I just wanted to comment on the service teams AMAZING customer service. I have an EV and we were driving back from Hood River and were dangerously low on charge. Based on our range, the Honda dealership was the closest charging station. We stopped by the dealership to charge and the service team went out of their way to help us even though we weren't paying customers. We figured out how to get the ChargePoint stations working so we could get enough charge to get home. If they weren't so helpful, we would have had really limited options. So I just wanted to give a shout-out to their service team as their customer service and kindness is outstanding. Especially in these times, kindness goes a long way. Thank you very much!! read more

Came in at 9:30 am for an oil change for my 2016 Honda Accord. I was told it would be an hour for my car. I said, that is fine I have a ride and I will be back to pick up my car. They said they would call me when it was ready. At 12:30 pm I called and was told they took other cars ahead of mine since I wasn't at the dealership waiting. At that point I decided to get dropped off and wait. Apparently that is the only way to get your car. It is now 2:30 pm and I am still here waiting for my car, remember this is for an oil change. I will never be back here again to have my car serviced or to purchase a car. Funny thing is, this car is a lease and I am trying to decide to keep it or trade it in. If these people think for a minute I would give them any of my business......ever they are crazy!!! The dealership did pay for my oil change. I will give them credit for that. After receiving pricing and several days of questions I made the decision to go test drive a new Pilot with checkbook in hand. I loved the car and was set to purchase it but not so fast- then suddenly "you were quoted the wrong price" the person who helped you is new blah blah blah !!! price was then increased by $2000 what a bunch of dishonest bullshit ! they had almost a week to inform me if that was in fact true instead nothing was ever said until I waste my time driving out there only to have them try to screw me out of an additional $2000 because of their alleged mistake or maybe it was just price bait and switch ? Think I got scammed. They did a oil change and air filter change then my car got engine light, car pulsing on a complete stop and died when I stepped on the gas. I bring it in and Honda tells me my tubing from air filter wore off causing bad air flow. Its funny how they didnt notice the tubing problem when they put the air filter back on. I'm actually pretty disappointed with this Honda. As a first time car buyer, they have made this purchase incredibly difficult and stressful, even after buying my car! There was non-stop pestering from the dealership after viewing and test driving one car (without showing much interest) I ended up buying a car from them as I know that's how car salesmen can be but still incredibly stressful. After purchase, they contact me saying I have to provide proof of address and my social security card while I'm at work during mid week and after a day or so of asking(during the work week) they say they need it SAME DAY or else they might have to repossess the car. I end up going out of my way to get the information over on my only day off so I don't have any repercussions for their mistake. THEN a couple of weeks into purchasing my car, they had me "sign the old paperwork" while I was there and that the verbiage has been adjusted. It was already a hassle to get the paperwork to my co-signer to sign so having to sign is AGAIN from their mistake is incredibly unprofessional. (Not only that but they weren't willing to budge the price AT ALL when I was asking for a fair $700 off, as that's the difference it would've been without my co-signer) read more

We just bought a new Honda Ridgeline from Ron Tonkin. The car is great - for a midsize truck its about the safest and has some really great features! We worked with 3 people in the sales dept today. After getting the run around from a Vancouver dealership on what they would give us as trade in value for my car, I called RT to see if they could match the offer since we were no longer confident that we were going to get an honest transaction at the Vancouver place. I was assured of a final "out the door" price. I told the salesperson "great. I'll write a check for $××××x. If the price is any more that what we've been quoted, its nothing personal but we will walk away." The expectations were very clear, and we were literally ready to walk in and pay cash for a new car. After sitting down and getting a price sheet, we noticed the price suddenly increased by $550. I repeatedly asked to see a breakdown of taxes and fees to figure out where that money was coming from. If I could get a good explanation of why my math wasn't lining up, I'd be happy to let it go. They said it was for "accessories" that couldn't be removed. I told them about my conversation and that the price we agreed on was for "the vehicle and any manufacturer installed additions.". They instead tried to justify the new price to the point of visible frustration from all sales people involved. We ended up agreeing to split the difference and they would remove the rubber car mats. I was still feeling weird about it, because I felt like the mats and other "mandatory" accessories were included in the price I was quoted on the phone. I was over the whole experience and agreed to the compromise. Once we go to the financing office, the sales manager comes in to admit that the price was incorrect because they were charging too much tax. I felt vindicated, that I wasn't crazy and the price was wrong. The end result was that we paid less than agreed by about $500 once they corrected the issue, but minua the mats we would have paid for at the originally quoted price. We left without the rubber mats, but at least we didn't agree to a purchase price that was too high as a result of a calculation error. Ideally, they would have believed me when I said that the price was wrong. We would have paid what we agreed to, and kept the silly floor mats. The negotiation ended up being stressful, and I feel weird about the whole experience. read more

