the process of buying a house and didn't want the hard hit on our report. We purchased the car (cash) and a few days later we get a call from the bank on the house asking if we had purchased a new car and didn't disclose it. We found out the dealer went ahead and ran a report anyway. I went to the dealer the next day to talk to them and no manager even though they were right there would talk to me. After 15 minutes I left. Beware if you go to buy a car here that when you fill out paperwork they will most likely run a credit report. i wouldn't go back to this dealer on a dare as I don't do well with dishonesty. i hope the new owners do a bit of housecleaning. read more

So we stopped in to check out the boilers. Pilots in particular. There was only one we had the berries for but they don't really like cash, or so it seemed. We bumped gums a damn long time with Jeff but he wanted to play the go to daddy game and feed us the bunk. You know how car dealers are in the city, all cut from the same cloth. Jeff wasted a lot of our time and finally brought out some greaser who called himself the boss. The so called boss of bosses ran his mouth a lot and when I asked him to put his words in writing he refused. What's wrong with this picture? Looked like gyp written all over the whole deal. I was comparing my last Accord lease to this new one. This one was $30 more, but I was okay with the price because there are some good differences between the 2015 and the 2018. While I was signing papers, I realized that it didn't include maintenance like my last lease. I was super-bummed that I negotiated a "good deal," but I was so over being there (I was there 5+ hours, and visited 2 days in a row), that I just went with it. Now I feel "duped." Also, I leased it in October, when the 2019 models should've been out already or coming out soon, so the 2018 should've been cheaper. I love the car, just think I'm paying too much since maintenance wasn't in there. I was also lied to because my salesman said it didn't come in obsidian blue pearl, which it did. I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 though because my experience wasn't entirely bad, and Accords are CHEAP to lease for the car you're getting. I just felt like I could've gotten a much better deal and I'm still disappointed about that, and I will be every time I have to pay for an oil change or tire rotation. In 3 years I'll know even better what to ask for. read more

We came in here as the staff seemed friendly. We came back only to be caught up in a string of bait and switch techniques. They basically hid the car we were looking for saying it "sold" in the hour and a half we went to get our trade in. Not before driving me to the store in 122nd and making a weird show of it not being there. I'm glad we weren't stupid enough to buy from them and hope that you aren't either. read more

Bought a 2013 BMW here in May 18, they basically sold me a car they bought at an auction with bad value stems seals. I found paperwork from the previous owner in the glove box when I got it home, I called thewm right away and told them I'm bring the car back its using a lot of oil. The previous owner, who I contacted told me to take the car back to them. They refused to take the car back and said I had signed a contract. Since Ive had the car, paid 25K, in addition I have had over 12K dollars in repairs. They absolutely scammed me! They bought the car at an auction said they went though a high level of inspection (total lie) and the car is in great condition. The car is beautiful on the ouside but it obviously had a bad motor, since all 32 valve seals in the engine needed to be replaced. This place is a total scam! Stay far far away! read more

Met some guy named Mark. Mark said there were 2 cars in the exact description I was looking for. So I drive half an hour to get there, we get in a car and drive another 10 minutes to the 'lot' which is another dealership only to find out that the cars don't exist. Then Mark tries to sell me upgrades, cars I don't want. I tell him I can't afford them but call me if he finds what I'm looking for. So he calls the next day and asks if I'm ready to buy one of the cars we looked at. I said again that I couldn't afford the ones he showed me. "What," he says, "you think they're going to get any cheaper?" That's then I hung up on him. As if the bait and switch wasn't bad enough. He ruined my afternoon and had the audacity to talk to me like an a-hole afterward. I will NEVER buy a car from these bozos. I'm ready too, but like most of us I have a budget that I need to stick to. Nobody deserves to be treated like that. Avoid these chumps and feel better about yourself afterward. read more

After an intensely stressful week of dealing with car salesman all over Portland, I decided to go through the "Costco Auto Program" to find the car I wanted with little hassle. The program recommended this dealership, and I couldn't have been happier with the results! I wanted a '16 Civic Coupe LX-P in Blue (which was rare to find in Portland at the time) and the team here bent over backwards trying to get it for me as fast as they could, even offering to give me a loaner vehicle in the event that the car didn't arrive by the time they quoted me. The sales crew was very nice and laid back, with no high-pressure tactics during signing, or in the offering of additional features that comes with buying a new car. There must be some bad apples in the mix at Tonkin Honda after reading some of the reviews. Tanner was our salesman and we couldn't have been happier. No pressure and he was able to get us into the truck for the price we were willing to pay. He was quick to respond to our many questions prior to us making down to the dealership. Highly recommend him if you are going to go there! The big complaint that I have is they detailed the truck after we purchased it and my 7 year old daughter could have done a better job. read more
