Wink Johnston, the owner, began her career by committing herself to having extensive training and to always keep up with the latest improvements and techniques. In a time when California small businesses have been absolutely pummel by a very hostile atmosphere she maintained a cheerful face and passionately provided her clients (and friends) with the absolute apex of excellent talent and service. In early May of 2026 Wink passed away and those of us who love her will miss her terribly and be so grateful...for some of us it has been decades of a relationship that transitioned naturally from client to friendship. She sold me a conditioner also and added it to the full price of the service so when I tipped by percentage, I ended up giving them a lot more money than intended. She took her time, tried out different color shades and then we finally decided to go with dark brown shade. The color came out really good even without bleaching. I met Wink about 5 years ago when I arrived at her salon with out and appointment but in desperate need of a bang trim. Wink was kind enough to stop what she was doing and cut my bangs for free in between appointments. From then on, Wink has given me the best haircuts I have ever had. I get compliments all the time and her haircuts last months and still look great! I recently got my hair highlighted by Wink which was my first hair color ever. Totally discriminating experience. I will fill you in later. I was completely shunned. I went in to ask for nail service MENU...not an appointment. The lady at the front told me to go next door. I said oh are you the same? Then she said she doesn't have a menu. Then I ask is there a website? Then she said with major attitude "this is a hair salon"! WtF?! I respond with "I can see that but there's a nail technician sitting right there". Then she hands me a card and told me the Nail Technician is by appointment only. She could have told me that within the first few seconds even though I wasnt even asking for an appointment. She clearly did not want me coming here for ANYTHING. The nail technician's card has a web site address. Since the beginning of this review I have been contacted by this person. I didnt even really read her joke of an apology. She did state she was embarrassed. And to that I say....you good and god damn well should be!!!! My nail tech at times is too busy, and I was looking for a back up. I was referred here by one of the nail tech's current client's who was appalled when I told her what happened. She told me she knows who this woman is and she is like that. Go figure. Sorry, I'm a bit biased. I've been seeing Liz for at least 7 years. Oops, guess it means I'm aging myself here. ANYWHO, I have strayed away from Liz a few times and always found myself coming back. When you find someone you really like, HOLD ON TO THEM FOR DEAR LIFE. She always takes awesome care of my hair. I'm effectively lazy. I don't want to do jack crap for my hair when I get up in the morning. I'm the 'wash n go' kind of gal and by golly, Liz makes sure that my cuts last and that my hair style fits my life style and just looks fab. I just let her 'do whatever she wants' and she works her magic. I give her a little guidance on if I want to go short or long and she just goes to town. BTW, she's also a super doll to talk to. The woman's got a memory like an elephant. She always remembers my stories and knows how to get me to crack up. Seeing her is like seeing an old friend. I'm so not trading her in for anything. Although this review is strictly about Sataya, the eyelash and nail technician, I would like to mention that I've always been treated very pleasantly by everyone who works at this salon. It is very clean and adorable! I've been going to see Sataya for about 3 years now, and this recommendation is grossly overdue. I know this is very long, but I really want to point out important traits that have kept me a client for so long. Will try to stay efficient! Sataya has invaluable qualities in terms of what you'd be looking for in an eyelash/nail technician, or any service provider. She's clean and completely sanitary she never touches my eyelashes or nails with tools that touched others. I leave with the brush she used on my eyelashes that day with every appointment. She also wears a mask and always washes her hands. She's fair in general but specifically with her prices and with her time. Heard the expression, "you get what you pay for?". In my opinion with Sataya, you get more than you pay for. She incredibly professional She's been understanding with me and has always been very communicative if anything comes up. In 3 years she has maybe asked if I could reschedule once or twice (which is incredible), but in every case I've had plenty of notice, she was apologetic and in turn was understanding for the times I, too, needed to make a change. She's very knowledgeable about her trade I probably have a new question for her every time and she always has the answer. She has maintained my natural eyelash health and I've been able to continue to get lashes without damage, balding or irritation. She knows about the products she uses and sells, and knows how to give advice to tailor to your questions. She also will never apply lashes in a way that your natural lashes can't handle. During a time where I was under a lot of stress and my lashes had weakened, she altered the length and thickness of my extensions in an effort to accommodate and aid regrowth and health. It always worked. If you're truly looking to invest in your eyelashes for the long term, I highly recommend her. She's a perfectionist Her work is the best I've ever seen. I am constantly complimented on my lashes, while a lot of ppl even think they're real (which is amazing to hear since I do get very long extensions). I have seen extensions done by a lot of ppl. Hers are hands down the best I've seen EVER. Her manicures are also the best I've ever seen, and I think that speaks volumes because there are a lot more nail technicians than eyelash technicians in this area. She's just such a perfectionist. You won't leave without looking exactly how you wanted to. (Sataya, I hope this doesn't add a lot of anxiety to your job, lol) Bottom line, we all work hard for our money and expect