I am a new customer here. Great system for making an appointment. Upon arrival I was greeted by a service tech, Jason, and set up for service. I was told it would be about 3 hours. Service was done sooner! I asked the tech about the oil pan guard being secure and was assured that my car was fine. After leaving the lot , I received a phone call letting me know that they FORGOT the oil pan guard. Not a great way to start a new customer relationship. Jason was apologetic and offered me 2 car wash coupons. He then offered to was my car. I am nervous to bring my car back, what if they forget other, more important things?? read more

We bought a Honda CRV there in April. While the salesman was friendly and knowledgeable, the negotiation process was the usual painful one, and then it got really unpleasant when we got to the point of all the add-ons they wanted us to buy (all of which increases dealer profits but does little for the buyer): paint protection, electronics protection, etc. In fact, their big "selling point" on pushing the extended warranty for the car electronics made it sound like the systems were crap - an interesting technique. The finance guy was especially memorable... he aggressively asked why we didn't want the various add-on options, did his best to make us feel ridiculous and stupid for NOT wanting them, and then once we told him we didn't need their financing, basically worked hard to get us out of there as fast as possible. We did end up buying our car - that was our mission - but I was left with a really bad feel about this place. I'll look around for other Honda dealerships when I'm ready for my next Honda purchase. Oh ... and today we're shopping for a 2nd car, and guess what? Tonkin/Honda isn't on the list of places we're heading to. (And I'm editing this while waiting for my 2nd car purchase- at a different dealer - ) Update post "owner response": 1: We DID get another car at Infiniti. I had them try to diagnose and repair my USB connection. My phone isn't charging In the car. I told them I've tried many cords and a lighter adapter. They plugged in the cord, told me it works, and charged me $78. And now it's still not working, of course. In my opinion, a free courtesy visit is applicable in this situation. Years ago, one of the associates was recommending all kinds of expensive servicing and maintenance. I asked him for the history of the things Tonkin Gresham Honda has done to make sure they weren't redoing things. He folded his arms and said something like "this is part of the scheduled maintenance." When I said I'll think about it, he said "see you later, dick." Take your car for regularly scheduled maintenance to a known trusted mechanic rather than these guys. These guys have no particular skill, and they charge more for guys like the one I mentioned above. read more

When I had an intractable idling issue with my 2003 Honda Element I didn't think any dealer service department would be interested in working on my nearly 20-old car, but Tonkin Honda stepped right up to the task. As I waited in the showroom, the technician Nick S. kept me informed by text of everything he was doing to troubleshoot my issue, and continually asked me how I wished to proceed. What service station, especially at a dealer, would do that? Nick was respectful to me and transparent in his work, and, it's worth mentioning, an expert in these amazing little Elements. He successfully fixed the problem that several other techs at other shops could not. The fees were more than fair. I am grateful to Tonkin for this, and I will absolutely not bring my Element anywhere else. read more

