Came to try their opening special pork loin cutlet rice bowl for 9.99 $. What a great deal. It came with a miso soup. Generous portion and taste was good. Servers were friendly and the food came pretty fast.

I came here with my family for an early dinner on a weekday. We were able to get a table in the back room where the bathroom is located. The service was friendly and quick. The tonkatsu was pretty good - lean and not too fatty. My husband ordered the oxtail curry and he enjoyed it. There was one large piece of oxtail in the plate and the flavor had depth to it. It came ala carte, so we ordered a side of rice. My sons enjoyed their tonkatsu, especially the cabbage salad with the self-serve dressings! I enjoyed the miso sauce tonkatsu, which had a surprising sweet flavor more than a miso flavor. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would come back again! Happy Eating!

Tonkatsu Tuesday... lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii... I saw on social media that Tonkatsu Sakazaki was going to open on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 11am at the Keeaumoku Plaza. I wasn't planning on going until my friend, Emmett, sent me the social media link. I considered the $9.99 Tonkatsu-don special which would only be available on Grand Opening Day. Okay... this deal is too good to miss. It's originally $19.99. I just hoped that it wouldn't be too crowded. I knew that the shared parking lot had a free one-hour policy, so my plan was to eat as quickly as I could. I signed my name on the clipboard and only waited about 15 minutes. The place was packed at noon. I got a counter seat and told the server right away that I wanted the $9.99 special. Then, I waited about another 15 minutes. In the meantime, watching the chef was very entertaining! He sliced the fresh tonkatsu efficiently and with precision! He was polite to customers and noticed that i needed a takeout box. He told staff to get me one! Yes, the portion was generous! The tonkatsu was soft and moist! The egg, sauce, and onions were tasty! The rice was fluffy and just right! The miso soup was good, too! Everything went well on Grand Opening Day! It was a lively, crowded experience! (The next room was full, too!) I look forward to returning and trying other menu items like the oysters and the oxtail!

I had a great experience despite them being short-staffed with one chef tonight! They were very communicative and apologetic about the long wait but the food was delicious and I was well taken care of. The opening special for $9.99 is a steal because that buggah was big! LOL. The portion size was just right for me as well - I didn't leave overwhelmingly full where I can't get out of my chair LOL. I was surprised at how elegant the presentation was, and it was one of the better Katsu Donburi's I have had on-island so far! I think even for the regular price you pay it is still well worth your money to come here, special discounted price or not. There was a long wait that I observed of people outside wanting to come in. Do keep in mind that this is a new establishment and that they are short-staffed. They also are starting some new hours as well so hopefully they can accommodate more people!

Tasty dishes. Quick & courteous service. Only 1 hr of free parking w/ validation.

Service was very good considering that they're short-staffed. Very friendly, came back multiple times to see if we had enough miso soup and cabbage. Food came out very quick. I had the fried oysters which also had a homemade tartar sauce that you can tell was homemade because there were eggs and fresh cucumbers. I'm hoping when this restaurant gets fully staffed the wait to get in will improve. I came here at 5:05, five minutes after opening, and we still had to wait 40 minutes to get seated. But food came out within 5-10 minutes after ordering, which was great. And lastly, they have a clean restroom. With a toto bidet.

Visited on the 3rd day of their opening and was the first on line for a seat. That said we waited nearly 25 minutes before getting our lunch order. I'm sure the kinks will be worked out. As for the food, everything was tasty and although we thought the tonkatsu donburi special was good, the chef didn't charge us for the meal since he thought the sauce wasn't up to his standard. That's how you know it's a real deal Japanese joint!

Amazing service by waitress Alexis. She made the experience enjoyable and the wait worth it. Food was good, I loved their homemade tonkatsu sauce!