a certain level of results, customer service and experiences for our money. You will not be disappointed by Sataya. Her service is worth her prices and more. This review is about the Tonic Salon stylist, Kent. Tonic Salon has independent stylists, so they choose their own hours. I called the main line and told them what I was looking to get done (partial highlight), and the lady said someone would call me back. I received a call back from Kent and apparently he was going to be my stylist. I scheduled my appointment with Kent the following week. Upon arriving at Tonic Salon a few minutes before my appointment, a nail salon employee looked at me and asked if I had an appointment. I told her I was here to see Kent and she whispered 'pssst' to get Kent's attention. Kent was snoozing in the salon chair. I am a new mother and totally understand taking a quick snooze, but right in front of all the customers? Any who, Kent introduced himself, I told him what I was wanting done (subtle highlights, mainly brightening up the already existing ones), and he went back to mix the color. Kent did a good job with the hair color, and he was genuinely a nice man. However, be prepared to have your head hurting during and after the appointment. He places the foils extremely tight against your scalp and pulls at your hair. Also, upon washing my hair, it feels like you're getting a noogie (you know, like when someone grabs your head and scratches your head with their knuckles really hard). I generally look forward to the shampoo portion of an appointment, but with this one, I couldn't wait to wrap it up. I told him he could partially dry my hair (I had already been there for 2.5 hours), and was more than ready to go. Again, Kent did a good job with my hair color. I'm always a little timid to visit a new stylist who has not colored my hair before. I felt comfortable knowing he had been doing hair for the past 30 years. Kent's price is reasonable ($100 for a partial highlight) which is nice and you don't see that often in the Bay Area. However, I left the appointment with my head hurting (due to the tough washing and combing) and I feel like that was the decision point in asking myself if I would return. For those going to see Kent, I have one tip: take 2 Tylenol before and you should be set. read more

My review is for Cheri at Tonic Salon. I love this place! The decor is fun, upbeat and hip. I've been in now 3x and on one occasion brought my kids. The owner made my kids hot coco and gave them each a cookie. It's not always fun to have kids tag along but everyone there made me feel ok about it. (I've also now had her cut both kids hair and she does a great job on both boys and girls.) Cheri is a great stylist. I've seen her on/off for a few years and recently came back to her after a year. I'd left for a much more expensive stylist & colorist who were flying in from Los Angeles and Isreal (no joke) every 8 weeks. While they were really good -- the cost was $$$ and in the end, Cheri is just as good and she's local! She gives great haircuts -- the kind that last. She is also a very good listener and cares about both making you happy but also setting realistic expectations of what your hair can and can't do. I appreciate that since I have vert thin, fine hair. Cheri is also great with color. As a brunette who likes to go between lighter golden highlights and darker brown, Cheri is so good at keeping my hair healthy, shiny and looking natural. She's always a great conversationalist and happy to see me. My favorite part of the appointment is when we are finished and Cheri styles my hair. She always gives me a great blowout or awesome beachy waves that leave me looking great. She's also shown me how to achieve the same look at home with what I have. I've recommended Cheri to a few friends over the years and they continue to see her. If you're looking for a current style, a great cut, flawless shiny color and a relaxing appointment, give Cheri a try. She's terrific! read more

This place is 5 stars on so many levels. First of all the salon itself is beautiful! Secondly, it is a salon that offers practically any beauty service you may need (hair cut/color, extensions, nails, eyelashes, etc.). Third, this is not a salon where you will leave unhappy, from what I have observed the staff is super talented and stylish, and they really pay attention to detail. I got my cut/color and extensions done with Wink. She is the one to go to if you want natural looking gorgeous extensions. When I came to her my hair was a disaster in the beginning, the previous salon that colored my hair gave me streaky orange highlights/color that was darker than the extensions I was wearing at the time. It was a complete mess which Wink was able to tame and transform! :) She started by highlighting and toning my hair to better match the new extensions she ordered for me, which turned out to be so on point that the transition between my real hair and extensions is seamless! I LOVE my new hair. The quality of the extensions themselves are out of this world. I honestly forget that I have extensions in when I am doing my hair, which is a great change from what I had before. Wink pays attention to detail so much that she won't let you leave with hair that's anything less than perfect. Wink has saved me more than once from messes that I have made by doing my own color. I don't know what I would do without her! She is a master at coloring - constantly learning new techniques and styles. Not only has she managed to restore my hair back to it's natural color after a horrible "boxed" die job that I did, but she also managed to restore the texture. It had been dry and hard to style and once restored it was soft and bouncy again. I've been going to Sataya for Eyelash Extension for a few months now, and I only regret that I didn't start seeing her sooner! The eyelashes look natural, yet totally have volume and length. With my permanent eye liner, I can literally "wake up like this"! So thrilled to be able to try the 3D brow with Sataya as well! I had my eyebrows tattooed and touched up, however, my lack of eyebrow hair as always made me feel that my tattoos look unnatural. 3D brow helped to enhance my eyebrow tattoo, and help it look like I actually have hair!