I'm going o buy a new car this weekend. I can tell you where I will not be going. This place. Had a trouble code come up this week, and had to pay their ridiculous $126 to have them look at the code, reset it, and tell me smugly that I needed an oil change. I told the service manager who called "I'm paying you $126 for doing nothing, why don't you change the oil?" He told me no, because it's synthetic oil, and he wouldn't make enough on the oil change. For the record, a synthetic change with them is $70, so the $56 he would have made for still doing nothing wasn't enough. Then, to add insult to injury, they tossed a Honda filter on my front seat, so I can do it myself, or have some other place do it. Fuck that guy. Bruce, who is the service department general manager seems like a really great guy on a personal level, but the service department here is a joke. My girlfriend has had nothing but crap service from them as well, so were done buying cars from them. She says they used to be great, but in the last year, it's gone to hell. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. I'm headed to a KIA Sportage after driving my Honda for almost 12 years. read more

Do not go here solo as a female. I told them my very strict budget multiple times, that I would be paying in full and could not finance because I was currently unemployed. They completely ignored me, lied to me, and had me test drive a car they knew I couldn't afford without financing, and didn't show me anything in my actual price range. Said some extremely condescending things to me, when I asked for my keys back and told them I was leaving, they brought the manager out who proceeded to say even more condescending things to me, told me I'd better just buy a car from them because there's no way I'd be able to find what I want, though I was very persistent I did not want to continue the conversation and wanted to leave. UPDATE 2/2/21 : After only driving our new used vehicle once (after taking it home) we discovered leaks. The floor boards in the front of the vehicle and the back tailgate have major amounts of water! It was raining when we test drove and inspected the vehicle before purchasing and these areas were dry. Which tells me that someone knew there were leaks and took the time to hide it. I understand that it is not the dealerships fault for the leaks, but they should have disclosed that information so we could make an informed decision. Knowingly hiding the information seems shady and dishonest. I contacted our sales associate immediately and he got us an appointment for a few days later (thank you Michael). When we took it in for inspection we were told it's a common problem with some of these vehicles and so they weren't going to do anything. They also told us that eventhough it was on the lot for 60 days they wouldn't have noticed the leak because they don't check those kinds of things. I am sadly disappointed with the lack of customer satisfaction/service we received after our purchase. BEWARE purchasing a USED vehicle from here! I called today 8/31/2019 just to have some information that I signed with the dealer when I bought my car here, this is my 4th call in one week, "Jeff" from finance answered the phone and I nicely request if he could email me a few papers so my gap insurance could be activate. His answer was " today is not a good day to do that because I'm busy at the dealer" "could you call on Monday?" Are you serious? It would take 10 minutes to do so, not to say that when I bought the car at TONKIN HONDA JN GRESHAM the sales man told me that the car already had guarantee from Volvo because of the low mileage the car has and he said "let me double check on that" came back and said "yes the car still under Volvo's guarantee" now when I went to do paper work because the car got rear ended and totaled loss, they told me that I AGREE TO PAY A $3.500 FOR EXTENDED GUARANTEE!!!!!!!!!! I did a fair amount of research prior to purchasing our vehicle (2017 CRV). The reason why we decided to go with Tonkin Gresham was because they offered us the lowest interest rate and a 5-year oil change free of charge. Little did we know what a headache we got ourselves into! When we closed the deal on 01/28/17 at the Portland's Autoshow, they convinced us to get the extended 7-year warranty (despite our initial reluctant) because they said that at the Autoshow if we buy the warranty, they would include the maxguard protection and interior fabric sealants for free. Long story short, we went with that. Our car wasn't delivered until 02/11/17 -- more than 2 weeks of waiting!! Even though at the time of the purchase they said it would be ready by 01/31/17 the latest. .... Also, at the time of the purchase they didn't give us any copy of the paperwork either because "the printer wasn't working." We left without no paperwork and were just