The highlight of our Hawaii trip! We loved Ginza Bairin so much that we went TWICE during our trip…read more We visited on our previous trip to Hawaii, and it was an absolute must-revisit this time around. If you're visiting Honolulu and love Japanese tonkatsu, do yourself a favor and put this place on your list! The absolute star of the show is the Specialty Kurobuta Pork Loin Katsu. Out of this world! Kurobuta pork is basically the Waygu of the pork world. This pork comes from the Berkshire pig which produces more flavorful, more tender pork. The pork is perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and coated in a beautifully crispy breading. Every bite is exactly what you want from a great tonkatsu. And PLEASE, don't sleep on the unlimited refills of cabbage, miso soup, and rice! The rice deserves its own shoutout. Ginza Bairin serves premium Tsuyahime white rice from Yamagata, Japan, and it is hands down the best rice I've ever had. The grains are plump, fluffy, and delicious, with that wonderful texture that makes you keep reaching for another bowl. Shamelessly admitting that I ate THREE bowls of rice, and I have absolutely zero regrets. My husband doesn't eat pork or beef, so he ordered the chicken katsu and said it was the best chicken katsu he's ever had. That's a pretty impressive endorsement, especially from someone who eats chicken katsu regularly. Families with little ones, this place is fantastic! They're incredibly kid-friendly, with child-sized cups, forks, spoons, and plates. Even better, the kids' meals come in the cutest little blue or pink car-shaped trays that my son absolutely loved. You can choose chicken katsu or shrimp tempura, served with rice, cabbage salad, macaroni salad, and a kids' juice box. It's thoughtful touches like these that make dining out with a toddler so much more enjoyable. The service was amazing, too. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making the whole experience even better. A few helpful tips: - Make a reservation ahead of time if you can, but walk-ins are welcome, too. - There are two "restaurants": the main dining room primarily accommodates reservations, while the other side is mainly for walk-ins. Don't worry, the food is impeccable on both sides! - Free validated parking for up to 1.5 hours is available at the Bank of Hawaii Waikiki Business Center underground garage, which is a huge plus in Waikiki. Ginza Bairin checks all the boxes: exceptional food, premium ingredients, generous refills, warm service, and a genuinely family-friendly atmosphere. The fact that we went twice in one trip says everything. This is one of those restaurants that stays on your must-visit list every time you return to Hawaii. Already dreaming about that pork katsu and another three bowls of rice!

They only have about 20 orders available daily, so we always make sure to make early reservations for dinner. It's a small place, so seating can be limited, and although they do take walk ins, you really should make a reservation. Free validated parking is available next door in the parking garage beneath the Bank of Hawaii building. I really like how light and crispy their tonkatsu is here. And the Kurobota katsu just melts in your mouth! If they don't have that available their Bairin Pork Tenderloin Katsu is always excellent too! My girlfriend also likes their Katsu-Dons. Sets come with free refills of rice, miso soup, cabbage, and pickles. Last night they also had several new wagyu additions to the menu that we haven't seen before, along with a wagyu beef nigiri that we had to try and thoroughly enjoyed. Service here is fast and very friendly! We have always enjoyed coming here and the staff take great care of their customers. They also offer a Kamaaina discount for locals with a Hawaii ID, which is really fantastic for people like us who live here and enjoy this place!

A little taste of Japan I almost don't want to share…read more I would love to gatekeep Tenkichi because I already know it will get busier and harder to get into as more people discover it. But here I am, doing my Yelp Elite duty and telling you about it. Tenkichi has some great lunch specials to satisfy anything from a light lunch to a full-on feast. Delicious food, quality ingredients, friendly staff, and great service. The ambiance completes the experience. From the food to the surroundings, you almost feel like you have taken a little trip to Japan. Honestly, I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Go enjoy Tenkichi. Just do me a favor and do not tell too many people. I am already regretting this review.

We went in hoping to order a bunch of stuff, unfortunately, the lunch menu is more limited than the dinner menu. No matter, this was a blessing in disguise We ordered the deluxe teishoku set and the premium trio bowl. We initially wanted to get the uni/ikura bowl (dinner menu only) so we ordered a separate uni sashimi since the deluxe teishoku set came with an ikura bowl. This was definitely a splurge. The deluxe teishoku set is one of the best deals I think you can get for the price and quality. It gives you a little taste of everything and the quality was superb. Definitely would come back for lunch and dinner!

Izakaya Tenkichi - Yuzu Cheese Cake ($5.50) - really sweet, especially with the granola. Would recommend getting a different dessert.