awaiting for the email. No email. Nothing. What naive people we were! When the car finally delivered on 02/11/17, there was no paperwork because the sale manager and the delivery person didn't communicate. After some phone calls, the paperwork was finally delivered to us the evening of 02/13/17. I hope you all are following the timeline and realize what a long and exhausting process this has been when it shouldn't be at all. Only until the evening of 02/13/17, when we finally held the paperwork in hand that we realized we were charged an extra $600 for the 5-year free oil change that they had promised, and another $800 for the sealants that should have been included in our extended-warranty-package as part of the Autoshow deal. My dad and I are gonna go to the dealership to clear this up this weekend. They have been ignoring my emails, calls, and texts so far. :( Regardless of the outcome, this has been an unnecessary tiresome process when it shouldn't be at all. The worst feeling that one could have as a consumer is the feeling of being lied to, and/or abandonment. This would have been 100% a 5 star review until things went south extremely fast. My Honda was having issues starting about a week ago, and it was extremely obvious that it was a battery/electrical issue and in no way mechanical. I wanted to be safe so I jump started it, and went to the local auto zone where I had an employee do a battery test for me. He told me my battery was charged and healthy. Weird. So I went home and thought that was the end of my issues. Next morning my car battery is so drained that when I try to lock it with the key fob it doesnt even have enough of a charge to lock the doors or make the honking sound confirming that the car is locked. So I took my car to Steve the service manager. I told him I was willing to leave the car with him and his technicians for a few days since I had a family members car that I was able to drive for about a week. I told them no rush and to take their time I would just prefer it was done right. I have an aftermarket sound system with upgraded speakers, subwoofer, and amplifier. The next day they told me the car did not die on them over night so it was hard to fix an issue that they can not replicate. Which I 100% totally understand. He offered to keep it for another night and see if it maybe died the next night so they could get to the bottom of why my car died 2 nights in a row at my house. He called me the next day and let me know that they found out that my trunk was filled with water and that my amplifier to my speakers was soaking wet. They told me to fix the issue they had to take panels off to identify where the leak was coming from and then fix it. Cool, no problem with me. I even spoke with the gentleman who worked on my car, but I can't remember his name. He told me they took the amplifier out and dried everything overnight, fixed the area where water was coming in from, and got it back together. Along with some other routine maintenance it was a pretty spendy bill, close to $2000. I understand that sometimes stuff just happens and plus there is maintenance. Here is where the problem lies. When I dropped off my car at the Honda dealership, my soft top went down perfectly. It had 0 issues. Well that evening when going for a drive when I was leaving my house I tried to put the top down. Unfortunately the top only went down about 80-90% of the way. It felt like it was getting stuck on something. I know this has to be a relatively easy fix. I can tell there is nothing wrong with the electrical motor making the top go down. It just feels as if it is getting stuck. So I texted Steve, the service manager that had helped me through this whole electrical issue. I let him know the top wasn't going down and that I needed to bring the car back to have them get it taken care of. He said no problem and I brought it in. He got the mechanic that had worked on my car and they both came out to the service bay (Steve, and mechanic) and asked me to show them what was happening. The mechanic said that it just looked like it was getting stuck on something. Steve INSTANTLY went into defense mode and denied that it could have been anything that Honda could have done. I said to him "hey maybe when you took the panels off you put something back on slightly wrong and its causing the top to get stuck somewhere." Still 100% denying that Honda could have even possibly done it. He told me that if I want to get it fixed I will have to spend $150 on a diagnostics test to asses what is going on and then we can go from there. The problem is that when I dropped the car off, the soft top was 100% functional, and I did not receive it back in the same condition. I will be filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau, and I have already disputed the charge with my credit card company. read more

I was shopping aggressively for a hybrid...comparing the Honda Insight, Toyota Prius, and Hyundai Ioniq. I ended up with the Insight. The decision was about 20% car related and 80% dealership related. The salesman, who has been there for 30 years or so, was so professional....none of the typical car salesman BS...and his manager was likewise. These guys made it so easy and so pleasant, that my wife and I went back a week later and bought her a Honda Passport. There are only two of us, but we do have a three car garage, so I better stay away or I could end up with a third purchase! Never felt better about a dealership! Just glancing at the posted reviews (GLANCING) it seems vehicle service is fairing better than vehicle sales. This is a service related review. It starts in February 2017 and ends today, December 26, 2017. In February 2017 my electronic ignition key was lost. I called around and found the cost of replacing the key was prohibitive so I started using the only spare key. Then in May 2017 I lost the spare key. Now I only had a non-electronic key that operated only the ignition. The replacement cost for one ELECTRONIC KEY was $150 and two identical keys was $235. cut and programmed. Two keys cut, programmed and ready to use. I spent the $235. Nothing special so far. But wait! There is MORE! While reviewing my Safeco Auto Insurance I discovered I had "Electronic key replacement" coverage. Sure enough, my insurance agent confirmed my replacement of lost keys was covered and merely had to submit a detailed receipt to open a claim and get reimbursed $235. RECEIPT? Uhhh . . . Any chance I kept a receipt I had no idea I'd ever need? No chance whatsoever. Today, December 26, 2017, my telephone call to Tonkin Gresham Honda connected me to Alex Lee. I told Alex what I needed and why I needed it. After 3-4 minutes searching Alex said, "Here it is! Would you like a copy FAX'd or e-mailed?" Ten minutes later there is a copy of the receipt in my e-mail INBOX! Come pick it up? No, let us deliver it. Charge you a fee for searching and copying? No,. It's free. 10 stars if I could for Benjamin Doan!!! He was the most professional, kind and patient sales person we have encountered. He knew we had been looking for 3+ months at the Honda CR-V and been to multiple dealerships. We told him the price we were willing to pay and he did not hassle us or try to negotiate, he made the price we were requesting happen for us. He was excellent and the reason we chose to finally purchase. He even delivered our new car later in the evening to our home. He is first class and I would suggest others go in and ask for him by name. Trust me, we went to numerous other dealers and sales people before him. He was the best! The finiance part was my least favorite part. We had Shelly as our Finance Specialist and the minute she started talking about the extended warranty, I told her to not even bother we were not interested. She continued to share and kept explaining why we should get it and said even though I may not understand the value she has seen first hand how it can help, seemed annoyed with me for not even giving her a chance to share. Honestly, it came down to adding extra expenses to an already $34,000 debt. I don't care how great all the add-ins are, we just can't afford them. It's not that I didn't see the value or was trying to be rude telling her we were not interested before she even shared. Overall, because of Salesperson Benjamin, we had an excellent experience!!! Very disappointed. Not only was the sales high pressure, but the second I drove off the lot, the fuel light came on. A month later, the check engine light came on for a code that had been previously cleared. The brakes needed to be replaced, even though they assured me about 25 times at the time of purchase that their "winning" service department had fully inspected the vehicle. They have also been giving me the run around for months on how to cancel my "extended service contract" that I haven't used and shouldn't have signed up for in the first place. I even tried to let the sales rep know my sense of urgency to buy the car before it got sold and how this was the vehicle I wanted. After it sold they tried to get me to buy something else. Pricks! Tanner isn't just the-guy-who-sold-us-our-car, he's a friend. Tonkin was the only dealership that was transparent about the availability of the Pilot. Tanner was able to set up a dealer trade for the exact Pilot we wanted, when the other dealers in the area said we'd just have to wait to see what comes in. He also drove out to Hillsboro with our finance papers to sign, so we didn't have to make a trip to Grasham. I think he and I exchanged over 100 emails during the course of the deal, and he was steadfastly kind and prompt in responding. I guess my only regret is that we love our Pilot and don't intend to sell it... ever? so we won't get to work with Tanner again very soon. read more

SCAMMERS! We all know dealerships try to f*** people over, after all we are just money to them, anyways, after this guys used play on words to make us believe they were adding stuff like the clear bar for free, we found out they charged us $1,200 for it, but it gets better, they never installed the clear bra, I called the place where they get the clear bra installed and they told me they charge $699 for it, so why they charged us $1,200? I tried to call the manager and they're just ignoring our calls, I highly recommend people contact the better business bureau like I did. read more

If you want to be hounded and pressured into buying a car this is the place for you. Went in there with a car we had bought from them two years earlier and wanted to try to upgrade to a bigger one for my growing family. I was thinking because I bought it from that dealership maybe they would be able to get me a better deal. They gave me a quote that was like half the Kelly blue book price and kept pressuring me to buy the car today.
